Another thing you might encounter is at The Central Station (Centralstationen), a man will be very eager to get someone to pay for food for their child, saying they are very poor. They might even grab you if you don't comply and be VERY demanding the second you stop and talk to them. Just walk away if they ever try to talk to you
Also, if you're purchasing something from a grocery store, someone might come up to you and ask for you to buy him nappies and other expensive baby related items. They'll ask for the receipt, which they'll use to return the item for money.

The very island the museum is located on is called djurgården. I highly recommend going for a walk around it during the summer. The view is incredible. You could also leave down town area, some nice spots in the suburbs. Enjoy 😉

I’ve been personally to Stockholm many times throughout the past 20 years and never come across with scams, but like most cities in Europe, you should use your common sense. One thing I like to make a shout out, is to watch out for pickpockets at Central Station at all times. In general, it is a safe place to visit compared to Rome.
@@ThreeStarVagabond Was even close getting ripped off by the taxis, that can guarantee you getting a sticker shock. Old Town is lovely, but the restaurants is overpriced and doesn’t match up the quality. If you want quality for a good price, go to Stadmissionen at Stortorget for reasonable prices and great food!
Another great tip if you want a nice boat ride for cheap during the summer is to take the commuter boats. Look for boats with the SL logo. You can use normal SL tickets to ride those. I sometimes take them if I'm going to the city center and Djurgården when I'm not in a hurry.

Good summary. We bought a weekly travel ticket which allows unlimited use of tube local trains buses and some ferries. The ferry is a great experience. The Arlander express if booked on line is comparable with uk travel costs and offers a very fast link of 18mins from the airport to the centre. Old town is a nice easy place to visit. Exchange rate might sometimes be favourable so shopping not horrendous and there are lots of great shops. City is relatively small and local travel services give very frequent and reliable connections.

