i never like station wagons... but i now see that they can be absolutly amazing! both these cars are extremelly respectable and have changed my point of veiw on wagons!! way to go motor trend and cadillac!
@mrdarkknight Right...just because you have seen a couple of dyno charts of turbo-equipped cars (which are still below the advertised hp vs whp), doesn't mean they deduct drivetrain loss. They are just underrating the cars to ensure the horsepower would be over the claimed figure under all conditions---and turbos respond really well to temperature and elevation.
knowing what a crazy machine a CTS-V wagon is already in regular form (if one can call it regular) this D3 package truly must be above and beyond total madness, it is unbelievable how that things just pulls and pulls and pulls away from the "regular" one and has several car lengths on it as it shoots through the finish line. there is a clip on here that shows a CTS-V wagon (stock) beating a Ferrari California in a drag race. i recommend that one too. greetings.
@TMWarMoth I agree with you, I'd even go for the sedan over the coupe, but if you have family needs and your wife absolutely wants something practical, then the wagon might be an excellent idea!
@venom5809 It's not always the case. As he said, sometimes you have so much more power, that traction becomes an issue, and in these circunstances you have to be so careful with the throttle, that the most powerful car is actually slower.
@T67GS300 Power: • 707 bhp @ 6,300 rpm Acceleration: • 0-60 mph: 3.2 sec. • 1/4 Mile: 10.9 @ 128 mph • Top Speed: 211 mph thats the benchmark for 700hp cts-v, i will be impressed if the next m5 will get a 0-60 less than 3 seconds
@Marshmallowrex Uhm, no, it makes 629 wheel horse power. Which translates to roughly 723 brake horse power after you consider in the estimated 15% power train loss (which is quite conservative).
I owned a Vista Cruiser wagon with a 455ci big block back in the day....if I remember correctly the tank would run a mid-14. It would get 10 mpg downhilll with a tailwind. It would have definitely smoked the Griswald's family truckster. LOL!
@edmaluf yep - that's why looking at trap speeds is important bc if someone spun but then finally grips an hauls major *** then u know u have a truly fast car, not just one with good tires and/or AWD
@sakimano I agree. Looking at other cars like the MB E55s people that are making around 500whp in a similar weight car are doing 120+ traps on dragtimes.
@Lunaticfringe1001 I agree with you. I definitely believe that just stating crank hp is overrated. Dyno is definitely best measurement. My point was that saying 675 / 675 and saying they lied... only meant that they were putting out MORE then what they said it would do at the crank.
@oDTheTruth ......that's odd:/ i KNOW porsche owners that dyno tested their cars and they said it puts up a little more than the manufacturer's claim. I also watched a dyno test of an E92 M3 somewhere a while back and it put up a bunch of extra horses.
@schulzbrianr They said it makes 675hp and 675tq (at the crank I'm assuming), they then say that is a lie because the dyno chart says 629rwhp and 659 rwtq. Horsepower and torque is lost through the drive train. People typically estimate about 15% is lost. Once you convert the rwhp and rwtq numbers to account for this, you get about 740 hp and 775 tq. Even if the drivetrain is quite efficient in this car, 10% loss for example, its still putting out about 700hp and 730tq.
@mrdarkknight Check the E90 forums, the porsche forums, etc... ANY car forums, there's always someone who dynos a stock car, normally for comparison before modifications, etc. K&N tends to have dynos of before\after their intakes, etc... but horsepower at crank does not equal horsepower at wheels. Regardless.
You first say D3 claims its 675hp/675tq, but then go on to say it has 629hp/659tq. You said it in a way that makes it sound like its MORE than they claim, but the numbers are lower. Did you mean 729 and 759?
THe point is that this car is a phenomenon, and for just 14k in upgrades, only a small number of production cars in the world can beat you at ANY price.
@tdotpiggaz im glad, if it wasnt for you guys we wouldnt be getting a new gt500 in 2013 with 600hp+ with barely any supercharger whine which equals a very conservative tune. suppost to be 0-60 in the mid 3's. but that doesnt mean anything my mustang with full track suspension and eagle f1's can get 0-60 in about 4 flat with a passenger in the car
@bnz500 Where do you get this information? The CTS uses the "sigma" chassis, not the Zeta from the Commodore. Cadillac's been using this chassis since 2004, it is NOT the same. The interior looks nothing like the interior of a VE, hell we got the VE as the G8, and the CTS's interior has nothing in common with it. The wheels might be the same but thats about it. And the LSA is not stroked at all, it's the same 6.2L as the LS3 and there's more to it than a supercharger...double check your sources
@oDTheTruth BMWs and Porsches actually publish their horsepower figures after deducting the drivetrain loss. Take ANY porsche, put it on a dyno and you'll it actually puts out more horsepower than on paper.
@Lunaticfringe1001 yeah the same supercharger on a supersnake has 725hp on a 5.4l engine and the new gt500 is a 5.8. it suppost to come from the factory with 600hp
@mrdarkknight Not true. I've seen a 328xi, that put down 203hp on the awd dyno, from a 230hp horsepower rating. Trust me, no one puts down horsepower figures after deducting drivetrain loss. You can find countless threads on forums of owners of such cars who dyno their stock BMWs and Porsches and will find the numbers are lower then whats noted because of drivetrain loss.
@Lunaticfringe1001 i definetly think there is a difference is supercharger whine between 15psi and maybe 5psi...... thats what i mean. theyre running a bigger engine with a bigger supercharger and running lower boost from the factory
wow, that is alot of hp going to those rear wheels in that D3, if it made that much at the rear wheels ( according to the dyno the found in glovebox) this beast is making round 800 hp at the motor, unbelievable . i love America
Wagons are for people who haven't given up, who have had kids but decided they aren't going to just join the soccer mom/dad club.. They're the efficient alternative to SUVs and the cool alternative to minivans. And the only choice for having a highly practical but still fun vehicle.
The Cadillac V WAGON (stock)?? The best sport wagon in the world in my opinion... then w/ fourteenK u can improve it tooo muchh and the racing design is absolutly amazing. I
i never like station wagons... but i now see that they can be absolutly amazing! both these cars are extremelly respectable and have changed my point of veiw on wagons!! way to go motor trend and cadillac!
I was expecting much less of video. You surpassed my expectaions. Good work guys.
Great race! Really visualized the numerical differences. Also...the wine of that super charge is awesome!
So you're saying that the D3 Wagon is slower than my stock CTS-V? I really don't get these numbers.
@mrdarkknight Right...just because you have seen a couple of dyno charts of turbo-equipped cars (which are still below the advertised hp vs whp), doesn't mean they deduct drivetrain loss. They are just underrating the cars to ensure the horsepower would be over the claimed figure under all conditions---and turbos respond really well to temperature and elevation.
best motortrend reviewer.....get this guy on more reviews stat

