Its insane to me that he can be really good at combat and at the same time be as oblivious to UI and game mechanics as a 60 year old guy playing his first game ever.
i think hes smarter than he lets on.. he likes playing " im a idiot moron " personality, why? i have no idea why after years of it maybe he has become 1 with it.. then again i could be totally wrong and probably am.
The UI is hot garbage, sorry to say. Game is great and I have over 1000 hours. UI and navigating different options, compared to other PC titles, is just horrible. You get used to it but let's not pretend it's intuitive or good. It doesn't look good either, compared to the great graphics this game has that still hold up with HD textures. The UI looks dated, feels clunky and is overly big. Too many "confirms" too when you do something. There are way too many unnecessary menus or "turn to the next page" elements. For example, why in the world is Forge and Upgrade two different options for weapons? Why do I have to go to a completely different menu (that looks exactly the same) to upgrade the weapon I just created lol? So many things that could be streamlined for the better when it comes to giving the player options or presenting information. The game also does a poor job with other things too such as explaining effect of skills and terminology. I also can't skip cutscenes on PC, no idea if it's possible on console, but it should if not. It was developed for last gen consoles and it shows sadly. As for why he is oblivious to game mechanics it's because he's not paying attention when they are explained. That simple. A lot of thing are badly or not explained at all in world, but for example, being able to Crouch by pressing spacebar is something you learn by doing in the tutorial, which he didn't know at all how to do. Not blaming too much because it's hard to focus properly with thousands of people watching you and focusing on making the stream entertaining.
@@johnway8819 I do agree that the UI could be a lot better in some cases, but he makes it look soo much worse than it actually is, by intentionally ignoring tutorials, refusing to read any item description or actually looking at the menu instead of quickly rushing through it while complaining that he can't find things that are right in front of his face. Also doesn't help that the entire UI was designed for Controller and is not really well adapted for Keyboard. There are two issues coming together here, overly complex UI with a shit ton of things you can do and customize. + A player that refuses to learn or read anything in fron of him. Example... the scout flies are a very very easy concept even a 5 year old could understand....he refuses to understand it not because he couldn't understand it but because he doesn't want to understand it. He still has never used the slingshot, nor understand what slingshot amo is... That has nothing to do with UI and everything to do with him being stubborn and unwilling to do things the game didn't out right tell him to do. MH is designed for you to test things and figure some things out on your own, and he refuses to do that. He also intentionally ignores side quest...that would unlock tools, mechanics etc.
@@johnway8819 I mean...he still hasn't figured out that the big green blob bugs his palico keeps bringing to hem are a heal. He pays absolutely no attention to anything besides the monsters. Hell he spent the entirety of the new area without eating once. He keeps fighting on low stamina even though rations are free. There is so many things i could mention here that have nothing to do with UI being too hard to understand. He just doesn't pay attention at all.
Based off your first time playing MH and your first real hunt with the Great Jagras, I'm actually impressed on how well you did with attacking and spacing with the Great Sword. Well done!
He kept overcharge the true charge slash resulting not hitting with lvl 3 charge. Now he do well with beginner monster, he better learn lvl3 charge now
Honestly he's doing better than most who go into Monster Hunter completely blind. One of my friends didn't know you could sharpen weapons until high rank when they saw other people sharpening after each engagement. (how the hell they got to high rank without sharpening, i'll never know)
@@IEarlGrey In a way, yes... he wasn't bad just a very slow methodical type of hunter. I remember asking though if he ever noticed the damage numbers kept getting smaller as the fight continued and he was like... "oh i just thought they made it harder like the monster was constantly enraged and took less damage!"
@@vampuricknight1 I will never understand anyone who plays games for more than an hour and just doesn't ever wonder what significance the things on the UI actually have.
World has seen a resurgence of players, which is great, A lot of people are prepping for the release of WILDS and the hype is real among the community. There's a lot to do, especially just starting fresh. Glad you finally Experienced this masterpiece Zack, hopefully you try WILDS.
ya think i got like 2k hours.. games top tier.. best of the best.. ive beat every monster and every version of all monsters in the game.. and have been jonsing to play from the beginning all over again..
Man this game really had the best power progression I've ever felt in a game. I just remember hiding in the forest, terrified that Anjanath was gonna come fuck my shit up. Fast forward a few hundred hours later and you're doing full on anime shit against tempered god dragons and lightning unicorns. All that with my best friend too since it's all multiplayer. I think my first TH-cam video was beatin on a Rathian. This was my first Monster Hunter and I had a blast.
Loved seeing Asmon play Monster Hunter, as a fellow GS user I was quite impressed overall! Timing and combos come with game knowledge. Asmon has the heart and mentality already, with time and learning to incorporate jump attacks he's going to be incredible. Can't wait to see more!
The DLC for this game called IceBorne was scheduled to come out in the middle of the pandemic. A buddy of mine walked me through the base game a month before the DLC came out (stay at home mandate and we were both unemployed due to the pandemic as well) and it was super fun. Iceborne came around and we had two more people with us to play through the content with a full squad. Ended up with around 450 hours in the game and around 400 was probably with three other people. Some of the most fun I've ever had in a game ever, so cool that you're playing through it. Hopefully you have a squad with you and have just as much fun this game can be so great with other people.
