The problem is not the lack of Spider-Man, since Venom has had solo series (pretty sure he is the only Spider-Man villain that has ever accomplished a solo series) and a lot of material from 30 years of history to make a movie centred only on him. The problem is how badly executed the story is going to be. The trailer alone has bad jokes, bad acting and very weird direction. I can't wait to see how Sony screws up my favourite comic villain of all time.
I considered the Batman Arkham games my favorites until I played this game. I never understood why so many people liked Spider-Man so much before I played this game. The one thing this game does better than Arkham is that the city feels alive! Insomniac could've just added random npc's and called it a day, but there's such a variety of interactions from some fangirling over seeing spiderman to shit talkers who listen to JJJ podcasts to people trying to take a picture of you, even people coming up to high five you. And unlike how GTA IV sometimes was conservative, this New York City is *packed* with so many people everywhere in the city. Also the attention to detail in the city with real landmarks as well as making each section of the map feel completely different than just "the buildings look different", makes this one of the best open worlds in gaming.
To be fair, GTA IV was in developement over a decade ago, 'doubtful they had the tech to have that many entities occupy the same space and have it run on the old platforms.
For the most part, I agree. However, I do think that the Arkham games did make the enemies you fight feel much more fleshed out. In this game, the normal goons don't really say or do much that is really interesting. It was kind of done at points, but never got funny or intriguing enough to listen to. In games like Arkham City however, they felt like real people. They laughed when they talked shit to each other. They would talk about the most random shit just to kill time. They got terrified of you after taking out every last bad guy in the room and actually panic by shooting bullets randomly in the air. It felt so....... human. The interactions with the criminals were actually one of my favorite parts of those games. But in terms of world design, this game destroys everything else. The detail in this game makes GTA V looking like fucking shit in comparison.
@@Odinsday absolutely! My favorite moments are when it's the last two guys and right after you took out the third, one says "hey, come over here, this guy is knocked out" and the other guy says "Screw that, every man for themselves!"
The game definitely does feel alive because of the environment. (Birds, Squirrels interacting with citizens) and the game feels kinda heartwarming because of MJ, Miles and Aunt May
Bruh i know im late to this comment but like how do you even have fun in a game if you can just plow through it without even thinking about it. One of my favourite parts of games is thinking up how to string combos together so I wont die and i look cool at the same time.