I already planned on getting a CTS-V Wagon. Now I know what must be done to it.
holy shit! the car (the exact same car) with more power won the race! you learn something new every day!
That supercharger whine is face meltingly awesome!!!
Loving the sound of that supercharger.
@TMWarMoth I agree with you, I'd even go for the sedan over the coupe, but if you have family needs and your wife absolutely wants something practical, then the wagon might be an excellent idea!

awesome video!!!! cznt wait to own one of these in a couple of years
god it is sick. Is the D3 lower or is it just a body kit?Then again id be perfectly happy with the regular V lol
@T67GS300
Power:

on the LSX block I would hope,those small blocks breath so well turbos don't lag a smig
Than's a nicely thought out, nicely executed video, good job!
@edmaluf yep - that's why looking at trap speeds is important bc if someone spun but then finally grips an hauls major *** then u know u have a truly fast car, not just one with good tires and/or AWD
finally! D3 is getting some notice that really counts!!! i love my D3 sts-v
Love the soundtrack of the wagons
@sakimano I agree. Looking at other cars like the MB E55s people that are making around 500whp in a similar weight car are doing 120+ traps on dragtimes.

This is a great video showing how 14k of upgrades improves straight line performance.
This is the coolest wagon on earth!
@oDTheTruth ......that's odd:/ i KNOW porsche owners that dyno tested their cars and they said it puts up a little more than the manufacturer's claim. I also watched a dyno test of an E92 M3 somewhere a while back and it put up a bunch of extra horses.
snd the D3 hp and torque ratings arent lying, the are just the numbers from the crank, 629 was the numbers from the rear wheel
the engine noise is just amazing
@25Celtics Yeah, no kidding. It was fun to watch though!
my eyes are literally watering watching this
Who would of ever thought that a wagon could put a smile on my face
thats the fastest and coolest station wagon i have ever seen!!! this is why i love america!
@whiteandnerdytuba
G-Power Hurricane RR M5
Power:
800bhp @ 8,000 rpm
0-60: 4.3 seconds (massive wheelspin)
1/4 mile: Unknown