Hmm... Housing can be difficult in town, and it depends if you're looking to rent or buy. But I hear good things about living in Älvsjö for example, and Sollentuna. Skärmarbrink and Blåsut are also popular. Järfälla is also nice, and a bit closer to town you find Sundbyberg and Solna. But all in all, I think most places are nice. Just avoid certain areas like Skärholmen/Vårby/Fittja, and Rinkeby/Tensta, and Husby/Kista. You want to skip Hallonbergen as well I think.
@percapita1239 That's fair enough! Anywhere in the city is probably pretty loud and could be rowdy on a weekend. Like all over Söder, around St Eriksplan and Odenplan and Fridhemsplan etc. But I think that most people (who want to live in the city) still accept that. I'd say that Stadshagen is pretty central and pretty calm though, aside from Hornsbergs strand itself.
Best Sweden traveling tip: dont go to Stockholm. Go further up north or why not Gotland? An island that is still part stuck in the medieval ages with lots of history. This becomes most prominent during the annual festival called Medeltidsveckan or Medieval week.
I agree with pretty much all of that but not "don't go to Stockholm" because there are fun stuff to do in Stockholm. I'm from Nyköping (100km south of Stockholm) and sometimes i take the train with some friends over the day to just go to some bars/resaturants and have a nice time and maybe talk to random people. The price for taking the train to Stockholm and back home is around 300-350 Swedish kronor. Not that much for 200km 😉
Stockholm takes longer time to get to. So a lot of people get to Gothenburg instead. I’ve been there. It’s always kinda like Stockholm. But the buildings look much more different.
Great insight! I think you could, however, dive a bit deeper into the red signals concerning pick-pocketing, which might otherwise catch people off-guard. I am thinking about distractions such as smearing ketchup on the potential victim and "helping" to clean up, or asking for directions while concealing greedy hands with a map or leaflet. Also we have the people who impersonate police officers and who request to check your wallet. That should never happen unless you are already under arrest. Ask them to identify themselves. Preferably in Swedish if you can, as they typically don't speak Swedish and their game is destroyed when they can't respond. That is a general rule wherever you go in the world, I guess, try to act as a local if you can and they will stay away from you.
I had an opportunity to live shortly in Stockholm in 2012 - one of the best experiences I had. Thankfully company I worked for managed the housing but the rent was nearly equal to wage, lol. And I remember those guys plaing this game "find a ball" on a corners, I was wondering why police wouldn't arrest them for fooling people.
Too bad about the rent costs! It really is expensive in Stockholm.. But happy that you had a good experience here, despite those scammers. Haven't seen many of them this year so maybe the police managed to do something about them.
Have also visited Stockholm many times and always enjoyed my time there. Another scam I have seen (though not in Stockholm, but elsewhere in Europe) consists of a random person approaching you on the street, usually in a busy or touristy area, being very friendly, and after a few moments trying to give you a small token of their affection, like a cloth or string bracelet, attempting to place it on your arm. Of course if you accept this, the artist will soon start to ask for some money for coffee or something, and if you refuse they become loud and overbearing because, after all, they just presented you with a "free gift" and you should reciprocate with some money. LOL. Best to refuse any and all such "free gifts".
Yeah, I've seen many of those abroad! I always refuse...but it would be fun to play stupid and just accept everything sometime. "Oh, sorry - I don't want to give you anything in return. But thanks for the gift!"
If you want to help these “beggars” what you can do is buy them food. Never ever give them money. I’ve seen many times young men on bikes come and collect the cash. While there are real beggars in Stockholm (but it is very rare in part because citizens can’t really become homeless normally since you will be provided shelter and food and such by the state if you’re in the need) the vast majority, especially the very performative ones sitting and “praying” or (and I’m sorry to stereotype but it seems accurate) the Roma beggars are always involved in organized crime.
Wow! As a Brit, who lived in Sweden from the mid 70s to the early 80s it's a shock to see people begging on Drottninggatan. I don't think during my time there there was even one person who was homeless. Except one old lady who was a little crazy and lived on the street despite having her own flat. The police would pick her up and take her home every now and then. Gamla Stan was never that bad either and had some extremely good restaurants - Fem Små Hus being one I went to a few times. T-Centralen could be dodgy, and the only taxis to be careful of were the so-called black cabs, which were illegal, but generally way cheaper than the licensed ones except maybe to out-of-towners and tourists, of which there were few. So few that in summer the city almost closed down. For better or worse, everywhere changes with time. Maybe I'll get a chance to visit Stockholm before the Grim Reaper gets me, just to see how much my favourite city has changed. Great vlog BTW.
Stockholm really has changed... I grew up here in the 80s, and then moved away. When I returned I noticed the differences from what I remembered - people begging on the streets for one thing, and homeless people in general. But everything changes. Sweden isn't the same country it was, for good and for bad. There's still plenty of good here, but no place is ideal. Still well worth a visit! Oh and thank you!
The restaurant scam is also prevalent in other countries. I've seen this in Dubai & Toronto. The best clue is if the high priced restaurant is empty, it's a good sign it's not popular. And the dish images look typically exaggerated.
On Halloween, Vagabond wanted to transform himself into the Cultist Vagabond. However, Stockholm's windy soul did not allow him to complete the transformation. You forgot to mention those idiots at the royal palace trying to make you sign a petition or some sort of survey. First rule of thumb: NEVER sign anything some random guy ask you to sign, especially if you don't understand what you are signing. A lot of times these petitions are in swedish and as a native swede, it's really hard sometimes to understand what you are signing, never mind the tourists who may speak and read little to no swedish. JUST DON'T DO IT!
in Stocholm Sweden most if not all taxis are to expensive, even for us that live their. Better to use "uber or bolt" its sometimes up to 50-70% off then the same ride with taxi.
Funny that Gröna Lund seems like a scam to some people. Their tickets are more affortable than amusement parks in Finland, especially off season. Of course then you also have to pay for the travel and a hotel, but if you are travelling there anyways you might get a good deal and have an amazing day
That's fair enough! At least there was something new then... I think they're getting better at removing scammy taxis at the airport though - last time I was there it seemed like it was mostly reasonable prices.
I personally know several people who have been robbed by these "beggars" in Stockholm or Uppsala. They opened their wallet to give a small bill, and later find that all bills were gone, or were pickpocketed right afterwards. Taking out your wallet in these situations is asking to be robbed.
i work in a pub in sweden and the booze is seriously over priced, i would recommend people going to the Systembolaget where its a hell of a lot cheaper, and avoid stockholm with it being a tourist trap and keep an eye out for drug dealers, sweden is rife with them.
Good advice, all of that! I admit that I enjoy a beer or two in the sun despite the horrendous price, but I often go for a combination of a few beers at home, and a few out at the pub.
You know I spent 2 nights in Stockholm 6th November to 7th November in 2015 before proceeding to Helsinborg . I am an Indian and as you may know we Indians love to talk while most Europeans don't and the same goes for Swedes as well. But I learned this soon as my wife who was working with IKEA on deputation told me to cut down my talking by at least 95 % and then thinks will be fine . I did so and everything was great until one morning when I was going to the local grocery store a beautiful Swede lady met me and asked me where I was from and so we spoke for more than an hour abd all the while we spoke I was wondering to stop our conversation and move on but she kept talking . We even e changed cigarettes ; she gave me her Marlboro and I gave her my Indian Gold Flake . She initially thought I was a migrant from Iraq or someplace like that as I look like one. I told her I am from India and was on an European holiday for 45 days and this really put her at ease and got her talking to me for so long. . So I must say Swedes do talk when the occasion arises.
That's very true! There are always exceptions to every rule, and there can be very extroverted Swedes, as well as very introverted. I think it's just more statistically probably that you'll meet people who don't want to talk, than people like her :)

