      I really like the encounter with Mike and Saul afterwards too...Also, beforehand when they're listening to the audio of the argument and Walt is freaking out. Saul hears that noise and says "oh God" like he might have hurt her and Mike says "It's the dishwasher"....And Saul: "My SECOND wife cheated on me with my stepdad. It's a cruel world Walt. Grow up"....Btw, that line is real that his second wife cheated with his stepdad. They left it out of BCS for some reason probably bc they couldn't cleverly fit it into the story they came up with. Saul doesn't lie about stuff like that in Breaking Bad and you can tell he's telling the truth. It's BCS's loss and failure to include it. BB is canon; BCS has some fan fiction sprinkled in it.

    About Hank & his boss..., I don't think Hank is "In trouble" for refusing to go to El Paso in that I don't think he's putting himself in danger of losing his job, he's just very clearly hopping off the ladder of advancement and resigning himself to never rising any higher in his career. His boss isn't stupid, he knows that Hank went though really bad experience in El Paso, he can see that he's making excuses to avoid going back, so without quite saying it he's putting it on the table: Are you going to suck it up and go back now, or am I going to have to come to the conclusion that you don't have what it takes to function at that higher level, and that you're better suited to this lower-level casework where you've proven to be effective?

    • @xajaso
      @xajaso 5 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      This is 100% right. Hank is a fed employee; IIRC he even refers to "making GS-13" w/ the El Paso promotion. The divide between GS12 & 13 = mid-level vs. upper management. Profound difference in pay & responsibilities. Lots of fed employees take a tentative offer and end up declining; it's inconvenient but not really a dealbreaker job wise. My husband is a GS12, FWIW. Doesn't want promotion to stressful GS13 at this stage of career either.)
      Hank's an experienced & successful DEA ASAC & therefore a high value employee; his relationships w/ informants alone would be priceless. DEA would accept the inconvenience & work hard to retain him. Dangerous job & these guys sure aren't getting rich on gov't pay! It takes years to turn a green agent into a player like Hank. But he probably wouldn't see an opportunity to jump up in grade anytime soon.

    • @daviddufresne343
      @daviddufresne343 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xajaso GS12 pay was 66k to 86k as of last year. If there's any real risk to life and limb beyond what your average street cop faces, yeah not very good. GS15 nearly doubles that pay, probably with additional perks. No idea how hard that jump would be if he took the GS13, but he looks like he's essentially consigning himself to the working class, except with way better benefits.

    Nobody's perfect. That's why this show is so good, all the characters are flawed but can be "likeable", even a scumbag like Saul Goodman is really funny to watch. It's easy for us as viewers to sit back and think "oh, Skyler should do that, Walt should do this", but when you are in a bad relationship you don't think very clearly and may do some things you may regret later.

      J.F. Luiña Bousquet honestly this episode is where I really started disliking Walt, because he starts constantly acting like he has the moral high ground over everybody and it got real annoying, real fast. “Real upstanding line of work, by the way”, as if Walt has any business talking about upstanding lines of work when he’s cooks meth and has murdered people

    The scene in the store between Jessie & cashier is one of my fave Aaron Paul moments of the series. More than words, he uses his body language, voice, & insane confidence w/ cop to persuade that girl, legit switching from his depressed & cold persona to a 1000-watt charmer in seconds. Reminds viewers that sadsack Jesse can be quite scary in his own way.
    I saw an interview where the BB writer said he originally wrote Jessie for a shorter role & as a hardened character like Tuco. Aaron Paul's IRL sweet & gentle nature came thru in his work; he interpreted Jessie as we see him. Writer rewrote the character completely, fleshing out his backstory & making Jessie more sympathetic. Good call!

    I think this show, besides being such a badass entertainment perfo, is about how breaking bad into crime can alter (or "walter", if you prefer :) people's reasonably "white" lives, and not only the bad breaker's own life but a lot, an escalating lot of lives in dramatic and unpredictable and dangerously gray ways. In this sense, it's surely a masterpiece!

      onetruenightking it’s insane. I get being so wrapped up in a story that you don’t like a certain character but I don’t get the leap that has to be made to hate the person playing a role.
      Anna Gunn more than earned her nominations & awards. All of the actors & I do mean all of them were very good. Not a disappointing performance in the bunch. I may have disliked some characters or been frustrated with some characters but for me, that shows how well the actor performed their part

      Yea I remember back in the day when the show was happening, i heard that she got threats and I was like wow people are so stupid. Bear in mind for a long time I hated Skylar but it's just a damn freaking role and the actress was basically good at doing her work. She's such a great lady in real life too. Anyway these shows thrives because you are not set in stone in your perception of these characters. Even Skylar who I didn't like, it comes and go, you hate somebody and then you like them again, it's a roller coasting ride.

