Who needs 'American Werewolf in London ' when we have ' American TH-camrs in Wetherspoons! '
🤣
That is wild and crazy! Mary Shelley literally spent like every waking moment of her life at her mother’s grave, it’s cool, and surprising and sad all at the same time. Who would have thought the place to take that next step of love would be in a cemetery on your mother’s grave! Holy heckens this is one for the books! ❤thank you besties for this beautiful and quite intriguing adventure! Love you both! 👻❤️🦇💚🧛🏻♂️🥰
Mary Shelley certainly wrote an amazing novel. I see "Frankenstein" as not only a horror story, but also a tragedy. Definitely a tale of the consequences of attempting to overcome the natural order of things. Another great adventure, indeed, Michael and Jessica! Happy...Halloween!! 💚💚💚
I think it's incredible that you got to visit the grave of the founder of Science fiction and Horror herself. Mary Shelley is an incredible writer and without her, we would never have two of the best genres in existence.
Mary Shelley led a “ strange life “. I always wondered how could someone at age 18, write such a dark book like Frankenstein ? I didn’t know her mom died not much longer after Shelley was born . This may have had an impact on her growing up without a mom . 👩 I wonder what all went on in her life up until the age of 18?
Thank you for an interesting walk into another historical figure . Happy Halloween . And may 2024 bring you both joy and happy memories . Warm wishes and hugs to both of you , and your families . Xoxoxoxo
Mary Shelley is a treasure. In the world of books. Will never be forgotten. Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. Will keep her alive forever. Life was rough on her.
You got to visit the grave of the Queen of Gothic. That is pure Awesome !!
Man, you guys are hitting these videos out of the park. You are taking your channel to a whole new level.
Great job, keep it up.
I was going to ask you guys previously if you were going to visit my home town of Bournemouth as Mary Shelley was buried in of of the churchyards here! Now that I know you did visit for the very reason of seeing her grave, I'm gutted that I didn't know before hand so I could've popped along and met you both personally!
We tend to move in and out on the wind. Undetected like a ghost. We might be doing a meet up in London in May.
Great video!! Crazy about her husband's heart. The steak and onion rings looked delicious!! Lol. Thank you! Happy Halloween🖤🖤🕷👻
As I'm watching this, I have the volume up to maximum because I'm sitting in the dark, and there is a massive, MASSIVE thunderstorm outside, and I can barely hear a thing as lightning flashing keeps illuminating my room, it's metal as f☆ck. Perfect Frankenstein weather, it's alive! ALIVE!
Thank you, both….
I don’t know how to say this. After all, we don’t know one another.
Tonight I learned that my very best friend , whom I have known for decades, and over the very last year became so close that she was my very best friend. And we even both kind of started to come very very close to falling in love with one another.
Last night her 12 year old daughter used my good friends account to connect with me and tell me that my friend/her mother had passed away suddenly.
I am moving through the realms of surreal and tragic and beyond sad most, especially for her son and daughter. Myself as well.
During this confusing and odd and sad time, this video seemed oddly fitting, and I’m so glad to see both of you together and sharing this with us . Geez I’m crying so much. I can’t believe that voice to text is actually working. Heh. Sorry.
She was no super fan of horror but would have appreciated this video.
I’m sorry. It’s an awesome vid. I certainly don’t want to bring folks down. I love you guys and your content and it seemed to be….i dunno… I hope you understand.
I’m 49. She was very healthy, bright, happy, outstandingly gorgeous at age 49 and now she’s gone. So, I beg your forgiveness, understanding and a few Rum & Cokes that I feel compelled to say something.
Thank you again. Love and light…to anyone and everyone that may read this! ❤️
Love who you love and tell them every moment of every day!
I'm SO sorry for your loss 🙏😔 thanks for sharing. I know what you're feeling. I am about the same age as you guys. You and her family can support each other ❤️🌹 Take care...
I use to live just around the corner from St Pancras Gardens when I lived in London, not knowing the history until now, as a big frankenstein fan I wish I'd known the history then.
❤❤❤how exciting to visit along with you and visit one of the author of my favorite movie. Mucho respecto mis fantasma espantosos
The birth for Frankenstein is amazing story by Mary Shelley and her husband was part to play with the story of Frankenstein
Her parents are also famous and pretty fascinating in their own right.
Hey guys, great video, I am a descendent of a man named Conrad, Johan dippel, he is the person who inspired the character of Dr. Frankenstein. Look him up. He is a very interesting breed. He was an alchemist and a Satanist I just about everything else you can think of. He was not trying to bring someone back from the dead like Dr. Frankenstein was, but he did do his experiments at Frankenstein castle which our family used to own long ago. He was trying to create an elixir of life to Grant himself and his followers, eternal life.