Pay attention to your belongings, do not leave them on the table. One hotspot for thieves is Vette-Katten. They'll enter the cafe with papers, block the view of your belongings with their paper and take your stuff while you're too busy reading.
Yes, avoid people who wants you to sign some petion or whatever. Just shake your head and ask them to leave you alone. Don't put your phone or wallet on the table or tray in any café.
Do not use taxis in Sweden, they often have busses going to and from the airport. They won't charge as much and are comfortable and fast. Definitely do not give money to beggars, they can go to the local charity or the church in Sweden has a lot of places to get some food and help. There has been at least one conviction of organized crime using a person to beg. Also you don't really need to use ATMs, it's ok to pay with a card almost everywhere. Last but not least, don't tip even when pressured! Tips are included and anyone who says differently either works in a restaurant, hotel or is lying. Cheers! 😊
If you’re a tourist and have taxi apps like Uber or Bolt. Just use them instead. You know the price up front and you already have the app! Regular companies like th mentioned ones will always be more expensive to or from the airport.

Yes it is. Outside of Arlanda you will find several lanes of taxi cars parked in a queue, waiting to pick up passangers. Bolt/Uber also have a lane of their own there.
I’d add a new scam I noticed in another city in Sweden - adds printed on A4 paper and with well known international org logos, asking to scan QR code for money transfer or transfer using swish (local mobile pat solution) to support a certain good cause. People were transfereing mobey to who knows whom, not to mention that scanning unknown QR codes can give scammers access to your device and data…
Oh damn! That's a good one. Or well, a really bad one rather. I haven't seen that one yet - I skip all the QR codes normally, but now I need to check it out.
I will always help beggars, regardless of their intention. It is up to them what they use the money for, when one is generous we shouldn't worry about where it ends but our action itself, our intention.
It's a very kind way of thinking about it. Some people give food and stuff like that instead of money, so that they can help without helping with organized begging as well.
That's actually a really good question.. Cheap is pretty hard to find, but at least more authentic places can be found e.g on Södermalm (the island south of Old Town) and I believe Drottninggatan as well (basically towards Haymarket, in the opposite direction of Old Town).
You don't need to be intelligent, hardworking and talented to become successful and rich in Stockholm all you need is the right connections and a privileged background. This perpetuates a sense of entitlement among the wealthy, creating an environment where meritocracy takes a backseat to nepotism and favoritism. The lack of equal opportunities and social mobility can be disheartening for those who don't come from affluent backgrounds, further widening the gap between the haves and have-nots in Stockholm.
If you have connections and a privileged background you will be rich and successful ANYWHERE. People absolutely can get a step up in Stockholm just by merit alone.

Its a very bad idea to start a business in Stockholm since its very expensive and the majority of people are stingy and classist. Born in Chile but came to Sweden in 89 and i agree with the scams you mention, but the biggest scams here in 2023 is the TAXES and Inflation, we are paying to bloody much tax and working to horrible salarys.
In Sweden, there are very few people that are actually homeless. Because in Sweden we have a system that provides shelter, food, and a monthly income so that people can live without having a job. Most people can live without begging because they get a monthly income from the Swedish government, but, some people do it to get a few extra Swedish crowns. This is true because this is one of the reasons why swedes pay a lot of taxes. For example, in Södertälje some people pay 33% of their monthly salary to the Swedish government.

Over 33000 officially homeless people in Sweden, probably under rapported. Not sure I would call that very few. But it depend on the perspective I guess.

