This is our least favorite day of the last two years of travel! For at least six months we have been looking forward to a week-long getaway from the kids but the day before travel we realized that Megan lost her passport. Can we find it? Will the embassy have a solution for us? Is our long awaited trip over?

Just a bit of advice from someone who has lived thru this, make 3 photo copies of everyone's passports, and leave a copy with someone you trust, and another copy at your current location , and take a copy with you in your checked in luggage, while on your trip. This makes replacement SO MUCH FASTER for the embassy! Glad it got sorted for ye though, and Well Done on your business achievement ! We hope to meet you when you return to Ireland! And God Bless you on your holiday!
That was so hard to watch! Even though I know it turned out great, you guys were in so much anguish, I was so sad for you. Thank you for sharing though. Your heartache was so relatable. I've certainly been through times where I was deeply disappointed, and yeah, it sucks! Can't wait to see the joy on your face when you find out you're going after all! ❤

It was hard to watch, especially after watching the children's vlogs from the week and knowing you did go. But my heart was with you every step of the way, because it's happened to all of us. What I want to tell you, though, Megan, is that you were not dumb, and you didn't do anything wrong. This is what it means to be human. I sure identify with how hard it can be to love ourselves through this kind of disappointment, but let's make a deal we both keep trying!!

Ugh!!!! That was so painful. I couldn’t even take comfort in knowing someone else looses important stuff and can’t find them at last minute like me- because it hurts so bad!!!!

Oy! I remember having the same happen with my wallet when I was far from home. Searched all day and finally gave up, broken-hearted. I went to climb into bed, and it was under my pillow. Shock, relief, and a big wave of feeling stupid when I remembered putting it there. ;-)
Great that you made it. You two are so kind and nice to each other even in the face of a huge disappointment....no wonder you are so loved by thousands around the world. Hope it is a brilliant trip.
You live such a blessed life. You have amazing kids and my one brother died last year. I have never left the continental u.s. just the idea of being in England its something I can't ever imagine affording. Time to gather your blessings and be grateful
I can only like this video because I know you made it. Seeing how sad you were is hard. That's happened to me, nothing THAT big, but I've gotten all the way to the airport and missed a flight because I forgot my drivers license at home. *ugh /glad you guys actually made it!!!

I know why you were being hard on yourself Megan, there's nothing more frustrating than Hindsight, but you had a lot going on for the York trip, driving on other side of the road with just Andrew, and all the changes of plans with Cambridge and restaurant changes. I'm just glad it all worked out!

I’m so sorry for that stressful day, and happy it all ended up working out. But good on you guys for having copies of your passport! I’ve never heard of anyone having a separate photocopy of their passport with them on their travels. Definitely keeping that nugget of wisdom!

When something like this happens to me or my family I always say, "may this be our biggest struggle in life". So i wishthat this would be your biggest struggle and when you get your passport you'll be able to have an amazing getaway.

I know you did get to go to your tropical paradise and you truly deserved it even more after such a miserable time. I have a lot of respect for you and your family and i'm sorry you're feeling stressed. I didn't realize I was emotionally invested enough in your faraway life to tear up but i empathize so much! i know it's hard being abroad. you're not dumb. you're beautiful and smart and a good mom. I know you know all those things. yourhair is on POINT! you're past the awkward phase. i saw below that apparently there is an update. I hope its a good one.
Oh man! Losing something important is literally the worst feeling ever! This is what happens to me when I am going through a stressful period of my life. I'm glad it still worked out to go on your trip! Traveling is amazing but can definitely have it's challenges. Bless you guys!

I will look and look and look for a lost item, like for YEARS, always wondering what in the world happened to it.... your saga hit so close to home for me...... It looks like you may have gone on your trip but I just want to say how much I admire how both of you handled the lost passport. I know you were going through a lot but you both seemed to keep your cool. God always has a reason even if you never know what it was. Looking forward to part 2!

If I’m not mistaken there is such things called “temporary passport” that the embassy can issue so that you can go back to US to renew it. My sister lost her passport before and that’s why they do for her.
At least I know the route to take if I loose my passport when overseas. Thanks for showing us this.

I cried so hard. Even though I know you went cuz I follow you on Instagram. But that emotional roller coaster with Magen had me all in my feelings. Can’t wait til tomorrow.
Well, it was certainly a down day for you all. But I noticed a glimmer of excitement. What a joy to see all the children pitching in the search, looking under/into/behind everything to help you! To me, that was pretty tasty lemonade (you know, make lemonade when all you have is lemons)! By now, you either found it or got another one. May God grant you all peace and comfort!
That was to painful to watch, even though I knew the ending. We prayed so hard as a family for you! I’m glad it all worked out!
Whenever my family and I travel, I always make it a point to have pictures of our passports and visa stored in online storage just in case.
I think I would have cried watching this had I not known that everything turns out okay. That feeling of looking forward to something for so long and then having it taken away is the worst feeling ever!!!

Thank you for reminding me! We are travelling in less than 3 weeks so I have put our passports in our travel wallet in our suitcase and have set a reminder in my phone to check for them the week before we go.
So at least there is some light in this situation.
Also good to know about copies of passports. Will organise that too just in case.

