Moving to Phoenix this summer from Kentucky. I lived in New Mexico for a while so excited to get back to the southwest. I hate cold and snow. I’m 28, paid off all my debt last year and have no wife or kids. Excited for a fresh start and plan to start traveling the world all alone.

I had to leave all my plants behind in California when I moved here. And I began to try to replace them and found they just couldn't make it outside. I didn't feel right about having them inside knowing they like the sun, but it was the heat they couldn't handle. However the nice people came through as usual and I learned that Vinca can make it outside all year round as long as they don"t get that afternoon sun in the summer.

You forgot to mention scorpions in houses coming in when it's very hot outside because its cooler in the houses. Some people are deathly afraid of them. I was born and raised in Mesa and I still shiver and hyperventilate when one is in the house. Some people dont mind them but I very afraid of them. Still never been stung which is probably part of the fear.

I grew up in Arizona. In my childhood home, scorpions would occasionally appear but when we moved (to another location not far away), it wasn't really a problem.

Yuma foothills has a lot of scorpions. The last house we lived in they were everywhere. It may be because we had a pool. Cats and chickens will kill them. Also if you want to make sure you don't have them, look around your yard with a black light at night. They light up real easy.

    • @darthutah6649

Another thing I found about Arizona is that you will make a lot of friends with old people. They will be your neighbors. In many cases all of your neighbors will be old. You meet them at the doggy park, golf course, and about everywhere you go. One thing to keep in mind is that many of these old people were very cool when they were young and continue to be that way as they aged. Very interesting stories can be gleaned from them. However, you have to get used to having hearing the news that they died. In the 12 years I have been here, many of those old friends of mine have died, only to have old people buy their homes and you in turn making new friends. A lot of times they need help, so be prepared to taking them to the doctor or whatever. I had one guy he was so old he got to the point he was falling a lot. I could hear his calls for help and I would go over there and pick him up, dust him off, and get him in his house.

Sonoran hot dog sounds gross. I live in Apache Junction and moved here in October 2018 from Illinois north of Chicago and have family and friends here although I knew from visiting here all the time, my allergies would be rough. I would rather live here than in a more humid climate. Dang the dust storms are wicked 😳

Actually, Arizona DOES have Volcanoes that are located in the Upper West Area of the State. Recenty one of the Volcanoes had an Ash Plume Erupt from it. That Area is also where Most of Arizona's Earthquakes (3 magnitude) happen as well. I LOVE the Phoenix Area and Hope to Move there, from the SW Suburbs of Chicago, within the next year or two. Me and the girlfriend are moving to Phoenix in June of this year from Ohio. As young professionals in our early 20's, in your opinion, what areas would best fit us? People have mentioned to us that we should look into Tempe but I'm not so sure I'd like to be around the super young ASU crowd. On the flip side, we do enjoy a decent night life but typically only go out about once or twice a week. I do enjoy a nice brewery. We defienlty want to rent something (you can probably assume our budget range coming right out of college) but aren't sure about looking at an apartment complex or a full house rental. I'll be working downtown on N Central Ave and she is search of a full time teaching position. We, like many recent college grads, are coming to your city balling on a budget but would like to move to an area were we could still see ourselves staying 5 years from now. Any advice for us young full-time snowbirds? Thanks!

    • @heatherloew9866
      @heatherloew9866 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I just moved from Columbus at the beginning of Dec! I looked for 3 weeks for an apartment & finally found 1 across the Tempe border in Mesa. I'm less than 5 miles from work & there's 17 traffic lights. That's because I have to drive right thru the ASU campus. There's a light rail thru Mesa & part of Tempe & Phoenix. Really do your research on the rentals before you decide. A lot of complexes add taxes, pet fees, water, sewer, trash & maybe even for assigned parking or on site storage. And the rent rate literally can change from day to day when they're trying to get you in. Make sure you call to verify or get it in writing before you sign a lease. Some places have a Look n Lease deal where if you sign the lease within 24 hrs after you apply, they will give you a discount of some kind. Get ready to gps a lot when you drive, because this area is HUGE! But if you are into it, there are a lot of bikes or solar powered razer scooters on the sidewalks. I hope this helps you out! Good luck with your move & enjoy that cold weather & snow for what could possibly be your last full winter!

Thanks for the information about the size of the Indian reservations because I knew that they were in Arizona but I wasn't sure of the size. Patagonia/Sonoita is another wine region. Prob better than Cottonwood/Verde Valley. Def is bigger. If you go to a wine tasting in Verde Valley you're actually likely to get some wines made from Sonoita/Patagonia just because they can't produce enough solely from Verde Valley grapes.

Don't do it! Seriously! ... If you do, make sure to steer VERY clear of a 'town' called Dolan Springs. It's located in the NW corner of Arizona.
I would consider checking different statistical information websites about the state.
Arizona is not anywhere near the top 10 (states.)
115° Summers, and some times 32° in the winter.
... And those really are the only two seasons there.
Oh, don't forget the scorpions, tarantulas, mosquitos (if you live ANYWHERE near water) and the US's most varied collection of venomous (and non-venomous) snakes.
      Best of luck.

Unless things have changed if you have an expensive car your license plates will cost you a fortune. It’s been a while but in Texas I paid 32, then moved to Phoenix where they were about 650. It’s based on value where in Texas it is your vehicle weight since lighter car cause less road damage. Also there’s state income tax which was a major pain. Like having to file and pay your taxes twice. Maybe 3% which adds up.
