You know its funny but he kinda did. He could have made his father seem like an irredeemable asshole but he took the time to acknowledge that his father was "in pain like a motherfucker." He didnt excuse anything his father did but he showed grace, forgiveness and understanding by showing that his dad was in a lot of emotional pain and not handling it at all.
Funnier now knowing he exaggerated his dads abuse for “drama”
@@Shakenmike117 Nah, he's doing what his lawyer is telling him to do before his trial with FKA Twigs. If you look into his history, there's a lot of truth in Honey Boy and I'm sure with some added exaggeration in some parts to it. Still, we all already knew about his childhood with his father as far back as mid-2000s. Honey Boy came out only a few years ago. We've already known about his father and his past with Shia for more than a decade.

Dude this is the best video essay I’ve seen in a while. This isn’t the best movie I’ve ever seen but it is easily my favorite. Never has a movie impacted my life this much, it is truly so special.

How heartwarming that he’s found himself to forgiveness given the fact that his dad literally never abused him. He’s admitted publicly to this. He says that the abuse depicted in this film is “fucking nonsense.”

I was contemplating writing my trauma as a story as well, but struggled with "who cares" and why but...this brings new meaning. Very inspiring for personal healing. I think it's more fully alive in film form: it's living art. It shows all the pieces rather than illustrating one point of view. We are all victims of life.

"We are all victims of life" is such a great way of putting it. Sharing our stories is one way of healing and it can help others who may feel the same way. I encourage you to write your story because there's always someone out who might have gone through something similar. If anything, writing can be a very cathartic process. Sharing it with others even more so. "Don't waste your pain" ❤️
I admired Shia LaBeouf as a boy when he was acting with this essay, I admire him for being brave enough to forgive and by forgiving set himself free. I learned long ago that forgiving an abusive person in my life does not mean that what they did is ok, it's letting go of hatred and fear so I can live a peaceful and joyful life. God bless him he is more than a talented person he's wise. :)
i’ve become sort of fascinated with shia for these past weeks. This was definitely what i needed!!
He then went on to be so horrifically abusive to FKA Twigs who he met on this film. He has a long way to go. I don’t felt as though his heart is cruel and sadistic, but Twigs experienced that behaviour. She needs to heal. He needs help and to acknowledge what he did to her.
I made this video before that stuff had come out, but yes I absolutely agree. I’m sure this would have been a very different essay had I known about it at the time.
@@FramesOfEmpathy Still this was beautifully worded. As I said, he’s clearly in severe pain and isn’t inherently cruel. He should have known not to pursue a relationship knowing that’s how he would act.

The most beautiful essay.
Everyone I know is the same.Only we don't have the luxury to show and fully express ourself.We die daily twice once not being to express ourself and two. What was don't to us.Finally we unselfishly lay down our life silently without any understanding.
I'm so thankful this was the second film I ever saw Shia in. I had heard of him, but only seen him in Holes for the first time this summer when I was scrolling on Disney+. Intrigued, I began researching him and watched this only a few days or weeks later. I've since done a deep dive into his career and who he is because he is so engaging as an actor and a person, and I feel like I was able to start with a merciful perspective. It's made me want to look at everyone that way: before I know what hurt them I want to see them mercifully, loving before judging, even while not denying bad flaws. He has this reality to him that is like no one I've ever seen, except, perhaps ironically, in really saintly people, and I find that so interesting. I'm so glad he is finding healing, and it is inspiring to me to do the same.

I'm surprise "He Will Not Divide Us" wasn't mentioned. It's an important reason as to why he became so hated and a favorite internet chew toy.
I disagree. You do eventually let go of it. You just have to get to the place where you know and feel you didn't deserve it. It's an attachment to the past you let go of, understanding and acceptance makes this possible.

I think knowing how shia treated women in relationships as its come out with fka twigs and how she talked about how abusive he is, i think we can still acknowlege this as a genuine effort to portray shia's relationship with his dad and how that relationship fucked him up while not throwing out the baby with the bath water as a lot of people tend to do. We can acknowledge that the way shia's dad raised him fucked him up emotionally and mentally and is the root of all his issues and still hold him accountable for his actions. A lot of people in retrospect tend to see this movie as shia making an excuse for his actions with this movie and i dont agree with that.
Shia Laboeuf already admitted on air that the storyline and his father in particular was not painted real at all. Shia also apologized for destroying his fathers life by putting out this narrative about his own father. Of course, the actor had a tough childhood nonetheless.
I didnt like the actor choice for teenage Shia , he looks more like a young Matt Damon than a young Shia LaBeouf 😮 that said I think there is more to this story than is shown in the movie , being a child star in Hollywood leaves them wide open to abuse and vile people 😮 we all heard the stories about what happens to them 😢😢

Interesting his Dad was a rodeo clown. Clown is extremely misleading ! Very few have the courage for that job. Those guys are cut from a different cloth.
