3:44 You're not wrong, mate! I've tried chippys all over the country, on my travels on the bike...and Rowlies is easily the best I've been to! I live in Llanelli, and only discovered them about 18 months ago, but have been there several times since. Their chips are so good, I often plan a bike spin to include a stop there! In fact, just a couple of months ago, I rode 70 odd miles from Llanelli, just to get chips from there...the spin was just a bonus! 😀😀
We live in St Ives and holiday in the Tenby area. It's the way Cornwall used to be before it got too crowded and expensive. When we first came here, there were 5 major attractions for the kids locally, now just one and that is expensive. The season now never seems to end and the crowds are always here. We seldom go do the town as parking is almost impossible and it's just too far to walk now, age is catching up with me.
I'm a cornish boy originally. The crime rate is a lot higher because cornwall has one of the highest rates of crimes going unreported. And the highest DIY dentistry problem in the UK fact

I stayed in the Ty Hotel on Milford Haven's waterfront. I agree the town is rough, but the waterfront area is actually not too bad. There's some nice bars and restaurants down there. If you can afford to stay there, Milford makes a good base for exploring Pembrokeshire as it's pretty central.

Haven't watched this yet but I have long said that the main difference between Pembrokeshire & Cornwall is that you don't get charged £15 to park your motor in Pembrokeshire. The secret is out 🤦🏾♀️
I remember going on holiday to Cornwall as a kid in the 1970s - I know some people (especially people who live there) really like it, but I really wasn't keen at all! The coastal bits were nice but appallingly crowded and congested even then, whilst the inland bits seemed bleak and miserable, with lots of scars from clay and tin extraction - and it took forever to get there in those days! I've never been back. I've had some day trips to Tenby and the surrounding area and its very nice, if not that interesting. I keep meaning go to the Pembrokeshire Coast / St Davids area, but its a long long way for me now.
I live in Pembs and the underlying geology here is the same as Cornall (granite) which is why they are so similar. I visited both, Pembs was better for me, cracking beaches, nicer people, cheaper housing, less Londoners. Shit schools and healthcare though!
hmm, Devon & Cornwall was a great holiday destination 20 yr ago, example.. pentewan sands was safe and affordable, now it's guests struggle to insure their range rover 🙃
I’m a field based engineer located in Bridgend (loved your bit on Bridgend in your mid Glamorgan video btw). I regularly take trips to Pembrokeshire and Cornwall and can tell you that yes Cornwalls roads are improving everyday, but at an incredibly slow pace. Once you get off of the duals of the A30 the road network is an absolute nightmare, rush hour or not. On top of that the roadworks are not due to be finished until march next year (it’ll likely get pushed further just like the heads of the valleys has since brexit). Pembrokeshire is the same, they’re currently redoing the A40 into Haverfordwest and beyond which is also an absolute shitshow to drive through. Kinda glad I bought my house at the time I did (245k last summer, M4 corridor eh?).
when travelling to Cornwall I always get wondering why they don't have thr trains timetabled to swap passengers, Cornwall could have a great system of regional and rural trains with feeding busses.
Yes Tenby is great, but Narberth, Saundersfoot, Amroth, Newport by sea, Fishguard are worth a look. You've judged the county by its worst places and missed out all of the best, aside from Tenby.
Probably an unpopular opinion but Cornwall is the most overrated holiday destination in the UK. Devon and Dorset have much nicer places and are a little cheaper and quieter (and easier to get to unless you live in Cornwall). Pembrokeshire is one of my favourites. There are some bad towns but you just go there for groceries and get out. For Tenby try Penally. Only a mile away and can be cheaper, quieter and with a nicer beach.

What an interesting comparison. The problem, I suspect, is that many more people across Southern England think of themselves more highly than they ought, when compared to Wales, with its national identities and mostly shared values and to the Southern English, anything that's in Southern England - even if the locals do speak a bit funny - is much more preferable, than anything else. Hence, for as English as it and its people might seem, Pembrokeshire's main problem is simply that it's in Wales - and you have to pass places like Newport, Port Talbot, and Swansea to get there - even if you stay on the M4! The lower population also means that rail links are not as good, especially in terms of direct services to and from London and othjer English cities. Personally, I'd go there every time, but then I'm not rich or pretentious either!
It's kind of a good thing that it's a lot more inaccessible to the rest of the UK, it's already being ruined by tourists and holiday home owners as it is, if it got the attention of cornwall, would not be good.
