I’m just watching this video now, having played the same game only on N64 the Stan Lee commentary is LEGENDARY and I really appreciate how you gave him his flowers before he passed 🙏🏿
I really love this game. The final mission with Monster Ock was genuinely terrifying and him screaming "die!die!die!" Has scarred me to this day lol. I'd love to come back to this game today, I'm sure the mechanics would be a bitch nowadays but the story would be fun. I still have a soft spot for the first movie game, but the larger spiderman/marvel world always felt like a better fit for Spiderman, give me more villains and heroes for him to interact with
"I've been reading comics like my life depends on it, and I'm painfully awaiting for Insomniac's Spider-Man." Me too man, me too. Ultimate Spider-Man for my favorite game.
Watching this in 2021 and this year has been rough so this takes me back to a happier time in my life. Honestly, the first few levels take me back to my childhood
@This Channel is abandoned I mean like the "villain" path is really just spiderman getting together with blackcat and doesn't really add much at all to the story
This is also my favorite Spider-Man game. It's essentially just a couple of days in the life of Spider-Man. And there something so charming and unique about that. Yes the newer games may have smoother gameplay and more flashy cinematics and animations but this one at least in my opinion makes you feel like Spider-Man more than any other game.
Venom is supposed to be a goofy character. Not so serious and “dark” as many people think he is. Remember there’s the spin-off comics where Venom becomes a “hero” in San Francisco.
"wait, now?" "Yes now, we have no choice!" *Yeets himself on the window* That cracks me up for some reason... Edit: 9:50 (I just had to pin the time so I can watch again)
This is honestly what got me into spider-man back in the day. I never played everyone's favourite Spider-Man 2 and none of my friends had ever played or even heard of this game. I'm so happy you made this video.
I personally prefer the more story based games, but Ultimate finds that perfect medium, with a fun city to swing in and a great story, which is why it's my all time favorite, that and it was my first Spidey game so it gets brownie points.
Ultimate' gets very tedious and confusing after a few minutes from not doing storymode and it becomes too strenuous other than that bit its fantastic..
The choice not to include "sorry lady, didn't see a thing!" and "brains, yummy!" in the Venom segment was criminal wtf and yea, this game spanks all other webhead games w/o pants.
this game was my absolute favourite when i was a child, like you said the story telling is just insanely good, cant believe this game is like 15 years old
I was born in '99, so this was a game that my parents got me for the PS1. I know for a fact that I loved this game, and that it was one of the biggest reasons I became a Spider-Man fan, but what's sad is that I was so young, that I can just barely remember playing the game, now... Like, I can remember little bits and pieces of awesomeness (the most common "visions" I have of me playing this game is of some part where you fight Venom in an office building, and I'm not even sure if that's something that actually happened. If it did, someone please let me know, because I think that'd be really cool if I knew it were true). But see what I'm saying? To me, my memory of this game was so blurry, that it was like a damn fever dream... Like a really awesome, beautiful fever dream, that I have trouble remembering... But when I saw this video? Oh, did that shit start rushing back to me... The moment I saw that little foggy abyss that you can fall in, while swinging through the city, I (a 20-year-old, grown-ass man ) felt afraid for some reason... Then, I wondered why... And realized "Oh fuck. That's because I was always super afraid of falling in that abyss as a kid, and it had such an impact on me, that I'm still afraid of it, to this day, even when I barely remember playing the game..." To me, that is just fucking cool... Oh, and the Stan Lee narration? As soon as I heard that, I was just overwhelmed with flashbacks, and good memories... It's really awesome, and I really hope I can play this game again at some point in my life. Maybe I'll get an emulator... But anyways, yeah. I know nobody cares, and I doubt anyone will even see this, since this video was posted months ago, but I just wanted to share this experience.
I was going to say something so similar to what you just said, thanks for posting cuz i can relate to everything that you just said. Except the fact that *i do* remember very well playing this game as a kid, and i sure as hell remember having nightmares with the final boss, Monster Ock. Oh, by the way, my favorite vilain in the entire Marvel universe is Carnage, this game made me afraid of him as a kid, then i grew up to love him with time, and today it is just.... My dream to play as Carnage in a well-developed game. I know that no one cares as well, but i just wanted to add that.
I saw this dude! I think a lot of us view this game with a really warm sepia-tinted nostalgia... and cosmonaut did a good job of explaining why. Well written! :)
@Skull Trooper Gamerz :D No hard feelings buddy, it's actually a good thing that you corrected me. You see, I'm Portuguese, and I learned English while using the internet since I was, like, 11 years old ? Today I'm 18, and somehow, I can put up a conversation with people very easily. BUT, there are STILL some bits and pieces of the Language that I need to learn, so thank you. =] (I actually feel very proud about the fact that I don't even remember when did I learn, you know ? I just payed attention to movies, series, games, people talking, and just the internet in general, and eventually I started understanding things very fast. You probably don't care but It's awesome for me XD)
I played this so much as a kid, I can still quote an unusual amount of its cutscenes and in-game dialogue pretty accurately. God I’ll always have a place for this one in my heart. Spider-Man: “Whoa, you look JUST like me-except you’re a little more ‘angry back-alley’ than ‘friendly neighborhood.” Mysterio as impostor: “Oh, for decades I’ve wanted to shut that mouth of yours! Finally that time is upon me!” *transforms into giant Mysterio*
My favourite was Ultimate Spider-Man. Probably because Ultimate was my favourite iteration of Spidey. But I really liked how they kept to the comic art style and laid it out like a comic a lot. My only complaint about it is that it doesn't have too much to do after the story other than races. But I replayed the story so many times because I loved it that much.
Hiccstrid ghoul there should be unlockable parts. No, screw that. After the game, we should be able to go back and be able to relive past story events. How awesome would that be? Plus, you’d now have something to do other than collecting tokens, completing those insufferable advanced races, and waiting for a thug that can pose anything resembling a threat to come by.
