1:13 is a great yet sad scene. The way he folds into himself as the world continues pass him by, not realizing his struggles and circumstances!!!! Absolutely riveting!!!
Very well made video essay! Your commentary was both interesting and insightful. Also really liked the sound mixing and the controlled pace of your narration
Amazing film. It’s truly sad that many people will see it’s description as a movie about a gay kid and won’t give it a proper chance. It’s a movie about a kid who happens to be gay, though the topics that are explored are not inherent to the “gay experience,” whatever that means. If one is not a homophobe, the movie is obviously a masterpiece. Scenes like when Chiron asks Juan if he’s a drug dealer and then asks if his mom does drugs, Juan replies yes to both, Chiron get up and leaves without saying anything and Juan looks like he’s about to be sick with himself. The scene in the school counselors office when he tells the counselor that she doesn’t know a thing about what he goes through. The scene where Chiron’s mother begs him to believe that she loves him even after everything she’s done to him. These three scenes alone are some of the best pieces of storytelling I can recall, regardless of the story’s medium. In particular, the scene where his mom begs his forgiveness is one of the most powerful moments I’ve ever experienced through a story, it brought me to tears. The only other movie scene I can put on the same level is the final scene of Schindler’s list where Oskar Schindler is lamenting that could have saved more Jews. Honestly, I truly pity anyone who didn’t appreciate the film.
Your analysis, editing, and music choices are so amazing!! I watched a couple other videos on your channel (Room and Her), and you did such a great job on those ones too. You definitely left me with a different perspective on those movies. Moonlight is probably my favorite movies of all time, and you did this analysis justice :)
Awesome video man. I think empathy is one of the most important elements of storytelling. Empathy is essential, and cinema allows us by displaying unique characters and perspectives. Best of luck for future videos. I, myself, also make movie-related videos - if you want you can check them out, and if you don't want to - I don't mind. I do genuinely love this video essay, thank you.
Tremendous. Just found your channel; I couldn't be more glad. I'm commenting this to tell you that please don't ever stop. I'll be here for you mate. Subbed as-well. Have you enabled monetization? 'Cause you totally deserve it man!
Thanks so much, reading comments like this definitely motivates me to create more content. I haven't enabled monetization because I'm not really doing this for the money, plus my videos aren't getting that many views anyway. But who knows, if my next one somehow gets a million views I might have to reconsider!
Moonlight is my favorite film. It has beautiful cinematography, a riveting story and perfect characters.

Amazing video about an amazing film. I am very surprised you do not have more subscribers.
Well done! The use of a Frank ocean track against the visuals at end is beautiful!
Thanks!

That last scene really hit. What song did you use?
EDIT: Moon River by Frank Ocean
You should check out "Loverboy Media", you would like it.
The Wire HBO series did alot of things before this film did
It was a decent movie, but not very original and dragged out at parts. Boyz in the Hood tells this story much better.
Ok Rudy
