Phoenix is the fastest growing city in the country. Good place for the young and old, but the people you have lived here since the 40' and 50's would like the newcomers to smile and make eye contact when in public. We do that here.

A big difference from other places is gun laws. Open carry is legal if at least 18 and can own a gun. Also, Anyone at least 21 years old who can legally possess a firearm, may concealed carry a firearm without a permit. There are several indoor ranges.

Thanks for these great videos, Jeff. I put in an offer yesterday on a place in Gilbert. It was accepted this afternoon. I am so ready to get out of CA!
I agree with most of what you said. Lived and worked in Buffalo NY all my life. NY state has some beautiful areas but we used to say winters were too long and ridiculous. Well...spring is not that great also. Always raining and gloomy. Fall is ok once in a while. But as time went on I couldn’t stand the summers. Hate humidity. So we concluded that Western NY has about 45 good days a year. We love the weather in AZ. We live in Cave Creek AZ. You can constantly do things here. Summer can be too much but when the sun goes down its nice. Love to go to the north in the summer. Show Low, Alpine, Sedona, ect. It’s a great state.
Thanks for this. I grew up in the Hudson Valley, moved away and then moved back 10 years ago. At this point I am pretty much done with the climate here. Spent a few summers in saudi arabia and I really don't recall hating that 110+ desert heat as much as I hate a 90 degree humid as hell days in NY. So you would say that you hate the ultra hot AZ days less than you hated the less pleasant parts of NY weather?

Arizona really has 3 distinct climates depending on where you live. You have the Valley area that includes Phoenix and Tucson, and includes about 60% of the state. You have the high desert that is about 5000 feet that is about 15 degrees cooler than Phoenix and will have huge Ponderosa pines, and then you have the high country, where you are about 6000 feet and above such as Flagstaff. Flagstaff is 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix. I have lived here in Arizona for 12 years and have never seen a scorpion. I have seen a couple of dead rattlesnakes on the road and one live one. I don't think it has more rattlesnakes than many other states. I have seen 2 mosquitoes and have never been bit. Car theft is a problem in Phoenix, but especially in Tucson as the thieves come up from Mexico, steal the cars and drive them back. Car insurance in Tucson cost more. The problem will be around till the wall is completed. Even then, that may not work as people find ways. People complain about the socialist liberals moving here from California and it does happen, but I find as much or more people moving here (they call it fleeing), to escape the liberal politics and they are just as conservative as anyone else. Probably more conservative as most people, as they have witnessed first hand the damage done to California done by liberal policies. Prescott is probably the gem of the state. Just the right climate. Not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter.
I am from Arizona, grew up in Chandler. Now I live in Washington State. Reason? My husband was from Washington. Moved to Washington after Air Force tours were over.
Ah, you answered this... I guess I would have to buy a car there. Know any places out there that are like Lincoln Park / Lakeviewbon Chicago? I saw you said you visited Chicago. Those are pretty popular areas on our Northside. I would love to find AZ versions of those Chicago neighborhoods.

Thanks for your video! My wife and I presently live in metro Atlanta and we no longer enjoy it here for many reasons. We have visited Phoenix (Peoria, Paradise Valley, Casa Grande) and were positively impressed with the Phoenix area as a whole. When I retire in about 6 years, we feel strongly about relocating to the Phoenix, Casa Grande area. If we were to move today, it would be most likely the northwest area (Peoria, Sun City, Surprise). We both will still have some additional years of work in us before full retirement. Since you live in Sun City, would you recommend the northwest area? Also, are you able to give an approximate idea for average summer electric cost? Thanks again for your video.
Joseph Joseph I appreciate your input. I believe I have a skill set and background that insurance companies (accident investigations/reconstruction) or the USPS (prior military/commercial trucking) will find attractive. Willing to take my chances. In any event, we’re done with Atlanta and Florida is overly populated/touristy/natural-disaster prone for us.
Lorentz Armstrong My Mother retired to Coeur d’ Alene Idaho. Have you considered any other cities than Phx? I live in San Francisco and have a house in Tucson. I’m really just curious what you really like about Phx?
scott l We like the location and climate. My wife is from Thailand and does not like cold and wet weather and, quite frankly, me either, like we deal with in GA (and hot, humid summers for me). For us, it was either somewhere in Florida or metro Phoenix, Arizona. After vacationing to both, we lean to Arizona because it’s much less crowded and there are many more National Parks within a day’s drive to visit and explore. Secondly, the scenery. I for one am in awe to be able to see vast distances and all of the color. Third, not nearly as touristy as Florida. Forth, easy to quickly escape the masses. And just to wrap up, cost-of-living is more or less comparable to what we are used to. Regarding Idaho, we’ve never been there, don’t have anything against it other than it’s too far to the north for our interests.
During last summer in July and August my electric bill was around 250 for a 2,700 ft square house. Not bad. But I do keep my house at 76. If you go lower then you could be facing much higher bills.
Chef Jeff98 Thank you for your comment. That is about the size home we intend to buy so this information is very helpful. And thermostat set to 76 sounds like that would be about right for us as well. Thanks again!