The difference is easily explained. One (Cornwall) is in England, has only the council and the UK government mucking it up - and the other (Pembrokeshire) is in Wales. Here they have both the UK government , and councils - but have an added layer of expensive and unnecessary bureaucracy mucking them up too .....The Welsh assembly. I lived in Cornwall (Newquay) years ago, and now live in Wales, so am familiar with both areas. As you say, Cornwall is busy in the summer, and it's roads are getting better every year. On the other hand, Pembroke is quiet,, and the Welsh assembly ( who are responsible for transport in Wales) have said that there will be NO new roads built in Wales. Go figure what that combined with this stupid 20 mph speed limit in most built up areas, and their impending tourist tax is doing for tourism. We live in Wales, and usually go back to England for holidays... Keep up the good work
Pembrokeshire is beautiful. Incredible beaches. It's the driest part of Wales. As you say, there are some rather gritty places which belies its beauty. The place definitely needs a bit of investment. Despite a few run-down towns though it is usually my preference over Cornwall and I implore anyone who has only been to Devon / Cornwall to visit West Wales.

Cornwall enjoyed a period of enhanced popularity over here in The States among fans of the show "Poldark" (Bodice-ripper romance starring the goddess Eleanor Tomlinson, so no surprise there). Interestingly enough, it was Eleanor Tomlinson herself that took a holiday at a place in Pembrokeshire (sort of a really upscale camping resort with posh tents and self-procured mussels for cooking ones own gourmet dinners). She reported to her followers on Instagram what a lovely place it was. Can't recall the name of the place now, but it looked really nice. Of course any place where she takes selfies looks wonderful. She could stand in front of an overflowing tip and it would look desirable.
I am from Pembroke and go there every 6 weeks and as I also live in the west country I can say Pembroke is far easier to get to than Cornwall as its fast road apart from the last 20 miles if you go to Tenby. Property is still cheap in Pembroke but Cornwall has terminal cancer when it comes to property prices. The big advantage with Cornwall is restaurants and culture. Its very hard to find decent dining venues in Pembrokeshire and I know the place pretty well. Also as you mentioned, the Welsh Assembly under idiot Drakeford have done huge damage to the desirability of visiting wales in general !
Shhh! Don't give it away, we want all of the droves to head down to Cornwall, not Pembrokeshire! As for Milford Haven, it has the lovely Milford Waterfront, which has decent restaurants\cafes and small independent shops, we always visit when we're on holiday. Also, Pembroke Dock does have some positives, especially some of the waterside areas a few miles outside of the town
@@risvegliato Can’t disagree with you. Living in Thurso we visit the local ones like Strathy and Melvich, not forgetting Thurso East for the best surfing in the UK. Staying in Ullapool the Summer Isles are idyllic. As you say get a good day weather wise , with the beach to yourself, you can’t beat it. Even in bad weather get the waterproofs on and take a hike. Nature at its roughest and best! Happy days.
The whole Pembrokeshire coast is a national park. It is or at least was the country's only coastal NP (the newer NPs in the south-east may be by the coast but not centred on the coast). I wouldn't say Pembrokeshire is a mirror for Cornwall though; rather, the whole of south-west Wales including Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion is, and would probably bring the population closer to Cornwall's.
I know you hate Haverfordwest but some of the beaches around there are the best in Pembrokeshire. New gale, broad haven and little haven are all must visit
When i was a kid we used to go to Pembrokeshire on holiday all the time . When i was 15 me and 2 mates went on holiday to Cornwall. I was instantly sold . The second i finished my a lvls i moved to Cornwall. 20 years later i still live here . I think ive crossed the tamar 15 times tops in all that time . I just can't stand being out of Cornwall. Everywhere else just feels like the dangerous midlands shit whole i escaped from all those years ago and all i want to do is get back to Cornwall as fast as i can . My parents live in Yorkshire now and i hate visiting. As soon as the bricks turn from yellow to red im misrible and only feel happy again when driving back down and they turn yellow again. There no place like Cornwall the rest of the country is a shit hole it just is.
I live in Pembrokeshire and your 'view' is very limited on visiting the area. What about north Pembrokeshire ? St davids area and further north again !! Just like Cornwall it has many hidden gems and not just a 'one stop' areas to visit. I would love to know where your home town is.. no doubt some 'shit hole ' too !!
Comparisons of overall crime rates can be pretty meaningless when looking at two similar places. A better comparison would be rates of petty crimes, like thefts, vandalism, disorderly conduct, and similar public crimes that have an impact on the feeling of safety and level of risk. Love your channel tho!
