    Maybe some WD 40 for cleaning the windshield but if it takes you home does it matter? If a tree falls in the forest and no ones there?? Oh yeah to find a clean slate like this to do a build. Back in my day and a few machine shops all around me, a whimper and it would happen before you could do it yourself. I got my hands on a 53 chevy corvette intake and exhaust set up so I had the three carbs and split exhaust factory.... thinking hard.... maybe only two single downdraft carbs.... anyway we kept the exhaust and got out the aluminum and made a side draft intake with three carbs. Not one head bolt removed, just bolted it on my dads truck. I figured he would ream my tail for it but it was there just talking to us teenagers. Dad comes in and ruins everything.! He has two chrome stacks for going up the back of the cab and some seat covers cause his were worn... not clear through but worn so out comes those hideous seatcovers that had the pockets in the front. I and all of us kids got dads old truck a "Rocking" and she did alright. Breath on the key start as it did have the key start and it was also the 54 model. He drove that truck for years with loud pipes and all

      I agree. They’re few and far between. And this one is a monster! Built in 1918. Unfortunately the new owners are most likely pushing it under. Wasn’t worth the cost to repair. I would have liked to see something like that get built 100 years ago using hand tools and no heavy equipment.

      @@MortskeRepair Be careful running an engine, new or old, on years old fuel. The additives in most fuels, as the fuel evaporates, will become more concentrated and will deposit on the valve stems. Congrats on your 6 volt battery sponsor, I've got a 51 Ferguson still. 6 volt batteries last four times as long as a 12 volt for some reasons and I kept my 54 international r100 4x4 a 6 volt, it started in Colorado when my fuel injected 12 volt cars wouldn't. I love the old trucks but you can't flip them down here cuz everybody's freaked out about split rims. On the Bright side it sounds like a really good starter LOL and it wasn't stuck! I work for my uncle in the seventies on a wheat farm he had the greatest old trucks that lived in quonsets they were from the 40s and all of them ran, they kept them painted up cuz other than going to Hawaii in the winter those wheat Farmers don't have much to do since didn't have any critters to feed.

    Guess there is something to be said about storing an old truck in a barn with no leaking roof. Great job getting it started and running on 18 year old varnish gas.

    • @MortskeRepair
      @MortskeRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tin roof was the only thing keeping that building together. The red barn next to it never got the tin treatment and won't be standing much longer. I had a boat tank with fully expecting it not to run on the tar in that tank. Maybe it was stored with some sort of stabilizer in it? Or it was jut old enough that the gas was actually decent? Either way, it still stunk something horrible out the exhaust from that old gas. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    G'DAY MORTSKE,had to have a good look through your library to find this GEM,was especially informative to me as,on the farm that I grew up on , cropping and beef cattle,the first truck that I drove at least weekly,w.as a 1955_56 Chevrolet ( we called it a 4 tonne,had the same look as this 4100 just taller & 16' tray,we had a steel grain bin on back with a villiars(5 up) powered augur,so was primarily used for use during grain harvesting duties, taking grain from Harvester to on farm silos,with occasional trips to town(25 mile) round trip,was same engine 235 inline 6,my strongest memories are that we nearly always had to park it on a hill,to roll start,due to ongoing problems with floor mounted foot depress starter & intermittent brakes,we had both doors removed for easy access or dismount ( as dad always answered queries, regarding why our truck had no doors) his favourite trick was coming to a crawl,then jumping out to open on farm gates,then letting truck roll through such gateway,shut gate,run after truck,then jump in,keep going,all ACHIEVED , without truck stalling or crashing into the many trees,on a farm tracks(45 miles in total,with 11 gates) total 2000 acres,with average paddock size 200 acres( generally taking 24 hrs each working, ploughing, cultivation, plantings, harvesting), with the truck used as service truck, fuelling, greasing etc= GOOD TIMES, MEMORIES,as always, Kindest Regards, Dave McLaughlin Queensland Australia

When we got home, parked it. 18 years went buy, never started it. My bad. So I got around to seeing if it would run. Bought a new battery, hit the key, removed coil wire, cranked fine, let oil pressure come up. Poured gas in carb, fired right up, didnt touch distributer, or points!! sounded absolutely fine. Let it run about 20 minutes, normal temp, excellent oil pressure. Put new tires on it, rebuilt brakes.changed fluids, Back on the road!

Some farmers wait until the truck is missing half its bits before they bother fixing it and others keep their stuff in top shape. Had two farmers near my house that were on opposite ends of the scale. One kept all of his stuff in like new shape nearly, including paint. The other looked like he was trying to start a junkyard. I like tinkering so i hope one day to buy a small farm here and start hoarding old american steel. I plan to start my own channel on youtube about life here and also old cars, etc. I will be posting your channel link as well as others in my description area. I got my sights on a 1954 Ford Crestline with a V8 in it. $1300! It needs repaint and probably the interior finished. ITs ok cuz im not keeping it totally stock. i bought one of these that had been setting next to a barn since 1984. it is a 5600 5 window with a 14' bed and only 33,000 original miles. best part is i only had to give $700 bucks for it. the carb is stuck, and i had to buy 4 different carbs off of ebay to get all the different parts to make one work. the base, body and upper are from three different carbs, but i had to get another one to get the fuel inlet to face the right direction. i'm still looking for brake shoes and wheel cylinders. sadly, for that large of a truck they're rarer than hen's teeth.

    • @MortskeRepair
      @MortskeRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds like a heck of a deal right there! Yes, tires and brakes generally cost more than the truck is worth. Tires are expensive but relatively easy to find. Brakes on the other hand... Someone might chime in with a good source for new brake parts tho!

      @@MortskeRepair i broke a couple of bleeders trying to get them unstuck to bleed the brakes because i had to replace all of the lines, and i haven't torn them apart yet. i may have to get new pistons and cups if i can and live with it if i can't find new cylinders. the issue is because the 5600 series is a 2 1/2 ton truck. there are a ton of parts for the smaller trucks, this one not so much. they said the only thing the truck did was drive from the farm, to the field, to the grain elevator. that's the reason for the low miles. they bought it new, so i'm the second owner of the thing, and sitting neglected in the weeds next to a barn in northern indiana for 40 odd years didn't do it any favors let me tell you. the wooden grain box had rotted off of it, but the motor and steering weren't stuck, so i lucked out there. i changed the tires myself, because as you say, the only ones who would do it was the semi repair garage, and being a cheap ass, i wasn't paying those prices. i had changed them before as a kid, so it wasn't something new. you just want to set the bead with the tire face down, and stand well away from it just in case.

    • @MortskeRepair
      @MortskeRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1
