    I'm new into synthesizers, your videos are veryinformative and I can hear clearly how rich the sound of the P5 is, but as a hobbyist at my gig level and budget,I think the DM12 is more suited for my needs. i really appreciate your work.

    AAAAH - I cant choose... Made another shelf space for studio use only (live rig is full and does what I need - cant tell analogue from VA in a band mix usually anyway). So I have space for TWO modules... I have Peak and Virus Ti2 (and a Fantom 7 to drive them with its VA). Choices are Iridium (yeh VE - but with FM and sampling as well), Cobolt 8 (again another VA but sounds good), DM12, P6, OB6, Rev 2 9probably 8 voice but ??). I have no fully analogue gear so one will be DM/Rev2, P6, OB6 but cant decide if VCO is worth the extra cost over DCO. I could really use the control sequencer on the DM to give me things I dont have already..... and not sure DM12 plus Rev 2 is too similar. so could be DM12 plus Iridium - but then no VCO....... AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

    I downloaded your sample patches from this video and the Juno/DeepMind video. First thanks for those.
    They sound wonderful on the DM12. I also tried them out on the DeepMind 6 but noticed some (not all) don’t sound right at all. Can you think of a reason why that would be. These aren’t patches that are using up all 12 voices by any means.
    Thanks in advance.

    If the DM can do P6 then would you say it can get close to P5? I would love some P5 presets for the DM

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve not played the DM for ages so can’t remember if you can properly detune the 2nd oscillator - as far as I recall it’s tuning is linked to the main osc like the sub in the 106. This makes it impossible to make most of the tones you can get from the P5 and P6.

    These videos where you can make a single present sound like another more expensive synth are cool...But make a WHOLE song with just a Prophet 6 then the same song with the Deepmind, and see how they sound.

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah… they would sound the same using the same patches but it gets interesting if you go into areas the other synth can’t reach. I’ve not really found a good way of demoing that yet, without it just being a list of stuff one can’t do.
      Having 2 VCOs on the P6 for example gives intervals, FM etc so I end up making a load of tones the DM can’t do… that is covered by saying it can’t do them and I’m not sure it adds much to demo those sounds as well. But maybe it does for some folks wondering what I’m talking about. I did some in a recent video (UBXA vs OBX8) - I’m trying to figure it out without going too deep.

    The P6 has a real advantage over the DM12: two full fledge oscillators per voice, whereas the DM12 has only one oscillator plus a configurable sub per voice. Some patches can be made to sound very similar, as you've demonstrated here very well, but some patches on the P6 would be very hard to recreate on the DM12. Something as simple as 2 oscillators one octave apart and slightly detuned per voice. The DM12 can have 2 oscillators per voice in Unison-2 mode, but you cannot set their octaves separately. But otherwise, for a synth costing about a third of the price of a P6, the DM12 is a fantastic value for money and can sound bloody great when carefully programmed. Personally, I prefer the OB6 over the P6, but that's another story... Thanks for sharing !

    • @JimmiG84
      @JimmiG84 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Actually you can tune Unison voices in octaves using the Mod Matrix. Of course it would have been more convenient to have immediate access to two full oscillators, but there's very little you can't do on the DM with a bit of digging around the menus and mod matrix.

    • @ryanpwm
      @ryanpwm 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They slowly took over the audio industry... Almost everyone buys parts from them. I work as a repair tech now and you will see the same parts, same exact model number, in monitor speakers that are like a $1000+ that behringer is selling for $300. Same thing with boards and everything. They still don't assemble to the highest standard, but their products are an insanely good deal now.

    Thank you for the comparison, the comments and video. The prophet has a thick, round resonating character but with some bite to it, whereas the OB is more thick and round and the DM is more biting. The Rev2 is a closer comparison to the DM imho, both being a bit more biting (but the rev2 having a more crystallized sound to it). Thats what I am gathering so far.

    i had watched all 3 videos "DM Vs DSI prophet / ob", very INTERESTING videos... all 3 are very good synths in some ways, if you don't consider the price, it's difficult to choose one...
    That said, would have been nice, if possible, to compare the DM with the REV 2, as they're pretty close in their designs, parts, etc...Just sayin.
    cheers !

      @StarskyCarr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @fabientdemort5630
      @fabientdemort5630 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah don't mind...
      I'm a bit curious and wanted your opinion :
      As you had in hands 4 of the most in view analog poly synths : DM, REV2, P6 and OB 6, and, what i liked in your videos, you put into lights sonic differencies (or not) but never intend to say what's best... you're right, it's a matter of taste, use, price etc and it's very individual...
      the main difference between DM / REV 2 and P6 / OB6 is the circuitry. first are ICs and the two 6 voices "discrete", i own a voyager, sound so much intense... i love it. But price for discrete are insane (except BOOG, again !)...
      So do you think rev 2 is closer to the DM or closer to the OB6/P6, the osc, the filters, the vcas ?
      Tell me if you want, can, have time !
      I repeat,very interesting videos, comparative vids are far better to choose... I loved the DM/VS 106 vid ! unbelievable !

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks - I’d put the Rev2 closer to the P6 and OB6 than the DM. It’s more flexible and hands on, and easier to match the sounds. The DM is great, but if I had the choice I’d go for the Rev2 - as with the P6 there’s a reason it’s more expensive and it’s a personal decision as to whether the additional cash is worth it or not. For me it is.

    • @fabientdemort5630
      @fabientdemort5630 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks... Agreed.
      same for me. And rev 2 has more voices and a wider mod matrix (evolver, mopho, tetra... the dsi mod matrix is so great), sequence options etc...
      just sayin : next for you is the moog one ! :)))
      e-mail them, who knows ?

      Definitely but bear in mind the P6 is 3.5x more expensive. I'm really torn between a P8 and DM due to budget and keep feeling that as I'm not a primarily a keys player and it'll be a studio instrument that the Behringer might be the way to go.

      nym053 yeah man sure. The sounds from all over the DSIs are incredible and you can definitely tell the difference but unless you’re gonna be using it every day to earn money I guess it’s not worth it. I’ve got a Moog Phatty which has great bass and lead but looking for a solid poly synth I can pick up and play. As a horn player primarily doing some library songwriting I’m not bringing in enough to justify P6 money. This seems great value but I know I’ll always pine for the DSI badge!