This is nonsens to me, it is however filled to the rim with qol upgrades. Now MHrise for that matter is the easiest of the series imo.@@lucasvallet4487
@@benj4845 2 hours into the video and he still hasn't used defender gear yet lol, skipped ahead to 4h to check and nope, still no defender/guardian gear you goof
It's always good to experiment. Don't hesitate to craft from other crafting trees, armor or weapon types. This lets you know more about the mechanics while giving you the opportunity to adapt your playstyle. I always craft newly unlocked shit once I get the materials for it regardless of crafting tree, so I could try them out whenever I want. It's more like a "you won't know it until you try" situation, even if you found yourself a comfy playstyle. But it's absolutely amazing that you're able to make these monster limp from the first encounter. And the first-try rathian kill was chef's kiss. Players usually don't go for that kill early-game.
The reason he played this is because it's an action game. That's what he plays now. If it has good combat, he will likely try it. My taste and games has funnily enough been much of the same as well that's how I can identify it.
@@madtech5153I mean kinda? There aren't really any "dodge rolls" in MH (the only dodge-ish move you can rely on for i frames in MH is superman dive but that's impractical) and just like from games, sure you can use greatswords for slow attacks but you can also use dual blades if you wanna play at adhd anime action game speed. Really about the only thing similar about both games are that they're action games and incredibly difficult (at least the older ones). The utility items like paintballs and flash/smoke, the usage of traps and barrels, chasing injured monsters in their lair, weapon sharpness, weather drinks, breaking parts, etc, MH feels a lot more like a tactical action survival game meanwhile Dark Souls is just a straight action rpg (Sekiro and Bloodborne are a bit diff esp Sekiro)
this absolute mad lad took one look at Rathian with nothing but a g.jag gs and some bone armor and just went for it....and actually brought her down before stomping barroth into the mud as a brand new player to MH. that is both amazing and hilarious. Holy shit, great job!
Currently at 500 hours in this game, 1,5k hours in Rise, 400 hours in GU and I can’t get enough of this franchise and I’m literally counting the minutes until Wilds!
Gotta appreciate the game right away introducing the most important game mechanic: no fall damage. Followed immediately by the second most important mechanic: the handler being a useless pain who just causes you trouble.

one huge tip for every single new player to Monster hunter. DON"T look at the damage number or armor number of each weapon or armor. Try every single weapon in the training grounds and see what you love and specialize one or two weapons to start with. Same with armor skills are far more important with the status effect than that magical armor number.
Honestly asmons did so well than most youtuber who tries monhun for the first time, he actually take time understanding the game and that feels so good to watch

MHW is truly on another level as far as replayability and aging goes. Game still looks so good I bet people could mistake it for one that came out in the last year or two

Welcome to the monster hunter series Asmold! Sincerely hope it brings you hundreds if not thousands of hours of joy! My veteran advice is to try out different weapons to see which one suits your playstyle first. Each weapon is equally viable, and has their own feel. And remember you can always change up weapons! ♡ Sincerely; a toot toot horn main.
I mean , there Is a clear tier list . They are not equally as viable. They should have nerfed Ls and they should have given half armor value bor ranged weapons like the old time
The tier list is complete BS. All weapons are fully viable, pretty balanced and work in against any monster in any scenario. Tier lists are subjective.@@Andrea-dw1ps

Aside from a straight up mmo this is the first game I ever put 600+ hours into and it’ll always hold a place in my heart. Especially my first time doing a perfect nergigante fight with my hammer solo. (I know there’s way more difficult Shit it was just my first moment I felt proud)
Hey, relish that moment. Every veteran remembers moments of pride, funny moments or certain experiences. I remember back when I was a greenhorne and a Lance main at the first time I defeated a lagiacrus & hilariously mistook that kill as me not being a noob anymore. Lmao. Or the first time I hunted that blasted deviljho. Or those perfect dances with monsters. Or heck, when I had my first perfect hunt with nergi. Feels fantastic. I hope you earn many more memories like yours with perfectly defeated nergigante! 👍
soloed everything hammer ,but first try blind killing alpha-tempered namielle. espeically since her gama set was super fun on a duel blade. having max dodge, stamina and infinite attacks. my favorite build was my Support build. max healing, and buffs it could force noobs through some arch-tempered fights.
I'm at around 800 hours, I farmed everything and the last 200 hours or so I was just helping people with healing HH build and had a blast. I was thinking about jumping back after like 2 years when I saw on steamcharts how many people play MHW again but I kinda switched to ps5, don't want to sit at pc for hours after work, though at the same time I don't want to start again from scratch. I'll see how long it will take till I give in :D
MH has had the "fight, make cool stuff, fight, make cooler stuff" formula down pat for over 15 years. I don't know very many series quite like this one that have had quite a few entries that have all been bangers
Underrated? This sold Elden Ring type numbers. Literally the best selling Capcom game of all time. Monster Hunter isn't niche or underrated anymore, it's an industry titan now
Methodical gameplay doesn't equate to clunky gameplay. Sometimes games are better when you actually have to commit to your character swinging a giant sword...