Like I Said before, if you do not have your own home you Will live in a place that is funded by the government. In that place you Will get to live. That is one of the reasons to why we pay alot of tax. So that the government can be Able to fund shelter for the ones in need. So the reported people that are "homeless" do probably not own their own home. But, they do get the chance to have a roof over their head everyday.
When it comes to beggers, I will give some swedish advice and say you shouldn't give actual money. Instead you should use that money to buy some food or other product and give that to them. It minimizes the risk.

Sometimes now they will ask me to buy food, which I can't really afford anymore. But either way the important thing to remember here is that if they get mad at you for it, they're up to no good. Many beggers are employed by crimminals and it's hard to tell exactly who is. But if they get mad, don't bother.

Edinburgh Taxi driver here... Licensed Taxi's have a meter like Stockholm. The vast majority of drivers are doing a fair job. Only a tiny minority are cheating you. I refute taxi drivers are scammers. Utter pish. Your Flight/Hotel/Uber is all a scam...raising prices and taking advantage of you. That's what you need to look at.
I'm booking a hotel just a short walk away from the Stockholm Centralstation, just to spare the expense of a taxi. I'll get food from the grocery store. If anyone I don't know, tries to approach me with a bullshit story I'll keep walking.

It is very likely that the person begging on the street is a victim of human trafficking. Be a good person and don't give money. If you feel that you have to give just by some food and hand it over.
När du säger att det är dyrt att äta i Gamla stan, så måste du också tänka på vad dessa ställen antagligen betalar i hyra osv. Det är väldigt lätt för turister att se priser och avstå..
Håller med till en viss del, men problemet jag har är att vissa ställen serverar rätt dålig mat också. Jag har blivit missnöjd med mycket runt Stora Nygatan osv. Det är kombinationen av höga priser och bristande kvalitet som gör det.
@@ThreeStarVagabond har också sett att ställen som har över lag högt pris men några mer prisvärda erbjudanden på en egen skylt bara på svenska. Men ja, för bättre mat är Vasastan ett bra alternativ, där finns mycket att välja på. Är det upplevelsen man är ute efter (men också god mat) är ju matsalarna på Storskär och Norrskär att rekommendera, glida fram genom skärgården medan man njuter en trerätters...

In San Francisco the taxis have meters and are strictly regulated by the city. If a passenger feels he has been cheated he can demand that the taxi driver take him to the nearest police station, or he can simply take down the driver's photo I.D. number and turn it in. In Sweden, I would guess that most of the dishonest taxi drivers are non-Swedes.
The thing is that even the scammy taxis are regulated in Sweden, but the Swedish regulations just say that you have to show the cost at the side of the car window. As long as they do that, they can charge whatever they want. However, things have been getting better in the last years.
@@ThreeStarVagabond - That's piss poor protection for those folks who choose to use taxis. In San Francisco the taxi meters are checked by the city and drivers are required to start their meters when passengers get into their taxis.
Nice video! However, I think you could have explained the taxi price stickers better. It's quite easy. For a normal taxi for four passengers there is one number that tells how much a ride that lasts fifteen minutes and 10 kilometers will cost at the most expensive hours. I'm not sure what the figure for the three companies you mentioned are right now, but I guess they are around 350 crowns. If people know that, and they see a taxi with a much higher price, that's the time to move away. Easy!
Very good tip! But I think the problem is if you just see the sticker with no context. If you know the 350-ish crowns base value, then it's easy to compare - but if you only see a sticker it's hard to say whether or not it's a good price. I always forget what a decent price is myself!
I am also torn with the beggars. I feel they are organised. But I still feel bad for them especially the one I spoke with around SSE. they came from the middle east and comes here for a better life but ended up in the streets of Stockholm. :(
They should integrate better and try to get a job. They do the same thing in Italy, and France, Germany etc. I’ve met people living in Sweden for 6 years and they refuse to even speak basic Swedish. I could care less about them.
every big city is the same , lot of begers , expensive restaurant in historic center , crapy expensive tourist souvenir shop , well the take a photo of me is new , wee have in my city some afrikan people that put a bracelet in you hand telling you is gift and then ask you money for it , well taxi are always a scam from airport or bus train stations , since they charge extra for be in the station , and most of the time airports and station are far away from center city some time 10-20km , better of taking metro or city bus to go in center and after take a taxi ,

Scammare undviker ju helst att scamma folk som har tid och kunskap att polisanmäla och liknande. (Undantaget är väl taxi som ju är helt laglig scam, folk från mindre orter där det bara finns det lokala taxibolaget har nog fortfarande inte koll på jämförpris och sånt). Bor själv i Skåne och är man i Malmö är det nästan lite roande att studera den stora spridningen i pris mellan olika bilar.