Trying to get my spouse to move to AZ but our worry is will the people be open and friendly like they are here in Chicago. Thanks again!
Much of what the speaker said about Phoenix is true... except the part about quality of life possibly being the best in the country. In the Phoenix metro area, it all depends upon where you live and how much money you make. About 250 square miles of the Phoenix area (west of Central Avenue about 100 blocks and north of Broadway for almost 20 miles) is decaying and virtually lined with meth addicts and, unfortunately, the insane. Even the newer developments are nothing but brown stucco boxes on postage stamp lots - one after another. No character. No art. Just brown buildings, brown plants, and brown choking air (during the weekdays, anyway). This is the significant portion of the Valley of the Sun that the Chamber of Commerce won't talk about. The traffic is insane. Phoenix zoning is so bad that many major one-mile streets are nothing but one strip mall, car dealership, and fast food joint after another - sans landscaping. Pay in this part of town is slave wages (even with the increase in the minimum wage which the voters passed and the legislature is trying to get around). I drive 20 miles to work and from work every day, and all I see is decay. Houses falling down or at least needing paint. Vegetation that consists only of weeds. So, really, there are TWO Valleys of the Sun. One for the blue collar workers, immigrants, drug addicted and insane - and the other for the those who are considerably better off. My advice to anyone thinking of moving here who doesn't have money or a well-paying job - Don't. Pick a real city that has real cultural amenities, good public transportation, a higher collective I.Q, and where the politicians aren't total right-wing crooks.
@Red Pill Diogenes Yup, still pretty horrible. Getting better, but you really need a car here... or at least a horse and buggy. The light rail is plagued with crime, and the busses are usually pretty slow. The city and suburbs are so spread out that it often takes a long time to get around. However, if you plan well, you can work around the problems, I suppose. But Phoenix ain't no Chicago or Montreal..
@Red Pill Diogenes You're very welcome Red Pill Diogenes! I'm not a big fan of what Phoenix has become over the last many years. I'm looking to move up to a place like Prescott (90 miles northwest of Phoenix) in a few years. It's a great historic little town and somewhat affordable. The temperatures are about 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix, and it actually has some trees and bodies of water. You should check out osme of the videos of Prescott Arizona on TH-cam. Were you thinking of moving to Phoenix?
@Red Pill Diogenes Well, then, good luck! I'm more of a chilly-weather person. I like cold rain and wind. .. and of course the first snowfall is always nice in colder places (I've also lived in Chicago and Montreal). Most of my life has been here, though, and like so many people who have been here a long time, I remember how nice it used to be. HOWEVER, Phoenix and the massive suburbs that surround it, are still growing tremendously. So a lot of people appreciate its fine points more than I do and a lot of people are willing to trade some negatives for other negatives. Red Pill, as someone once said to me just before a big move, "What's the worst that can happen?" Seriously, life is a lot of ups and downs,. And one man's steak is another's potato. So, since you've decided, be happy. It must be meant, even if it is only just another stage in your life. At least Phoenix will give you a change of scenery! Good luck!
I live in Arizona, far southeast Arizona. You are not describing Arizona, you are describing Phoenix. This is a very parochial video. It has nothing to do with 95% of the state. The notion that light rail mass transportation would be a good idea in Phoenix is absurd. Rail is a point-to-point or linear mode of transportation. Phoenix is not linear; it is amorphous, spread out. It has a decent freeway system unlike Tucson. Phoenix doesn't need, can't use, rail.
Its at LEAST 100 degrees 6 month out of the year.. And thats 100's.. What about the 90+ degree months, like October, sometimes November, March, April.. Summer Starts March and doesnt end til October if you also count the 90+ degree days.. Even when its 85 outside, your house will be uncomfortable and warm.. I paid easily, 500 or more a month on just electric! Then you have water, maybe gas.. Utilities are INSANE.