So great to see new people play this game. Enjoy 😊 Edit: Be sure to check (and do) the limited bounties to get celestial wyverin prints. Those help with getting harder materials like gems and mantles in high and master rank. Happy Hunting
This game is a masterpiece. I dear you to finish it. You will love it. The combat feels clunky by design. When you get good, you have full control. Also the greatsword is the one that feels the most clunky. It takes alittle while to get into this game, but it's well worth it
I like to say the combat is designed to feel “deliberate.” It’s not meant to be like a God of War or Devil May Cry with instant animation cancels and you zipping around. Not that there is anything wrong with those games, they’re great games too, but what they’re doing and Monster Hunter is doing are completely different. In MH, each attack is meant to be a commitment so you really have to think about positioning and timing. I like to say, most action games try to make you feel like a god. Monster Hunter games want to make you feel like you’re fighting a god.
@@jacquesdube6294 I would say after you get all the Fatalis gear and all the Transmog, there's not much more to do. I played it for like 800 hours before I felt I was done
I'd go further and even say that it's not clunky, but rather accurate to your skill level. An unskilled fighter will make the wrong moves and misposition in real life, while a skilled person makes deliberate actions and has everything flow together. This is what Monster Hunter feels like - as you get better, your character's hunts reflect that kind of change.
Monster Hunter has one of the best gameplay loops in all of gaming. It's one of those 'just one more hunt' and then realising you just spent another 12 hours unable to put it down.
He was justifying his cart by saying he is a slow learner, but he is kinda cooking. The fact that he sheaths his greatsword to reposition is something that isn't intuitive but it is optimal. He also realized that on a stagger he had time for the true charged slash. Good stuff. Monster hunter has a ton of mechanics. And you learn them bit by bit to become an efficient hunter. Also, anjanath is a wall even when you meet him officially in the story, let alone as a second hunt lmao. I can see him liking this. It has that path of exile build stuff where you grind to get stronger.
Asmon has always been a quick learner when it comes to combat - it's just that doesn't really have the patience for the little stuff (weapon crafting, gathering/tracking mechanics, etc.) Not mandatory for the most part, but it does slow down his progress a tad lol
@@shutup1037 too be fair, the game does a piss poor job at explaining this. The one weakness of monster hunter games is that you always need zn outfit side tutorial to pick up weapond...
Dude, when he streamed this he had 44k viewers.... THATS NUMBER BREAKING!!!! ITS OVER 9000!!!! I hope this gets other streamers to play this game Also i loved his reaction to the palico 2:29 after he spent 10 minutes on his charecter
As a greatsword main, watching him play through world and Iceborne with greatsword makes me very proud of him even when there's struggles, he makes it work
I still remember when you saw the release trailer to this come and talked it down... I thought that was weird because this game fits well into alot of the core aspects of game design that you like. I'm happy to be watching you play this and hope you enjoy it. I have had alot of fun playing this with my friends.
Tbh trailers for MHW were kind of underwhelming. Idk if devs were trying to downplay the game in order to lure new players in, but it certainly didn't work on me. I only decided to buy it after watching the review by ShillUp. Watched trailers for older games later, and even though they were full CG, they were way more hype.
It took 2 years to basically "forse" him into playing souls. And he finally played i in 2018-19. It was far from MHW to be on his radar then. ANd now it toook 4 years to see him here, and im telling you it his perrfect game, but he doesent know it yet. This genre is why MMOS died. Like why suffer through boring non action combat and why see +100 idiots if they are have no relevance to you, if you can see 16 important people in this typo of lobbies (or up to 36 in like GTAO, RDO) and do quest with 3 of them at a time. You in your mmos still bitch about 20 ppl raids being too many anyway, but also have to deal with non action combat netcode made for +100 people. So having more dedicated lesser "lobbyed" ( i dont remember better word for it) games is where all of the mmo-coop online gamers at (warframe is also my pick).@@antares3030
Welcome to Monster Hunter! Figured since I missed live, I'd try and answer things you ask in video First off, Well played! Gameplay was masterfully done for someone brand new to the series. (Ignore any or all of this post, or read the sections you care about. Your learning at your pace which is best) Weapons: ALL are designed around both solo and group play. EVERY single weapon is capable of beating the game solo. However as you can guess, things like hunting horn (bagbipes) bocome stronger in groups because the buffs affecting more people. Each weapon suits a different playing styles, and later certain skills can make using that weapon suit you more. Higher Damage weapons are usually compensating for a slower playstyle. I.E: Greatsword is HIGH damage, but your gonna attack slower and less often. (High potential on a target not moving though. It'ss like a burst damage weapon) (a skill called quick sheathe speeds up how fast you put away a weapon for instance for weapons which have a slow sheathe animation, great for Switchaxe, but not needed on sword and shield. or Skills that increase I-frames on dodge, or a skill that makes the dodge go much further. Some weapons get blunt quickly and need sklls to speed up sharpening.) Weapon Damage: dont be fooled by the damage on each weapon. And the damage should only be compared to other weapons of the same type. Without going too far into detail, each weapon has different ways of doing damage. So dual blades do "low damage" but each attack hits like 2-6 times more than say hammer or greatsword. so just hitting 1 attack with hammer could do 30 damage, where 1 attack with Duel Blades will do 2-4 hits doing 8-13 each. It's known as Motion Value in the community. it's less about the damage numbers but rather which weapon your more effectively doing that damage. Damage means nothing if your dead. It's also how a weapon that deals low damage like light bowgun is one of the top damage dealers. It deals ALOT of low damage and consistently. You've probably also noticed that the same attack sometimes deals more or less damage even though its the same attack, that comes down to WHERE you hit the monster. Such as on Pukei-Pukei, you hit him for 180 damage on his head, but his wing only took 108. Monsters have different defenses to certain weapons on different parts. but hey....Damage is damage. Big