Spoilers for Spider-Man PS4: When you mentioned how Peter analyzes the situation to save as many people as he can, I think of the ending of Spider-Man PS4 when Peter has the choice to save Aunt May or Save the people of New York. The writers at Insomniac really nailed Peter Parker in this game. 10/10.
in 2016 when I was 13 when one of my brother brought a pirated disk of ultimate spiderman for me ....And that was my introduction to the spideman mythos and man oh man what a great game that was .... that's the one I ressonate with the most the chase sequences with johny storm the wolverine vs venom scene silver sable and nick fure scenes ...roof top final bossfight ...enjoyed every second of it ...that's my fav one ....and spider man 2018 is the 2nd best one for me
Big respect for preferring linear levels over open worlds that just put distance between the actual missions. My favorite Spider games are this one and Shattered Dimensions because of this.
I like Ultimate the best. This is a close second and honestly, Spiderman 1 is also close to my heart. Ultimate was the first one to get me 1000% invested in the story. Venom being the main villain, playing as Venom and the creative format of the storytelling kept little kid me up FOR HOURS into the morning playing this thing. It also nailed the Marvel Universe aspect really well.
This game was a really big part of my childhood, and although the gameplay and the story of other spiderman games are great, I loved this game and had so many great memories with it, this was really what got me into spiderman
My personal favorite was always Shattered Dimensions. The variety between the four, not to mention how well it pulled off dramatically different tones between levels (Ultimate goes from the funniest level with Deadpool to the most harrowing level with Carnage in the following act), as well as the spot-on voice actors and interesting twists on classic villains, all won me over. I still want to go back again and beat the levels all over just thinking about it.
The part about Shattered Dimensions I liked the most were the Noir ones. (except when you fight the bosses there, that can be a bit bitchy) The stealth sections are so damn fun to me, Idk why. Wish they could make a whole new Noir Spider-Man game, where it's mostly detective work L.A. Noir style, and stealth takedowns, and such. That would be cool.
I freaking loved the Noir sections. They were such a fun change of pace from the rest of the game. A bit darker and moodier, but slower and more deliberate. Very fun times.
The interaction with mysterio and daredevil will always be my fave. I know insomiac want to make it a peter parker story . But to me peter/spider is fun when he interacts with others not just by himself.
I used to play this game on my friends “nintendo” if u wanna call it that, and i loved it, it was my first time meeting spiderman, and every day in the school bus i took his nintendo thing and played it, i never completed the first level since i would always arrive home from the bus and cant play it anymore, but then i watched the spider man movies and got to know him better, he is the reason i watched marvel and loved it (captain america:civil was) he was the reason i loved comics, he was the reason i met my favorite super villian venom, he was the reason i met my childhood hero, stan lee, may stan lee rest in peace cause he truly was amazing.
This was my favorite Spider-Man game before the PS4 one. I grew up watching the 90's animated series, so when I played the PS1 game, it was like I was playing an episode of that show, and that is still the best representation of Spider-Man on screen, hands down.
Im a major spidey fan. This is one of my favorite games of all time. You perfectly put into words how i feel about this game. I played this game over and over as a kid. And many times over the years. I actually just played through it the other day lol
HeyWilka Marcus kinda disagrees with that in a sense that you can't really put all that much (comic book material) into the movie games since they rarely fit their actual Canon. But I'm interested to know what makes them seem like a comic to you?
I kinda get both points. I think 2 had a lot of cameos in from the comics that didn't exist in the Toby Maguire world. Like fighting Rhino and Mysterio and Shocker. All great memories with that game!
The variety of levels in this game was insane. Solving water puzzles underground, fighting lizards on a train, being chased by a helicopter, crawling up a building while avoiding being shot at, the boss fights, soundtrack, etc. Games back then were just amazing.
This was the game I grew up playing. Now, I have written a Spider-Man Short-Film based on Carnage and Blackcat as characters. This game was all about the story and adventure, and that's exactly what I plan to portray in my Short-Film. Nice Video!
Bored Video Gamer It wasn't just a developer who said this, but the creative director himself who said this, so you already know it's gonna pack in some of the narrative qualities of this game.
Jay 2.0 I can easily say that this Spiderman game will probably be the best, mostly because Insomniac Games puts real passion and effort in majority of their games so I think we are safe to assume this game will be fantastic
Oh man, I remember getting Spider-Man PS1 for my PC and boy did it give me such nostalgia and adrenaline. That game was basically my gateway to the world of video games since I was already a comic book nerd when I was young.
I love Web of Shadows (because of the black suit, the choices and ofc BLACK CAT) but this will always be my all time favorite spidey game (maybe until Insomniac proves me wrong)
I played shattered dimensions and edge of time, and when I first played web of shadows, I was in love. I swung (sorry english isn't my mother tongue) around in the city for 2 hours. I was amazed. He might prefer the linear style, that's okay, but I sure LOVE feeling like spiderman and swinging around the city stoppping crimes. I haven't played any other openworld spiderman games yet, but I love that one. Even the story is great. Sure the voice acting is bad, but after the intro sequence I got used to it and forgot about it. The story has an influence on the gameplay with the black suit. The black one is stronger than the red one. So even if you want to stay good, you still have to keep using the red one. So there's this strong power temptation with the black suit. There's also an issue with Mary Jane. I don't want to spoil any of the choices you make and what happens later in the story, but it's still awsome.
This game was my childhood game. Granted I had it on the N64, so I never really had that much dialogue between the characters as I had to myself. But I would remember playing this game over and over and over again, for some reason it never saved but that was never a problem for me because I would also try to beat the game one sitting. This is also where my love of venom came from as well.

