I love the neutral grip for lats but not really for rhomboids. In my opinion for rhomboids and upper back I like either meadows rows or seated cable rows but with the longer bar and pulling higher up, to your chest. You should feel it more in your upper back that way. Use straps on your heavy set too. Can’t go wrong with any of John’s back videos.
Your grip doesn't determine the muscles that are targeted; it's more so your Elbow Position during the Pulling Motion (in most cases). A simple cue to remember is that the higher your Elbows the more Engagement from the Upper Back.
I know this is a video following a long layoff but if anyone can give advice on how to really feel my lower lats it'd be appreciated. I do various grip pull downs and rows, single arm dumbell rows etc, always struggle to feel my lower lats doing anything.
