      Ajaz I agree that everyone's quit will be different, but feeling strange is likely a product of using nrt (as you mentioned on a different video of mine). You're likely still in a state of withdrawal that a cold turkey quitter rarely is experiencing on day 17. I understand the choice to start your quit with nrt, but I personally don't believe that anyone "needs" it. I actually think that you're making your quit harder for yourself. Don't get me wrong, I much prefer you use nrt than smoke, but as long as there is nicotine in your system, you are prolonging the withdrawal stage. If it works for you, that's great. Unfortunately, I never had a great experience with nrt (probably only tried it 2-3 times). I consider myself pretty enlightened on the issue, and I swear by cold turkey as the most painless and straight forward way to quit. I don't want to discourage you at all, because you have the right intentions, and you're succeeding. And I truly want you succeed any way that you can. I'll tell you, the fact that you've gone 17 days with nrt and are feeling strange is a clear indicator to me that you don't need nrt. The period in which you might have felt strange going cold turkey would probably have been less, and maybe just a bit more intense in the beginning. You probably have better willpower than I do. But nrt is forcing you to use your willpower longer. You and I are having very different quits. I hope that you'll keep in touch with me so I can better understand your method in case I run into others that are quitting with nrt. While everyone's quits are different, Joel's videos are pretty universal to cold turkey quitters. He understands that everyone is different, but he also has decades of experience seeing the same issues, and being asked the same questions. The people are different, but the addiction is very much the same.

    Jared. Just wanted to let you know how much your videos have helped me. Watching your journey as I start mine, gave me confidence and the feeling that I wasn't alone. We appreciate you taking time to make these videos. Are youvstill quit?. And also wanted to say, I know the exact feeling your talking about in terms of the caffine/nicotine shaking feeling. I used to get this starting about a year ago. It was scary. Like your body is rejecting the nicotine and your heart is over working. Anyway because of that feeling I quit. Cold turkey. It's been 4 days now and I feel fantastic. So thank you again brother. Stay strong.

    Day 21 for me. Previously when quitting day 23 has been my max. I found the last couple days my cravings are getting stronger too but could be stress related, my husband is sick and was rushed to hospital last night by Flying Doctor service. But I am determined from this day forward I am a non smoker. Your idea that nothing healthy matters because you’re a smoker anyway, is exactly how I feel. I have had health conditions building up for years and have just gone through them all and am now working on them because, of course I’m a non smoker. I’m in my 60’s and smoked for 39 years. I figured it was already too late. My daughter said to me ‘it’s never too late, you’re still alive’. Thanks for this video it has validated some of my thoughts.

    This is exactly what i need to listen to everyday because im struggling. My first week i didn't have any problems at all. By the end of the second week i felt my mouth just needed it and the craving was so bad that i tried to sleep to stop feeling it and then had nightmares and woke up with the cravings even stronger. Im on week 3 now and i feel like im about to break. My body is going crazy. My whole body is tingling. I feel that at any moment i could fall back into it. So now im watching you trying to calm myself down... thank you for this video. I wish i had someone like you by my side reminding me why i must go on!

I think I'm going to use your videos for inspiration everyday. I need to hear you remind me these things because i can't even sleep normal. @@nidalkhan6161 hey. Ever since that time I never tried it again! I just have to say that was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. It was awful. I tried to go to sleep because the side effects were awful. And then I kept waking up in the middle of the night cause I had nightmares and then the craving and the sensation in my gums and whole body kept happening and pulsating. It was awful 100%. And I didnt use any substitutes. I felt like giving in so many times. But I didnt. And even though it was harder than what you can imagine, I made it through and I'm happy about breaking free from it. I have felt tempted again a few times especially when sad or depressed because cigarettes were linked to my emotions as well. But I just never give in. Hope you can do it too.

Would not like to repeat these first nights - it was nightmare, sleepless, pulse elevated, I guess that was anxiety kicking in. Right there I realised how big of a dirt it is to smoke. Stay strong, peoole!

    Great video as per usual. Speaking of triggers, I reckon you should do a video on drinking. This is where many many people slip up, including myself on past quit attemps. It's also something thst stops many people from attempting to quit; nit wanting to abstain from booze. I have my own opinions on it, but I'd love to hear yours.

    Hey Jared
    Thanks for your great videos and insights into why we smoke and more importantly how that helps us quit... I’m on day 22 of my second quit 👍doing well and feeling positive. The first quit was by using Alan Carr which was great, but like you had a cigarette at a party after not smoking for nearly a year. It took almost a year of me “ social “ smoking to admit a was back at square one and then another year to actually quit again ( although like you had a few short 12 hour quits ). I can honestly say now I never want to smoke again, but I said that 3 years ago which leads me to think what can I do now to stop the future me making the same mistake.. thank you for your videos which I think have helped me analyse my smoking decisions and hope will help me become my future friend X

    • @HealthWink
      @HealthWink  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m so happy you’re doing so well. I know at 22 days, you’ve put a lot of work in, but keep in mind that it’s still going to get wayyyy easier with some more time. The hardest part is behind you, but you still have some challenges ahead as you figure out how to do everything again as a non smoker. It seems like you have a really good perspective on it all. Just stay tough, keep your resolve up, and before you know it, you’ll realize you haven’t even thought about cigs in a while :)

    I’m day 23 today. I feel like my faith and spiritual side that got me this far. Actually I’d say it’s majority of my faith. I do remember the smokers cough would only come when I was sleeping and it would wake me up and keep me up for half an hour. I don’t have that anymore since quitting, also, since quitting I have very chappy lips, my shortness of breath comes randomly it isn’t bad but damn that shortness of breath really has me taking DEEP breathes. The first week I’d be very tired but that quickly went away. The same day I quit I also started a strict diet because I knew I’d become fat for trying to substitute cigarettes for food. Good luck to anyway trying to quit. It’s easy. Convince yourself that it’s super easy and psyche yourself out that you’ve never smoked before.

    Great info in this video! I can definitely relate to a lot of them things you mentioned here. Right before my quit I had a terrible smokers cough to where I'd hack my lungs up. Now, I haven't weezed or coughed before bed at all. It use to sound like my lungs were whistling now nothing...and I have the same issues with certain, random places and things that give me triggers. You are doing so well and your so inspiring! Just take it one day, one moment, one trigger at a time. Lock yourself in a box when you have a trigger if needed ..hahahaha keep it up!😀

    • @HealthWink
      @HealthWink  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, that weezing is terrible, and it was getting worse for me than it had ever been in the last couple of months. I still feel really confident! Quitting really is a journey, so there will be lessons to be learned and challenges to face for a very long time. Still, every day we put between us and that last cigarette makes it all the easier :)