I really love this game. The final mission with Monster Ock was genuinely terrifying and him screaming "die!die!die!" Has scarred me to this day lol. I'd love to come back to this game today, I'm sure the mechanics would be a bitch nowadays but the story would be fun.
I still have a soft spot for the first movie game, but the larger spiderman/marvel world always felt like a better fit for Spiderman, give me more villains and heroes for him to interact with
This game was such a big part of my childhood that i actually teared up a little watching this. I dont have much good going on here in 2020.

Why is it when I see the venom part of this video, and see how goofy he acts, I think of Tom Hardy’s Venom 😂😂
Someone send the dialogue to Sony because Tom Holland and hardy saying these things would be comedy gold
@@joseruiz3160 or just remaster the game. I'd get it and I haven't had a Playstation for nearly a decade.
Venom is supposed to be a goofy character. Not so serious and “dark” as many people think he is. Remember there’s the spin-off comics where Venom becomes a “hero” in San Francisco.

Nothing wrong with it. I just disliked it because it was just boss fight, race to the next area. Boss fight.
Ultimate' gets very tedious and confusing after a few minutes from not doing storymode and it becomes too strenuous other than that bit its fantastic..
The glass shattering sound in this game is just iconic!
You had no reason to explore in Spider-Man 2?!
Then who? Who I ask you! Will return that poor child's balloon? WHO?!

yea but theres absolutely no reason to go and get those?
The choice not to include "sorry lady, didn't see a thing!" and "brains, yummy!" in the Venom segment was criminal wtf