If you come back to London, let me know I will show you around… that little St Pancras yard is just full of the most amazing stories ever…it will blow your mind….❤
Such a shame that they missed the Hardy-Tree, lost history, so glad we were there just days before its collapse
I know you guys don’t normally show yourselves eating or going to restaurants, but I appreciate when you do because they are always the coolest places🤩🙌🏼🍴
I used to work in Chester square (as a private chef) not very far from the house with the blue plaque ( opposite in fact ) what you might not know is that the late prime minister ( Margaret Thatcher) was leaving few doors Downs from the house I worked in. Great videos as usual. I really like the way that you explain things. Great job !!
LOVE that you also visited Weatherspoon's restaurant. They all make a nod to the town/ history they are in. There's a snobbery against them here in the UK but we love them. Another great video guys!
"Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay to mold me man? Did I solicit thee from darkness to promote me?" Mary Shelley was heavily influenced by Milton's 'Paradise Lost' and how that epic poem examined the relationship and moral accountability between an arrogant creator and his creation.
I highly recommend the Mary Shelley museum in bath, England. It’s very fascinating, with a lot of history and information. Also it has a Kenneth Branagh’s frankenstein pinball machine which is free to use... needless to say I played it for a good while when I was there
¿and are there any things from hammer movies or more from universal monsters?
@@lesleyrussell8200yes it also shows the legacy of Frankenstein from book to films to merchandise
Fascinating. I had to write an essay about Mary Wollstonecraft for my history degree and it's incredibly tragic that Mary Shelley lost her mother when she was a baby. Her life was likely shaped by that. Thank you for another great video. 💚
A Lotta new (to me) information from this Grimm adventure. As always, thanks for dragging us along. Grimm for Life! 👻
Very interesting. The part about her husband's heart was bizarre, yet fitting for the author of Frankenstein. Well done as usual.
As an English major and someone who's read both "The Vindication Of The Right Of Women" and "Frankenstein", i LOVED this! Can't wait to go one day myself (: thanks Grimm!
That was really informative and very atmospheric. I live about 40 miles away from Bournemouth, so will have to visit soon. The pub you visited is part of a chain that has pubs in most towns, but not with the same theme. A lot of them seem to have gained inspiration from the hotel from the shining with garish, swirly carpets and wooden chandeliers haha.
Oh yeah! Love Shelley! Great location! I need to go back and see if you guys have done Edgar Allen Poe yet.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, I am always beyond impressed with the amount of research you put into each of your stories/videos, and every time it pays off with an amazing video for your followers to watch
Again, like so many others, I so loved this video, it was spooktacular!
Something you showed at the beginning of the video (Not Mary Shelly related) was that stone etching of someone on the cross being turned upside down by two people.
I believe that is the apostle Peter who was also crucified, but because he did not want to be crucified like his Lord and Savior, he asked to be crucified upside down. The catholic church has an upside down cross that represents Peter's crucifixion (not to be satanic)
LOVED THIS VIDEO/STORY
THANK YOU MICHAEL AND JESSICA
HAPPY HALLOWEEN🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
Thanks for another great video. My roommate is a decendent of M. Shelley. We both love horror and your channel! The horror gene is strong! 😂
Very nice episode. I studied both Mary Wollstonecraft, who was part of feminism's first wave, and Mary Shelley for my master's in British Literature. I have always been fascinated with all things surrounding the penning of the novel. I do hope to visit her gravesite one day.
I've always been interested in Mary Shelley and the history behind Frankenstein. Thank you for such an awesome video!
Great video, and you got to experience two icons of English horror - Mary Shelley's grave ... and Wetherspoons.
WELL PLAYED, good sir. Well pickin' played! 😂😂😁😁🥳🥳
I'll take Wetherspoons over McDonald's or Costa any day.
Hi! I live in Bournemouth, and prior to covid, I used to Volenteer at the Shelley Theatre in Boscombe, Bournemouth, which is adjoined to Shelley Manor, and is where Mary’s son lived with his family.
When Mary became ill, he wanted to bring her down to Bournemouth, but sadly she died before he had the chance.
The theatre is very small, it only seats 160 people, but it’s very atmospheric!
In 2010, a performance of Frankenstein by candlelight was put on in the unrestored theatre, I bet that was extremely spooky!!