That’s kinda the reason I liked them to but kinda for a different reason in those missions when we slow down we get a lot of interesting backstory and details if you explore a little and to me it was a nice breather. It probably also helps that I have barely played games with stealth so to me it was fun.
I didn't mind the Stealth missions using MJ and Miles. I actually thought it was pretty cool to be on the skin of a regular human feeling the thread of the enemies that you don't really feel when you are controlling spiderman. I agree they are not as fun as spiderman levels, but come on, being spiderman in this game is just way too fucking amazing
I agree, it adds a different pacing that honestly after a few hours was a welcone change for me personally, it made the world feel more real to play as some more vulnerable the Spiderman.
it's not "whack". It's a Spider-Man game, not a stealth game. So, imho, it's completely valid to complain about those only halfway interesting stealth segments where you don't play Spider-man. if it'd been a case of Spider-Man having to take out opponents while not alerting the others, I think they'd have fit far more well to the game. That way it would've still been a change of gameplay (you can't go in "all guns blazing" style but would have to plan it more carefully), but it'd still be more in tune with the rest of the game.
undertakernumberone1 gotta disagree with you, although the stealth with MJ and Miles could have been improved, it's a good technique in game design to take away the things that are familiar and put you in a situation where you can't do what you usually do. a good example of this would be playing Ellie in The Last of Us, it takes away the familiarity of playing as Joel who has all these guns and equipment, and puts you in the prospective of someone who is physically weaker and doesn't have as many weapons, it provides the player to think a bit differently stealth with MJ could have been improved, but it certainly makes you appreciate spiderman's abilities and I think that's one of the reasons why these stealth parts are in there
Why is no one mentioning when miles had to had from rhino that was fucking amazing ( reminded me of the bane fight from Arkham origins which definitely the best part of that game ).
I... I don't get it. It seems like it should go into the category of video essays that you turn off after 20 seconds because you feel you're going to go to sleep as it sounds really drone like. But somehow, and I dunno how this magic works, I don't want to sleep, and I don't understand why
I loved the stealth/ other character missions Specially when your in Harry’s house where your roaming around and with the narration it builds the history and backstory of them as friends and “how peter loved watching a movie on that TV” in a way it lets you create memories in your mind which involves you in the game to a next level.
And the MJ mission talks about how Peter was slashed open with the sword in the kingpin auction house the first time they fought. And just going through all the backpack items gives you a huge history lesson about this universes Spider-Man
My favorite boss fights were probably the Electro/Vulture and Rhino/Scorpion battles. Loved how you had to fight two of them at once, and how you could use them against each other. That's classic Spider-Man and very well designed by Insomniac. Hope they bring more of this to future games. Imagine fighting a full Sinister Six
gonna stop you right here. The doc ock mission was easily the best boss fight simply for the story build up and how they finished it off. The gameplay was fun, but the story was some next level shit
In terms of gameplay, the 2v1’s are probably the best, in terms of story, Otto is definitely the best. But my favourite fights are probably Taskmaster and Mr. Negative 2. Taskmaster because he’ll fight you anywhere, and the battle might not end in the same place it started. Mr. Negative 2 because you’ve been fighting the Demons throughout the entire game, so it feels really rewarding to finally take down their boss. Also the fight just has so much going on visually.
6:07 As for the criticism about there being only one chase sequence, which is against Shocker and you never do it again in the whole game. You actually do when you're chasing Electro through the prison. And another one when you chase the helicopter that's wrecking the city. You even have a clip for it at 7:51
“Spider-Man. This is why only fools are heroes - because you never know when some lunatic will come along with a sadistic choice. Let die the woman you love... or suffer the little children. Make your choice, Spider-Man, and see how a hero is rewarded.” Green Goblin 2018
Hear me and rejoice! You have had the privilege of being reviewed by the Great Cosmonaut. You may think this is suffering. No... it is salvation. The universal scales tip toward balance because of your story and gameplay. Smile... for even in stealth missions, you have become 8/10 by Marcus.
I agree with you about this spiderman being the best representation of the character in any media (except comics) by far. This game made me remember why Spiderman was my favorite hero when I was a kid and it renewed my love for the character. You really feel like spiderman in this game, you get the awesome part of being him but also the difficult part. It's great! Solid 9/10 for me!
Another thing I love is how much he is depicted as a New Yorker. When he is finding his clothes, he and “Eddie” talk about which pizza places are where. And when he accepts the side missions about the students in a riot, he knows exactly where each picture was taken
"No more spider man videos, leave me alone" _Playstation alongside Insomniac announce Miles Morales standalone_ "All right guys now I know I said...I was done with spider man videos"
I think the portions where you play as MJ or Miles definitely could have been done better, especially if the point was to do the whole "bag of spilling" trope to artificially bump up difficulty and change up game play mechanics, which I think is totally necessary - if busting into a room and beating everyone up is the solution to every situation, it would get old. But like I said, they could have been done a little more cleverly. I feel like they just didn't want to write in a way for Peter to temporarily lose his powers because that would be too trope-y, but they could have put him into a situation where he still has his powers but cannot USE them overtly lest he reveal his secret identity. Being forced to sneak around and not use powers but knowing that you HAVE that power would be anxiety inducing, especially if the Demons were beating people up. And then move into a stealth portion where Peter has to take down the Demons without being spotted by them or by civilians, because he can't change into his costume, so Peter wouldn't be able to just jump around and cling to walls - it would play not all that different from the final two MJ missions, but you'd still be playing as Peter so I think it would be more satisfying. But overall I agree - the problems I have with this game are not enough to stop me from loving it. I'll shower the game in praise and ignore the things I don't like, because as you said, the game made me feel good. Spiderman is a virtuous character, the world is bright and not oppressive like in the Arkham games, there's no internal conflict like in the inFAMOUS games, you're just a straight up superhero who does good things for his city and sometimes that's all you need.
Also those kinds of puzzles are famously divisive, so they put an optional skip button for people who would otherwise say the game is shit because it has unskippable puzzles.
That Miles part where you are trying to escape the Rhino actually scared the shit out of me. Even though I knew how simple it technically was, my heart was still racing whenever I sneakily ran to the next hiding spot.
Appreciate seeing somebody else saying that lol none of my mates have a clue who alex jones is so was the only one making those kinda comparisons at the time lol
never have i cried over a video game till this one, it got everything right. Though i found the Taskmaster challenges frustrating if you're going for gold.
I liked them BECAUSE they were challenging. I set myself the goal of getting max in every base and chellenge, and they genuinely took me some time. But that was what I liked, it truly showed how much better you were getting the more you played. The screwball challenges are just flat out horrible though.
i never experienced any of those negatives with the non spider-man segments but that's just what i experienced personally. like, the puzzles and stealth didn't drop my personal rating on the score because i surprisingly liked them. but that's it.
Shadow_Reaper428 I liked the change of passing. People disliked the original God of War puzzles for the same reason as the non Spider-Man missions, but both share the same purpose to break up the gameplay. But I do agree that I believe Insomniac can figure out a better way to have these types of missions being engaging to play.
Shadow_Reaper428 I only didn’t like the puzzles. I really loved the stealth sections with Miles and Mary Jane but that’s probably because I love both characters.
One thing that felt awkward about the story was Mr Negative. I feel like he should have been kept for the sequel since it seems to be focusing on Miles and building up Green Goblin. The way the story played out, Miles doesn’t have any connection to GG and ends up more connected to Li so it would’ve been cool to see The demons doing stuff in the background and Li taking a backseat biding his time (it felt like he got involved in person super early and kinda for no reason besides maybe seeing Norman get hurt). But yea that’s just what I think
Video game person , its okay I have read it and I HATE IT. Its literally the one thing that comics fans no matter their tastes can all agree on. If that doesn't say everything that needs to be said, I don't know what does. lol
Another good combo for the fastest way to finish the crimes in each district is using the spider drones and anti ock gadget regen ability. Just send out like 10 drones and you'll be done in less than 20 seconds lmao
my one *other* nitpick is about the (spider-man) stealth/base segments. I don't like how you can't keep doing the stealthy "pick em off one by one" type combat after you take out the first stage of villains, after that the villains just walk in and are like "there he is". But the combat is so good it's basically not even a bad thing because it makes you improvise and stay on your feet.
A lot of people seem to miss this: the option to skip the puzzle levels is an accessibility thing. Of course the developers want you to do them, but they're thinking about other kinds of people, very much like how they have auto-complete QTEs. It's not for us.
I'll be honest, in Bioshock, the hacking minigames were some of my favorite parts. I'd purposefully waste time making the most complex solutions possible. They were fun.
I don't think that's a good logic to follow along with. I mean, why not just make the puzzles more interesting to play rather than just making them skippable? If we're gonna say, "You can skip it," then why not apply that logic to the whole game? "Hey, I hate all of the stealth in this game. Let me just skip it." "I don't want to fight this boss. Let's skip it." "Maybe, I'll just skip the whole game." Just feels like a cop out answer to me. I mean the devs really should just make it more engaging or not include it at all. That's the entire point of a game; to be engaging, fun and challenging. I also don't buy the "other types of people" justification either. There is no game in existence that will appeal to everyone. You have to pick your audience you want to appeal to, design your game around that audience and the mechanics you choose to implement. They clearly wanted to inject stealth into this game, for example, but not everyone likes stealth games and many Spider-Man games in the past didn't have much or any stealth in them whatsoever. What about those players? Should we just put a "can't be bothered" button in there for them too?
I bought a PS4 specifically for this game. It did not disappoint. Glad to see someone who is a heavy comic reader enjoy it as well. One point about the writing that I would like to make: is that it works incredibly well even if you don't know anything about / only some parts of the story. For example: I didn't know Negative Mans real name, so when it was revealed to me in the story that he was who he is, it was shocking. However for my girlfriend, who did know, she enjoyed watching the rise of the villain. The mentor that Peter works with also has an amazing story arc. I also really like how Spider Man is indirectly responsible for every event that causes the city to 'fall', if you will. Being the character who sets these events in motion, even though he was only doing what was right, is a really fantastic way to engage the player in the character they're in control of. I loved this game. Again, really happy to hear that you did to. Keep up the great work, Cosmonaut!
I disagree about the Non-Spiderman sections. They give you a broader perspective of the World and plot. The Stealth shouldnt be too intricate. Have you ever played the 2003 Hulk game? Now THOSE Stealth Banner levels grind the game to a hault. The MJ levels were just...meh. But not bad. The Miles Levels were amazing.
I just wanted to say that, you're an amazing content creator and I'm surprised I haven't seen your channel before. That's all, everyone have a nice day.
Personally I think Miles was just there to set up the next game cause none of his missions really progressed the story. He could have been written out and nothing would have changed.
I also noticed, all the dialogue for peter that plays when in the open world, has 2 recordings, 1 when is stationary or relaxed, and one in action; like fighting or swinging. One dialogue is calm and quite, while the other one is loud and energetic. These small quirks really brings the game to life
This game does right, exactly the way The Arkham games do right...they make you feel like you're the superhero you're playing as. It didn't try to copy the arkham formula, like the Amazing spiderman games tried to do last gen. It didn't try to rely on the name brand like several other spiderman games(and countless superhero games in general).
@@honor6200 yeah, but you have to repeat the entire story to replay the mission you want. We really want the option to just replay one specific mission.