Another thing you might encounter is at The Central Station (Centralstationen), a man will be very eager to get someone to pay for food for their child, saying they are very poor. They might even grab you if you don't comply and be VERY demanding the second you stop and talk to them. Just walk away if they ever try to talk to you

The very island the museum is located on is called djurgården. I highly recommend going for a walk around it during the summer. The view is incredible.

I’ve been personally to Stockholm many times throughout the past 20 years and never come across with scams, but like most cities in Europe, you should use your common sense. One thing I like to make a shout out, is to watch out for pickpockets at Central Station at all times. In general, it is a safe place to visit compared to Rome.
Yep I pretty much agree. About the pickpockets too! Only place I've ever been pickpocketed was close to the central station in Stockholm.
@@ThreeStarVagabond Was even close getting ripped off by the taxis, that can guarantee you getting a sticker shock. Old Town is lovely, but the restaurants is overpriced and doesn’t match up the quality. If you want quality for a good price, go to Stadmissionen at Stortorget for reasonable prices and great food!
Another great tip if you want a nice boat ride for cheap during the summer is to take the commuter boats. Look for boats with the SL logo. You can use normal SL tickets to ride those. I sometimes take them if I'm going to the city center and Djurgården when I'm not in a hurry.

Two of the best 'real' bars in Stockholm are in Gamla Stan and of course both are Irish pubs. Wirstroms and the Liffey - both on the same street.

Good summary. We bought a weekly travel ticket which allows unlimited use of tube local trains buses and some ferries. The ferry is a great experience. The Arlander express if booked on line is comparable with uk travel costs and offers a very fast link of 18mins from the airport to the centre. Old town is a nice easy place to visit. Exchange rate might sometimes be favourable so shopping not horrendous and there are lots of great shops. City is relatively small and local travel services give very frequent and reliable connections.

thank you for all your videos. In a couple of months me and my family might relocate to Stockholm and the housing situation is something that really worries me. do you know about any neighborhood in the surroundings that might be more accesible and family friendly?
Hmm... Housing can be difficult in town, and it depends if you're looking to rent or buy. But I hear good things about living in Älvsjö for example, and Sollentuna. Skärmarbrink and Blåsut are also popular. Järfälla is also nice, and a bit closer to town you find Sundbyberg and Solna.
But all in all, I think most places are nice. Just avoid certain areas like Skärholmen/Vårby/Fittja, and Rinkeby/Tensta, and Husby/Kista. You want to skip Hallonbergen as well I think.

@percapita1239 That's fair enough! Anywhere in the city is probably pretty loud and could be rowdy on a weekend. Like all over Söder, around St Eriksplan and Odenplan and Fridhemsplan etc. But I think that most people (who want to live in the city) still accept that. I'd say that Stadshagen is pretty central and pretty calm though, aside from Hornsbergs strand itself.

Best Sweden traveling tip: dont go to Stockholm. Go further up north or why not Gotland? An island that is still part stuck in the medieval ages with lots of history. This becomes most prominent during the annual festival called Medeltidsveckan or Medieval week.
Good tips! It takes a long time to travel up north but sleeper trains are available. And Gotland is absolutely gorgeous (in summer at least)!
I agree with pretty much all of that but not "don't go to Stockholm" because there are fun stuff to do in Stockholm. I'm from Nyköping (100km south of Stockholm) and sometimes i take the train with some friends over the day to just go to some bars/resaturants and have a nice time and maybe talk to random people. The price for taking the train to Stockholm and back home is around 300-350 Swedish kronor. Not that much for 200km 😉
I would say spend 1 or 2 days maybe in stockholm and then travel somewhere else for... depending on how long your week is
Stockholm takes longer time to get to. So a lot of people get to Gothenburg instead. I’ve been there. It’s always kinda like Stockholm. But the buildings look much more different.

Great insight! I think you could, however, dive a bit deeper into the red signals concerning pick-pocketing, which might otherwise catch people off-guard. I am thinking about distractions such as smearing ketchup on the potential victim and "helping" to clean up, or asking for directions while concealing greedy hands with a map or leaflet.
Also we have the people who impersonate police officers and who request to check your wallet. That should never happen unless you are already under arrest. Ask them to identify themselves. Preferably in Swedish if you can, as they typically don't speak Swedish and their game is destroyed when they can't respond. That is a general rule wherever you go in the world, I guess, try to act as a local if you can and they will stay away from you.

