I gotta watch more of these. As a design student, I already know I have a lot to learn... When I watched this, it helped me understand what some of those lessons need to be.
I bumped into your channel about a month or so ago and I'm been addicted ever since. Keep up the amazing work. A highly inspirational and motivational channel. :-) Thank You!
I'm rooting for anyone who can take the constructive criticism and use it to push through their fears & insecurities to become a better designer. That's a winner.

26:40 Favorite moment in editing. I really liked the quick cut to examples of what was talked about. Hope there will be more of these cutaways in the futur, but maybe not that quick.
I regret hesitating to audition for this season of Young Guns, but because of that, I will try to apply as much of this advice as possible to my own work. I'm rooting for all these ladies to learn a lot and grow a lot throughout the season.
Omg I totally agree about how much harder it is to create your own visual identity. Constant flux because it never feels good enough or you don't want to cement yourself to one style lol. It's a battle. I love all of these ladies' work. Ottimo lavoro, signore! 👏
I have high hopes for the last designer, Tosin Adeniyi. She sounds so daunted by the competition! I hope she takes this as a personal challenge and not a losing game. She's got skills, this Young Guns challenge is to only going to boost her abilities and hone her craft. You can do it, Tosin!
Right that’s why you frequently critique her last in most videos. You even treat her as a lesser designer. In the first video I guessed the editor would place her last and that’s exactly where she was placed. That is not irony.
The competition this season is a lot closer to each other in skill then last seasons and it's going to make these competitions a lot harder to judge. These ladies are going to have to pull off all the stops if they are going to come out on top. Looking forward to see the rest of the season.
at the end i felt like i was watching a vlog on Annie's youtube or something, love her confidence, personality & work thank you for returning this series Chris!
This is so cool! I can see myself in all these women in some way or the other and can tell this is going to be beneficial for all of us. Thank you once again you guys, for having such amazing initiatives. Look forward to it.
I really like Monika's portfolio. Im a late bloomer 28yrs old and after seeing these portfolio it inspires me to step up my game. All the ladies did very well.
I know this is weird and nit-picky, but that bit at the end of each critique where you're scoring them - and on the screen it highlights: Personality, Focus, What You Do, Quality. The highlights aren't evenly timed and it bugged me every single time I saw it. Other than that, I'm seriously impressed by the quality of the work shown here and I feel like I learn half-a-dozen new things every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge!
Ah! I noticed that too, sorry that it bothered you! thefutur is trying to be consistent by uploading a YG2 episode every week for you guys so there's a tighter editing window for them than last year. hope you can understand:) Thanks for your support!
Aaaa watching this was so daunting but so much value!! I almost felt like my work was being critiqued indirectly too if that makes sense hahaha found similarities and things I should apply to my own stuff! I really wanted to apply too but chicken'd out hahah! Great stuff as always!! Thank you!c:
This is such an awesome video. I’m in the process of redoing my online portfolio after graduating last year from college and this was so informative. Thanks The Futur! Looking forward to the next episode 👍🏼
I love the Young Guns series you do at Futur. It's alway very valubale to hear Chris's thoughts. But don't get me wrong. When you have a guest on your show like now, with Melinda Livsey, let her talk a bit more. I would love the hear more of her thoughts as well. It don't felt balanced. It's always great to hear from other experts/professionals too. Besides that, great video!
The Futur, you‘re absolutely right. She can talk as much as she wants. Nevertheless I would encourage your guests to talk more. Give them more room for thoughts. It’s just a thought for improving your already great content you produce at Futur. All your videos have great advices you share with us. Thank you.
Aww appreciate it guys! What happened was I actually linked them my personal account at the time because I had only recently started my design account without much work on there. I hoped they would see I had a design account on my bio, but they must have missed it. Still got some great advice regardless out of the critique on my personal, so not all was lost 🙂
i like Annie's business card design but the overall design with Monika are excellent, consistency is important for being a professional, spontaneous and smart designer. I hope Monika can win in the package design challenge!
Hey Chris, Love the video. However, It would really help if you could also get some UX Design portfolios to review. You've got great UX content, that was the primary reason why I was following your channel.
Is that a futur laptop decal there...? Edit: the shot set up here is class with the light and dark divide as they review on the laptop. Upping the game guys.
looking forward to seeing more of these episodes! I think some of the background music is quite distracting at times eg @38:40 and a lot of other time. ARgh!! have a really hard time focusing on what Chris and Melinda are saying with the background music. Am I the only one feeling this way?
Everytime I browse for inspirations from other designers, my imposter syndrome level increases 70%. How can we learn from others without comparing with ourselves? It’s easy when it’s not the field i am passionate about, but when it comes to my passion, i judge myself hard. 😭😭
Awesome Show soo much valuable material for students & professionals alike. However, I cannot ignore the shows core structure. I can't shake the feeling the contestants were too many could have been separated into Season 3. Maybe it's just me but each episode is a little overwhelming on keeping track on whos who, & whose work just a foresight for upcoming shows.
I'm so excited for this season! Plus ALL WOMEN! Yay women in tech and creative fields being celebrated! Also, it looks like this season is going to be TOUGH. Good luck figuring that out, I don't envy you :P
Loved this episode. As a finished photographer but still a graphic designer student, do You have any tips, how do I show off both in one portfolio? Or should I just separate them? In photography Im mostly into architecture and studio portraits, and in design the typography, logos, branding and webdesign interest me the most. I could not choose which specific way I want to pursue.
Hello, Personally would prefer to watch a long video with annotations, or like some side animations to reemphasis the main points.. other than that this is a real helpful and informative video.
Stop making so much good content :) I don't have time to consume it. Thank you for showcasing a future that isn't dumb. Let's move towards a future of more valuable content showcasing skills and humanity, instead of watching people drink and fight over stupid shit, like earlier (and still present) reality TV. We should all strive to increase the lowest common denominator. Bless up!
@Thefutur @Chrisdo Just to understand, why do you not recommend the latest design to be the most important design the clients should look at? Because as far as I have noticed, you keep updating your portfolio based on what you learn as time goes by and naturally your latest work seems better than the ones worked before. So the client should see the latest work that showcases the current complete potential of the designer right? Please share your insights, I would love to know more.
14:15 it’s crazy how in a creative field, directors don’t want to see you do everything. They only want either, or. My boss is the same at my television station. He wants me to shoot and edit. I do on-camera stuff, but he’ll reach out to inexperienced randoms to do it because he’d rather me do one or the other.

14:00 but, why is it a bad thing to showcase all that you can do? It helps clients to know what you're capable of and build trust to know that you are good at drawing/seeing perspective and translating that to digital art, right?

Annie and Monika's work is incredible! Both ladies are really talented. Annie's mockups were put together well and Monika's insta feed was goals.

👏
This is wonderful to see such a great amusing and valuable show...
I wish you would keep the camera on the screen when reviewing the portfolios, instead of showing Chris and Melinda's faces
i believe it would get old fast, they hover on an image for a long time - when someone is speaking you want to see them, you connect more
Sure at least as designers they was supposed to edit the video as picture in picture so that we can them both
This year all the improvement I got was from videos like this, 0 from my teacher
This is gold! I'll definitely watch more than once
Love this show 😍
Thank you guys for your work!