And the theatre opened as a performance venue in 2014.
I loved my time there, because, like you, I loved the connection to the family. Sadly it’s not re-opened since covid, but 🤞it will do in the very near future!
Thanks for drawing attention to Shelleys’ Grave here in Bournemouth.
Ps! Apparently Mary requested that her husbands’ heart be sent to her, so she could press it, and use it as a bookmark, which is exactly where her son found it………
My name is Eric Shane Shelley and I live in Albany Kentucky. I have always wondered if I was kin to the Shelley family. Hey thanks Michael and Jessica for another grim adventure. ❤️
I lived in Bournemouth between 2016 and 2018 used to visit the Shelley families tomb quite often infact I would sometimes take that route walking back from work through St Peters Churchyard, I like the fact that parts of the Church Yard have now been left to nature. Would be fantastic for a movie location. I am so glad you located the Wetherspoons The Mary Shelley. Another Famous Author also lived in Bornemouth Robert Louis Stevenson famous for the novel Dr Jekyl & Mr Hyde. Both he and his wife Fanny lived in a house called Skerryvore located at number 19 Alum Chine Rd Westbourne between 1884 and 1887. Whilst living there he wrote Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde, unfortunately nothing is left of the house as it was bombed during WW2 however the land that was once occupied by the house is now a garden dedicated to Robert Louis Stevenson. Watching this brought back some great memories.
If you guys haven't already seen it, there's a movie from the 80's called Gothic about that night in the castle in Switzerland with Lord Byron et al when Mary came up with the story. Definitely worth a watch.....
That's a great movie!
Inspiring a new cemetery with each stone cast and carried. Until the next time, It's Alive!
I am just glad that Mary Shelly wrote Frankenstein, it is now a cult classic. But seriously I never heard about taking someone's heart and putting it in a jar with wine to preserve it. And Mary making love to Percy on her mother's grave, that is so crazy. That is something to write in the books for sure #RIPMaryShelly
So enjoyed this episode. Mary Shelley was an interesting woman with a wild mind. Frankenstein is an awesome story and so out there for the time.
What an Amazing grave to visit very cool
Another interesting and entertaining Grimm Adventure! Great video…learned a lot
I always loved the story of Mary! It was also so sad as far as everything she went through but she wrote one of the most amazing books. I wonder if Frankenstein was in reference to her husband he was so sweet at first then he turned into a monster.
Frankenstein is a twist on the Greek myth of Prometheus. Prometheus brings fire to humans despite Zeus’ warning not to, and pays the ultimate price. Frankenstein, like Prometheus, is over prideful of his ability to bring the dead to life. His excessive pride leads to his demise. So, the story warns to keep your pride in check. It also questions God and creation. But that’s a whole other analysis. 😂
@@waterhorse5199Amazing analysis! Thank-you for this!
great vid...there's a wiki article called "Year without a summer" that touches on all the significant things that came out of the bizarre yr of 1816 including F-stein and the first vampire story.
Link? 🙏🏻
@@random22026 yt often deletes links, if u type in what i have in quotes and then "wiki" itll take you to it.
Another well spoken, researched and ineresting peice. 👏
and i agree, there shoud be a plaque at Marys Mothers grave...but im suprised that her stone is still there!
Another awesome video by the Grimms. Such amazing views of the cemetery. The trivia that you've included is very intriguing. Happy Halloween
I haven't even watched it yet, but every time - every single time there's a new post on this European tour - it's an absolute joy. It has been soooooo good. The subject matter, the information, the filming. Honestly, you must both be proud, it's been a cracking achievement.
Great job again Mike and Jess. This past Oct. I attended a Cleveland Playhouse performance of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein- it was mainly a story of how Mary’s tragedies and life led to her writing of the book. It was a great take on a classic tale.
This is awesome I always wondered where she was buried at and how she came up with the story.
What an intriguing and surreal video! Absolutely amazing story of Mary Shelley's life. I learned quite a lot about her. Love you both! Never stop what you do! ❤❤❤
You guys have officially become my comfort channel. This video is awesome!! Thanks for taking us along
Awesome! Happy we can be there and thank you for watching. Happy Halloween.
Great video! Thanks for everything you all do at the expense of our entertainment!!
Good old Wetherspoons, we have the Peter Cushing my neck of the woods.
"We are practising carrot crunchers but occasionally we slip in the odd slice of cow"
How we all laughed.
Another fascinating and interesting video. You two take us to places where most of us will never travel to visit and let us see them up close and personal with interesting stories to share about the locations. Thank you for sharing all these videos and keep up the good work.