I had an opportunity to live shortly in Stockholm in 2012 - one of the best experiences I had. Thankfully company I worked for managed the housing but the rent was nearly equal to wage, lol. And I remember those guys plaing this game "find a ball" on a corners, I was wondering why police wouldn't arrest them for fooling people.
Too bad about the rent costs! It really is expensive in Stockholm.. But happy that you had a good experience here, despite those scammers. Haven't seen many of them this year so maybe the police managed to do something about them.
I love Gamla Stan, so scenic, a time capsule of old Sweden.
Have also visited Stockholm many times and always enjoyed my time there. Another scam I have seen (though not in Stockholm, but elsewhere in Europe) consists of a random person approaching you on the street, usually in a busy or touristy area, being very friendly, and after a few moments trying to give you a small token of their affection, like a cloth or string bracelet, attempting to place it on your arm. Of course if you accept this, the artist will soon start to ask for some money for coffee or something, and if you refuse they become loud and overbearing because, after all, they just presented you with a "free gift" and you should reciprocate with some money. LOL. Best to refuse any and all such "free gifts".
Yeah, I've seen many of those abroad! I always refuse...but it would be fun to play stupid and just accept everything sometime. "Oh, sorry - I don't want to give you anything in return. But thanks for the gift!"
If you want to help these “beggars” what you can do is buy them food. Never ever give them money. I’ve seen many times young men on bikes come and collect the cash. While there are real beggars in Stockholm (but it is very rare in part because citizens can’t really become homeless normally since you will be provided shelter and food and such by the state if you’re in the need) the vast majority, especially the very performative ones sitting and “praying” or (and I’m sorry to stereotype but it seems accurate) the Roma beggars are always involved in organized crime.

Wow! As a Brit, who lived in Sweden from the mid 70s to the early 80s it's a shock to see people begging on Drottninggatan. I don't think during my time there there was even one person who was homeless. Except one old lady who was a little crazy and lived on the street despite having her own flat. The police would pick her up and take her home every now and then. Gamla Stan was never that bad either and had some extremely good restaurants - Fem Små Hus being one I went to a few times. T-Centralen could be dodgy, and the only taxis to be careful of were the so-called black cabs, which were illegal, but generally way cheaper than the licensed ones except maybe to out-of-towners and tourists, of which there were few. So few that in summer the city almost closed down.
For better or worse, everywhere changes with time. Maybe I'll get a chance to visit Stockholm before the Grim Reaper gets me, just to see how much my favourite city has changed.

Stockholm really has changed... I grew up here in the 80s, and then moved away. When I returned I noticed the differences from what I remembered - people begging on the streets for one thing, and homeless people in general. But everything changes. Sweden isn't the same country it was, for good and for bad. There's still plenty of good here, but no place is ideal. Still well worth a visit!

The restaurant scam is also prevalent in other countries. I've seen this in Dubai & Toronto. The best clue is if the high priced restaurant is empty, it's a good sign it's not popular. And the dish images look typically exaggerated.

So we can understand Stockholm has a protective soul for its people. By the joke, what a lovely winter sun during the video. The atmospheric pleasure has to be great at that moment. You forgot to mention those idiots at the royal palace trying to make you sign a petition or some sort of survey.
First rule of thumb: NEVER sign anything some random guy ask you to sign, especially if you don't understand what you are signing.
A lot of times these petitions are in swedish and as a native swede, it's really hard sometimes to understand what you are signing, never mind the tourists who may speak and read little to no swedish.

in Stocholm Sweden most if not all taxis are to expensive, even for us that live their. Better to use "uber or bolt" its sometimes up to 50-70% off then the same ride with taxi.

Funny that Gröna Lund seems like a scam to some people. Their tickets are more affortable than amusement parks in Finland, especially off season. Of course then you also have to pay for the travel and a hotel, but if you are travelling there anyways you might get a good deal and have an amazing day

That's fair enough! At least there was something new then... I think they're getting better at removing scammy taxis at the airport though - last time I was there it seemed like it was mostly reasonable prices.
I personally know several people who have been robbed by these "beggars" in Stockholm or Uppsala. They opened their wallet to give a small bill, and later find that all bills were gone, or were pickpocketed right afterwards. Taking out your wallet in these situations is asking to be robbed.
Bastards! Not saying that all of them are bad people - but the ones you mention are definitely awful...

i work in a pub in sweden and the booze is seriously over priced, i would recommend people going to the Systembolaget where its a hell of a lot cheaper, and avoid stockholm with it being a tourist trap and keep an eye out for drug dealers, sweden is rife with them.