Since long I had been following your family adventures. I want to thank you for sharing yourselves, your life and your values on your vblogs. Unquestionable, technology offers new ways of interaction and it is up to us how we use these tools.
Myself I moved to Europe in late August of 2000 and since then I had been travelling too. In a different format as you guys :) however we share the passion of constant discovery. So, listening to some of your adventures reminds me of certain moments, of course with a different flavor. For sure more adventures will come to you guys! :) and the most important thing when those adventures imply challenges is how we surf them. So whatever is the outcome of this challenge, you are surfing it and that is life. (Side note: I always lose something, and I can say there is something a unexpected miracle on the way…. Life is always amazing :) )
Now while watching your latest adventure of travelling, I decided to write you this post. I am not so good on this public forum.
I am supporting an European project that focuses on the research on how to improving the system when crossing the Schengen Area. The name of the project is BODEGA. At the moment, the project is looking to listen to travellers’ experience when they cross the borders of the Schengen Area. This is done through a digital survey through a survey bit.ly/BODEGA_Survey.
Because you are crossing the borders constantly, (e.g. in France from USA, or getting to UK from Ireland, now in this fast trip to ….. Need to see the next video :) ), so I thought if you are interested to offer your feedback of your experience. I can assure you all the feedback will be read.

That is the mainly comment (perhaps different as the majority of people here). I know each day we learn something and more in each adventure. And as soon as we are healthy and complete, with our basics cover, so we are on the other side. Keep living your life as intense as you already do.

Oh Megan! I know this is all a thing of the past. But don’t feel BAD! You have 11 peoples passports amongst other things to keep up with. You both do an amazing job of keeping up with everything for all of your beautiful children all while traveling around the world. I think that’s pretty awesome!
My heart was in my throat watching this! I kept thinking one of the kids would run in at the end waving the passport but I was watching the time tick down and I thought noooo, surely that can't be it. Then Mike is on a tropical beach and I had to rewind to check I wasn't imagining that! Can't wait to see the next instalment to find out what happens. I'm tempted to look on Instagram but don't want to spoil the surprise! Love you guys xx

Awe Megan and Mike, I'm so so so sorry for you guys! I was crushed with you as I was watching! I too was hoping in a miracle before the end of the episode, but it didn't happened. You so deserved this getaway! Everyone always says things happen for a reason, but for the life of me I can't imagine what the reason for this would be... however, I have to believe that something else totally unexpected and even better will come out of this, because you need it and you deserve it! You deserve to have some time just for yourselves. This is my heartfelt wish for you. I hope you got to go somewhere with what little time you had left and made the best of it, Egypt is an incredible place and it's nice and hot by the Red Sea during the day. I wish I were rich and powerful and could fix this all for you!

What an awful thing to go through. I'm proud of you both for how you handled it though. It shows us that you're human. Sometimes you both seem like "Super parents" capable of no mistakes. So now I feel so much closer to you guys seeing you go through the same old disappointing stuff I go through.

For future reference, call the consulate rather than embassy. Lost passports are the consulates department. Trust the other fool in the room.
I'm sorry that you lost your passport, Megan, and I hope you get it replaced soon. However, some of that "down" feeling is probably due visiting the UK during the most depressing months of the year. It's miserable! There again, the days are now beginning to lengthen, and Spring feels like it's just around the corner (well, I can't help being an optimist). If you move on, I hope you'll return during a lovely summer.....we do sometimes get them ;-)

I know that things eventually worked out for you. I lost mine once and found it again months after I got a replacement. It was in a place that I thought I had checked several times. I feel your pain.
You and your family are such an inspiration to me. I don't have kids or a husband, but I see that at times I am not the only one who looses things on a trips. I lost a $500 gift card on the first day a vacation and that was all the money I had saved up for food and goodies to bring home

Something like this happened to me. Last May for my 35th birthday we used our unexpected tax return to go to Vegas with my husband and my sister and mother. Well 2 days before we were to leave a lady at a store carded me and said oh your ID expires tomorrow! Well I don't travel ever so of course I freaked out. And thought I couldn't get on the plan if it was expired so I rushed to the dmv to get it renwed well they don't give temp paper ID anymore just a piece of paper with a barcode . I prayed that they wouldn't give me any issues at the airport or at any bars, casinos etc . But I found out that the airport will accept an expired ID as long as it less than a yr expired. An no one bothered me when ordering drinks!
My family (not me!) is notorious for passport mistakes. My stepdad has gotten to the airport TWICE and realized he didn’t have his passport. My mom has gotten to the airport and realized she had my sister’s passport. My mom also booked a flight and then realized the day before that her passport was expired. She delayed her flight a day and had to drive to New Orleans to get a new passport. Things happen and we adapt. Don’t beat yourself up!!

I'm so sorry you had to go through that! watching you struggle to reach the US embassy was hard to watch because as a non us citizen I've gone to hell and back figuring out my visa and dealing with American immigration, its the worst ive ever encountered

Similar thing happened to us except my family was renewing our passports and one of them needed more documents... so when we got it back we didn’t have enough time before our trip to wait so we ended up paying someone to take it to the passport center (can’t remember what it’s called lol) and luckily we had the right paperwork and it got to us within 24 hours... such a pain and stressful with something that you have tried to plan out ahead of time! Can totally relate! Glad you were able to make it!!! :)

I loose things all the time too Meghan so I was right there with you this whole day! And of course the whole trip was on your shoulders and your fault. I always have to step away from what I’ve lost and say a prayer.....doesn’t always make everything better, but many times I’ve cleared my head enough that I come up with a solution.