risk gets big gains, but missing feels like crap Greatsword: Slow and powerful, Huge numbers, but aiming can be off, and leaves you open (many charge attacks have super armor which shrugs off light attacks so you dont get interrupted) Longsword: Great reach and nimble, allows you to side step after most attacks, but for big numbers gotta pull off riskier moves Sword and Shield: Quick and defensive. The true all rounder type, but not the master of anything. Twin Swords: Fast and constant damage. High damage and very evasive, but a lot of stamina managment Hammer: KO King. Can charge and move for big damage and stuns, but lacks defensive options while always aiming for the head Hunting Horn: The bard. Buffs, heals and pretty decent damage, but your buffs are tied to which attacks you use. Not difficult to learn...but gotta learn Lance: The shield wall tank, Able to block the heaviest of blows, It's damage could leave some wanting more, but you will outlast your opponant Gunlance: Explosive tank. Good defenses and decent damage, so long as you manage your ammo. SwitchAxe: Adaptive powerhouse. Many sweeping attacks. Quick axe strikes, heavy sword strikes and easy swap between. Lacking defensive options and a slow sheathe. Charge Blade: Complex and methodical, with devistating effect when mastered. However I would need a spreadsheet to explain how to properly use weapon Insect Glaive: Gymnastic self buffer. Quick and airborne can avoid many attacks while keeping decent damage going. Managing your buffs are mandatory Ranged Weapons: Stay within effective range or deal no damage. Aim at specific parts or deal less damage. Manage ammo or deal nothing Light Bowgun: High mobility range DPS. Like using a Rifle Heavy Bowgun: No mobility Tank. Like using a Cannon Bow: Infinate Ammo and mobile, but gotta charge attacks. Lock-on: I cannot express enough how lock on can be problematic. I reccomend changing it in the options to suit something more to your liking, I personally prefer a readjustment and not a lock. Adjustable in the options. Items: In the start menu, you can put important items you want quickly on the Radial Menu, This helps for using things like potions, whetstones orwhatever you want quickly....but also not required to do. But it is like macroing a an item Slow-learner: Ignore the neigh-sayers. Ain't no one who ever played Monster Hunter started off good. There are people who picked the right weapon for them and it clicked faster. There are people who used guardian gear and deny it, and there are people who had to figure everything out one step at a time. From finding out which weapon to use, to what stats even mean, item management and crafting, to reading monster tells when and how they gonna attack, everything. Monster Hunter is similiar to Dark Souls in those aspects. Just have to keep learning and improving. Your in "low-rank" and as you progress the story "high-rank" unlocks and than the expansion of the game Iceborne is "G-rank" or "Master Rank" same thing. Guardian gear is Iceborne Level gear which you could clear the entirety of World without upgrading it. Hence why people are adament about you not using it. They want you to experiance what they went through. Play how you want, but to give a comparison. If you've never played Warcraft, and just purchased a max level character....you still wont know how to play when your trying to do content your horribly unprepared for. Clunky-Gameplay: Pure preferance. It can certainly feel like that to many. It can also feel that way worse on some weapons than others. Great sword in particular is VERY SLOW and clunky. That's the point. Especially versus something thats meant to be quick and smooth like dual blades, insect glaive (when buffed) or long sword. Most players who find the game clunky dont typically complain about that when using things like bowguns or Dual Blades. Calling it Clunky kind of always sounds like someone saying "Prot warrior doesn't deal enough damage" like....no shit sherlock. For some, MH World might not be up their alley, and they could prefer Monster Hunter Rise which is much faster gameplay. But comparing Rise to World is...a whole discussion not worth getting into here Monster Tells and things you learn: You can see this as spoilers, but its never really said to you by anyone. But using Anjanath for example. He's considered by many as the first big wall, but he actually has some pretty telling moves. Most of his weak points (head and tail) are very high and hard to hit, however, his legs which are not weak points can become weak when damaged enough and "break" Also watching his face will typically tell which direction he plans to attack, along with tail on which way he swiming. He's a brute wyvern, meaning he pretty simple minded. Other notes, His nose will flair up into a horn, this means he gonna get more aggressive, while also meaning, he's charging his fire attacks, When his Back fins flair, it means his fire breath is charged and ready to fire. It's a devestating attack, but he cant fire it multiple times. Things like flashpods also work towards stunning monsters, getting them out of rage or downing ones that are flying. Crafting: in the crafting menu, you can manually craft items...and set things to automatically craft. Some things like potions are pre-marked to auto craft on pickup. Also useful for storing excess in the supply chest. Saves time gathering more potions EVERY quest. Some things are very unlikely to craft even with auto craft (like traps) as you'll most likely end up storing the items Food: There are two types. Your correct. The canteen food gives you buffs for your next quest, the WHOLE quest. Feinting does lose it. But it stays as long as you dont feint Rations: As time passes in the quest, you max stamina decreases. Eating rations restores the max stamina lost Sharpening: Ignore the harrassers. 2 things about keeping your weapon sharp. Higher Sharpness is higher damage (50% in the blunt red, and 132% when you have white sharpness) and less likely to have weapon reflected. When do you sharpen? When you reach a level of sharpness your not comfortable with. It's common people will sharpen when monster runs or when they get a second and dont gotta heal. but thats preferance. Green sharpess is standard damage, no benefit, no demerit. 0% change. Skills and Status: Armor can be upgraded, so Armor value doesn't matter as much as skills. Skills that dont apply to anything you have also have little value, but making a set around certain skills is great. Status effects on weapons are...different in Monster Hunter. I wont get technical, but elemental damage on weapons is added to the damage. This can be alot more damage or very little differance depending on the monster defences. but it IS bonus damage Status like Poison, Sleep etc, have a buildup
whenever I reccomend it to someone and they talk about how clunky the movement is, I always say its like a rhythm game, there's a beat for the combo and get use to it and you'll love the combat of the game.