You know I spent 2 nights in Stockholm 6th November to 7th November in 2015 before proceeding to Helsinborg . I am an Indian and as you may know we Indians love to talk while most Europeans don't and the same goes for Swedes as well. But I learned this soon as my wife who was working with IKEA on deputation told me to cut down my talking by at least 95 % and then thinks will be fine . I did so and everything was great until one morning when I was going to the local grocery store a beautiful Swede lady met me and asked me where I was from and so we spoke for more than an hour abd all the while we spoke I was wondering to stop our conversation and move on but she kept talking . We even e changed cigarettes ; she gave me her Marlboro and I gave her my Indian Gold Flake . She initially thought I was a migrant from Iraq or someplace like that as I look like one. I told her I am from India and was on an European holiday for 45 days and this really put her at ease and got her talking to me for so long. . So I must say Swedes do talk when the occasion arises.
That's very true! There are always exceptions to every rule, and there can be very extroverted Swedes, as well as very introverted. I think it's just more statistically probably that you'll meet people who don't want to talk, than people like her :)

Pay attention to your belongings, do not leave them on the table. One hotspot for thieves is Vette-Katten. They'll enter the cafe with papers, block the view of your belongings with their paper and take your stuff while you're too busy reading.

Do not use taxis in Sweden, they often have busses going to and from the airport. They won't charge as much and are comfortable and fast. Definitely do not give money to beggars, they can go to the local charity or the church in Sweden has a lot of places to get some food and help. There has been at least one conviction of organized crime using a person to beg. Also you don't really need to use ATMs, it's ok to pay with a card almost everywhere. Last but not least, don't tip even when pressured! Tips are included and anyone who says differently either works in a restaurant, hotel or is lying. Cheers! 😊
If you’re a tourist and have taxi apps like Uber or Bolt. Just use them instead. You know the price up front and you already have the app! Regular companies like th mentioned ones will always be more expensive to or from the airport.
The problem is getting an Uber or Bolt at the airport. It works great when traveling inside the city, though.

Yes it is. Outside of Arlanda you will find several lanes of taxi cars parked in a queue, waiting to pick up passangers. Bolt/Uber also have a lane of their own there.

I’d add a new scam I noticed in another city in Sweden - adds printed on A4 paper and with well known international org logos, asking to scan QR code for money transfer or transfer using swish (local mobile pat solution) to support a certain good cause. People were transfereing mobey to who knows whom, not to mention that scanning unknown QR codes can give scammers access to your device and data…
Oh damn! That's a good one. Or well, a really bad one rather. I haven't seen that one yet - I skip all the QR codes normally, but now I need to check it out.

I will always help beggars, regardless of their intention. It is up to them what they use the money for, when one is generous we shouldn't worry about where it ends but our action itself, our intention.

That's actually a really good question.. Cheap is pretty hard to find, but at least more authentic places can be found e.g on Södermalm (the island south of Old Town) and I believe Drottninggatan as well (basically towards Haymarket, in the opposite direction of Old Town).
You can argue if the taxi meter is ticking to fast.....they can manipulate it....
You don't need to be intelligent, hardworking and talented to become successful and rich in Stockholm all you need is the right connections and a privileged background. It doesnt have modern architecture its very old fashion. Its a city for upper class folks. If your a person who want to become rich or come from low socioeconomic background stockholm is the wrong city for you. Its a very bad idea to start a business in Stockholm since its very expensive and the majority of people are stingy and classist. Born in Chile but came to Sweden in 89 and i agree with the scams you mention, but the biggest scams here in 2023 is the TAXES and Inflation, we are paying to bloody much tax and working to horrible salarys.

In Sweden, there are very few people that are actually homeless. Because in Sweden we have a system that provides shelter, food, and a monthly income so that people can live without having a job. Most people can live without begging because they get a monthly income from the Swedish government, but, some people do it to get a few extra Swedish crowns. This is true because this is one of the reasons why swedes pay a lot of taxes. For example, in Södertälje some people pay 33% of their monthly salary to the Swedish government.

Over 33000 officially homeless people in Sweden, probably under rapported. Not sure I would call that very few. But it depend on the perspective I guess.