West Cumbria is the place, I’ve booked my weeks holiday for second year running, love the place, love the people, and the nuclear reprocessing plant won’t be putting me off any time soon.
probably go cornwall if you''re english, pembrokeshire locals don't often take kindly to english holidaymakers and retirees, I mean you won't be attacked but good chance you won't be liked at all.
West Wales has the worst transport connections in Wales. No trains to Aberystwyth to Carmarthen. Aberystwyth lost thousands of people for the past 10 years now, because lack of jobs and lack of transportation.
@osiand9328 lol I don’t blame you. My family lives outside of aber. The town itself is not bad but when you get out of Aber, it’s just bunch of villages and market towns, very boring. If only aber have fast trains to Birmingham and new train line to Carmarthen that would be a huge improvement but that not going to happen sadly.
@toms986 I agree. Aber itself is a great place but the surrounding area is depressing. To the North and East you have nice scenery but no population and no attractions. To the south you have hundreds of irrelevant villages and terrible roads that means it takes forever to get to South Wales
As unfashionable as it is to say, since the Cornwall Council went Tory it really has seen much better and more focused investment. I hope it continues.
I’ve always gone to both counties…..you get a great holiday in Pembrokeshire,Cornwall is nice but theyre really bored with hosting grockles….whereas in Pembrokeshire, theyre definitely more pleasant to you…
Crime stats are next to useless because they lump everything in together. It could be drunk people getting a bit rowdy in Haverfordwest or serious crimes like murder. I grew up in Pembs and I’ve never known any serious crime to take place mainly because the towns are so tight knit everybody seems to know everyone else.
do wales and england have diferent crime rate rules. there is no way anywhere in wales has that high a crime rate. in an earlier vid you said aberystwyths crime rate was high... no chance. it aint the safest but it ain't anywhere near as high as english citys.
Wait till next year when the new speeding fines hit the crime stats. I reckon at least 400 in a thousand. The advantage Cornwall has is those rainy days you have more options. You always get them in the UK. I expect there are some who still don't realise the bridge tolls have been removed.
I lived in Pembs for many years and found it a refreshing place away from the refineries, but a lot of the people are miserable as sin. There are plenty of nice people too, but the scummy xenophobes were tiresome (jeering and whistling at Black people is _so_ 1950). That being said, for holidays, you'd struggle to beat it. Wouldn't recommend living there though.
Thats not xenophobia thats just straight up racism, which.. kinda of makes sense? Pembrokeshire is infamous for being known as one of the most conservative/tory parts of the UK
@@striderwhiston9897While that can also be called racism, the locals despised all outsiders, including those from other parts of Wales. Those examples were just some of many among our erstwhile neighbours, much of it petty and less dramatic, yet unrelenting.

I'm glad a lot of places in Wales aren't as overrun as some spots in England. Does a lot for preservation.
Awfully difficult at times to work out which pictures referred to Cornwall, and which to Pembrokeshire.
75% 'second homes', most of which remain empty for 50wks a year, bought by rich people, whilst locals are forced to move away.
🤮
I prefer to go north Wales to the lake district. Lake district and Cornwall are trendy and overhyped. I avoid the hype. I need to visit Pembrokeshire.
They’re both the same.Over run by holiday makers in the summer and it rains in both places all year round.
You need to rename the bins in the intro from Council to Clowncil :D
I love this channel ! It reminds us that you CANNOT polish a Turd.
Just don't mention the web feet,
another day, another banger
I live 2 and half hours from Pembroke and I’d still rather the extra 45 minute drive and go to Cornwall.
Saundersfoot deserved a mention, an absolute gem
For empty and fantastic beaches/surfing at reasonable cost visit North Scotland and head west from Thurso to Ullapool .
😅
Absolutely! Miles and miles of golden beaches with no bugger on them. I like Hushinish. lovely beach miles from anywhere.
@@risvegliato
Can’t disagree with you.
Happy days.
@@kra6750 but is there a good supply of pasties.?
@@griswald7156 Not so good for pasties but always the odd dead sheep or seal if you fancy a BBQ.
@@kra6750 doom bar and dead sheep….yeah it could be a thing..
The reason for high crime is mental illness, it’s massive in areas of wales, worst in the valleys, and farming communities
My mother is from Fishguard and my grand parent is from Cornwall.
Tenby in a place where Welsh people go on holiday. The other place they go to is Dorset.