huh when my friends asked me why I loved Velkhana so much I said it felt like a death dance between me and the monster... rhythm game makes so much sense in that regard
It makes sense because the first monster Hunter was partially inspired by phantasy star online which literally has a rhythm based combo system, at least in the entry I played
Can’t wait for him to get addicted to this. There are SOOOO many mechanics that get introduced as you progress and it’s perfectly paced IMO. I’ve been playing Monster Hunter since the first one on PS2. For sure I have over 12k hours collectively across the entire series.
Technically the second one released on PS2, was the one you played. The first game was never released outside of japan. They made Monster Hunter G for PS2 NA.
@@leoleo1035 It's still basically the first game. Just the full version of it, because we know how Capcom loved re-releasing these damn games prior to World.

@@leoleo1035 It's been more than a decade and mixing up details or remembering wrong happens to everyone. With that being said, you're remembering it backwards. The first game released both in NA and Japan, but the expansion was not released in NA for PS2, but it was released in NA later as Monster Hunter Freedom on the PSP.
I'm only halfway through the video now and I doubt Asmongold will ever actually read this but I'm gonna explain it anyways for other newbies. The importance and difference between food from the canteen and rations that you eat. There's an important mechanic you probably haven't noticed, but you certainly didn't notice up to this point. Your maximum stamina bar decreases in size over time. This generally isn't to big a deal during quests since 99% of them last only 50 minutes, which doesn't give your stamina bar time to decrease by too much. On expeditions however that changes. Your Maximum stamina bar will eventually decrease to the point you can't run for more then a few seconds and you can't roll without going completely out of breath. This is where the importance of rations or well cooked steak. By eating these small food items, it increases the size of your Maximum Stamina bar again. You can't go beyond a certain point in max size. Now for the Canteen. The importance of eating at the canteen serves many purposes, sometimes multiple depending on on which Meal you order. You can increase your Maximum Health, You can start the mission with your Maximum Stamina bar more filled or maxed up, and you can get random food skills that can range anywhere between more invincibility frames when getting up from a prone position, to having a chance of being quicker at sharpening your weapon. Chef's Choice is generally agreed to be the Go-To food choice at the Canteen to get in most situations because it will always give you Maximum Health and Maximum Stamina for when you start the mission and a good chance at rewarding the food skills listed for the choice. The more fresh ingredients in your meal, the better the chance at activating Food Skills.
It’d be really cool to see you master the Great Sword. It’s a very fluid weapon, and you can also shoulder charge out of incoming damage mid attack, so the key is to always be swinging that GS. A shoulder charge will also skip a step in your power up to reach the max damage faster.
oh wow he actually played it!! Gonna have to save this video for an off day for sure!! Based on this comment section it looks like he did pretty well and enjoyed it for the most part. Not surprising as most I know who enjoy RPG's and Souls games tend to love this series too! Looking forward to seeing if he plays Wilds when it drops like the rest of us
It always astounds me how slowly he picks up on the mechanics of a game. Sure, he's streaming so it adds a layer of distraction but still, there are prompts right in front of your face telling you what button to press.
@@aiheki Relegating important contextual information to an infodump in the corner of the screen is exactly what I mean by bad design. First it is a sign that the controls are not intuitive to begin with, which is already a major problem with the game, but it also means the information is not obvious. Of course if you already know how the game works then its obvious to you but to a new player that just simply isn't the case. Especially a new player that is familiar with games and has certain expectations for how they work and how information is conveyed to the user.
@@maskettaman1488 I was replying to your comment that implies the game just put an input on the screen with no context... There's always context next to those inputs in MHW... Like what do you want, a full essay next to them on what they would do? Personally I dislike the keyboard controls in MHW so I can get the confusion but the input is literally there, like with the shoot slinger situation. The first thing anyone should do in any game ever when not sure how to use something is to look at the UI or the control scheme if there are no inputs present in the UI Anyways skill issue (and I'm not talking about MHW, just general awareness)
@@aiheki Slapping a an icon on the screen that just says "Jangleberry" or whatever is meaningless. New players have no idea what that means. Hell, Asmon didn't even realize that the popup was contextual and I don't blame him. Most games like this put the popup near the item. So if there's a footprint to loot, the popup to do so would actually be near the item in world-to-screen space. That makes it very obvious what the popup means and what you're interacting with. This has been pretty standard design for like a decade They tried to band-aid this with the green indicator but they flubbed that by making it take so long to activate that you've already ran past the thing it was trying to highlight for you by the time it actually does. The entire UI and control scheme on this game is like stepping back through 10 years of evolution in game design communication and convention. And don't even get me started on how obnoxious and nonsensical navigating menus is. You can't even click to drag items around!
man this awesome to watch. asmon is naturally learning this pretty fast even when chats giving him mixed answers. i really hope to see him continue playing this but man some youtube videos, or guides, or ya know not skipping the tutorial text crawl (ik it sucks but at least it tells you EVERYTHING) i think would benefit him even more id be excited to see if he gets to G rank, as in hes interested in doing it but well have to see.