@@giantleprechaun2350 Florida where I lived for many years is looking better already. I thought I'd put it in the rear view mirror but my research on AZ not finding too much that good could bring me back eventually. Maricopa may have less crime but a lot of racial tension from what I seen. Tucson some may rave about how its much cheaper than Portland OR but no.. probably not in the end. I heard something about energy costing more there or something. Someone told me they think Tucson has a young dating scene where people look good.. but your description of it doesn't sound so. It sounds like St Petersburg actually where it gives the illusion of all that stuff but doesn't live up and theres a lot of bad neighborhoods kinda thing.

In Arizona, the tax burden on income is relatively low; and the property tax burden is very low (low relative to other states, anyway). But... in order to put in a rail system and maintain it, taxes would have to go way up. The increased tax burden would make Phoenix less desirable, rather than more desirable.

@Fermin Watson If you're not into wildlife, this is not the place for you. Scorpions and snakes aren't the problem. The problem is the giant desert centipede. Look that one up.
@payne bobbees Wow, I think you don't get out much. (laughs). I've lived here 14 years, and I've seen hundreds of rattlesnakes.... and they usually don't rattle unless you mess with them. I think the worst was when I worked on the Arizona Strip, some days we would see dozens of snakes. They don't bother me, I just keep my eyes open and don't step or reach where I can't see. The giant desert centipede that ran across my foot was a truly horrifying experience.
Phoenix is the fastest growing city in the country. Good place for the young and old, but the people you have lived here since the 40' and 50's would like the newcomers to smile and make eye contact when in public. We do that here.
Mans sounds Beautiful. Mfs NEVER MAKE EYE CONTACT in the city, its weird
I just moved here from Colorado where I’ve lived for the last 20 years. I move here on November 30th. So far I’m loving it! Plenty of things to do and the restaurants and food are amazing!
I am so glad I found this channel..I will be moving to Phoenix soon and I really want to get a better feel for the place..I have family there and she has told me some things, but I like to get the perspectives of others who also live there..I like watching your videos because you talk about the pros and the cons, you don't sugar coat things IMO..I have issues with my breathing when the humidity is high so out there I won't have issues with high humidity..and the weather is another factor for me wanting to move out there..here in WV the winters can get cold and nasty..this is an awesome channel ☺
Did you move to az? I got family there to and might move but still looking to see ppls perspectives
I’ve lived here for 7 years, if you have respiring or allergy trouble? Stay where you are.
The air quality is terrible.
I’m curious, why are folks making these videos? Our population is high behind Phili.
It’s true, it’s a clean city and we want to keep it that way.
We take pride in our beautiful state !
A big difference from other places is gun laws. Open carry is legal if at least 18 and can own a gun. Also, Anyone at least 21 years old who can legally possess a firearm, may concealed carry a firearm without a permit. There are several indoor ranges.
Moving to Tucson in November with my two large dogs and cat, nervous but excited. Coming from Minnesota. Hoping mostly that I'm able to exercise my dogs somehow in the summer....I think we will be taking lots of trips up Mt Lemmon. Thanks for the videos!!!
Walk dogs early in the day or near sun down. Ground temps can easily exceed 160F in summer.
Thanks for these great videos, Jeff. I put in an offer yesterday on a place in Gilbert. It was accepted this afternoon. I am so ready to get out of CA!
I moved here to Arizona last year and I'm still adjusting to it but I love it.
Lol I live in Buffalo now and I want to move to AZ ASAP I love it!
I grew up in Cave Creek and will be moving back within the next year. Miss it so much.
The summer's in Arizona is like an endless Hell!