Like I Said before, if you do not have your own home you Will live in a place that is funded by the government. In that place you Will get to live. That is one of the reasons to why we pay alot of tax. So that the government can be Able to fund shelter for the ones in need. So the reported people that are "homeless" do probably not own their own home. But, they do get the chance to have a roof over their head everyday.

@@Indianloppan No one's gotten mad at me for it. I used to do it sometimes when I was younger, no one got mad then, at least. Sometimes now they will ask me to buy food, which I can't really afford anymore.
But either way the important thing to remember here is that if they get mad at you for it, they're up to no good. Many beggers are employed by crimminals and it's hard to tell exactly who is. But if they get mad, don't bother.

Edinburgh Taxi driver here... Licensed Taxi's have a meter like Stockholm. The vast majority of drivers are doing a fair job. Only a tiny minority are cheating you. I refute taxi drivers are scammers. Utter pish. Your Flight/Hotel/Uber is all a scam...raising prices and taking advantage of you. That's what you need to look at.
I'm booking a hotel just a short walk away from the Stockholm Centralstation, just to spare the expense of a taxi. I'll get food from the grocery store. If anyone I don't know, tries to approach me with a bullshit story I'll keep walking.
Sounds like a great plan! Yeah, I'd avoid taxis overall if possible, since you can get just about everywhere by walking or taking public transport. Haha, and avoiding BS stories is always a good idea :D
I follow one rule wherever I go, if someone aproaches me I walk away.
That actually works pretty well most of the time. However, I have to say that I've been approached by random people abroad that simply were curious etc, so I try to keep a semi-open mind!

När du säger att det är dyrt att äta i Gamla stan, så måste du också tänka på vad dessa ställen antagligen betalar i hyra osv.
Det är väldigt lätt för turister att se priser och avstå..
Håller med till en viss del, men problemet jag har är att vissa ställen serverar rätt dålig mat också. Jag har blivit missnöjd med mycket runt Stora Nygatan osv. Det är kombinationen av höga priser och bristande kvalitet som gör det.
@@ThreeStarVagabond har också sett att ställen som har över lag högt pris men några mer prisvärda erbjudanden på en egen skylt bara på svenska.
Men ja, för bättre mat är Vasastan ett bra alternativ, där finns mycket att välja på. Är det upplevelsen man är ute efter (men också god mat) är ju matsalarna på Storskär och Norrskär att rekommendera, glida fram genom skärgården medan man njuter en trerätters...

In San Francisco the taxis have meters and are strictly regulated by the city. If a passenger feels he has been cheated he can demand that the taxi driver take him to the nearest police station, or he can simply take down the driver's photo I.D. number and turn it in. In Sweden, I would guess that most of the dishonest taxi drivers are non-Swedes.
The thing is that even the scammy taxis are regulated in Sweden, but the Swedish regulations just say that you have to show the cost at the side of the car window. As long as they do that, they can charge whatever they want. However, things have been getting better in the last years.
@@ThreeStarVagabond - That's piss poor protection for those folks who choose to use taxis. In San Francisco the taxi meters are checked by the city and drivers are required to start their meters when passengers get into their taxis.
Nice video! However, I think you could have explained the taxi price stickers better. It's quite easy. For a normal taxi for four passengers there is one number that tells how much a ride that lasts fifteen minutes and 10 kilometers will cost at the most expensive hours. I'm not sure what the figure for the three companies you mentioned are right now, but I guess they are around 350 crowns. If people know that, and they see a taxi with a much higher price, that's the time to move away. Easy!
Very good tip! But I think the problem is if you just see the sticker with no context. If you know the 350-ish crowns base value, then it's easy to compare - but if you only see a sticker it's hard to say whether or not it's a good price. I always forget what a decent price is myself!

Jag tycker inte det så vanligt med scamers i Stockholm, inte för att jag är i Stockholm så mycket. Man ska tänka sig för och ha en mage av is när man går runt Stockholm/London/New York eller vilken huvudstad som helst!

Tror nog mer att du som svensk är mindre utsatt för att du vet vad som är normalt och inte. Du är helt enkelt inte målgruppen. Scammare undviker ju helst att scamma folk som har tid och kunskap att polisanmäla och liknande. (Undantaget är väl taxi som ju är helt laglig scam, folk från mindre orter där det bara finns det lokala taxibolaget har nog fortfarande inte koll på jämförpris och sånt). Bor själv i Skåne och är man i Malmö är det nästan lite roande att studera den stora spridningen i pris mellan olika bilar.