3:15:37 "How do I see if it's enraged?" Bro, it was literally fuming with fire 🤣 But to answer the question, it's when they do that or when they're steaming from the mouth. Enraged = stronger and faster. They usually get tired though after raging. But sometimes they just rage some more 😂
Something I love about this game that I noticed while Asmon was "fighting" Anjanath. Anjanath is usually pretty aggressive when you're fighting him because he's territorial and will challenge any threats he perceives. Anjanath is mostly ignoring Asmon until he whacks him with the sword. Anjanath just does not view him as a threat. Normally After you start attacking him he'd aggro on you if you see him again. Anjanath just does a threat display and walks off.
I bet once Asmon starts using more of his light attacks, he'll see just how much agile the GS can really be. Our boi been using heavy attacks this whole episode 😆
Its fascinating watching him play new games. Its like he learns in reverse order. He learned some more complex things in the beginning and the most basic stuff way later.
I used to play this on the ps2 online, first time I ever made actual online friends shame it closed down a few years later but that experience grew into a love for this franchise I'll never forget, such a solid series of games
I was pretty nervous when he chose a weapon and asked people which one is the best. Every weapon has its own cult, (except Gunlance users, yes all 5 of you). So asking for the best one is just funny to me.
Sharpness for your weapon is important because each color (signified by the blade shaped icon in the upper left hand corner right beneath your health and stamina bars) signifies a "tier" of sharpness. Monsters have hard points on their body that you need a certain tier of sharpness to attack through, otherwise your weapon will bounce off ineffectively. Barroth has a generally tough hide so attacks are more likely to bounce on him then other monsters depending on where you attack him at. Every Monster in Monster Hunter has a neat little gimmick about them that you can learn if you pay careful attention to them. Barroth likes to bath in mud, which applies a protective coat of mud on him that can sort of "deflect" hits once before breaking off. Rathian can inflict poison with her tail and cutting it off renders her impotent in that regard. Kulu Yaku will dig up rocks to use as weapons and shield itself, but there's also a small chance he could dig up something like an explosive rock (might not happen in low difficulties?) that adds extra damage to it's attacks. It's important to study monsters and their gimmicks while fighting to better prepare yourself for fighting them more successfully later on.
Sharpness above yellow also add a damage multiplier: green - 1.05x, blue-1.2x, white-1.32x, and purple-1.39x. Similarly any sharpness below yellow gives damage debuff orange-0.75x and red-0.5x.
Its always nice to see games i enjoy being enjoyed by other people. Heres to hoping this is the start of a long playthrough Asmongold. Hope you have a lot of fun with it. Try mastering the Sword and Shield, the perfect rush combo is quite strong.
It's cool to see he was so into this title. Here's hoping he continues playing. Stuff gets pretty technical later on despite being the "entry" game to the MH series for a larger audience.
You could tell he was totally into it. When he got into expedition mode in the forest he just tunnel visioned and picked up everything he could and killed everything he could. Glad to see he's enjoying it and getting another playthrough the next day. I can't wait to see him fight all the monsters. I do hope he checks out other weapons though.

@@motorbreathjz It's for the streamer persona
+
A player that refuses to learn or read anything in fron of him.
Example... the scout flies are a very very easy concept even a 5 year old could understand....he refuses to understand it not because he couldn't understand it but because he doesn't want to understand it.

The DLC for this game called IceBorne was scheduled to come out in the middle of the pandemic. A buddy of mine walked me through the base game a month before the DLC came out (stay at home mandate and we were both unemployed due to the pandemic as well) and it was super fun.
I was fully expecting this just to be something Asmon would just make content out of, just like BG3. The fact he is playing is flipping awesome.
The reason he played this is because it's an action game. That's what he plays now. If it has good combat, he will likely try it. My taste and games has funnily enough been much of the same as well that's how I can identify it.
Asmon understands why bg3 is good but its not the kinda game he plays. This is more in his ballpark anyway.
this game is quite similar to fromsoftware games like elden ring and dark soul series. dodge roll and slow attacks.
Bg3 is not the type of games he usually plays, a turn based strategy game.

This game scratches that rpg grind itch in such a good way, its kinda bizarre how good this game is and how underrated it has sort of remained.
Yeah the MH series is fucking amazing, love them all (except MH1 that ones fuckin weird)
Monster Hunter isn't niche or underrated anymore, it's an industry titan now
agree, but this title is the first hit success for capcom. more to come with wilds!
Methodical gameplay doesn't equate to clunky gameplay. Sometimes games are better when you actually have to commit to your character swinging a giant sword...
Its finally time everyone, Proof of a hero baby. MAY THE SAPPHIRE STAR LIGHT YOUR WAY
Watch him not even fight xeno jiiva
So great to see new people play this game. Enjoy 😊
Edit: Be sure to check (and do) the limited bounties to get celestial wyverin prints.