Love the sound of the supercharger
@radar3699 It's 625 at the wheels, not the flywheel.
cts-v wagon in my mind is probably the most bad-ass, best sounding wagons on the market. Looks sick too.
@chayang23 A 2011 GTR starts in the 90K range
LOVE the sound of that whining supercharger of the D3 CTS-V!! :)
MUSIC TO MA EARS!!!!!!
THe point is that this car is a phenomenon, and for just 14k in upgrades, only a small number of production cars in the world can beat you at ANY price.

holy hell that d3 exhaust is badass

so stock wagon did it in 12.5@115mph?
I don't think they are lying if they stated the ENGINE horsepower was 675 and they weren't stating the rear wheel results after drivetrain loss.
okay okay but how does it handle? it's basically a Corvette with a different body.
@Lunaticfringe1001 yeah the same supercharger on a supersnake has 725hp on a 5.4l engine and the new gt500 is a 5.8. it suppost to come from the factory with 600hp
Not much of a Cadi fan, But i love the sound of it
i ran 11.8 bone stock... why would i spend 14k??
@IxOVERKILLxI but you noticed that.. the Z06 and ZR1 did this by no HP gains and only in RWD.. id would like to see the GTR do the same feat..
@mrdarkknight Not true. I've seen a 328xi, that put down 203hp on the awd dyno, from a 230hp horsepower rating. Trust me, no one puts down horsepower figures after deducting drivetrain loss. Can a Modded CTS-V Wagon beat a stock CTS-V Wagon. Hum Motortrend quite a thoughy
@jimster502 Definitely, same engine, so these the D3 package would fit on a coupe or sedan.
@MotorTrend what brand glasses are the ones that he is wearing?
The supercharger in the D3 sounds so fckin sick!!
the swaggest station wagon ever!
I'd still take a Volvo Wagon from the 90s as a kid.. goddamn the back was wonderful
@Lunaticfringe1001 i definetly think there is a difference is supercharger whine between 15psi and maybe 5psi...... thats what i mean. theyre running a bigger engine with a bigger supercharger and running lower boost from the factory
@woodnh I think this and the BMW M3 vs. 5.0 mustang are the the best
@oDTheTruth the 2.0T in the GTI displayed more power than its factory claim
One word for the best wagons on the planet...Avant! C6RS6 Avant is 5.2L V10TT. Winning!
I get to drive this next weekend
@chayang23 the 2013 GTR is supposed to have 550-560 HP which will smoke this 629HP Cadii
did you see the curb rash on the wagons wheel?
@woodnh Does sound amazing!
wow, that is alot of hp going to those rear wheels in that D3, if it made that much at the rear wheels ( according to the dyno the found in glovebox) this beast is making round 800 hp at the motor, unbelievable . i love America

when are we getting these in Aus ???
I donut like wagons but dame they are nice and fast as hell.Now that is a sleeper.
Kind of cool. To me they should have just tested the stock one though. $14,000 in upgrades would hopefully make any car quite a bit faster.
What was the purpose of this test?!
OMG, amazing. An almost 700hp wagon? Yes Please!
@radar3699 not if its the henessey 1000+ hp powerwagon- it matches zr1 performance
@andrerumistein
What's the point? They don't compete, sadly the Avant isn't sold in North America.
why is it 14 grand for a smaller pulley, and exhaust and a tune?
@2:02...that's one of the best sounding burnouts....almost sound like a nascar.
can you atleast wash the bumper with a wetnap before doing close up shots?
@twztd28 maybe in a roll but in a quarter mile it's pretty much close if not identical to the stuck zo6 performance in the run to 0-60 and 1/4mile
You should test the Hennessey 1000hp twin turbo version of the wagon.
Why in the world would choose a rim that was curbed to focus in on twice?
@venom5809 thank you it is.
@LittleMikeStarCraft I hate both these cars but that raspy exhaust is beautiful
LONG LIVE CADILLAC!
@LiquidRetro I'm referring to a used 2010 GTR.
The Cadillac V WAGON (stock)?? The best sport wagon in the world in my opinion... then w/ fourteenK u can improve it tooo muchh and the racing design is absolutly amazing. I
I need one of those!!!!!! V8 550+ HP RWD 6MT what else do you need !!!! (And that's why i love GM)
What's with all the editing effects on a car that's dirty with banged up rims???
God I love how a supercharger sounds. Eargasm.
@bnz500 No they aren't, everything from the bare frame of the car to the engines are different.
Great Vid! Kick Ass Wagon's
GOOD OLE AMERICAN MUSCLE BABY!!!
Could the exhaust notes be any sweeter?!!
Lol the kerb mark on the wheels at 1:55
Is that not one of the best engine sound tracks in the last 10 years?
I'll take either
race starts at 4:00
