The level of importance of having someone who identifies as a lesbian explain bisexuality so simply and openly is incredible. There is such a stigma around bisexuality and lesbians hating on us (some, not all) that this is great on that level, as well as the broad level socieatial level. Your the best!!!
Melissa Annette could not agree more!! I am dating a woman and I find myself using the word “queer” to describe myself because bi is such an uncomfortable thing for me to describe myself as because of experiences I’ve had with lesbian women/trying to date lesbian women. I love that she addressed that we’re not just kissing girls for attention/fun (not saying it’s not fun haha but ya know) because I feel like that stereotype is what kept me so confused about my own sexuality for so long. It was brushed off as something funny I’d do at parties aka the only place where I felt comfortable enough to make out with ANYONE hahaha not just women. And it also wasn’t seen as “real” like technically I cheated on my first boyfriend with a girl, he was not present hahaha but everyone just thought it was a funny thing I did and he so didn’t care because he assumed it was just me having fun at a party or whatever (not saying cheating is ok by any means!!! Just saying that at 17 I was confused...and made a mistake but no one even cared cause everything is so heteronormative!!!) and technically I lost my virginity to a girl but again that was seen as just something “funny” I did after a party......but again when do teenagers hook up....usually after or at parties!!!! Soooo it took a while for me to see it as my own sexual identity because everyone else seemed to find those moments funny party tricks and then third year university came along and I was like huh.....I like this person and no one is telling me that liking her is silly/funny etc. and I am NOT going to parties with her hahaha But even after that it took years of working on dealing with internalized bi-erasure to get to a point where I even considered having a real relationship with a woman. Long story short - what we say about people who aren’t just into women or just into men aka bi or queer or however they choose to identify really matters and can REALLY mess with a person’s mind. So, let’s not do that....💁🏻♀️

The only thing that is misunderstood about bisexuality is that it’s “not a thing” that you’re either gay or straight if you’re in a relationship with either gender. Other people on the other hand, think that omnisexuality isn’t even sexual orientation, which is why I think it’s bashed more than bisexuality. When do people go around saying “you cant be bisexual because there’s only one gender”. Never. I just love someone no matter what, because I value their soul and their heart before what’s in between their legs and what they choose to identify themselves as. Nicole Smrekar If your only argument is trying to define my sexuality based purely off of a profile picture and a comment, you’re not someone worth arguing with. Being lesbian doesn’t have to do with the fact that I’m feminine or that I care about bisexual people. It purely has to do with who I love and am attracted to being solely females. If you really had any respect for anyone in or any knowledge about the community or “reality” you claim to be a part of, you’d know that. Frankly, I know my sexuality and any people I’m in relationships with do too so that’s really all that matters. If you don’t believe I’m a lesbian, that’s really not my problem, it doesn’t change the truth. And the fact you think you have any credibility in defining a stranger’s sexuality is ridiculous and pathetic.
And I wasn’t saying we are on the same side, obviously we have disagreements, but I’m saying that you’re acting as if different groups of people or people with differing beliefs have to be enemies when they don’t. The world doesn’t have to be a one man show, not everyone is out to get you so you don’t need to be out to get everyone else.

My experience was the total opposite. I came out as gay to my mom (who is now very supportive!) and she said "are you sure you aren't bisexual?" (clearly she was hoping there was still a chance I'd get with a guy but still).

I’m bisexual. I like women more than men but have been in relationships with both genders in my life. There are still friends of mine to this day, even who are in the LGBTQ community, who make comments that I am a lesbian because I date more women than men. Or who make comments such as, when am I just gonna admit it, that I’m a lesbian, etc. It is so frustrating, and I’ve told them before that I am bisexual and explained the spectrum thing. Anyway, thank you for making this video & acknowledging us. It means a lot! 💜💙💓
I also know that if I got into a relationship with a cis man, some would question the authenticity of it. Well, that’s their problem, not mine. I’m just living my life for me! ❤️
baby sinclair i can definitely relate to what you said. I feel like in my life i have gone through the exact same thing. I consider myself more gay than bi and have been in a current long term relationship with a girl but i still find guys attractive and have been with guys in the past. People have called me so many different things and in fact whenever i was seeing a guy my friends thought it was more weird than if i was with a girl. They would say its not real and that theres no way i could really have feelings for a guy cuz im "too gay". Idk I've gone through struggles with trying to figure myself out for years to the point that i now don't like to label myself at all as really anything. I like what i like and i love who i love no matter the gender its all about the person. But when it comes to love and relationships I definitely feel it more and stronger with girls. But ya, the struggle is real lol. Shannon definitely explained it very well in this video. I could relate to a lot of what she said as well. 🦄🌈💕

