    That man's 2 Ghostbusters movies transcended multiple generations. People who watched the films in theaters decades ago grew up and showed them to their children and grandchildren. If you drive anywhere in an Ecto-1 replica, especially in New York, everyone and their mother will recognize the machine AND want a picture. The firehouse in New York became a treasured landmark to movie fans. The films themselves were fine wines that truly got better with age. It was incredible to see Ivan's son Jason Reitman rise up one day and create a new Ghostbusters movie with him recently.
    Ivan Reitman was and is a filmmaking legend. He left a rare mark in the film industry that's nearly if not impossible to replicate. Some people had their lives changed by the first Ghostbusters film alone. His status as a legend is and will always be truly unquestionable.

      I disagree with Afterlife being 3. The *real* Ghostbusters 3 is the video game, and Afterlife is 4. It even incorporates a lot of the ideas from dead scripts. We already had a Ghostbusters 3 for a very long time and yet most people still don’t even know about it, even when it got remastered. It’s sad…

    I do own some of Ivan Reitman's films including "Twins (1988)", "Kindergarten Cop (1990)" and "Six Days, Seven Nights (1998)". This shocked me just as much as Harold Ramis when he died in 2014. It was an honor to see his son Jason experience his fair share of success as a filmmaker especially with the recent box-office smash "Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)". I am a tremendous fan of the whole Ghostbusters film franchise especially the 1984 original that started everything and the cartoon spinoffs. Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman, your movies represented my childhood as much as my adulthood. You two are the most beloved brothers of comedy filmmaking, y'all made me and my fellow fans before and after me laugh and cry with your films. Thanks for the laughter and all the memories 😢

      @TVSpotMovieFan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andrewbloom7637 Actually the 2016 all-female reboot "Ghostbusters (2016)" was a commercial bomb. Here's why GA was a commercial smash though...because "Afterlife" took only a $75 million budget to make, (which was half of the failed female 2016 reboot took which was $144 million) and closed out with $196.4 million worldwide. It also surpassed the break-even $150 million threshold even though it fell short of turning a $200+ million profit. So technically "Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)" was a commercial smash and lost no money, unlike that bizarre all-female cast predecessor "Ghostbusters (2016)", that film grossed $229 million against a $144 million budget, however Sony reported a net loss of $70 million, and it was still a commercial box office dud due to failing to gross $300 million to break even.

    • @TVSpotMovieFan
      @TVSpotMovieFan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewbloom7637 We both agree "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" lost a few bucks but not as much as the 2016 female-centric reboot. It didn't bomb too bad though. GA coulda and shoulda done better business. Right now Sony will not reveal how much they lost promoting GA but stick around.

    He was the perfect person to be in charge of this franchise, alongside Dan Aykroyd, for all these years. There was something that he brought that would have been sorely missing with anyone else at the helm (or at least helping steer the ship.) He successfully handed the torch down to the next generation and I feel genuinely grateful that his influence will be felt for a long time to come.

    Ivan Reitman seemed to cherish the fans of ghostbusters. Every interview I've ever seen with him he always spoke fondly of the community. It never came off as a chore for him to talk about ghostbusters and that just warms my heart. He is a huge reason why the franchise has been as good as it is. Not only did he direct the first 2 movies, he also served as a consultant for The Real Ghostbusters as well as a producer of the new movie.
    It was fitting that he stood in for Harold. Now the two are reunited.

    Breaks my heart. I’ll severely miss him!
    Not only was a huge part in giving us the fantastic world Ghostbusters, but also as mentioned Kindergarten Cop, Twins, Lampoons, and so many more fantastic things.
    Thank You so much Ivan! I’ll miss you very much and will always remember you.

    Heartbreaking news. Ghostbusters was a big part of my life growing up in the 80's watching all those amazing movies that brought up smiles, awe and laughter like BTTF, The Goonies, ET, Indiana Jones, Star Wars,, Ferris Beauller, Tron, Ghostbusters I&II and other great movies. RIP Ivan,

    Like a lot of people will say, Ghostbusters is my lifetime favourite movie. I don't even remember seeing it for the first time. It's always been there and my go-to for almost every mood. Waking up to the news this morning broke my heart.

    Tragic. But you know what? It's also so sweet. He made the movies that made the child hoods of so many, and his son gets to carry his legacy forward. I'm so thankful for the fact that Ivan Reitman got to see Afterlife, he will never be forgotten.

    That man was truly a comedy visionary, his legacy will always live on through the iconic movies he gifted to the world, may he Rest In Peace. He’s up in the heavens now probably chatting with Harold Ramis and Michael C. Gross.
    I’ve had the privilege of meeting Ivan and Jason Reitman, it was at the 2019 LA Fan Fest. While I was there with my brother and dad, we knew we had to autographs from the cast and crew. We got Aykroyd, Hudson, William Atteren, Paul Feig and Ray Parker Jr. The funny thing is, we got autographs from the Reitmans, but my brother kinda had to chase them down whenever we found them. We were nice about it, they were nice about it, and I happily have that sheet of autographs hanging in my room.
    I’m happy I got to see the director of my all time favorite movie before he peacefully crossed over.