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein may just be the greatest horror story ever written.
Poor Mary. from being a teen wife, mother, losing many of her children before they could even reach a higher age, only one living to adulthood. It's amazing to me how a teenager lived a life that was both adventures, as well as " so full of sadness". That from this sadness came her most famous novel " Frankenstein". And from having no idea what to write, after when Lord Byron said they should all write a chilling tale. Then that " waking vision" she had of a mad student, working a sparking machine, and a mound of dead yellow flesh, on top of slab gave her that spark to unleash her inner demons she was carrying since not knowing her mother ( thinking it was her fault for her entire life, that her mother died just 12 days after Mary's birth.") Her father disowning her after when she married Shelley. , then having a few miscarriages, and losing a daughter from an illness. As well as many more tragedies that happened in Mary's life. To write a novel about a monster who was rejected by his creator, then the world, then the image of bringing something back to life, (her dead children). Is a heart wrenching tale regardless of if you know the background of the plot.
I had to read Frankenstein so many times for classes in college.
I really appreciate your incredibly interesting stories! Greetings from Poland, Central Europe!
🖤💚🎃🌚Did you know... Mary wrote “Frankenstein” as part of a contest with her friends and husband to see who could write the scariest story? All this was brought on due to a volcanic eruption in Indonesia that blacked out the sky for quite some time, forcing many people to stay inside. To ease the boredom, this contest was created. The mood/tone of the story is all inspired by the tragedy Mary experiences in her life as well as being in darkness for so long due to this volcanic eruption. 🧟♀️
Brilliant - Neither thought i'd see you guys in a UK Wetherspoons! Glad you're enjoying yourselves. Your videos are excellent.
I love that Jessica takes Shawn around with her
& let me tell you something…. I know you were @ the Mary Shelly Tour, but right @ St Pancras old church is the grave of John Polidori author of The Vampyr & the doctor of Lord Byron. Both were with Shelly & Percy together the night she wrote Frankenstein. I live between Highgate& St Pancras . Have a nice one!
As a book reader and a fan of her work this was a complete treat. What a beautiful video.
You pick all the right places to see--exactly the same list that I would visit if I could!
This channel is so on fire I'm even seeing it on Peacock's "Myth of the Zodiac Killer" documentary
You just never know where we are going to show up next
@@grimmlifecollective Thought the doc was uneven and took some leaps of logic, but I popped when I saw you!
What an amazing story! It's almost as good as the story she came up with. Terrific video!
As it sounds of the story, that Percy really gave his heart to Mary Shelly!! 💙💙💙 Michael, I love your editing style, as always! I definitely learned more than I knew of Mary Shelly. It sounds like she was the goth of her time. Jessica, I love your big kid, lighthearted-self as always. The black sheep reminds me of the U.S. Serta Sheep! 😅 It’s cute! Of course the black sheep version.
It's super weird you guys are like an hour away from me! I wouldn't have predicted this years ago when I watched my first grimmlife video about River Phoenix
Merry Christmas 🎄 😍 ♥️. Hugs 🫂 from Brazil 🇧🇷 💖
You two are having an amazing trip and seeing things and places that most people couldn't dream of. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome trip. Safe travels and as always, Happy Halloween.
A classic monster. Dr Frankenstein is the monster's father, but Mary Shelley is the mother. Your trip has been very illustrative. Thanks Grimm Life Collective.
Happy Halloween 🎃.
Thank you guys once again!!!! Another one of my favorite peoples ❣️ I've always enjoyed classical reads and seeing and learning more makes my day☺️

One love from Scotland i lived in Bournemouth for years im so glad you doing this i actually know the ex cannon from st Peter's church and visted mary shelley's grave happy holidays 🏴🏴❤
You guys’ videos are always so amazing, I absolutely love them! The expression on your face after saying “we may be going there for lunch…” had me rolling! Fascinating life story about Mary Shelley. And yes, if you think about it, it IS VERY COOL! 😎
I have a full arsenal of facts about Mary Shelley. Things oddly enough I picked up during my time taking Sociology and English classes in Univerity.
Mary's mother was basically the founder of feminism (Mary Wollstonecraft), some believe that her mother's freethinking led Mary down a similar path heridatarily. She would argue with scholars like herself, one being William Wordsworth. She would have arguments with him either in person or in letter. This especially happened with his later works. Her father was also a scholar and would frequently invite his scholar friends over. She lived a very well-read and educated life!
