- Jaguar seems to have waited the longest to join the crossover party but the 2017 F-Pace is worth the wait. In a segment that seems to be increasingly full of practical front wheel drive family haulers, the F-Pace is all about being the best handling compact luxury CUV leaving the X3 behind and giving the Macan a run for its money.

The first time I saw this in person, I couldn't stop staring. Wow. I'm still savoring that moment.
This is the first Jaguar I would consider buying. I really like the design overall inside and out. My biggest concern is the reliability.

I couldn't agree more. I'm from Chile, we speak spanish, but this guy speaks english very well, I could understand everything and this review is the best of what i've seen on youtube

Really like the fact you jump in the backseats and compare the legroom with other competitors. Not a lot of reviewers do it as informative as this. Great car though Im thinking about leasing one.

If my kids were still little I'd buy this in a heartbeat. I have driven it and it's a delightful vehicle and handles brilliantly on our twisty roads around here. As it is, I'll stick with my XE which makes me happy every time I get in to it.

Fantastic review! You know way more than my local dealer! Bought one last year never missed a beat and still getting the look from people and constantly asked about the car! Got the 20d AWD with 22inch black rim and yes drive is engaging and I can feel every bits of road imperfections! Love it! Very sporty drive!

Love the detailed reviews. I checked out the F-Pace review because I'm shopping the Range Rover Velar for 2018 model, this Fall. Both vehicles share the same Chassis.
Excellent and detailed review as always, including comparing the competition. I have no idea why this channel doesn't have more subs.
Gonna be hard to decide between the new XC60 and F-pace.. F-pace offers V6 and 340hp if not opted for the diesel for now, other European brands are at 250-ish hp, that's quite significant.
Also this is one of the best looking compact SUV out there.
Wonder when will Audi and BMW update Q5 and X3?
It's a shame they downsized even more for the non-s models. Good thing we got the 35t

They really did a great job with this vehicle. While I do hate the interior design (as I do with all recent Jaguars) it still wouldn't be a deterrent. Job well done Jaguar.
I like the interior design on the XJ and had hopes that the dashboard theme would have carried over to the rest of the family. This, the XK, and the XE dashboards look more akin to a Range Rover with its straight lines. A Jaguar is supposed to be curvaceous and sumptuous. I don't think that the back lights say English or Jaguar either.
I almost bought a 340 hp fpace. actually came down to that and the Durango rt. Opted for the rt as it has the performance, more space and tech, and cheaper. fpace was tough to pass on though

According to Doug DeMuro, this is the most average luxury crossover/suv. I thought he was right. Don’t think that by average I mean bad; in fact, I think it’s a great value and it has a lot of good stuff. Others have more, others are cheaper, others are nicer, others are more powerful; but this is a good compromise if you want a good amount of everything
Would like to see this type of vehicle with all seats down and a comparison of total cargo space... not just how your fancy pink roller bag fits :-0

@AlexOnAutos- EXCELLENT review of the F-Pace. It certainly has the looks of the class. And how could you not love standard AWD and available SC V6 for under $50k. Even base models turn my head!
I love everything....except the switchgear! Seems appropiate for a Ford, not a Jag and it's luxury intention. I see in little places where the were able to offer a lowish price. The switchgear, non-Alcantara headliner, non-leather wrapped dash, and JLR parts-bins bits here and there, including the chassis, a VERY GOOD one from the XE/XF.
Still, I'd take this over any of the others...except the Macan Turbo...off lease! 😎
This is a really beautiful SUV... If I could afford it I would buy it.

Thanks for the roller bag tests. For vehicles like these I'd like to see if a golf bag will fit between the wheel wells, or where it will. As well as how many. Finding accurate cargo measurement is difficult. Currenty I drive a second gen (2012) Hyundai Santa Fe, and can comfortably take four adults, their full size golf bags, and over night bags. As you know the Santa Fe's handling is OK at best, love its v6 and freeway gas mileage. The FPace sure looks like a vehicle I'd like to upgrade to. I love it!!!! Pouring rain and you keep soldiering on as if it were a sunny day. No sir, rain ain't gonna stop me!!!!! AND you review is SPOT ON. I have an RX350 2013 now and will get this car next just because the new RX are ugly in the front and got WAYYYYY too big.

