- This week we battle the elements and I cruise my narrowboat in strong winds to make it to Huddlesford Heritgage gathering where I trade as The Pirate Boat. I love a canal festival as there are so many boat traders, land stalls, boat trips, historic boats and live music.
I'm asked many times how I fund my off grid lifestyle and trading from my Narrowboat as a Roving Canal Traders at Canal events is just one of the ways.

After selling my house to experience an alternative lifestyle I bought a canal boat and a camper van which as a solo female who loves to travel, gives me the best of both worlds. I have recently got myself a new addition to the crew, a fabulous companion - my little rescue dog Bonny who is an absolute joy. I also work full time off grid from my tiny home and trade at canal festivals as The Pirate Boat.

Nice to see Jackie again and all the stuff going on at the festival. Bonnie been an absolute delight there, getting on with other dogs and looking like she was enjoying every day. The lock ditty said it like it was. Enjoy your week.

Love that Leaky Lock poem. Speaks to me of life.
And yes, as a former boater and now a caravaner, I love having tanks full/empty whatever, and batteries charged, etc. Makes life so nice. People who own homes that have water and electricity and sewer 24x7, maybe they can't understand the "joy" of this sort of thing. 🙂 Trying to find water, fuel, coal, etc, much less a place to park your boat for the night. Much less the concerns of weather and wind.

Balls Bridge…… Fact, in the victorian times a local farmer used to hang his spuds over the edge of the bridge to air them !!
Next week in Aust is the " race that stops a nation" the Melbourne Cup where every one frocks up ( and whatever is the male equivalent). A hat or fasinator must be worn - your pirate hat would definitely be a fashion statement❤😊 ( google melbourne cup millinery). Me thinks you could get away with the pirate theme for the day - ditch the high heels! They tend to get stuck in the grass and give you blisters😎

I spotted the cameo appearance by ex boater David there. Yes, the old engines are interesting, you've got a very nice one too, I'm surprised at how reliable it is considering it's age, it was certainly built to last. I think out of all the old ones I like the Russell Newbury DM2 most, those things sound so cool, if I was having a boat built I'd like to pop one of those in it. Interestingly they were built not far from where I lived in my UK days. Thank you again for a lovely video, I always look forward to them.

Lovely day out, hope you like those pies & custard it's a lovely little shop in Atherstone. It was great to meet up (twice) sorry it was a quicky( don't be rude lol) on saturday but i left it too late and i had to be in burton on trent. But i brought her indoors on sunday and she enjoyed her chat and seeing bonny, last treat of the day was seeing the steam engine on the way back home at polesworth. hope to meet you again sometime but until then we will be following you on y/tube xxxx

If one year you decide to get to the Rickmansworth canal festival, please let me know when you're on you're way to the Hertfordshire part of the Grand Union Canal, would love to meet you and the beautiful Bonny in person. Always a good treat. I used to do wood turnings and did things like this. Playing a Contra Dance Friday. Better make sure the sound system is gathered and ready to go. Winter is definitely here. Had a moose just out the door a couple nights ago. Had to wait a bit as it moved away so i could gather wood from the wood shed. Take care and stay dry.

The plaque on the lock is so perfect and so glad you are still including the ditties as it's good to see people writing for fun where they wouldn't even think about it otherwise. Were you a classroom teacher or solely music? The paperwork that goes with teaching is ridiculous. That's one reason I got out, I wanted to teach and have fun in the classroom not be bogged down with c*ap. So good to be out of the system isn't it. =-) Take care =-)

We have to get across the lock, we need a bridge to pull him out.
So build it fast, and name it Ball's, and get a rope and tie it stout.
The mom did scream, and pain it was, but Hairy Balls was finally out.
And when he grew, he crossed that bridge, his balls so long it made us cringe.
The tale is over, now go away, and seek Harry Balls and ask to stay.