But the most surprising fact that I know is that at her young age, Samuel Taylor Coleridge (another author), he had recited some of his poetry to Mary. The poems scared her so much and she hid behind the couch! She also makes many allusions to him in Frankenstein. The work she may have been inspired by was "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" due to them both being a similar story. This may also be the story which scared Mary!!
Great video guys and enjoyed hearing about Mary Shelley..her story was very interesting...loved this and always enjoy your videos Michael and Jessica 😊... watching from Arkansas.... Mary.... Happy Halloween 🎃☠️👻... Frankenstein......
You two are living the life that most of us dream of! I love watching your videos and adding to my bucket list lol. Thank you for sharing with us!

Another great video from the grimlife collective. Love you guys. I'd love to bump into filming in London.
Amazing to visit an Icon in horror. Y'all as always did it again. Happy Halloween y'all. Of course be safe.
Great video, you've really integrated with UK culture by having a meal in the local 'Spoons....👍👍
To think, that all you may have of your dead spouse, is their heart, and is wrapped up in a poem, buried with you……….
Indulging in your latest lore, as Grimm fans we do thrive; and through the murky depths of time we cry... It's Alive!!!
Our country has wonderful stories to tell, another awsome post guys, keep them coming xx
Thank you for watching. Happy Halloween.
It is like a horror history class with you two.. lol.. Perfect.. You two are doing a great service,, The roots of horror movies .. If I haven't said it before.. I love you guys... Peace two both of you,, PS .. I thought I was a werewolf till I was 10... LOL ..
Mary spent a lot of time in Dundee, Scotland from the age 14-16. She stayed at a Jute baron’s mansion called The Cottage. Dundee was a whaling port and big jute manufacturer around this time so was probably pretty grim place! It also sits on the River Tay which sometimes gets this dense fog travelling up on the river called Haar, it still happens and is very atmospheric when it does. This would have been her first taste of some kind of freedom in her life. I am sure the city must have been quite the experience for her, The Cottage was very close to where the whaling ships would come in. Thanks for another great video, best wishes for 2024 to everyone!
“Dundee, the then-whaling capital of the world was “Blubbertown”; the scale of its industry and rapacious plunder of the Arctic almost beyond belief. In Dundee’s docks Mary would have seen whale carcasses towed into harbour, carcasses of seals, walruses and polar bears by the thousand and vast piles of tusks and bones on the quays”
“In the preface to the 1831 edition of the novel which appeared under her own name, Mary paid fulsome tribute to the town: “the aerie of freedom … [where] the airy flights of my imagination were born and fostered.”
I live in Bracknell a very unremarkable Once small town in southern England ,lived here most of my life and only last year i walked past a cottage that ive gone past hundreds of times literally over the years and it has a blue plaque on it , and last year i just glanced at it and written on it ......Percey Byshee Shelly 1792- 1822 Poet ,Democrat, ( long word beginning with P i cant be arsed to spell) lived here. All those years and never knew that. Just thought id chuck that in as your on the subject . Great video as always..👍🏻
You guys always find the best sites to visit! Awesome! Happy Halloween all! 💀👻
My hometown! Thanks for listening to my suggestion!
Another great video! Didn't Mary Shelley have a connection to the castle owned now by Lady Colin Campbell, Castle Goring? Perhaps she just owned it but didn't live there. I don't know but maybe you do? Anyway I enjoyed your talk and drooled over your meal, onion rings of course! And yes, Happy Halloween!👻
Great book and its very good on audio book and a great movie Classic Monster
Feels like there’s a new Grimm video every day and I’m f*#%+*# loving it!! 🇬🇧
Absolutely loved watching this. I thought I would just see Mary's grave but was able to witness the beloved St Pancras Church aswell.
No way you came to Bournemouth 😄🖤 that's LA, Edinburgh and now Bournemouth that we've crossed paths. Amazing vid.
Please please come to Glastonbury town for Beltane 2024, hail the queen of the may, I have been watching your page for years and introduced my fiancé to your page, he loves everything you do. We will be there for Beltane as our pre wedding honeymoon, please watch Glastonbury Gabriel as he does a fab page, blessed be xx
Now you guys are REALLY making me jealous. Visiting Whitby, England the birthplace of Dracula was awesome already, but to have visited the grave of Mary Shelley, author of one of the greatest monster stories of all time, is just amazing. Yes, she had a lot of tragedy in her life which was reflected in her writings, including Frankenstein, but I'm glad that she was laid to rest with her husband and son in a nice pretty cemetery, I just hope she doesn't mind it wherever she is now.