Some people need to know how many dead hookers you can fit in your cargo area. What's so odd about that ?
The elephant in the room is Jaguar reliability and maintenance costs.
You're right that the Q5 ISN'T front wheel drive biased, but in 2018 it will esentially be such. As MotorTrend said, "Quattro Ultra differs from Audi’s standard Quattro full-time all-wheel-drive system in that it can decouple both the driveshaft and rear differential. That essentially makes the Q5 a front-drive vehicle, all in the name of fuel economy."

Really good review, Macan comparison comment is v true, I did a review of the F Pace too - not as good as this one I might add, could be worth a look though !
The Macan is really not very useful in terms of utility compared to the others, but what would its resale be compared to say, the Jaguar?
I miss the days when Jaguars were know for their elegant and sophisticated styling. When you had a Jaguar it was classic and special. Now they are the same as every other car on the road. Sporty and simple clean lines. If it went't for the logo you would honestly think you were looking at a Mazda. Today the top of the line ford or Chevy has the same features offered in these "luxury cars" but for about half the price. I'm sure most people probably adore the newer Jags but I much preferred the jags of the past. Excellent review though as always Alex. I really enjoy watching your videos.

In this country, if I was allowed to own just one vehicle, it would be the F-Pace. Similarly, if I was allowed to choose just one auto reviewer, it would be Alex.

In driving these cars I learned neither the base or the premium models have the rear armrest and cupholder. You have to buy a prestige or r-sport.

Alex, I really appreciate your review of this vehicle as we're aggressively researching whether to purchase another X5 or new F-Pace. I'm curious, have you ever done a review for the Range Rover sport? I'm also looking to purchase a Range Rover as we need 2 new cars in a few months when we return back to the US. I owned a 2015 Escalade (the re-design) before leaving the US for work and loved it. But I think I'm moving towards a RR for my next full sized, luxury SUV. I towed a 6K lb trailer with my Escalade and it was perfect. But, I can't seem to find any reviews on RR and its towing capabilities.
All new Volvo XC60 just got announced today at Geneva.

You Get In That Trunk Alex!
A few comments on the reality of this vehicle, which I considered purchasing before going with a CPO X5.
1. In reality you are not going to get one in the color, trim, and options you want unless you order one, and that may take a while to arrive.
2. Most on lots are not that desireable in wheel design, trim, etc. Either too spartan or too loaded.
3. You are not going to have more than one dealer option in your area, most likely.
4. The brand does not have a great reliability history, which means this matters more than usual.
5. Dealers are also small, volumes low, so I wouldn't expect big discounts.
6. If you live or travel accross rural areas, you are pretty SOL if you have a breakdown. Expect a few nights in a hotel and a long towing bill (most coverages stipulate 100 miles or less, or you pay).
7. I would call it an X3, XC60, GLC competitor, except a little bigger. A nice size for my needs. But like many, this vehicle makes more sense in mid trim levels than loaded up in higher trims. It's a bargain at $50K, just so-so for $65K.

Any updated reviews. I sat in a 2018 year model at the LA Auto Show and the legroom was pretty tight. The land rover was the same also.
So in terms of Handling the best is Macan>F-Pace>x3>Q5/GLC/RDX?

Hey Alex, why is it when I read the specs for the X5 and compare with the F-Pace, they are almost identical? In fact, the X5 is 2 inches narrower than the F-Pace. Am I missing something? I'm asking, because we're are currently in the market for a new SUV. We've owned the X5, and LOVED it. But my wife is really keen on the F-Pace. We're currently out of country now and unable to really view them at the moment, so I'm doing research to determine which one makes sense. The X5, or the F-Pace. The only thing I could find is the cargo area is slightly less than the X5.
F-PAce width: Overall width inc. mirrors (in): 85.6
X5 Width: 76.3
Length:
F-Pace: 186.9
X5: 193.3
To me, at the face of it, it looks like the X5 is actually wider than the F-Pace. In fact, we've rented the XF in December and it felt more narrow than the X5, in the interior anyway. But when you view them, the X5 looks wider, feels wider. Does that make sense? I'm guessing the 6" difference in length really doesn't matter too much as far as leg room in the back, but probably affects the cargo area with the Jaguar having some less, but not by a large margin. To me, it would seem the F-Pace is more in line as a competitor for the X5 than the X3.
