- This week I leave my Narrowboat behind and move full time into my camper van to experience Van life. I link up with a fellow solo female traveller and we head to folkestone to catch the Le shuttle train through the Eurotunnel to Calais, France. We explore Dunkirk and the Operation Dynamo Museum before driving our camper vans to Ypres, Belgium where we head to Menin Gate to hear the Last Post being performed.

After selling my house to experience an alternative lifestyle I bought a canal boat and a camper van which as a solo female who loves to travel, gives me the best of both worlds. I have recently got myself a new addition to the crew, a fabulous companion - my little rescue dog Bonny who is an absolute joy and the perfect First Mate. I also work full time off grid from my tiny home and trade at canal festivals as The Narrowboat Pirate aboard The Pirate Boat.

So so sweet to be able to join in your excellent adventure. I miss many friends I had in England and you help me to fill that void. All my relatives are now gone from my own adventures but I feel like Europe is still with me. The fallen are never left behind, Christmas still stirs the soul and adventurous lady pirates help curb the defeated spirit. Lots of love❤ and best wishes from a winter storm in Arizona 🇺🇸. ❤ what an exciting adventure with your best friend. Quite emotional seeing the WWII scenes at Dunkirk and in Belgium. Looking forward to next weeks episode on your European travels.
Ypres is pronounced 'eepruh' but the British soldiers called it 'Wipers. The last post at the Menin Gate is so atmospheric. Enjoying the vlogs, really useful info for those of us thinking of taking our pets on the Shuttle.

Excellent to see that you girls and the dogs have managed to do the crossing of the Channel through the tunnel, which of course is far better when you are travelling with dogs.
Also very good to have done you preparations properly like the dogs papers and you Autoroute passage boxes to avoid the hassle at the toll booths.
BTW in case you haven't noticed, you are going North, and Spain and Portugal are in the opposite direction, but never mind Belgium, and if you continue the Netherlands are beautiful too, only don't expect it to be warm, apart from inside your beatiful campervans.
23 and 24 years old vans are normally far more reliable than all the modern ones where most thing are electronicly controled, and that means a LOT MORE to go wrong, your old ones are simple, so less likely to go wrong, and if they do, you don't need the expensive garages with their computerised tests, there is no substitude for K.I.S.S.

Get a couple of portable radios, walkie-talkie style that way it’s easy communications between you and Sandra while driving or just van to van communicating. There cheap and can also be used on your boats

I was holding my breath for you Heidi, arriving in France in the dark, on the wrong side of the road and where to go. We were scared arriving in the light. Belgium was the first time we saw REAL war damage, very sad. Have a great time mate I’ll be watching for more adventures. Take care lovely and Bonny. 💕

Oh I am so jealous Heidi. We can't leave home (UK) at the moment but as soon as we are able to we are off and will be doing the exact same route you've just taken heading for Brugge. You'll be fine driving abroad, my hubby sent you a message about when in France be aware of the Priorite Adroit, priority from the right. He got a helluva fright so now it's very clued up on it lol. Camping Car Park areas are brilliant and very cheap. Have an amazing time xxxxx

Good to see you arrived intact, the tunnel had issues with water leaking from the fire system, so only one tunnel was in use. We used it back in 2005 taking my daughter to see Euro Disney, once on the French side the train really speeded up. As my parents took us all over the UK and Europe as kids, we visited Bruges, and I was invited to play the keyboard at the Belfort with a little help from the guide. It's the wrong time of year, but the tulip gardens in Holland are well worth a visit. Have fun!

Wow, 40 minutes for the time in the chunnel. I didn't realize it was that long. What do people do who are claustrophobic ... take a boat or ferry I guess. Hope you got a nap while you were under there. I sure appreciate the history, and wish it wasn't being repeated today in other countries. Here's to the doggies and to Sandra and you ... travel on! 🙂