There's a fair bit of immigration in haverfordwest of late. Just saying
Pembrokeshire.. the place everyone forgot about.. strange place i lived there for 10 years..
saundersfoot is a lovely place x
I live in Pembrokeshire and your 'view' is very limited on visiting the area. What about north Pembrokeshire ? St davids area and further north again !! Just like Cornwall it has many hidden gems and not just a 'one stop' areas to visit. I would love to know where your home town is.. no doubt some 'shit hole ' too !!
Weird comment. I love Pembrokeshire. Also I made a stand alone vid on St David’s. And yes I live in a dump which sadly isn’t as nice as Pembrokeshire.
@@Turdtowns ..weird !! just like your content .. on a misleading video.. fair do's thou Pembrokeshire looks good on film 😉
08:45 that dude smashing the scenic route😂
Cornwall is different class. Pembrokeshire is the stone age in comparison.
Two places that I am actively considering for retirement.
probably go cornwall if you''re english, pembrokeshire locals don't often take kindly to english holidaymakers and retirees, I mean you won't be attacked but good chance you won't be liked at all.
Fun fact: The local name for Haverford West is "Have-a-fight West"
It's the same old issue that's seen in most of Wales: Poor transport connections and very low population density
West Wales has the worst transport connections in Wales. No trains to Aberystwyth to Carmarthen. Aberystwyth lost thousands of people for the past 10 years now, because lack of jobs and lack of transportation.
@toms986 I live in Aberystwyth and I can't wait to leave
I would call public transport in Wales a joke but it isn't very funny 🤦🏾♀️
@osiand9328 lol I don’t blame you. My family lives outside of aber. The town itself is not bad but when you get out of Aber, it’s just bunch of villages and market towns, very boring. If only aber have fast trains to Birmingham and new train line to Carmarthen that would be a huge improvement but that not going to happen sadly.
@toms986 I agree. Aber itself is a great place but the surrounding area is depressing. To the North and East you have nice scenery but no population and no attractions. To the south you have hundreds of irrelevant villages and terrible roads that means it takes forever to get to South Wales
Please go to cornwall it's much better😉
NO NO NO PLEASE DO NOT
As a Pembrokeshire resident i always avoid Tenby like the plague, horrible and far too many tourists.
As unfashionable as it is to say, since the Cornwall Council went Tory it really has seen much better and more focused investment. I hope it continues.
plz change up from 25fps, its not enough.
I’ve always gone to both counties…..you get a great holiday in Pembrokeshire,Cornwall is nice but theyre really bored with hosting grockles….whereas in Pembrokeshire, theyre definitely more pleasant to you…
Grockles in Devon...emmits in Cornwall.
@@Afe.j.69 a grockles is in the eye of the beholder, a Devonian spake that there word just..
@@Afe.j.69 is it jam first in Devon?
The road in Pembrokeshire are joke
You should give Telford a try.
Think I’ll stay in TORQUAY AHH The RIVIERA )
Boobies.
Big jobs
Tenby is beautiful...
I live in pembs and find the crime thing mad? I don’t lock my door most of the time? I wonder what sort of crime or where in pembs it is?
Crime stats are next to useless because they lump everything in together. It could be drunk people getting a bit rowdy in Haverfordwest or serious crimes like murder. I grew up in Pembs and I’ve never known any serious crime to take place mainly because the towns are so tight knit everybody seems to know everyone else.
Pembroke and the Dock are a bit murdery
Im welsh ans i prefer cornwal i think it has more character
do wales and england have diferent crime rate rules. there is no way anywhere in wales has that high a crime rate. in an earlier vid you said aberystwyths crime rate was high... no chance. it aint the safest but it ain't anywhere near as high as english citys.
👏👏👏👍👍
Wait till next year when the new speeding fines hit the crime stats. I reckon at least 400 in a thousand.
The advantage Cornwall has is those rainy days you have more options. You always get them in the UK.
I expect there are some who still don't realise the bridge tolls have been removed.
👍
Haverfordwest. Correct, absolute Turd town 😂
Cornwall does not have a slightly warmer climate that is absolute BS. The winter is slightly less cold that is all but the winters are very wet
A lot more empty?
Or, a lot less crowded 🤭🤦♂️
It’s a busy month lay off me 😂😂
@@Turdtowns fair enough pal 👍🏻😉
Cornwall still looks more beautiful than Pembrokeshire.
Problem is both those places just smell, and one is in Wales.
Was this video sponsored by the Pembrokeshire Tourism Board?
Your area figures need fixing - 1375 sq mi is definitely *not* 151 sq km!
I've Been to Newquay a couple of times all the pubs where dead each time only the wetherspoons had anyone in. so much for all the so called night life.
The price of beer has something to do with it, and whether its festival time or not.