Your comments also made me think about the actor who played Joffrey in GoT, Jack Gleeson, who actually quit acting due to all of the hate he got in public from GoT fans and the death threats he received. Sad that he felt a credible need to give up his profession for his and his family’s safety and well-being because he took on a role and played it to perfection

He believes that, if Walt hears that Jesse is working with Gus, Walt's pride will force him to come to Gus himself. I think what Skyler is doing is trying to take control of her life. It's like kids that act out when their home lives are out of control. Her sex life is one thing she can control. And she told Walt because she thinks it puts her on equal footing with him. You are doing something that upsets me that is out of my control, well, I am doing something that upsets you and you can't do anything about it.

      One of them is doing something that could get the entire family killed or imprisoned. It's debatable whether he is doing it for non-selfish reasons or if he is on a power trip, high on the adrenaline.

    • @nadilmahil123
      @nadilmahil123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@OG_Fernando Skyler is no saint, but Walter is certainly just as selfish. It should also be noted that if he was doing it for the benefit of his family, he could have stopped a long time ago. Just look at "Over" from Season 2. In that episode, Walt has just found out his cancer is in remission. He's also just produced a huge amount of meth that he can now sell and pay any bills he may have (I believe that's what he eventually sells to Gus for half a million dollars.) Tuco's long gone, and at this point Walt has an easy exit from the business. He's accomplished his goal of paying for his treatment and helping his family. Nobody at this point is pulling him back in.
      But Walt is unable to satisfy himself around the house, and when he sees the kid buying the ingredients for meth at the store, he goes up to him and says "Stay out of my territory." That is pure ego and selfishness from Walt, putting his family in danger.

    Hank is turning down his promotion and saying it's because he wants to look into the Heisenberg case. His boss knows it's really because he's afraid but has enough respect for Hank not to call him on it. To be fair though, Hank does really want to solve the Heisenberg case.
    This is an episode of people lashing out. Hank lashing out at Gomez and that girl, Skyler lashing out at Walt and Walt lashing out at everybody. This is a very stressful time for our characters. Except for Jesse, who is taking it a little to chill.

      Nanz Abas exactly. This show is making you root for Walt. That’s who the show is about right? (Obviously). If people just root for skylar to do the right thing, the show would have no purpose. It’s the feminist bull crap with people calling Steven a “misogynist” when it’s a show for Pete’s sake!!! lol

    • @nanzabas3595
      @nanzabas3595 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xajaso Well some people believe Skylar should be exempt from any criticism because all her actions are based on Walt's behavior/choices. I think each character should be held accountable for their actions to a certain degree; a far lesser degree for Skylar in comparison to Walt's transgressions. Skylar sleeping with another man as a way to get back as Walt is inexcusable and pathetic especially since she's in position to make far better decisions. The only victims here the children who have no clue of what's going on.

    Something I just thought of I never had before: WHERE did Jesse get the chemical that makes Walt's formula blue? I thought the whole purpose of that lengthy cook of so many pounds of product was in part to finish off that huge container that it took both of them to steal, and clumsily at that, from a place Walt had inside information on. Did the show even mention where he found a new source of that chemical and then how he got it? Or was there some still left over?

    Breaking Bad is an amazing show, so layered that it’s hard not to change your mind constantly about it. It’s great that you are able to discuss and reavaluate things calmly - rare these days. Us, viewers just have to remember we are judging your first impressions that might change (or not).
    The Skylar thing, tho, I get it, because most ppl REALLY hated her no matter what she did back then at this point of the show, which I don’t get. I believe female characters suffer from this, they can never be grey or they’ll be hated... like Daenerys in GOT. Anyway, I guess ppl felt protective.

    Skyler could have easily avoided some issues if she was acting purely out of the kids protection and not her personal absense from Walt's presence. Constant access to phone calls or maybe even Skype video chat to kids, and get togethr weekly or monthly for lunch. Potential murderers would not strike in broad daylight in a restraunt at peak hours would they? Walt would agree to these conditions because he still has a relationship with his children and Skylar would agree because their safety would be assured.