@ahsan nawab I thought the pacing was great except in a few parts, I dont have a problem with the pacing in the main story. Pacing in side missions is terrible but that's less important, but I still hope they fix that in the sequel, whenever that comes out. As for the M.J missions, I'd say their worse than people shape it out to be, in my opinion they're the third biggest weakness of the game, after Screwball and the side missions. Edit: in my opinion of course
Justin ™ yeah absolutely man. If we aren’t gonna have the exact kind of super hero movies we want with the problem that these companies hold the licenses to their characters than make games about em while remaining loyal to the source material
I agree with you in a large part but in my opinion a Superman game in particular could never really be done right. How do you make a compelling videogame about a guy who literally is indestructible? That's not me being condescending, that's a solid question.
Justin ™ I desperately require a Daredevil, Hulk, Dr. Strange, or Iron Fist game in this universe. And in a new DC universe, I would want Flash, Green Lantern, and Superman game.
This game is just amazing. One of my favorite things is that you can play in any suit you want for the grand majority of the game. I like the new suit design, but it was brilliant of Insomniac to allow players the option to keep the original classic suit.
The gameplay was quite boring, but I didn't mind getting to see the story a bit more. The story for the game was tear-jerking and I fucking loved every minute of it.
I was never a Spider-Man fan. I read one comic once as a child (I was 7 or 8), watched some episodes of the 1994 cartoon and saw the Sam Raime movies because my older brother wanted to see them. After that I never had any interest in Spider-Man. But when this game was released and everybody and their grandma said how amazing it is, I wanted to play it. Not because it was Spider-Man, but because it was a great game. And I loved it. I loved every second I played that game. To fully understand it I searched the internet for every detail I needed. On the villians, on Peter, and all the characters in the game. Sure, I don't have the insight a real fan has, but it is enough to appreciate the world and the inhabitants of this world. And the story is so good. During the final boss fight I cried the whole time. It was heart breaking. I give this game a 9/10 and can't wait for the next one. P.S.: I liked Prototype a lot and really thought it was a good idea to copy some of the ideas and the gameplay. It really worked out.
And so ends the Cosmonaut Spider-Review universe, for now anyways. We've had some good movies some really bad ones, even some we thought were good weren't perfect, Some old games, some live streams. And to end it? The perfect Spidey game. Excelsior!

