- You really do not need hundreds of horsepower to enjoy the speed. We plan to test this outboard engine to lift the "IGLA" proa yacht above the water by hydrofoils, next year. Then, we hope that 8 m2 crab claw will produce enough power for hydrofoils system.

Wow this really changes my perspective on outboard choice...I was trying so hard to do 9.9 or bigger..
This shows 6hp is absolutely fine for a dinghy tender- really appreciate it thank you for sharing 👍

It's all about the weight and resistance on the water.
pretty good, i get 16 knots from a Mercury 2 stroke 8hp on a aluminium boat that's a fair bit bigger. very happy with that

Cześć, mam pytanie. Z jakim pontonem używasz silnik? Czy to kolibri 280 pp? zastanawiam się nad takim silnikiem i interesuje mnie prędkość jaka można osiągnąć
Na filmie pokazany jest ponton KM260 Kolibri z plaskim dnem. W podlodze wlozona zostala plyta spienionego PVC grubosci 10 mm. Silnik Yamaha 4hp (z dluga kolumna) umozliwia wejscie w slizg po odpowiednim wytrymowaniu silnika oraz wybalansowaniu pontonu. Po obciazeniu pontonu jedna osoba (95 kg+zbiornik paliwa 12L) mozliwe jest plyniecie z predkoscia max 10.5 wezla (ok. 19 km/h) przy zuzyciu paliwa na poziomie 1.5-2 L/h (krotka stopa silnika teoretycznie powinna zwiekszyc predkosc, bo zmniejszony jest opor, choc moga sie pojawic problemy z kawitacja i drastyczny spadek mocy, ale tego nie testowalem z braku dostepu do takiego sprzetu). @@zanderzander-ut9qy Wszystko co mechaniczne jest na pewno awaryjne :-) Ale ten silnik dziala mi bezawaryjnie, jak pozostale Yamahy na ktorych plywalem. Warunek - trzeba prawidlowo dotrzec i serwisowac :-)
How is that doing so well as long shaft? That makes no sense are u not getting cavitation?
To be honest I never faced cavitation problem with long shaft, so far :-)
I notice you are not sitting up the back. Same with my 11' Tinny with a 5hp, you sit in the middle and it flies, you get up the back and it bogs it down slightly.
That's right but without tiller extender it is difficult to move to the front.
Would it make the same speed with the short shaft?
Slightly faster, I guess.

No problem, as you may see :‐)
Fine in smooth waters but short would do better. I've had ober 20 small boats with small engines & sometimes I've even made transom taller by adding 1-2 inch more to make motor have less drag in the water.

In nsw do you need a boat licence for this boat?
I'm not sure, but here in Poland the licence is related to the engine power - below 9HP no licence required.

Nah mate no need. Under 4kw (about 5hp) and under 5.5 meters in boat length doesn’t need rego or a licence in New South 👍

Long shaft on a (sib) why?
Because, I will use it on my sailing yacht, in the future :-)
i have the same engine long shaft with a 275 yam sib. Is it wrong to have long shaft. should i change?

@@tassostsoutis601 looks like depends on your use. If only infrequent then maybe who cares by the look of this.
If you use consistently it might show greater wear and tear over long period of use...but certainly if you are using alot then you want a short shaft anyway even just for the convenience of coming into shore.
I'm sure this is first vid that shows long shaft demo on a dighy, so cool to see in any event.
Edited: for extreme casual use really doesnt matter but if you do use it, fuel will burn faster if long shaft as well..
