- The French try to invade but the Welsh are having none of it!
Hello and welcome to the Great British Biking Adventures Coast Series. In this series we are travelling around the coast on our motorcycle, a Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer.
A lot of our viewers are bike enthusiasts but this series will appeal to a wider audience. Why? Because there’s so much more to the Coast series than motorcycles. There’s the challenges, the journey, geography, history and people. You get to travel the entire coast of England and Wales with us, see how we did it, share our ups and downs, experience English culture, the history and hear about the people that made Britain ‘Great’!
What’s also good about the coast series is it doesn’t matter when you start watching, it’s like one of those open top bus tours - you can get on at any point and just keep going until you arrive back where you started.
Who are we? We’re a husband & wife living in an unremarkable coastal town in England. We’ve been married 35 years and were brought together by motorcycles. One day, Esther’s Honda Melody broke down and she brought it to Jarrod’s motorcycle shop - the rest (as they say) is history.
One cold February day, we started riding along the seafront and just kept going. We wanted to record the experience to have something to watch in the future - the TH-cam channel was an afterthought. Take a look at those first few episodes to see just how novice we were, cobbling together what little phone footage we had to try to make a story. To make up for our amateur recording and shyness we added information in the editing. This set the tone and style of our videos, we hope you like it. We like to think we’ve improved and hopefully you’ll agree, take a look, compare our earlier videos with the later ones and let us know in the comments.
There’s also the filming and production journey. When we started we knew nothing about filming, video and audio production, editing, TH-cam and the like. We’ve learnt loads and spent loads in time and money along the way but it’s been almost as enjoyable as the journey itself. You’ll hopefully appreciate how far we’ve come.
But what’s with all those bible verses we hear you say. We know some of you don’t appreciate this aspect, one or two have told us in the comments! That’s fine - it really is. All are equally welcome here, believers and unbelievers. It would be a pity if you enjoyed everything else but just stopped watching because of the Christian references but we completely accept you’re free to do as you please.
Our faith has prompted us to include a bible verse in our videos and sometimes a Christian perspective on the things we talk about. The channel is not about Christianity but our faith cannot be separated from it. We hope and pray that it will make you think, inquire and even bring you into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
As we age, I am 65 I have had to go down to a lighter bike. My legs aren’t what they were. I got pulled over in my garage by my fjr1300 and had a few other dodgy foot downs. Now I own a lighter bike with not much sacrifice imo. Fantastic series you have made
Sorry, we're a bit behind on the replies - not enough hours in the day! The main thing is, you're still riding!!! No shame in downsizing a bit. The FJR is a mighty bike, up there (if not more so) than our Crosstourer. It's fair to say the CT doesn't carry its weight as well as some heavier bikes. Not that I've ridden one but I suspect the Goldwing might be easier to handle in some ways than the CT. Thanks for the comment and keep them coming!
Another excellent episode, i think you found the only air line in the UK that does not deflate motorcycle tyres. Looking forward to next weeks instalment 👍
Proper old school air line, none of this dialling in the pressure beforehand 😁
Great ride and scenic
Thanks Nigel. As usual, the video doesn't do it justice. Much better in reality. 😃
Go on be naughty break the rules. Although it wasn't sunny it was dry which is always a bonus, every time i get the bike out at the moment it pees down. Many thanks for sharing again some marvalous coastline. Enjoy your weekend TTFN.
John, you can probably sense that I'm about to go for it but you'll have to wait until next week to find out. The sun is coming!
Hi guys, I'm a BMW rider so please don't hold that against me 🤣. I've just spent the last two weeks binge watching your trip and have found it very interesting. The content, particularly the historical stuff I found most interesting. I look forward to seeing the rest of the journey.
😆 Hi Ian, and welcome aboard. As for being a BMW rider, whatever gave you the impression we would hold that against you 😉. I went for a ride the other day with a local subscriber and got my first ever nod from a BMW. Then another and another before realising it was because he was riding a BMW 😉😁.
Seriously, we really value your kind words and for binge watching the series. I finished ep69 today thinking it might be too much history so your comment is particularly appreciated. Comments like yours are very motivating and encourages us to keep editing the last few remaining episodes. Please keep them coming!
Beautiful countryside. Very similar to Eire plus the dwellings are also painted with bright and cheerful paint. As stated previously your journey has improved this last few episodes. I fear now that there will be a plethora of motorcycles descending on this location 🤭🤭🤣🫣🫣
Wales has so much going for it, we’re just scratching the surface. When are you going?😁
Love how they put double yellow lines on a road barely big enough for one car 🤯 Did you have that bike falling into the sea footage in your head while manoeuvring around the harbour?! 🤐 I'm sure you did 🤣
I was very aware that a twist of the throttle on the DCT and we would have been in the sea!
@@greatbritishbikingadventures 🙈
A very picturesque area, I have never visited there so add it to my ever growing list.
We have booked our stay in Devon for mid June but are going to stay, Wells, Cheddar area for a few days before returning home. Will let you know the exact dates as my wife trying to get extra time of work. Be good to meet up for a coffee or lunch somewhere.
I am off to Wales in may on a bike rally, wife wont go on that one as she refuses to stay in a tent, no en suite. However when we use our caravan we sleep in the awning which is sort of tent. Hey I am only a man so what do I know.
It would be great to meet up. Send us an email (you'll find it in the about section of the channel).
Nice video once again , loved the Bible quote and the piano music . Just keep wearing the appropriate riding gear please .
Cheers John, it was very atmospheric.
Given the size and weight of your bike and kit, there is no need for any excuse if you drop the bike. Many riders including myself would not even entertain some of the roads that you successfully negotiate. Still loving the trip at this end. Keep safe.
Hi Mike, sorry for the late reply - been busy editing and planning our next trip. Thanks for your observations, it's really encouraging. Keep the comments coming.
if you would of stoped in abereiddy you would of seen the blue lagoon shame you mist that one of the nicest spots in pembroke
Perhaps that's why it was so busy?? Good excuse to return but maybe not in August next time. Thanks for the tip.
just started watching your videos and enjoying them very much. Loved and agreed with your comments on Under Milk Wood. Sadly you're not a proper "biker", you don't rev the engine every third second.
Cheers Steve and welcome aboard. I was wondering when someone would chip in on the milk wood comment and glad I'm not the only one. It's great hearing from the viewers, so keep the comments coming!