"Why the Venom movie could've used more Spider-man"
xD I have a feeling this is going to be true.... because its a REAL issue
Only if they could..
I'm guessing it's going to need more Venom. They paid for Tom Hardy, so Tom Hardy is going to be in the most scenes.

To me, he was just kind of a B-list superhero. Then I played this. Now it's easily in my top three games ever made, and it helped me understand why so many people love Spider-Man so much.
@@username1660 I brought up gta iv because it's also in new york. Even in Gta v, the main city isn't as packed at times.

That’s kinda the reason I liked them to but kinda for a different reason in those missions when we slow down we get a lot of interesting backstory and details if you explore a little and to me it was a nice breather. It probably also helps that I have barely played games with stealth so to me it was fun.

I agree they are not as fun as spiderman levels, but come on, being spiderman in this game is just way too fucking amazing
Jefstito
Same I had no problem playing as Miles and MJ saying it’s boring because it isn’t Spider-Man is whack
That way it would've still been a change of gameplay (you can't go in "all guns blazing" style but would have to plan it more carefully), but it'd still be more in tune with the rest of the game.
undertakernumberone1 gotta disagree with you, although the stealth with MJ and Miles could have been improved, it's a good technique in game design to take away the things that are familiar and put you in a situation where you can't do what you usually do.
a good example of this would be playing Ellie in The Last of Us, it takes away the familiarity of playing as Joel who has all these guns and equipment, and puts you in the prospective of someone who is physically weaker and doesn't have as many weapons, it provides the player to think a bit differently
stealth with MJ could have been improved, but it certainly makes you appreciate spiderman's abilities and I think that's one of the reasons why these stealth parts are in there
Why is no one mentioning when miles had to had from rhino that was fucking amazing ( reminded me of the bane fight from Arkham origins which definitely the best part of that game ).