I’ve only slept with and dated men because I’m now married and didn’t realize I was bisexual until after I got married. But my whole life, I almost never found a guy attractive until after I developed strong emotional feelings. However I always found girls very intimidating and got flustered around them and many girls I would find myself attracted to in the most casual interactions. So despite identifying as straight for the first 19 years of my life, only having experiences with men, and being very happily married to a man, I believe that my sexual preference is in fact screwed more towards females. Nothing wrong with that, in fact it changes nothing about my life as I happily plan to remain in my hetero marriage for the rest of my life. It’s just something to ponder, recognize, and it gives me more insight into the lgbtq community. And if I hadn’t already found the love of my life it is fascinating to wonder if I would have experimented and swung more towards female relationships. I don’t think being in a lifelong hetero relationship makes me less bisexual. It’s not something that switches off and on just because of your current partner’s gender. I think it’s funny that people see bisexual girls as on again off again lesbians. That’s ridiculous.
Alexis Outt love this comment. I have had a relationship with a female before I met my now husband, but was never comfortable in admitting that I was bisexual. It’s only now I am - very happily - married that I have accepted this. It’s hard for friends to understand as they assume my relationship with my ex was a “phase” and now I’m with a male I am “straight”. No. I am bi. I always will be bi. I just happen to be married and have 2 children with a male. Bizarre how people view things!

Idk about anyone else but as a bisexual woman I’ve been over sexualized. Meaning I’ve had guy partners who have thought oh you’re bisexual that’s cute we can have a threesome at some point. I’ve had girls who thought I was just horny and would eventually leave them for a man partner. I’ve had girls walk away from me because I was bisexual which blows my mind because just because I’m bi doesn’t mean I’m going to leave you at some point for a man. That’s not how bisexuality works. Sorry but this has happened to me and I had to get it off my chest lmao

I feel that biphobia is recently more common than homophobia. I’m a lesbian so don’t experience it, however we (aka the LGBT community) need to stop hating on bisexual individuals! Especially considering we know what it’s like to be discriminated against :)

I do find myself straying away from dating women who are bisexual & that just stems from insecurities. That's something I have to work on. That's also another good topic to elaborate on, Shannon. Kara Locklear props for honesty :) a lot of gay women, I’ve noticed, refuse to date bisexuals and hey-to each their own but part of me thinks ok you’re closing yourself off (not you specifically) but to a degree you kind of cheat yourself out of possibly making a great connection with someone. (Rose & Rosie for example.) and please don’t take this as me telling you what to do-just my 2 cents. You could meet your future wife and she may consider herself bi but maybe she’s 80% into women. I’m not saying sexuality can be simplified to math (also: dear math, I’m not a therapist, solve your own problems). I’m not here to challenge anyone but simply say if you connect with someone-who cares about the label?
(Personally when I was with my ex I knew she wouldn’t leave me for anyone-male or female. It was about being open with each other, communicating, expressing.)

I have once heard that 60% of the world population is bisexual. They might not identify as bi but they are in some way attracted to both genders. So I don't know why people still find it so hard to understand. Love isn't complicated, people are. I am a lesbian but some people ask me if I would ever date a bi girl.. Uhm yes!!?! 🤷🏼♀️Why wouldn't I? Just because she likes both genders doesn't mean she is going to cheat on me, leave me for a boy (when a lesbian can leave me for an other girl as well), or that she misses 'something' when she is with me. 1) How will they themselves know that they are gay?