My fav was Ultimate but now its def the PS4 one
Ultimate was my favorite too, is the 2018 game similar at all?
@@Kimura1313 its way better the 2018 one and the ps1 games are my favortite
I liked Venom in ultimate a lot
Todd Ingram no? For what
Todd Ingram oh no you must have misunderstood me I said the ps4 one is better than ultimate sorry 😐 if I didn’t make that clear enough
this game was my absolute favourite when i was a child, like you said the story telling is just insanely good, cant believe this game is like 15 years old
I was born in '99, so this was a game that my parents got me for the PS1.
I agree with all of this man it’s such a good game.
I was born in 97 so I never played a Spider-man game until this year at the age 21.
@Skull Trooper Gamerz :D
No hard feelings buddy, it's actually a good thing that you corrected me. You see, I'm Portuguese, and I learned English while using the internet since I was, like, 11 years old ? Today I'm 18, and somehow, I can put up a conversation with people very easily. BUT, there are STILL some bits and pieces of the Language that I need to learn, so thank you. =]
(I actually feel very proud about the fact that I don't even remember when did I learn, you know ? I just payed attention to movies, series, games, people talking, and just the internet in general, and eventually I started understanding things very fast. You probably don't care but It's awesome for me XD)
I played this so much as a kid, I can still quote an unusual amount of its cutscenes and in-game dialogue pretty accurately. God I’ll always have a place for this one in my heart.
Spider-Man: “Whoa, you look JUST like me-except you’re a little more ‘angry back-alley’ than ‘friendly neighborhood.”
Mysterio as impostor: “Oh, for decades I’ve wanted to shut that mouth of yours!
Hiccstrid ghoul I know what you mean, beat that game like a hundred times, I loved it.
Not much to do you can literally play and rampage the city as Venom thats way better than some stupid repetitive mini missions
Bulgarian Memes and rampaging through the city, fighting the cops and jumping good doesn’t get repetitive after a while? I’d say it does.
The venom in ultimate Spiderman is my favorite venom ever. That jump he did when you pressed R2 was maaad
Since Stan Lee sadly passed away 6 year's, I'm surprised Marcus didn't make a tribute video about him.
Spoilers for Spider-Man PS4:
When you mentioned how Peter analyzes the situation to save as many people as he can, I think of the ending of Spider-Man PS4 when Peter has the choice to save Aunt May or Save the people of New York. The writers at Insomniac really nailed Peter Parker in this game. 10/10.
MemeyLoaf when I was at that part I immediately thought of this.
SAME! I was like "Marcus (and the rest of the fanbase) have gotten what they wanted!"
I appreciate you warned of spoilers

Well I guess it's time to listen to the narration again...RIP Stan Lee
Big respect for preferring linear levels over open worlds that just put distance between the actual missions. My favorite Spider games are this one and Shattered Dimensions because of this.
I like Ultimate the best. This is a close second and honestly, Spiderman 1 is also close to my heart. Ultimate was the first one to get me 1000% invested in the story. Venom being the main villain, playing as Venom and the creative format of the storytelling kept little kid me up FOR HOURS into the morning playing this thing. It also nailed the Marvel Universe aspect really well.
This game was a really big part of my childhood, and although the gameplay and the story of other spiderman games are great, I loved this game and had so many great memories with it, this was really what got me into spiderman
spider-man's only weakness is a flyswatter
Tim S ant man’s*
Tim S........*breathes in* B O I
nah, he preys on flies. His weakness is a rolled up newspaper
Agreed, but a really big newspaper of a giant boot is a close second.
I LOVED edge of time
@@bintavi7034 never got got a chance to play it
The part about Shattered Dimensions I liked the most were the Noir ones. (except when you fight the bosses there, that can be a bit bitchy)
The stealth sections are so damn fun to me, Idk why.
Charlie Griffin shattered dimensions was a good game but I felt like it was a little repetitive in terms of combat
You said when Stan Lee dies. I think you meant to say if Stan Lee dies because I’m not too sure if he will anytime in your lifetime.
Steve Ditko > Stan Lee
Ha
Stan lee will live forever
Stan Lee was found at his house today he died of heart failure.
FAllEn OnE where did you hear that.
Between Spider-Man PS4 and its sequel, they should remake this game and Enter Electro in a dual pack
Rest in piece Steve ditko
This was my favorite Spider-Man game before the PS4 one. I grew up watching the 90's animated series, so when I played the PS1 game, it was like I was playing an episode of that show, and that is still the best representation of Spider-Man on screen, hands down.
Im a major spidey fan. This is one of my favorite games of all time. You perfectly put into words how i feel about this game. I played this game over and over as a kid. And many times over the years. I actually just played through it the other day lol
1:56 The real reason this is the best Spidey game.

Can't forget about 11:52
Peter's one lucky son of a bitch.
DaFunkyHorse420 Two big, bouncing, beautiful reasons.
I do love geometry.
Spider-Man 1 and 2 are the best Spider-Man Games for me. Like you said it´s like a comic book.
2 was so fun. The controls and fighting were the best. You could.... string... together so many combos!

I hope Insomniac use this game as a huge influence when making Spider-Man PS4.
Jay 2.0 one of the developers said the ps1 game is his favorite
you hope that they use the game as an influence? when it's already developed and is just waiting for the September release?
Bored Video Gamer It wasn't just a developer who said this, but the creative director himself who said this, so you already know it's gonna pack in some of the narrative qualities of this game.
Jay 2.0 I can easily say that this Spiderman game will probably be the best, mostly because Insomniac Games puts real passion and effort in majority of their games so I think we are safe to assume this game will be fantastic
Jay 2.0 With Spiderman looking like a generic skinny little bitch, I don't think so.
@@jean-simonplourde9446 Except the red suit is more precise and actually carries more power if you upgrade it completely
@@noahdavis7406 that's the whole point bro, the black one is easier to use. But the red one with hard work could be better
@@sebastiandelgado2525 What hard work? The game is so easy that you'd have to force yourself to die in it.
