These guys were literally 10 minuts away from me, and It still pains me that I couldn't say hello in person, and how much they have gotten me through some tough times
I'm 99.9 per cent I saw micheal and Jessica on the motorway around my town, I'm a taxi driver from Middlesbrough and to go from Scotland to whitby you have to travel either through Middlesbrough or round it, one day around Halloween I'm absolutely sure I past them it was only when I was further down the road I thought to myself I'm sure it was micheal driving but I couldn't turn back or slow down because I was on one of our fast roads no stopping aloud.
This was AWESOME! I found your channel when I went down a rabbit hole chasing The Shining conspiracy theories and came across your video with Shelley Duvall. You had me hook, line and sinker with that interview. I absolutely loved it and the way you two were with her. I have been here ever since. So just about a year.
Such a horror classic. Always impressed by the information Michael gives with every video. So incredibly informed. You are both fantastic and I love this show. My fav on TH-cam
When they dug up the ground at elstree studios in 2000 to build the big brother house Builders were puzzled as the soil was white. Upon further investigation it turns out tons of fake snow was just buried after filming the exterior scenes
Another beautifully shot video. Mr. Kubrick's house is so peaceful and beautiful. The amount of respect you have for people, their homes and businesses that you visit is awesome. You and baby ghoul are living a lot of peoples dreams and it's beautiful. Thank you two so much for making these videos. Michael, keep creating such masterfully done videos and Jessica, stay as beautiful as you are. Love you guys. Grimmlife follower forever.
While traveling around Europe in the fall of 1989 I actually did get a tour of Elstree-Borehamwood after making a request (by fax!) before departing on my trip. In the last few days before returning home I called the contact, set the time, hopped the train and - missed the stop lol. Had to backtrack, but everyone was very understanding and gracious. I had tea with a gentleman named Andrew Mitchell, who was the manager at the time, before being taken on a tour. I'm forgetting the gentleman's name who took me on the tour but I remember he'd worked on the classic TV series "The Avengers". At the time there wasn't much filming apart from a Jim Henson series titled "The Storyteller", but it was fascinating to see the sound stages, water tank, post-production facilities (which I seem to recall a noted sound editor named Bill Rowe was busy working on something). It was a thrill to be on the stages - even if they were empty at the time - knowing that's where the Death Star hangar, the Well of Souls, the Overlook, and hundreds of other sets had existed from the 1920s up until that point. There was more of the studio still standing at that point than exists today, unfortunately. They kindly gave me a booklet all about Elstree at the end of the visit, with a rundown of the different movies & series filmed there over the decades. It was a great way to finish my travels!
Do u have any photos from your tour? I think that the stage used for the death star hangar was also the one that caught fire and burnt? I have seen a video tour of the studio from 1980, where a man gives a tour of the studio to a Japanese director.
The quality of the content you guys create is outstanding ! I am a huge fan of everything Kubrick and The Shining and still I learned a lot from this video.Thank you !
Well done guys this movie strikes a chord and continually resonates through me even after all these years, same with One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Stanley was a cinematography legend that made a film come to life and immersed the viewer, not to mention a well hand picked cast.
Thank you Mike for sharing this. Im a fan of all Stanley Kubrick films.the clockwork orange 🍊 is my most favorite, my dad said he saw 2001 space ossodey in the theater back in 1968. My dad passed away in 2021, but i remember some of what he did. Thanks so much.
It amazes me how you continually catch me locked in movie mode. Overlook hotel, I just really took so many scenes as really real locations. Studios are literally incredible. Thank you for the awakening.
I have been to Estes Park and the Stanley Hotel several times. It’s a beautiful hotel in Colorado, but I had no idea that some of the filming took place in England.
I appreciate your videos and how much y’all enjoy each other and each other’s company. Thank you for the vicarious escape from reality with your adventures.
Kubrick lived in England from 1961 onward. He moved into the mansion in 1978 & actually used it as a studio instead of an investment property like most houses nowadays.
So great to see that the iconic sets of horror classic like The Shining was built in US and England , there's so many great things to see in UK ,and thanks to both of you , Elstree cinematic studios will be my next object for a visit , i already can imagine famous trio of The Shining like Stanley Kubrick , Jack Nicholson and Shalley Duvall working inside Elstree studios back in 1980 🙂 the most my favorite cinematic spot during filming over the years is then Cillian Murphy standing on the abandoned Westminster Bridge in London while making the movie 28 days after 🙂 Michael and Jessica after both of your respectful visiting to the location of Freddie Mercury house , i'm really hoping that i will meet both of you here in UK someday 🙂 both of your youtube channel are truly one of the best gifts for the people who loves great movies and the iconic places where the movies was made for amazing success 🙂, i want to wish both of you amazing , full of energy , year of 2024 while exploring unseen famous movies sites 🙂 Happy Halloween 🙂❤🐉🎃
Crazy thing is that I had no problem watching you go in a haunted castle hearing ghost voices , but the set of the shinning is crossing the peace line . I had chills as if I was still a kid terrified by this movie . I got goosebumps seeing room 100 , then u show a clip of the ghost from the movie 😅😬😮💨 ❤ you two are rock stars ❤
Many years ago I used to keep my pony just up the road from here. Where you walked up the footpath next to the studios, (I think the one with the little park) there were some open fields/land and old outdoor sets you could see. Especially on horseback, you can see over fences hedges, ect. A couple of house fronts, streets, buildings, all very dilapidated. This was at the time they were actually filming Star Wars (1975/76) but of course, nobody had heard of it then. Elstree at the time was in danger of closure (or so it was said) and I think that's why they sold off so much land. Also just a tip. If you get an ordinance survey map of the areas you are visiting, you can find footpaths just about everywhere. That big house or estate you might want a closer look at, often has a footpath/public right of way running close by. Especially older houses out in the countryside. The workers on the farms or at the "big house", had to get to work somehow a few hundred years ago and from there to the local Church/village.
I was there back in August. It was such a surreal feeling to drive around there at the estate, and to see that in person! I also went to the Luton hoo hotel where they did the party scene from eyes wide shut at the beginning. That was also amazing!!!
Michael, I love your videos! Your content has great variety along with a fantastic narrative. Your perspective is fresh compared to others that have tried but don't get the topics across in the same fashion. These uploads give me something to look forward to. Amazing. Its like a tour of film history. Appreciation for Kubrick. Was in a cab recently started a conversation with the driver about film and the young lady didn't know who Kubrick was. Said she was a big Tom Cruise fan but hadnt seen Eyes Wide Shut.