Some people prefer not to define or label their sexuality. "You fall in love with who you fall in love with." In some ways, bisexuals have a harder time because people can't understand how they can be attracted to both genders instead of one.
@@shashwath100 I know this is really late and you've probably found an answer or won't see this, but I'll answer your questions anyway to the best of my ability
1. How do you know? Well, it's like knowing that that's your favorite show, or knowing you love your pet, it's just there sorta. For me I I find boys and girls both attractive (mainly girls though ngl) and I just know it. It's like you know that the grass is green. I personally also had a crush on this other girl so that's a solid way to find out haha, but you don't need to experiment nessasarily, it's not you haven't found the right guy/girl it's just who you are
2. Why come out? First off, once your "out" (openly bi, gay, trans, pan ect) your not constantly hiding part of yourself. When some of my friends talk about hot boys, I just sit there akwardly in the corner trying to to appear too gay (lol) it makes it easier in a way, since you don't feel guilty or like your hiding something. You don't need to come out (but in my opinion it makes it easier, but also so much harder haha) also then people don't assume your straight and are less surprised in the future (being trans is a whole different thing by the way, or non binary, since your changing yourself and need to explain to people so they still know it's you and along with just knowing there's also things like body dysmorphia, if that's spelled right)
This may differ from person to person of course, but I think that's what I hear people saying most hope that helped :)

I NEEDED to hear that, so bad. SO bad. You seriously just ended this internal battle I had going on in myself over my own bisexuality. I wasn’t even looking for this topic or anything like this at all, and you super randomly popped up in my TH-cam feed. I am so grateful and so thankful for this. I am always so open, loving and accepting of others no matter what, but I struggle to do that for myself. Honestly you explaining it this way and making it so direct to such a specific audience, that I am clearly a part of, I really felt like you were talking to me specifically. i’ve wanted you to remake this for so long! i sat down with my dad last month after a really deep convo about sexuality & what it all means coz even though i’ve been out for 2 years it’s still not something we’ve really spoke about! i explained it’s a spectrum, and i used this analogy as i do everytime i have this conversation with anyone!! we watched the old version of this together & he said the way you described it made sense & he finally understood! not many people see that video these days and i’m so glad that you’ve brought light to it again as it’s genuinely one of my fave ones you’ve ever done! such a simple explanation for something that so many people over complicate! i may not be bisexual myself but this video helps so much in getting rid of the stigma of all ends of the spectrum!! i love what you stand for & am proud of you as always x
Thank you for this video! As someone who is bi, this really hit home. I'm currently taking a human sexuality course at school and we were actually just talking about this the other day. A person in my class told us that she had read a study that explained that about 10 percent of the population lies on the totally straight end of the spectrum and about 10 percent lies on the totally gay side. Meaning that about 80 percent of the population is somewhere in between! That totally blew my mind but makes so. much. sense.

I watched the first version of this video about 3 years ago when I was 17 years old and I remember the feeling I got from watching someone articulate how I was feeling in such a simple way.. because really it is a very simple concept?! I've grown a lot since then and I am waaaay more comfortable within myself, I think it's great that you've made this again so it is more accessible to people as your channel has grown. A couple of years ago I met someone who made me realize that I was bisexual. We fell deeply in love but my circumstances made that relationship impossible and went separate ways. She is now in a relationship with a guy but sometimes I wish I had met her first and picture my life different than what it is now if I had left it all for her. Although I cannot change the past I wish I had experience my sexuality fully and had not being so scared of people’s judgement before I got married.

I think it’s super interesting that lots of people come out as gay cause they’ve always had feelings for the opposite sex and feel overwhelmed and feel like they have to fully engage in being gay at the beginning of coming out so they discard that there might be other options. At least that’s what happened to me, I knew I liked boys (a lot) so I thought well definitely gay then. But now. Few years after coming out I’ve realised that i’m actually more bi. Like 80% into men and 20% into women. And thinking back I’m realising that I’ve always felt this way, I just focused on the “gay site” of me cause it was my biggest problem at the time

I am both bi and Demi sexual. I am 24 and a half years old and never dated neither guys or girls ever. I am just really socially anxious. I used to be shy and insecure, I am not now, but I am really socially anxious now. Anyhoo, what I am trying to say is, inspite of all that, I just know that I am bi. So, I really doubt it's a preference. Oh God I don't think that made sense at all 😂 I have people who have asked me that since I have never dated a guy or a girl, how do I know? And I always respond saying that before you ever dated your first guy, how did you know? I guess you just know. I think I always have and just now learned enough to label it.

