      So sorry this happened to you guys! Traintravel in Sweden can be a nightmare. I've had many trips prolonged by cancelled trains. Usually there is another train or bus you can take and you get compensated if it's delayed by more than 20 minutes (we really need to step up our traingame).
      I hope you enjoy Stockholm and if you have the courtage to give trains another try and if you want to see two countries in one trip, I would recommend going Gothenburg-Oslo.

      @@vanellsart what's the reason for this nightmare? Is it management or weather?

    • @evabohmies5305
      @evabohmies5305 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@monsterlove2323 Coppertheft and some bad communication mostly, I think. The weather shouldn't really be an issue this south in Sweden, but they blame the delays on it sometimes.

    I’m so
    Surprised by your experience on the swedish railways. I take that exact route many many times a year and I have never had an issue. It makes me angry seeing people saying they’ll never take the Swedish trains because of this. They usually do work well apart from some minor delays. Having said that, if you need to be somewhere on time, you should fly.

    There are a ton of trains that goes from Copenhagen airport to Malmo. They can be full where people do stand. The trip between is only 20 mins. Those trains also go North up to Stockholm. I've only went on the trip once. I honestly never tried first class train. My longest train ride was 5 hours from Prague and Vienna.

    Hey Nice find Eric! If you're going to play musical chairs do it with Organic wine. 😂 Hopefully because you didn't get First class that they either reimbursed you guys for the ticket or gave you al the beer and wine you can handle for 5 hours. We've learned as full time travelers that you always have to say positive because any other way will just make the situation feel so much worse. Glad you made it to your cool Airbnb and that your host made it the perfect ending to your day. By the way, we had this happen to us twice at the airports. 🍷🍷

    Sorry to hear you are having troubles with our Swedish railway. It's awful and I try to avoid it whenever I can. Sadly fly ✈ is the way here and the politicians are not treating our railway as they should with our tax money. Been like this for at least 20 years or so. You should get your money back or 50% so email the railway operator.
    Again fly in Sweden when it's big distances like Malmö-Stockholm.

    My Daughter traveled from Copenhagen to Hamburg and her train was also several hours late, which wouldn't be so awful except she had to be at the train station extremely early in the morning. I traveled on a EurailPass back in the 80's and my ticket allowed for 2nd class rail travel, but my train in Italy showed up with only first class cars. We were stuck in a situation where we had to travel that day, so we got on the train and sat in the little room where they stored supplies like toilet paper, etc. I was just ready to fight with someone that my seat was first class if they complained about me being on the train, but nobody even cared. Other students joined us in the storage room and we had a great time. You just never know when you are going to make great memories.

    Last year we travelled by train between Copenhagen and Stockholm and we were told to get on a random train to Malmo because our train also didn't leave from Copenhagen (even though our booking said it did). We got asked to show our tickets on the train and the conductor said we shouldn't have been on that train but was really nice and found out which platform we had to leave from in Malmo because there was a really tight connection. Luckily for us the trip to Stockholm in our first class seats was really comfortable and non-eventful.

    I did a round trip Stockholm /Copenhagen, and each way there was a delay. There was some sort of maintenance thing. Plus, this was about 3-4 years ago when they added extra security between Denmark and Sweden. My trips still went pretty smooth, once we got past Malmö’s security check.

    I have ridden that same train route, in first class. It wasn’t that great.
    Next I went Stockholm to Oslo, on the high speed train, which was stuck behind a slow stoping train, arriving over an hour late.
    Then I caught a train from Oslo, to Gothenburg, Actually, no I didn’t. There was engineering work between Oslo and the Swedish border. They put on a replacement bus service. Which left 15 minutes before the train was scheduled to leave. Whose genius idea was that!!! So I ended up buying a coach ticket all the way to Gothenburg. I never did get a refund for my not-a-train ticket....
    Scandinavian train service..... must do better☹️

    Once motion sickness sets in, hardly anything helps. If you know you're susceptible to motion sickness, you better take your precautions before setting out on your journey. Diphenhydramine is great, even if it makes you tired. I highly recommend it. Anything is better than being nauseated for hours on end!

    I live in Malmö, go to Copenhagen often, travel by train in southern Sweden, rarely have any problems. Most cancelations, annoying as they may be, have a valid reason behind it. Good advice for long distance trains, pay extra for the insurance/free reschedule.
    Copenhagen's Øresunds trains go from Helsingør (Hamlet is set there!) to Helsingborg. They don't go straight to Stockholm. Just some basic research before purchasing could've prevented some of your problems.

    Hi, you know what? You should make formal complain to the railway company for overbooking. There is a EU law against overbooking and it should apply here (especially as you paid for first class). You should get your money refunded and compensation too. Check the railway company’s website for more information. You could even make a vlog about it...

    So many Swedes in the comments complaining about train travel, its quite shocking. I'm a new Swedish citizen, also British. Trains in Sweden are good, and would not avoid them. Can be great value too if you book ahead. Improvements to be made, yes, but I find public transport in Sweden to be some of the best in the world. Remember Sweden is a very big landmass, so the coverage of public transport across the country is amazing conaidering that. I concur though that the Stockholm-Malmö line is sick enducing. Stockholm just hosted the world transport summit!
    The idea of flying being essential between Stockholm and Malmö is ludicrous

    Wow. Had this issue from Copenhagen to Stockholm last summer (August 2018)
    had to keep moving forward on different sections of the line to get there. Like going from Central Copenhagen to Copenhagen Airport and then over to Malmo. Hopefully they gave you some money back.

    There might be some kind of EU compensation that you could get like they do with airlines.

    • @annenielsen3346
      @annenielsen3346 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are EU rules for trains, but the Swedish rules are actually a bit more generous that those. They can apply for compensation here: www.sj.se/en/compensation-rights.html

    I hate that feeling of throwing up. First trip to London, plane landing made me nauseous. Felt that way in the 1 hour train ride to East London. Got into a taxi and met my buddy's fiance and uh... let's just say "Ralph".

      Same as in Sweden probably, the funding for maintenance has been a joke for decades and then privatizing the work to scammers. Then buying garbage trains from Italy, winter tested in Marseilles.

    It always annoys me here in the UK train tickets are so expensive, but 99% of the time you end up with standing room only (and don't get me started with cancelled trains). Staying positive is the best way to cope with a crappy travel day, s**t happens and you just have to work it out the best way you can :-)

  • @carpetclimber4027
    @carpetclimber4027 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is normal in Sweden and Denmark now. It's abnormal when something does work, especially during winter regarding trains. Post service is a joke (thanks Denmark!), police and justice system is collapsing, underdimensioned healthcare and pretty much everything.

    The Swedish train system is notorious in Sweden for being completely unreliable. In the summer time (the time of most tourists) the rails get too hot for the trains to safely travel on and in the winter there is too much snow or ice. As you experienced, trains get cancelled without notice or explanation. As for first class. Forget it. Sweden is the land of the “classless society” - equality for all (to equally suffer, if you ask me). A first class ticket means exactly nothing. Best suggestion: make a seat reservation! I have lived in Sweden for nearly 25 years and I make it a point to never take a train. Better suggestion: rent a car.
