I was only recently bitten by the aviation bug and it wasn't long before I realized what a valuable resource AOPA is. AOPA Live, Real Pilot Stories and Accident Case Studies are my new TH-cam addiction. Many thanks to everyone involved from this new AOPA member!

    Thanks for all that do!

The best battery currently available has 700 Wh/L of energy density (max). Gasoline - 9,700 Wh/L. Diesel 10,942 Wh/L. It's going to take a big technological leap to make electric anything ubiquitous.
I watched the "stall / spin" video earlier today. I don't look forward to crash stories but I do look forward to the process of learning from Real Pilot Stories and Accident Case Studies. The 14 year old made me smile. The future of aviation is in good hands.
You guys always do a great job on these weekly updates. Thanks a bunch

Assuming you need a longer range, that is correct, but I recently flew Calgary to Kelowna for 1+ 05 and electric could have easily handled that. Many flights in commuter aircraft are short haul and can adapt to electric while saving huge bills in overhaul, airframe fatigue, not to mention passenger comfort. I'm looking forward to electric.

@@jimboagogo I build LiFePo4 battery packs, up to about 30Ah. I've tried various forms of battery tech. For now, the probability of failure on demand of any battery isn't that great. I hope power density and reliability (especially in a high frequency vibration environment) improve. It's not there yet.

@@MichaelLloyd good to know. I know the Li batteries have come a long way from the 80's when we used them in ELT's only because nothing else could meet the 40 hrs at -40C requirement of the day. Several fires ensued.

@@ashsmitty2244 It's a coin cell and it's not even ready for prime time. Nothing was said about density, Ie how many Wh/L of energy density its capable of. We'll see what the future brings us

In regards to who is in control of the airspace around cities and towns, I think the cities/towns could "control" part of the airspace, like up to 3000 ft, then the FAA controls the rest

    • @paulo7200

That would spell the end of general aviation the moment that came into being.

Nope, airspace is federally controlled. It would be a disaster if you had local rules over every city or town as Paul said.

Tiltwing is the way to go for vtol taxi. And minimal lean design. That flying disc is ridiculous. The airbus is fairly rational although big. I would start with single seaters. People mostly travel alone and aircraft get expensive the bigger they are.

there needs to be a new aircraft that runs on auto gas that's under 80k a new Vett is harder to make more advanced then any 172 theres no reason it needs to cost 400k thats you " aopa that's the old guys with money keeping it that way

    • @paulo7200

Cars are manufactured at scale whereas aircraft are not. If Cessna could sell 500K units per year, they might be able to sell them for $80k.

Batteries only hold 1/43 the power per weight. Way off the mark.

i dont understand how you want to gain more pilots but you dont want to gain more aircraft or even make it viable for aircraft access whats the point of young eagles when its cheaper for a young person to pick up smack and hookers then it is to have access to a 172 .. you wan to grow .. make it available don't pat yourself on the back for saying on i introed a person who's never going to have the means ,
