    Great video for motor break-in, plus nice review of safety items and instructions needed before going out on the water. Very important. Thank you.

    Nice vid! What’s that thing you turned after starting the motor on top of the fuel reservoir.

    • @BikesBoatsBivouacs
      @BikesBoatsBivouacs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is the air vent. When running the engine on the internal tank you need to open the vent so air can go into the tank as the fuel is consumed by the motor. Thanks for watching.

    Loved blue marsh. Been there many times. Didn't they drain it one time? I have a 98 yammy 4 stroke 4hp. Has the same power as a 6h

    • @BikesBoatsBivouacs
      @BikesBoatsBivouacs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 4 and the 6 are the same engine with a different carb. I don't remember Blue Marsh being drained, but the fishing has improved greatly over the last few years. Thanks for watching.

    So I have a 12ft Jon boat that me and my dad converted into a bass boat. We added a good amount of weight to the boat and we plan on going out on the water together. We also have a trolling motor with a 50lbs battery. I was wondering if it would be all right to go slightly over the weight limit on our boat and get a Yamaha 4hp or play it safe and get a Yamaha 2.5hp. I’m worried about going over the weight limit on our boat but I’m also worried about the 2.5 not being enough power.

    • @BikesBoatsBivouacs
      @BikesBoatsBivouacs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you go over the weight limit the boat may become unstable, this may cause you trouble. Thanks for watching.

    Great video! I see in the comments below that your boat is 14’ long. Can you estimate the weight? I’m thinking about this engine for a canoe that weighs 110 pounds and I’m trying to get an idea on expected speed at 75% throttle. Thanks!

      144 bs + gear fule and motor. I guessing 200 lbs with gear. Thanks for watching.

    Interesting break in process. I just got mine in 2021 and the manual said
    1. Let it warm up for 5min
    2. 1hr Idle it to 1/4 but no more than 5min left there
    3. 2hr idle it to 1/2 but no more than 5min left there
    4. 3hr idle it 3/4 but no more than 5min left there
    5. 4hr you can open it all the way but no more than 5min left there
    And you do all of that with no weight barring on the motor.

    I was just at a boat show and a dealer had a new but 2014 4 horse just like that. I got it for $500. Great deal so I couldnt pass it up, plus 3 year warranty.
    Going to try it as a kicker on my 18' crestliner. How do you like yours do you think it will do ok on my boat? It is a long shaft so it will fit I know.

    • @BikesBoatsBivouacs
      @BikesBoatsBivouacs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it will work on your boat as a kicker. Thiscwas the 2nd yamaha I owned. Always reliable and dependable. I upgraded to an 8 hp Honda electric start with a generator so I can keep my battery charged and run electronics. Thanks for watching.

    new to getting this motors.. what gas ? just normal like for cars or have to mix? also whats the life span on this types of engines ? thanks

    • @BikesBoatsBivouacs
      @BikesBoatsBivouacs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are four stroke motors so you do not have to mix the gas. They take regular auto gas. If taken care of these motors will last in excess of twenty years. Thanks for watching.

      @@BikesBoatsBivouacs Funny that you say that, I pulled up the video to see if you were going to explain the mechanisms because my 4 hp yamaha motor is backfiring anywhere from max throttle to 1/2 throttle. Any suggestions would be helpful, the motor is 6-8 years old.

    • @BikesBoatsBivouacs
      @BikesBoatsBivouacs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@evancurtis128 The first thing I would do is put fresh gas in the motor. If you have non ethenal gas I would use that.
