I'll never forget beating Spiderman 2002 and unlocking the ability to play the game over as the green goblin with a new story and voice overs. Quite an experience.

Watching this in 2021 and this year has been rough so this takes me back to a happier time in my life. Honestly, the first few levels take me back to my childhood
This was the first game I’ve ever played in my life (I played this when I was 4) and I think I’ve played it at least 10 times. This was by far the best ps1 game i ever played and if my ps1 still worked I’ll be playing the game to this day. Also the carnage boss fight was easy when you used the venom suit since you had unlimited webs and could just trap him the sonic sound.

This game was my childhood, it’s what introduced me into Spider-Man and made him my top 2 favorite comic characters. I also lost my memory card but I didn’t progress after the Venom chase for years until I spent an entire weekend finishing it. I also played Friend of Foe a lot but I haven’t revisited that.
I played this so much as a kid, I can still quote an unusual amount of its cutscenes and in-game dialogue pretty accurately. God I’ll always have a place for this one in my heart.
Spider-Man: “Whoa, you look JUST like me-except you’re a little more ‘angry back-alley’ than ‘friendly neighborhood.”
Mysterio as impostor: “Oh, for decades I’ve wanted to shut that mouth of yours! Finally that time is upon me!” *transforms into giant Mysterio*
I love Web of Shadows (because of the black suit, the choices and ofc BLACK CAT) but this will always be my all time favorite spidey game (maybe until Insomniac proves me wrong)
I played shattered dimensions and edge of time, and when I first played web of shadows, I was in love. I swung (sorry english isn't my mother tongue) around in the city for 2 hours. I was amazed. He might prefer the linear style, that's okay, but I sure LOVE feeling like spiderman and swinging around the city stoppping crimes. I haven't played any other openworld spiderman games yet, but I love that one. Even the story is great. Sure the voice acting is bad, but after the intro sequence I got used to it and forgot about it. The story has an influence on the gameplay with the black suit. The black one is stronger than the red one. So even if you want to stay good, you still have to keep using the red one. So there's this strong power temptation with the black suit. There's also an issue with Mary Jane. I don't want to spoil any of the choices you make and what happens later in the story, but it's still awsome.

I understand why you prefer Spidey games that just jump into the action, but for me, it's all about BEING Spiderman, that's why I love these open world games, you can just laid back and swing around, that of course only if the swinging is actually good like in Ultimate and Spiderman 2. However between those two my absolute favorite has to go to Ultimate, the racing is so much fun and the Marvel cameos are just the right amount to make the world feel bigger without taking you out of the Spidey universe, playing as Venom is also a nice bonus imo.

I like this game. But actually on the Dreamcast. It’s lesser known that they did a Dreamcast port of this game and it’s actually perfect. It’s the exact same game but with better graphics.
blacklite911 It also has more glitches and the cutscenes are fucked up for some reason compared to the PS1 version, so there's that. It's also darker. Way darker.

First Spider-Man game I ever played was actually this game's sequel, Enter Electro...granted it was a demo on one of those old PSU Jampack Discs. I played the ever living hell out of that demo as a kid, but never got the full game until WAAAY later (still haven't beaten it, but I did make it through the first).

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 was my first introduction to Spiderman (you could unlock him as a bonus skater), but I played this game shortly after to learn more about him. Both games also had similar costumes. I don't think any other instalment did so much to cement him as my favorite superhero.
The first ever video game I played was Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro at a very young age. My ma told me about it cuz she got me my first console and game. I remember not being able to clear the airplane level for a V E R Y long time. Maybe it was too much for me back then. I love Spider-Man tho and I eventually cleared the level and when I first got passed it and all those new missions unlocked, I remember being blown away. Sandman, the helicopter chase, trainyard, Hammerhead, Lizard, Electro. MAN! I played Spider-Man after that and since then have played every Spidey game till now excluding friend or foe
PS1 and Ultimate Spider-Man are my favorites for the use of the greater Marvel Universe and (in PS1) the levels/story
At first I didn’t have a memory card either so I did the same thing trying to beat the whole game in one run
That’s by far the most fun I’ve had with a Spidey game
Bobart Fettuccine Ultimate spider-man was actually the best. It was so fun with so many villians. Also playing as venom was just a joy.
This game was such a huge part of my childhood. It was the first game I was able to beat (I wasn’t that good a player at age 11, ok 😆), and it was my introduction to Spidey and comic book superheroes in general. I was glad to progress to the open-world games (favorites are SM2 and Ultimate Spider-Man, I give some credit to Web of Shadows, but still haven’t gotten to play the PS4 game yet), but none of those would exist without this game as a first step. Thank you for reminding me how amazing it was!