Rhino/Scorpion was definitely my favorite fight
gonna stop you right here. The doc ock mission was easily the best boss fight simply for the story build up and how they finished it off. The gameplay was fun, but the story was some next level shit
@@Ethan-hi8jq In terms of narrative, probably yes. But in terms of gameplay I think those 2v1 battles were more interesting
Those boss fights were wayy too easy

I totally agree but man would I love to see a dark, mature Spider-Man game

my one *other* nitpick is about the (spider-man) stealth/base segments.
CaptainThunderWolf idk. I liked the puzzles.
Should we just put a "can't be bothered" button in there for them too?
i liked the puzzles tho :
People expect a zachtronics puzzle game inside of an open world spider-man game. lol

The stealth with Miles hiding and running from Rhino was freaking amazing so intense
Tim Xman oh yeah that was awesome.
I imagine that Marcus will just turn into Jameson, and all this Spider-Man stuff will be part of his origin story.
Even sooner than that, Venom comes out. Into the Spider-Verse comes out. Makes video on both
Well he is obviously going
To make videos on those because of money
Ramen Edits ah I see. Someone who takes jokes seriously. 👏🏻
Im actually liking the Spiderman vids. There the best videos you ever make. Keep it up!
Me personally a 10/10
I’d agree with a 9.5/10 nothing below
i think a 8-8.50 is fair, the majority of the side objectives (not side quests) were kinda repetitive and grindy
yeah but the other games had pizza delivery.
9/10
not 10/10 because of screwball
It's an 8/10. The story and gameplay are great, but pacing, side missions, and most of the MJ missions are bad, so it gets an 8.
I love the game but it has its flaws, and you cant give a 10/10 to game with flaws like these.
By far the best Spiderman PS4 review I've seen good job
Hope the success of this game means more comic book games, fingers crossed for that superman game from the arkham devs
Justin ™ yeah absolutely man. If we aren’t gonna have the exact kind of super hero movies we want with the problem that these companies hold the licenses to their characters than make games about em while remaining loyal to the source material
Justin ™ I heard ubisoft is working in Avenger's videogame
Justin ™ I would love a dare devil game also
I agree with you in a large part but in my opinion a Superman game in particular could never really be done right.
After unlocking all the suits, that's become half of the fun is just constantly changing which look Spiderman has.
I also love that the cutscenes will use the suit you chose.
I hated playing as MJ
Black SideKick same but the bank mission was good I guess
The gameplay was quite boring, but I didn't mind getting to see the story a bit more. The story for the game was tear-jerking and I fucking loved every minute of it.
As soon as I got the taser it got a bit fun. I found myself ignoring the objective just to use it on people.
Same the biker mission is hard as fuck
(Ik you posted this a while ago) At first I loved it but doing a new game made it frustrating to do it all over again
I like how the constant vocal fry makes him sound more snarky....
Amazing combat. Best Spider-Man movie. Best story. Best peter parker movie. Best voice-acting.
PERFECTION!
Alright man thank you ! I thought you wouldn’t make a video on it. I’m glad you’d changed your mind.
I was spoiled as to what would happen in this game, yet i still cried a bit at the end. Thats how good this game is
Blows all live action adaptations out the window.
This iteration of Spiderman and this world is easily becoming my favorite in all the characters mediums 💙
1:16 “the amount of unique animations is amazing”

Wait till Spider-Man 2 releases.
Bro who has platinum on this game
Spiderman 2 is gonna have 100 different animations for one frame
It really makes you feel like Spider-Man
10:41 I don’t know why, but it was super satisfying the way he said that.
Yuri Lowenthal really FEELS like spider-man.
I burst out laughing when the terrorists in bomb vests started glowing bright blue
“Nice entrench solid 8/10” ZAP “9/10”
Spider-man meets silver sable
9:27 what were those hilarious adjectives I misheard you apply to New Yorkers?
I feel like i'm the one person in the world who enjoys the puzzles.
And so ends the Cosmonaut Spider-Review universe, for now anyways. We've had some good movies some really bad ones, even some we thought were good weren't perfect, Some old games, some live streams. And to end it? The perfect Spidey game. Excelsior!
