    Personally, I'm stoked you keep testing cameras. I could watch 1000s of peeps on here talk about gear, but it's when you find someone that you value or trust their opinions, that you'll listen. I've enjoyed your content across BMPCC, ZCAM, your photo work is amazing, film, C70 and now I look forward to the Komodo and what ever 2021 brings! Happy Holidays dude....keep the content coming!

    To your last point on client perception, I am currently thinking of upgrading my kit(basically starting fresh again) and that thought is currently one of if not my biggest battle mentally. For most budget jobs a mirrorless is more than sufficient, but a particular brand of camera especially semi high end types makes a difference on set even on smaller jobs. Visually from a clients perspective once they see you using a mirrorless, immediately that association has been made with a certain budget. Its not the right thought process and yes talent and quality does supersede all of that BUT that perception does exist and we should stop ignoring it.

    I wondered how that form factor would feel switching from the z cam. That was one of the main things that bugged me when I went back to SLR style from mine before the RED.
    I highly recommend getting the outrigger handle with it. Having the record button right by your thumb is totally worth $500 lol.
    For exposure, the stop lights make run and gun exposure so easy on the Komodo once you play with it a little.

    you have to ask yourself why you "really" want a Red, is it because the image is so much better or because you feel like you need a "status symbol" for other people... - Ive been making features and videos for over 15 years, once we get over 4k raw, 99.9% of people are not going to see the difference in quality - especially on 4k TVs and computer monitors....not to mention when you get into 6k and 8k it often looks so sharp and instantly "digital" looking....the Red also requires a lot of start up time, a lot of accessories, black shading, needs more light, runs hotter, etc etc... that said, I think both of those cameras can edit together just fine...also, why not just shoot your normal content in 24fps then shoot slow motion separately rather than changing the FPS so you can slow it down in post?

    Cameras are like paint brushes, sometimes that brush you chose are perfect for producing wide strokes on the canvas and another might produce nice fine lines for details . Ultimately, what I'm saying is, they should be used together to create that masterpiece - whether you use a Sony, Red or Panasonic. So yeah, I agree with you.

  • @jonathanl7883
    @jonathanl7883 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Totally cool if people want a Red Komodo, just wish people were more honest. It’s just cool to own a Red for $6000. That’s really the number one reason,but I think some people (not you) just don’t want to admit it. You can make great work and make great images with other cameras , but there is a prestige and auora to Red as a filmmaker, and that’s what draws you in really. As a one man band, and when shooting hours of footage over multiple days, the RED post workflow can get daunting quick. But for lots of other projects, those concerns are a non issue.

    Now this makes my decision harder 😅
    I'm sticking to to my beloved C100mkii until much deeper into 2021 lol.
    I'm between the c70 and Komodo myself. Feels strange that Red didn't intend the komodo for the consumer but for crash cams which is one thing that throws me off.
    The R5 I definitely want though.
    I'm hoping you keep the c70 around just to see more comparisons and final products from you using multiple cameras! Your Zcam work looks beautiful, it has made me want to grab one 🎥

      Hi ! I'm in the same situation with a beloved C100MkII and I'm currently testing the C70.... In my opinion, the footages are AWESOME but the built quality is really worse than the C100 Mark II.... or the C200...
      Canon made a huge mistake in my opinion: cutting back on build quality to bring the price down. I'm waiting to see in 2021 if the next C70s will have a more solid screen in particular ... or if the C90, which is to be announced in early 2021, will have better ergonomics because it will be more expensive.

    Appreciate the review videos and you sharing your experience, but it does get a little confusing when you come out with a glowing initial review of the C70 and then three weeks later post this. I think it would be more helpful if you took some time to really evaluate your experience before posting your conclusions so you don't have these big swings because people are using these videos to do research when weighing which camera to buy. But like I said, it's definitely interesting/helpful hearing your thoughts, so thanks for doing these.

      I disagree. I never said the camera was shit. I still love this camera and I’m bummed it’s not really for me, tho I think my issues with it are a bit niche. It’s still an amazing camera and I think majority of people would be happy with it. If you can go to my IG and watch my IGTV I think you’ll get an idea of what I’m talking about. But yes, I don’t take my time. Like I said, the camera is still amazing and has one of the best images I’ve used and it’s beyond convenient. It’s literally the perfect camera. My point is, I don’t discredit what I said before just because I tried another camera that better suits my shooting style.