Are you aware that there are two different versions of The Shining? The initial US release, and the version Kubrick created for the UK and Europe release. This second version is a tighter movie, and cuts some redundant scenes and shots. It's the version most people outside the US have seen.
It's thrilling to see the Kubrick locations and to think that he, the crews, and the casts were at some of these places. The sets that were built are so interesting to think about and that shot with Wendy and Danny is really beautiful. Just on the film 2001: A Space Odyssey alone, Stanley and his team created so many innovations that I'm sure he was often thinking about how to make unique, technical shots. Jessica/Baby Ghoul was a little quieter than usual in this video.
Hope she's enjoying herself and having a good time. :)

"Return to Oz" it makes sense that movie was filmed there because it had that eery aura as the other films that were filmed there. Great video

I have been to Estes Park and the Stanley Hotel several times. It’s a beautiful hotel in Colorado, but I had no idea that some of the filming took place in England.
Pretty much all of it was in the UK. The only shots filmed in the US was the approach in the car at the start and the aerial shots of the hotel.

Those gates outside his house reminded me of "Eye's wide shut "
well done grimms great vlog as always grimms forever
So frustrating they built a supermarket where the studio was, they could have turned it into an incredible museum
Was MGM

One of the most interesting filming locations in movie history made in that studio and around.
The Shining is my favorite movie. So awsome to see Elstree Studios. Thanks so much!