Since I accepted myself as bi, I have: constantly had to come out, been told to pick a side and stick to it, been told I'm actually gay but can't admit it, greedy, an attention seeker, had guys ask me to make out with a girl, had people be paranoid I'll cheat (which I have never done in my life) and all sorts of shit. I've even had a gay friend get PISSED at me for dating a guy instead of a girl right after I came out as bi. It gets so annoying and actually makes me quite upset - especially when half of this stuff came from LGBTQ peeps. So thank you for posting this, you're awesome

I identify as bisexual, members of my family are gay and lesbian, but I am still made fun off and bullied because they have been cheated on bisexual people. Saying we can’t make up our minds, or we are just so desperate to find someone to be with... it’s frustrating because I’ve struggled my entire life going back and forth with my sexuality, I was convinced I was straight, then I was convinced I was gay... finally I said screw it! I will still have to defend myself with in my own family but it’s worth it. I deserve to be heard and accepted as they too deserve to be heard and respected.

You’re incredible. I married a man but I’m still bisexual! I’ve had SO many guys I’ve dated ask me “so technically your straight now” as if their banana cured me of ever wanting apples. On the other hand, I’ve dated girls who would go sleep with other guys because “it’s not technically cheating”. I don’t know where people get these ideas!!

shannon you're speaking my thoughts. i also want to mention that even though i identify as gay, i could never say that i 100% only like girls. because every now and then i do see a boy and ask myself if i would maybe enjoy kissing that boy. i can't see myself in a relationship with a man and i don't fancy leo dicaprio but i guess i am a teeny tiny bit attracted to men. and also: where is the line between finding someone pretty and being attracted to them, in a sexual or romantic way? i do believe that sexuality is fluid in every imaginable way.

@New sub because it's about truth. Self acceptance and, hopefully, being accepted by those around you. Just because a man and woman are together, it doesn't automatically mean that either are heterosexual. Bisexuals are often buried under social hetero normative assumptions so viability is important to a lot of us.
I'm glad I got to this point. My husband and I broke up 18 months ago - his choice - and I've decided to try dating women and had my first experience which was so much more incredible than anticipated.

Normally I don’t comment on videos a lot. But yes I relate to this. Despite being a bisexual, the group I represent were the only people who were supported me wholly. From my experience, both straight and lgbtq community when it comes to bisexuality it’s like the worst alienation one can experience. I think several years ago Tyra banks highlighted in her show this exact premise. It’s been 10+ years since then and it’s still very much somewhat the same.
Ive learned how to manage that alienation by just accepting and being in peace who I am. The rest usually (sometimes fall into place)
It helps most of the time.

I've always been attracted to people who are bisexual to some degree (sometimes i know right away, often times i discover through conversation sometime later)... Meaning they have felt Chemistry both with men and with women at some point, not necessarily have straight up taken action on that varying level of attraction every time, but they don't freak out or blow it out of proportion.
To me this shows balance, open mindedness, and an awareness to one's own attraction and varying degrees of attraction in general. That takes honesty and maturity. They've all been amazing communicators, as well. Correlation?

Thank you for this!! I have been aware of my bi/pansexuality since at least puberty, if not earlier. I am 37 now, and just came out to my mom a few weeks ago. I have a very small amount of very close friends that have known for several years, but I have gone through life claiming or at least allowing others to believe I am completely hetero. I started out realizing I was bicurious, and held that title in my mind for a long time, because I had never even had a chance to explore/experience it. At some point, I changed my claim to full bisexual, even though I still haven't had much experience, because I finally believed in the fact that I could claim it without experience. For the fact that I know my interest in women isn't going to go away, just because I haven't had sex with one yet. My interest in itself is valid...I have gone past being curious, into knowing for sure that I am attracted. I have only shared intimate kissing, but it is a feeling that I totally enjoy. In fact, I get just as crazy excited and turned on when I see a new tiktok from my girl crush, as I do when I get a message from my boyfriend. That is where one of the struggles is for me, and a lot of people. In being told that because you don't have actual sexual experience with your same "gender" that you aren't anything more than just curious. Like my desire for this person, without actually experiencing the act of sex with them, isn't quite valid as full fledged bisexuality. That, and then just the general struggles of being queer in a heteronormative society. Thanks again for putting this info out there in such a perfect way! I love your comparative viewpoint with the food.
I was multitasking at the beginning and missed where you talked about this being based on an old video. Halfway through I got seriously freaked out bc I knew I had seen this video from you before and was slightly convinced I was experiencing a glitch between parallel dimensions.

I love this video. Maybe for future videos you could consider also mentioning that people could like neither (asexuality) and that there are other fruits beside apples and bananas (non-binary people). I know that this video is about bisexuality and meant as a simple explanation and those things aren't that important for it's understanding, but they might be something to think about next time.
