Something that has always been a pet peeve of mine about perfumes is when these niche houses don’t offer samples, which I’m so glad Papillon does. I think it’s a sign of confidence in their work, that they know if someone buys a sample they’ll want to purchase a full bottle because it’s that good. Great video! New to your channel and really enjoying it:)
Thanks so much and welcome to the channel Within the last week or so I reviewed a 4300 dollar fragrance that doesn't do samples or refunds lol Go check that out if you want a laugh
Great impressions! All hail Thomas for his Thomas ways as well. Couldn't agree more that Liz has one of the best artisan brands out there. Really hope she keeps putting her work out there. Her very sensible release schedule harkens back to the old days too. None of this 5-a-year nonsense.
I just bought a bottle of this for my birthday. It's the second scent ive owned. My first was au coer du Désert by Andy Tuer, which I've used sparingly and lovingly for years and now Dryad. I smelled so many things in the shop for a long time, but mostly a ton of vegetal and white flower scents. I took a walk around the block to smell it until I decided what to choose. It totally blows me away and and is challenging me to understand why. This review is helpful as I smell along.
@@RamseytheRamdo you have a recommendation on something to try next? New to perfume, wore the amber Tuer for years, just discovered what a chypre was when I smelled Dryad and Nuit de Bakelite the other day. It was hard for me to chose between the two because I liked those both, for different reasons. But I ended with Dryad. I know your not a crystal ball but Dryad really cracked me open and I want to try more novel and complex things.
I have every perfume from her line, and there isn’t one that I don’t absolutely love. Salome is my favorite, but something about Angelique that gets me in a way I don’t yet know how to describe. Love Liz.
I almost like Dryad, but the opening and mid are too abrasively bitter. I suppose I prefer my greens with a healthy dash of citrus. The dry down is very, very nice, though. Anubis remains the only Papillon I wholeheartedly adore, though I bet I could warm up to Dryad if I kept at it.
@@RamseytheRam I have a sample of Salome. It’s never the right day to try it. I did a virtual snelling with you as I watched your vid and I did warm up even more to Dryad. Not taking the $200 plunge, though. Wish we got 15-30ml options for Papillon as they’re pretty heavy hitting and it would take three lifetimes to drain a 50ml Anubis. I appreciate the creators need to make a living, though.
Knew this was a fragrance close to my heart ,so after the no buy till Areej and Bortnikoff colab release I think I should grab one . Great review man catch ya later ✌️🙏👍
Just received my sample yesterday and wearing it now. So beautiful! I love the vegetal sharpness of the opening, mellowing into such a beautiful, rounded golden amber that still retains the green essence. I have a slight sensitivity to oakmoss(at least that’s what I think it is), so I have to be a little bit careful with these types of fragrances. But yes, this is certainly full bottle worthy!
Love papillon perfumes so much that I now have a full bottle of Hera. I have smelled their other offerings and liked them as well. But Dryad is different. It is Dry , it is green , it’s more dry and more green and it goes on like that. I give full marks to the quality but the scent is not for me. I loved the review though. Can’t wait for you to open/unbox the package containing samples on Monday.
Magnificent fragrance, the person carrying this kind of fragrances does not care about other people's opinion, they know what they love and what they want
I love Papillon, and I think Dryad is one of Liz’s fragrances that dance and transform with wear. My thoughts while wearing Dryad: immediately, Guerlain. Mitsouko. Is this too similar to Hera (which also brought to mind Mitsouko)? A touch of the hay and sun in Un Jardin à Cythère. Some animalics from Salomé. Grass, herbs. Some of the smokiness from Anubis. What a beauty.
I'm interested in a longer impression. Recently found S125 barely has any staying power, sadly it seems to be a theme with the house when digging further.
I have never had that problem with any of them, i could smell Dryad in different states of drydown for like 18 hours ... liz uses high quality materials and those materials translate to amazing longevity.. at least on my skin 🤷🏻♂️
Yet again! You reviewed a fragrance I ordered a sample of several days ago and am waiting to receive! ( as you did with Aquilaria Blossom, which I commented on). Anyway, I ordered the sample of Dryad because I love Vol De Nuit and, as I mentioned to you before, Private Collection is my favorite fragrance of all time ( wore it in high school and college). Anyway, this was another of your engaging, colorful reviews, jam packed with great insight for the new niche collector. Thanks again!
I do love all of Liz Moore’s fragrances, and Dryad has always been among my favorites, however, I agree that not many people comment on this perfune. (I have no idea who Thomas is). Ramsey, thanks for reviewing Dryad and and giving it the love it deserves.
Hey man, I just found your channel and wanted to ask if you have videos or documentaries to recommend on the history of perfumes and perfumery, doesnt matter how far back and up to the 80s..preferably ones available on TH-cam..thanks
Thanks for watching & commenting... look up Rojas talk at the perfume society... its a history of fragrance jam packed into about an hour format... but there are many many more if you look 🍻
Did you have the chance to sniff Bandit Supreme? I just order a decant of Bandit Supreme before purchase a full bottle of Dryad. Is it also close to Dryad as Bandit you have?
I don't like Dryad not because it's Green Chypre. It's lacking in creativity. If we already have Guerlain chamade , Givenchy III , Balmain Vent Vert , even Gucci no.3 , especially Chanel No.19 ,then Why do we need a imitated version which is not so good.
I disagree its an imitated version... chanel No 19 came out in 1971 ... was it an imitation of Givenchy III from 1970? Was Givenchy III an imitation of YSL from 1964? Sorry I just dont see it I also think Dryad is a great example of a style that was popular in the 60s and 70s but what about popular Green fragrances like Vol de nuit... were the 70s green frags like Private collection just a cheap imitation of vol de nuit ? Is synthetic jungle a cheap imitation of green fragrances like private collection just because it was released previously.. i just dont see it. Also you cant buy Vent Vert anymore ...not unless you get the newest version which is NOT what it once was. Givenchy III in the better vintage version is discontinued so there are lots of issues in my mind with your argument ..but thats just one 🐏 opinion
@@RamseytheRam Now is not 60s or 70s, maybe Dryad is just fine in that time but NOT today. I still hold my opinion. After all the classic good Green Chypre were came out,I didn't see any brilliant ,creativity or extraordinary in Dryad. Actually kind of boring.I'm a Chypre lover and luckly got some well preserved vintages during those years(mostly from Japan, just like a vintage heaven, land of treasures).I didn't mean all the products came out later are imitations of previous works. But obviously Dryad is one of them. Imitation is a common case even Jacques Guerlain did that too(from Coty). Those products I simply listed just to demonstrate their uniqueness in Green Chypre. But anyway enjoy your scent.Don't le me ruin that😅A thousand hamlets are in a thousand people's noses.Nice day.

A beautiful fragrance indeed but I didn't get Mitsouko at all personally... this is much closer to vol de nuit... the deeper richer darker Extrait