I just relocated from Huntington Beach to Flagstaff, but born and raised in Arizona. Loving the Flagstaff weather, tha is for the video, appreciated the information.
Love Flagstaff in the spring. I love the closeness to Sedona, Williams, Kingman, Seligman and the Grand Canyon.
Fell in love with Waddell, AZ. Could totally see myself living there in the future.

I loved those years and miss it, I've visit Tucson when I go to my H.S. reunion.

Good. Go away. We didn’t want you here anyway
Thank you Jeff. Question ?. I wonder if the affordable housing costs are due to the high cost of air conditioning during half the year? What’s your average electric and water bill during high summer?
It's really not bad. I have three units (5200 sf home) and it's about $350/ month. Affordable living because there's no big attraction here. It's a desert. Streets and strip malls.
You don't want a mass transit system. I live in L.A. (born and raised). The problem with mass transit is that it is not well maintained and it attracts a lot of the homeless and crazies.
We already have a lot of crazies in Arizona

This is helping me so much! I’m trying to choose for my family’s new place to live, currently in Indianapolis. I have a few choices (Reno, Dallas, Phoenix and Charlotte) and so far I’m liking the videos on Phoenix. Have you found rattlesnakes to be a big issue in the more developed areas? I have four dogs and animals with venom worry me! Thanks!
SimplisticallyNormal Snakes are mainly just in the desert. But still don’t leave your dogs outside unattended. There’s also coyotes, bobcats and killer bees that can attack dogs if you’re not attending to them.

Very good videos👌

Agree
Good luck!
@Red Pill Diogenes It will be an adventure!
You've lived in different parts of the world. What expenses have you incurred in AZ that surprised you or were higher than you expected them to be?

I live in Tacoma WA. I know how you feel lol its always raining and gloomy.
@@darwinsawah3630 Tell me about it😓
Phoenix was designed for cars. Once you learn the layout, it's simple, you will find it the easiest big city to navigate.
The terrain in st. David looks more to my liking, but I love the town amenities and look of Gilbert downtown! Too conservative is no fun either!
Great vid!
Send me a link to find the Flaffordable houses lol heard a guy bought a house for 275 an I was like 0.o kansas gets hot too but its a humidity hot. Feals like 200 sometimes around grainbins.
I live in San Diego and for the last 2 years we have reached 100 degrees in summer time. So I am ready to move to arizona.
100 is an overnight low here for 4 months of the year.
😂😂😂😂😂 how about 122? 115-122 consecutively for weeks?
I was 13 years old, riding my bike around Phoenix when it hit 125 degrees. Just so you know native Arizonans hate California with a passion. You have NO CAL and SO CAL. This is NOT CAL !!!
NOOOOO!!!!!!!
People from California are most likely to be eaten by the desert dragons. Don’t move here
In Arizona, the tax burden on income is relatively low; and the property tax burden is very low (low relative to other states, anyway).
But... in order to put in a rail system and maintain it, taxes would have to go way up. The increased tax burden would make Phoenix less desirable, rather than more desirable.
Moving from NJ to Tempe Area. My job is in tempe by Rio Salado Pkwy and W University Dr. What is the more affordable place to live around there that isnt too far away. And isnt a bad area?
Um... Phoenix DOES have a light rail. It goes all the way into Mesa.
can u make a video about how it is down there work wise? im a laborer from cali. ive been here and there some states and areas are almost impossible to find work for what reasons as others 4 outta 5 apps gets a job offer. shout me out if u make a vid please!
There are lots of laborer jobs here, but be prepared to accept a lot less money than you make in Cali. If you do get on a crew, you're going to have a rough time unless you speak Spanish.
When you’re from the bayou and think Arizona Summers are pleasant
Lived in Mesa Phoenix Florence and San Tan up 16 until I was 18 then I moved to Oregon but I miss it
Where are you from brother? Am coming down from the uk
Pronounced Press-kit (prescott) & it's growing fast!
Arizona is not all desert Prescott flagstaff Williams has trees and it snows about 18 inches this year. But best of all everyone carries guns. Less crime

Wow! I do not want to see a lot of growth here either Payne. But I am amazed at your language! I have family in law enforcement here, and yes; there is crime; but there is crime everywhere. Having said that; I think people should consider Needles California!
😂