I liked Shattered Dimensions and Web Of Shadows okay enough, and this one looks pretty cool (Buddy Cop Venom, What's A Mysterio, seriously, how does that even work), but Spiderman: Arkham 2.0 looks awesome as hell.

I don't play EOT but watched it story, and it seems really good. I like Peter and Miguel's interactions, voice acting is top notch, well written dialogs, and the plot twitst is really something. Maybe the mixed reception came from the gameplay being too similar to SD and not really fun.

Except none of those games did the Arkham combat. They had a dodge/counter button, that's it. If you think that's all it takes to make "Arkham" combat.. well, it isn't.

Web of shadows its unintentionally funny dialogue and fun af combat and bosses is what made it my favourite

Holy shit let me tell you about the game Spiderman: the movie. That shit was so cool. It had awesome combat interesting and varied missions and it had cheat codes that let you play as multiple characters. You could play as Green Goblin and he has an ENTIRELY different move set. Also my favorite thing to do was to load up the infinite boxing ring mode and just womp on waves and waves of enemy's. That game was the shit.

My copy of Spider-Man 1 for PS1 stopped working, so I never got around to beating it. My copy of Enter Electro, on the other hand, should probably work even today lol I beat that game so many times as a kid - loved every moment of it (except maybe the climb up to face Electro at the end).

shattered dimensions and while you thought the dialogue was bad growing up with it just makes me laugh and it always makes me smile when i hear somebody else played that game it makes me smile because i can bet they never beat the game either
I always played the heck out of this game as a kid, although my copy was scratched to the point that none of the cutscenes would play smoothly, so I never got any of the story, but it probably would have skyrocketed my love for Spider-Man, I probably would also love Venom more knowing he was a big goofball. I was also terrified of it and never beat it, one, because of the symbiote level and the final fight, and two, I also didn't have a memory card, so I just used the cheat codes to play the later levels.
I think this type of Spider-Man game has a different audience that enjoys it to the ones that demand the open world, web-slinging simulator, so it would be hard to make another one like it nowadays, without it having two sided reviews. I do think the point of having him go through unique situations in levels to avoid stale dialogue is smart, I just feel dead inside when I hear him use the same quip for the 110th time.

I remember I used to give up a lot. As a kid it was too stressful and scary so I couldn’t keep my cool, not to mention the clunky controls. The day I faced it with courage and actually beat it, I could hardly believe it. Was a good and memorable day.
I would like to remind everyone that the chase at the end with Monster Ock was the most stressful and scariest shit that I had to endure as a kid.
Carnage Ock is the reason why I suffer from an anxiety disorder.

I never played this game as a kid but my friend did and I remember coming over to his house one time and that scene was on with Venom saying "SURF THE WEB". It's the only line from the game I know and when I saw it I immediately thought IT'S THE SURF THE WEB SCENE I REMEMBER THAT! I'll never forget that scene it seems.

PS1 was my favorite. And you hit the nail on the head about Venom in the game. It was really interesting seeing Venom try to help Eddie after the fake Spiderman broke his camera.
Even one of his quotes early in the game was "Rest easy Brock, Venom is here." I like seeing Venom being a monster, but I like the characterization moments for him a lot more.

Yes, and even venom having a silly side makes him kind of more threatening. Like it really looks like someone that is loosing his mind, even when he is trying to do good. Not just acting like your stereotypical evil psycopath. His corrupted mind makes him almost like a killer child, and i think thats far more interesting than just a plain monster

I really love this game. The final mission with Monster Ock was genuinely terrifying and him screaming "die!die!die!" Has scarred me to this day lol. I'd love to come back to this game today, I'm sure the mechanics would be a bitch nowadays but the story would be fun.
