Amazing that you were able to get that train wreck working again! Burnt/shorted layers, endless cleanup & replacements of multiple parts, re-balling... Not for the faint of heart and requiring the patience of a saint. Fantastic job and quite entertaining! Thanks for taking the time/effort of sharing this with us!
This is insane! Epic commitment to analyzing, problem solving, educating, editing and repair. Thanks for sharing and investing the hours, Congratulations, enjoyed the win!
The best repair for me (of all the ones I saw you do). It will be unforgettable. That 12-pin IC ST microelectronics (25:05) will also be etched in my memory. Sincere congratulations. Thank you so much for sharing. All the best.
Mind blowing. I love your dedication. Even the best repair people would have scrapped this for that layer damage. Alongwith people, you are helping the planet also. Thankyou 🙏
Thank you! I hate giving up on a device. It would not be good if I was a business. It may take me days to fix something but I usually learn a lot in the process and that has an inherent value I think.
@@ToltecMerc o you are not running a business? Yes true it would not be worth spending time on a device. northridgefix was the first repair channel i watched and initially when I saw him give up on things it pissed me off. But when you think about it, you realise that is how it should be.
@@hphp7587 I will never understand one thing. How people can be so smart to fix electronics, but in the same time be stupid to be so greedy, to avoid "long repair cases", just to fix more easy fixes to earn more money. Clearly they dont want to develop their skills further. With all due repect, everyone is different, but why people avoid learning new skills, when they are given chance? It simply should not matter if someone owns business or not. Board is not working, what can happen if its not working after repair attempt? Broken even more? Almost no chance for that. For sake of XX dollars/euros, someone do not even want to try to fix layer damage. Sometimes its not possible, I understand, but what about cases when it is possible? I hope that channel owner will not mind that I will mention few other channels. northridgefix is OK, but you will never find some detailed troubleshooting with videos of +25min, and unfortunately more and more marketing for his own shop. Some of his videos are purely replacing capacitor. Amount of knowledge transfer by ToltecMerc and Electronics repair school (Sorin) is incredibly higher. Videos are longer, with much more details and there are no 2 the same videos. ToltecMerc with this amount of knowledge transfer, dedication, perseverance can reach 300k subs in future, I am just glad I found him at just 2k subs to support him.
That was insanity, on your end anyways! I often wonder if the engineers are too drunk, or not drunk enough, when they design some of this stuff. A Great Video, and Repair Sir!! Thank You.
Awesome stuff Tolt. I don't hold a candle to your knowledge but I hold my own alright. You do things very much like myself with your thought process. Like re-balling the board instead of the ic. Great fix! Wouldn't expect any different from you 💪
Aleluya she is alive!! Wow, a fantastic repair and I really enjoyed the all process. I have never used your method of reballing, placing solder balls directly to the board pads. Normally, I always reball the ic. Who cares it worked albeit it seems more of a difficult approach.
Probably known, but when cleaning up corrosion a mix of 50/50 water and baking soda works extremely well. It will dissolve a good 90%+ just on contact without any agitation. Added bonus is it neutralizes any corrosion hiding under chips.
I use baking soda and water when cleaning leaked battery acid and capacitor electrolyte from PCBs. I don't think this was anything acidic, just electrolysis from combining water, electricity and metal.
I follow a tech from Argentina that uses a blue liquid he calls Smurf Juice. It chemically removes sulfated corrosión from the PCB really effectively. The channel is called Infosquad. He also uses some kind of paint stripper to remove rust from the board. It would be interesting to see if we can purchase in the US the stuff he uses because I think he makes them himself.
OMG!!! One of the first things I said out laud when this video first started was "No way in Hell will he ever get this one going"!! I did enjoy the frustration of the small wire under the scope soldering down and then back off and down again back off and finally down again. I can't tell you how many times I have been frustrated with small magnet wire jumpers under the scope. Well I do know who to contact when my kid spills a drink in his PS5 or XBOX.
Very true but I don't yet have an ultrasonic cleaner and I'm not sure if I have room for one. I need a bigger work area. Maybe one day. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have not worked on enough of these to say. I would swear that some of the runtime voltages are activated for a very short time upon AC input and then it seems to go to standby voltages only. Have you noticed this?

Excellent repair, not many will go that extra mile to repair this kind of damage & would class it as non-repairable then keep it as a donor board.

What is that liquid at 10:07? Also how did you fill / insulate the hole?
Just Isopropyl Alcohol.
Does getting a new motherboard helps?
