  • In this video, Chris will be doing an oil change for the upper and lower end of a 1999 4HP Four Stroke Yamaha Outboard. Oil changes are a simple service that is required for your outboard to ensure its longevity. Chris walks us through step by step while explaining the reason we do it the way we do. Also, there are no oil filters are these outboards, so do not worry about it. Don't forget to leave any questions you may have in the comment section down below!

Thank you very much! I’ve been searching so long to find the right video with a good explanation.

Simple and to the point. Very much appreciated. Don't own a Yamaha small outboard motor yet but will be prepared for the maintenance portion on when I do! Thanks again!

Do you buy Yamaha gaskets, or are there others you suggest? I notice there isn’t a link to them in the description. Thanks!

When I changed the oil on my Yamaha motorcycles, I'd leave the key off and kick it through a few times, let the oil settle a coupla minutes, and then recheck the level.

Ahh just to push the oil through?

@@thecollegequarterdeck Yes. To circulate it throughout the gearbox. Then do something else for a few minutes (like change the sparkplugs) and go back and check the level. You got a more accurate oil level reading doing this.