You can finish it?😮
The fact that there is no level and that you must learn to tailor your gear depending on the prey you hunt is also unique to the combat system.
So happy he played finally! Can’t wait to watch more! Let’s blow this video up guys! Let him know!
his hooked but depends
Feels nostalgic just watching him play. I love this game so much, so glad he's finally playing it

How many food, do I'm s'posed to have, was literal verbal art.
this game came out in 2018 and still looks better than most games that came out this year
5 years is a long time. Never would I thought seeing him playing this kind of game. Good luck Rookie!
You play poe?
Asmon has always been a quick learner when it comes to combat - it's just that doesn't really have the patience for the little stuff (weapon crafting, gathering/tracking mechanics, etc.)
Not mandatory for the most part, but it does slow down his progress a tad lol
he still needs to actually charge his attacks and roll after tcs.
Someone need to tell him to stop overcharge the TCS
@@shutup1037 too be fair, the game does a piss poor job at explaining this.
The one weakness of monster hunter games is that you always need zn outfit side tutorial to pick up weapond...
Dude, when he streamed this he had 44k viewers....
THATS NUMBER BREAKING!!!!
ITS OVER 9000!!!!
I hope this gets other streamers to play this game
Also i loved his reaction to the palico 2:29 after he spent 10 minutes on his charecter
As a greatsword main, watching him play through world and Iceborne with greatsword makes me very proud of him even when there's struggles, he makes it work
He actually did it
Honestly hope he keeps at this game even offstream cause monster hunter is truly an amazing experience. So much content and fun to be had.
Killed the Rathian in the escort mission 💀
This is a very complex but rewarding game and I hope you enjoy it, Zack.
Asmongold playing mh world, a time to be alive
Bros playing a gem that changed a lot of people. Can't wait to see this man get to Lunastra, Behemoth, Valkhanna and Ruiner 😭
Watching him get lost in the cave, going out the wrong way, and then happening upon the monster and drop shotting it off a cliff had me dying
I still remember when you saw the release trailer to this come and talked it down... I thought that was weird because this game fits well into alot of the core aspects of game design that you like. I'm happy to be watching you play this and hope you enjoy it. I have had alot of fun playing this with my friends.
Did he start playing soulslikes back then already? I think that changed it a lot
@@antares3030 Elden ring in general has opened alot of people up to finally try other games.
Figured since I missed live, I'd try and answer things you ask in video
First off, Well played! Gameplay was masterfully done for someone brand new to the series.
(Ignore any or all of this post, or read the sections you care about. Your learning at your pace which is best)
Weapons: ALL are designed around both solo and group play.
It'ss like a burst damage weapon)
(a skill called quick sheathe speeds up how fast you put away a weapon for instance for weapons which have a slow sheathe animation, great for Switchaxe, but not needed on sword and shield. or Skills that increase I-frames on dodge, or a skill that makes the dodge go much further. Some weapons get blunt quickly and need sklls to speed up sharpening.)
Weapon Damage: dont be fooled by the damage on each weapon.
Big risk gets big gains, but missing feels like crap
Greatsword: Slow and powerful, Huge numbers, but aiming can be off, and leaves you open (many charge attacks have super armor which shrugs off light attacks so you dont get interrupted)
Longsword: Great reach and nimble, allows you to side step after most attacks, but for big numbers gotta pull off riskier moves
Sword and Shield: Quick and defensive. The true all rounder type, but not the master of anything.
Twin Swords: Fast and constant damage. High damage and very evasive, but a lot of stamina managment
Hammer: KO King. Can charge and move for big damage and stuns, but lacks defensive options while always aiming for the head
Hunting Horn: The bard. Buffs, heals and pretty decent damage, but your buffs are tied to which attacks you use. Not difficult to learn...but gotta learn
Lance: The shield wall tank, Able to block the heaviest of blows, It's damage could leave some wanting more, but you will outlast your opponant
Gunlance: Explosive tank.
However I would need a spreadsheet to explain how to properly use weapon
Insect Glaive: Gymnastic self buffer. Quick and airborne can avoid many attacks while keeping decent damage going. Managing your buffs are mandatory
Ranged Weapons: Stay within effective range or deal no damage. Aim at specific parts or deal less damage. Manage ammo or deal nothing
Light Bowgun: High mobility range DPS. Like using a Rifle
Heavy Bowgun: No mobility Tank. Like using a Cannon
Bow: Infinate Ammo and mobile, but gotta charge attacks.
But it is like macroing a an item
Slow-learner: Ignore the neigh-sayers.
But comparing Rise to World is...a whole discussion not worth getting into here
Monster Tells and things you learn: You can see this as spoilers, but its never really said to you by anyone.
Some things are very unlikely to craft even with auto craft (like traps) as you'll most likely end up storing the items
Food: There are two types. Your correct. The canteen food gives you buffs for your next quest, the WHOLE quest. Feinting does lose it. But it stays as long as you dont feint
Rations: As time passes in the quest, you max stamina decreases. Eating rations restores the max stamina lost
Sharpening: Ignore the harrassers.
This can be alot more damage or very little differance depending on the monster defences. but it IS bonus damage
Status like Poison, Sleep etc, have a buildup
whenever I reccomend it to someone and they talk about how clunky the movement is, I always say its like a rhythm game, there's a beat for the combo and get use to it and you'll love the combat of the game.
