Great video Dale, one thing I have noticed in the America videos is the reaction from the Americans when you say thank you to them and they realise you are being sincere. The note in their voice changes. Being polite doesn't cost anything but it's value raises when it's sincere.👍.
I’m fortunate (or unfortunate) to ride these fairly regularly out of Boston (on the other end of the line). While the ride and speed is always great and worth it (imo), those train sets have seen better days and are long overdue for replacement. Those « conference » tables are the only tables that don’t flap about at speed, and so many of the seats will recline even without pushing the button. The airport style boarding at *some* stations is also really stupid, but I guess I can only ask for so much. Great video as always Dale!
We do enjoy an American railroad trip. I have plenty of footage as a pax from NY GC to Chicago, changing at Albany NY. A special trip back in 2018 because a bridge at Spuyden Duyvil was being replaced, as a result, Amtrak were using Grand Central station NYC.
Great and interesting video. It was good to see that the windows aligned well with all the seats. The chicken definitely looked better than the LNER food!
Dale, Im glad that you had a great trip. Too bad President Biden didn’t want to have afternoon 🫖 or ☕️that would have been a very interesting conversation. What did you think of the NY train system? Did you think. It is just as good as the Tube. When you were in DC did you have time to try our Metro ? Did you much of the sights of DC? I there is a lot to see and do like London . Well it’s a good excuse to come back someday. Take care and I can’t wait to next weekend to see your new video
I've always wanted to ride one of those trains hope you enjoy your holiday at New York. And I hope soon you can do Piccadilly line vid soon. If not I hope you'll still enjoy your job.
Nice one Dale. One thing I like about your videos is how real it feels, like I could picture myself being there. The awkwardness of other people, the 5 senses, etc. You get what I mean (I hope lol). Also I really appreciate the effort and how difficult it can be recording in public, as I know for a fact it isn't easy. Hope you're doing well!
I like the idea of the overhead lockers for smaller items of luggage, but the rest of the features of first class didn't seem outstandingly special for the money, though perhaps I'm being too picky! Either way, many thanks for this look at your journey - very enjoyable to watch, as always.
It wouldn't apply to you Dale of course, but when I traveled from Washington the Providence a few years ago, there was a long line for the gate. About 20 minutes before departure, they opened up the gate firstly to people traveling with children and then to seniors (including me). Thought how well that compared with the UK experience (the Euston rush and the St. Pancras scrum).
Neat, you have been to Penn Station. Classic GG-1 engines used to visit that same station. The GG-1 has always been a favorite of mine. Electric powered, from overhead wires. Art-Deco styling to the body. Thank you for taking us along, Dale. 👍
We are hoping for a trip across the pond in the next couple of years, New York and the Whitehouse sounds like a great week away. We love a train ride. Thanks Dale.
That was great. I’ve wondered what American trains were like. I got the impression that Americans flew everywhere. That was great. Very enjoyable to travel with you. And that line at least seems to be well used 😀
While we have some long-distance (think Chicago to Los Angeles) and commuter trains, the trains like Dale rode only run on the east coast, mostly between Washington and Boston. The Acela Express is definitely the flagship train in the US. This is primarily because of the distances between cities and population density. (It's hard to take a train from a small town to another small town if you don't have someone picking you up at your destination because there's often only good public transportation in large cities...though uber has changed this somewhat.)
Acela only has 3 short sections where it can run at 150mph, one section in NJ just north of Trenton, a brief section right after crossing from Connecticut into Rhode Island, and a short section between Providence and Boston. And there are a bit more extensive sections where it can run between 125-145mph, but overall the service is slowed significantly due to the stretch across Connecticut where the speed is 80mph max. The regular NE Regionals will run at up to 125mph. But due to the slow section across CT, the Acela's average speed is lower than LNER or Avanti, despite the top speed being higher.
Hi Dale nothing to do with this video but I just had an idea for you to film have you heard of the HARD KNOT PASS its in Cumbria its a fantastic drive lots of gear work but we'll worth the journey I think it would make a good video anyway just a thought hope you are well all the best, mark D.
Lovely look at the acela it's the first time I have seen anything about the acela there is very little information about it and now I'm a bit more informed thanks to you your a diamond mate over all how did you enjoy the trip to New York this time i would love to know the likes and dislikes of the whole trip, thanks Dale all the best Mark D
Thanks for this. ln all the train stations, airports, and the hospitality rooms, do you ever get bored with them? Or do you enjoy travel so much that you enjoy them all? The train stations always seem noisier than ours. l know you can't at the moment do any filming at work, but now and again if anything happens could you put a little comment in the comments? Like l read this morning that there was a bit of a problem with frozen lines somewhere, but that might have been on the mainline. Or in Scotland.
Unless TfL management changes its tune, that won't be happening! Besides, I am perfectly content with Dale's non-tube videos. His chirpy personality, self-deprecating humor, and English charm make every video of his worth watching!
I can tell you that the only difference is the meal and beverage service. It's VERY expensive and in my opinion not worth the price. Between DC and Boston (the trip I take most often). the Northeast Regional, although slower, is MUCH more comfortable (bigger seats, more leg room, more comfortable seats) and MUCH more affordable. The food from the cafe is the same for business class in both trains but the food on the slower train is more affordable.
They have had the newer Avelia Liberties since 2016 and they're still not in service thanks to Alstom using Amtrak as guinea pigs for their TGVs up in France. God knows when those 8-year old trains will enter actual revenue service there.
@@WildWildWeaselthey have only been testing since 2020. They didn’t even start building them until 2017, so I’m not sure how they could be testing a drawing.

I have to admit it’s not the most first class seats around. However it’s good to have the hot food though.
Great video Dale. Jerk chicken looked really nice! Hope you had a nice trip

Love the video! Have you thought of doing an Amtrak sleeper train?
I have yes. I hope to do one next year
Would you say it was with the cost - looks rather tired but if they're having new rolling stock then it's to be expected.
Lovely animals leaving there rubbish behind on the train especially first class
You should do a amtrak sleeper train
I do hope I can do one next year
We want some Piccadilly Line videos 😂

Hi Dale, just a quick question. What extras did you get in First Class that you wouldn't have in Business?

The railway is the same all over the world. Every thing takes for ever to get delivered
@dalecharmantravels8057 nooo I mean, they got delivered! They've just been testing since 2016

何故かそれはよ-ろっぱのふゆはごかん。😅
When are you due back to the tubes
He is not doing it anymore. TFL stopped him from filming
I am not impressed with the the Amtrak.
That doesn't look like first class 😂
Not much does these days