Ya see never see it in that way and ya right
huh when my friends asked me why I loved Velkhana so much I said it felt like a death dance between me and the monster... rhythm game makes so much sense in that regard
It makes sense because the first monster Hunter was partially inspired by phantasy star online which literally has a rhythm based combo system, at least in the entry I played
I knew he was going to pick Great Sword lmao.

I have a buddy that has roughly about 8k+ hours on just monster hunter tri. Get those numbers up there!!!
@@leoleo1035 It's still basically the first game. Just the full version of it, because we know how Capcom loved re-releasing these damn games prior to World.
By his history. That first part of him getting addicted to it, it's pretty it's going to happen.
These days, his only "Addiction" games are builders and souls.
This is so weird....I literally JUST finished redownloading this game 7 minutes ago. Thank you asmon now I'll have people to play with
Yeah everyone did...
A shoulder charge will also skip a step in your power up to reach the max damage faster.
as a long time greatsword main i understand begging at the pixels on the monitor to just stay still for two seconds

Not surprising as most I know who enjoy RPG's and Souls games tend to love this series too! Looking forward to seeing if he plays Wilds when it drops like the rest of us
This game is so magical man clocked in 700 hrs on console and now a new play through on pc can’t get enough of it
This is awesome.
I hope he plays more of this. I doubt it though, it's already a miracle that he played this in the first place.
Aaaaaaaaand he beat it. 😂😂
Asmongold, Welcome to the world of Monster Hunter. You have no idea how many and how long we've been waiting for this
He knows, but he lazy.
This game looks awesome...it's hard to find good games now a days. Thanks for introducing it
Then you have MH Wilds coming out in 2025 💪
Welcome aboard, comrade! I hope you give it a try and enjoy! It's tough but it's a great experience, in my opinion.
It always astounds me how slowly he picks up on the mechanics of a game. Sure, he's streaming so it adds a layer of distraction but still, there are prompts right in front of your face telling you what button to press.
The game never explains why you would want to push those buttons though. Simply putting an "F" on screen with no context is just bad design
@@maskettaman1488asmon: "how the f do I do the thing"
Game in the top right corner: "X - the thing"
Asmon: HOW DO I DO THE THING
The first thing anyone should do in any game ever when not sure how to use something is to look at the UI or the control scheme if there are no inputs present in the UI
Anyways skill issue (and I'm not talking about MHW, just general awareness)
@@aiheki Slapping a an icon on the screen that just says "Jangleberry" or whatever is meaningless. New players have no idea what that means. Hell, Asmon didn't even realize that the popup was contextual and I don't blame him.
Most games like this put the popup near the item. So if there's a footprint to loot, the popup to do so would actually be near the item in world-to-screen space. That makes it very obvious what the popup means and what you're interacting with.
This has been pretty standard design for like a decade
They tried to band-aid this with the green indicator but they flubbed that by making it take so long to activate that you've already ran past the thing it was trying to highlight for you by the time it actually does.
The entire UI and control scheme on this game is like stepping back through 10 years of evolution in game design communication and convention. And don't even get me started on how obnoxious and nonsensical navigating menus is. You can't even click to drag items around!
Absolutely wild he's just now playing this game. Definitely a 20/10 game.
No way its a 20/10....
Its at least a 26/10!
The bounty question has me rolling. "How do I have 50% yes 50% No?!?"
I'll be honest, i came close to typing "no" in my head because I seriously had no idea you could check that.
@@Maelthorn1337 yeah I didn't know you could do that either, guess it's one of those things that is easy to miss
man this awesome to watch. asmon is naturally learning this pretty fast even when chats giving him mixed answers. i really hope to see him continue playing this but man some youtube videos, or guides, or ya know not skipping the tutorial text crawl (ik it sucks but at least it tells you EVERYTHING) i think would benefit him even more id be excited to see if he gets to G rank, as in hes interested in doing it but well have to see.
No way! God it makes me so happy to see more people get into Monster Hunter World.
3:15:37 "How do I see if it's enraged?"
Bro, it was literally fuming with fire 🤣
But to answer the question, it's when they do that or when they're steaming from the mouth.
If anything he should try all weapons in the training area offstream and see which weapon feels the best for him
asmon doesnt care about things that arent a greatsword
If we could get maximillian dood to join the corps of GLs then we can get anyone
I don't know what you mean, but he should've joined the Brotherhood of Charge Blades
Were fine.... "cries in the corner"
Asmon: that guy got f*d up
Also Asmon: wait, that's my cat O.O
This is unbelievable. I love this franchise so much. My most favourite franchise. Please keep it up.
I'm glad to see him playing this masterpiece
I’m so freaking happy that Asmon is playing Monster Hunter. It’s so good that he’s bringing so much attention to the franchise
Hes doing amazing with the Great Sword so far and if he learns the tackle he geniunly will be set for a while mechanics wise
So good to see Asmon playing my favorite game of all time. Legendary.
"How many food do im sposed to have" beautifully said asmon
Oh boy, I really hope Asmon has a lot of fun with this and plays it all the way through Fatalis. Probably never going to happen, but a man can dream.
Man it's always such a treat seeing someone new playing the game for the first time. It lets me relive my first experience with it.
1:05:16 Monster Hunter World isn't ONE game, it's 14 different games. The sooner a player realizes that, the better off they'll be.
