If you didn't know, the crossover at finsbury park southbound was used as a crossover for the northern city line back when the trains terminated on those platforms. Same goes for the northbound crossover back when the piccadilly line terminated at finsbury park.
Settle an argument for me, Dale, please: when you pull into t5 sidings, do you use the diamond as your stopping point, or do you look to the side to stop next to the stairs/platform?

Here's an idea for a video that you can do if you're ever bored on a day off and with nothing else better to do (I know, I know: "just stop right there," you're already saying). As a passenger on the route, get off at each stop along the route and film the exterior of each station, maybe add a panoramic view of the surrounding area, maybe also add a brief description. Most people who aren't local won't ever see what's outside the stations, so this would offer a unique view that differs from the typical cab ride. Ok, that's my submission for "worst viewer suggestion ever." Do carry on. 😅
It is some thing I have considered doing. I think it will have to be a job for the summer. Maybe a new series next year covering all the pic line stations

Thank you. Another great interesting video. Do you know what's planned for Park Royal? It was on TFL's list for step free conversion but that seems to have been shelved. BTW, at Park Royal, watch out for low flying cars 😏
I’ve not heard what they are planning on doing at Park Royal. It’s not some thing we as drivers get told about. As for flying cars it was lucky no trains were running or people working in the track. Of cause not so lucky for the people in the car
. . wouldn't be a proper weekend if I wasn't dashing through the dark, "In the pipe, five by five " ( name the film...) cheers Dale, from one of ' Your lot !'
Hi Dale, as you get in the cab at Wood Green, there is a red light in the tunnel. Is that a signal allowing trains to go in the against the normal running direction or simply a fixed red light as we see at the end of tracks? I find your videos quite interesting and relaxing after a day of work. Greetings from Germany.
Hi, I hope that Dale won’t mind my jumping in to answer this - the short answer is that yes, it’s a fixed red light (FRL) just beyond the platform tailwall. A slightly longer answer is that there is also a 'wrong road' trainstop associated with that FRL - this arrangement is generally employed at reversing stations within tunnel areas and is used to ensure that a train is not driven (inadvertently) in the wrong direction. I hope that all makes sense!
@@matthiasplus6691 Yes, that's correct - this is done to prevent a train from being 'rear tripped' (i.e. to prevent the tripcock associated with the rear cab of the train striking the raised trainstop arm and the brakes being applied). As soon as the train is fully past the wrong road trainstop and in the platform, it will raise again in order to provide the required protection straightaway. The wrong road trainstop is on the left-hand side of the track as a train approaches in the normal direction, so the train's front tripcock is unaffected by it (as that's on the right) but, of course, the wrong road trainstop would be on the right with respect to the opposite direction of travel should a wrong-direction move be attempted. I hope that's not too confusing - signalling can be complicated to explain with clarity!
Every station will have a fixed red light or stop board at the back of the platform. This is for wrong directional moves. I also appreciate your support. Thank you

@bartjedj Yes, you're right - having walked down many tunnels during my engineering career with LU, I can confirm those are indeed Tunnel Telephone wires, which are supported from insulators on the wall brackets... and as this section of railway is less than twenty years old, the wires you see there appear to be rather cleaner than in other areas of the tunnels...
Hi Dale, when it comes to your videos whether they are short, long or in-between they are always interesting and though you only film on the one line much like the weather every day is different. That begs a question: Just how much does the weather affect the line? 🤔👍.
Rain is the main issue from a drivers point of view. As we don’t have sanders like main line trains or ABS type brakes. So in the wet it’s easy for the wheels to lock up and put a flat spot on them
Dale, loving the video as usual and looking forward to your next run up to Uxbridge. Hey, just out of curiosity, apart from in training, have you ever had to use the short circuiting device? I watched an LT safety video from the early 80’s where drivers were instructed in the use of them. Looked decidedly unsafe I have to say.
No I have never had to use them. In theory power should be off before we place the SCD down. However in an emergency we can place it on live rails to cut the power if we can’t get hold of any one
Really getting into these videos. Do you have to know all the speed limits as part of your test? Speaking of which did that lady trainee you dropped off at Hounslow West pass her test?
When I did my test they didn’t ask about the speed limits but you have to obey them or you would fail. I have not seen the young lady but I’m sure she would have been successful
Cathay's finance was also worsened by the fact that since 2019 its management has been more or else inclined towards the government as well, when Swire (the major owner) got warned and then the bailout with the pandemic. They lost a lot of good staff when some are fired for political reason and more dismissed after refusing to take a low new wage. A friend is still working in there, but she said inside the company people were quite demoralized and the new joiners were subpar. One night in Hong Kong may not be long but if you can spare 3-4 hours you can definitely go straight to the city centre with ease and comfort and have a great view of the harbour!
Could I have a shout out on your next video I'm a massive supporter of yours and enjoy watching your videos and a question what is it like driving on your own does it get lonely during the job you do
Yes I will give you a shout out. It will be a couple of weeks or so as I have footage already filmed. As for being in my own in the cab it can get lonely at times. Then some times it’s great having no one annoy me 🤣
I thought there was like a loop between Wood Green and Bounds Green, I didn't know this was the process lol. Something that has bothered me for the past few days; if trains are not coming from Bounds Green, why do the track switches make a noise just before a train comes arrives at the platform towards Heathrow? Why not have the switch permanently positioned in one direction until the works are completed? Or is that noise something else?
It gets a bit complicated but the short version is the points have to move to get a train in to the sidings then again to come out. They can’t be fixed in one direction for using the sidings
on the channel called yesterday there is a program called secrets of the underground which is very interesting the latest episode on series 4 episode nine about Gloucester Road they talk about the new Piccadilly trains what they look like what the drivers cab looks like and they are 7 m longer than the trains in-service at the moment, and then building them in Yorkshire and they’re also Aircon inside
When you mentioned about the central line train on the test track, where can they access the pic line? Is there a tunnel or points somewhere or do they have to go through multiple different lines to get there?
I’m not sure where they come on to the pic line. Maybe via the engineering depot at Ruislip or from Ealing Broadway or maybe some where else via a different line

I have done the trip now. It was a shame I was unable to stay longer. But that’s a good excuse to go again
A great program isn't it. Do you also watch the hidden London TH-cam videos from Siddy and the team at the museum?
Have a nice weekend, folks! 😀
You should try add time and date stamps 🎉
Car number 156, one of the better ones to drive?
Dale have you ever had to detrain a train full passengers from in the middle of a tunnel due a breakdown or power cut
Luckily no. It’s not some thing that happens very often
How long does the track last on those "squeaky bits" in the corners?
They last a good long while. I don’t know exactly but I would say it’s several years
Piccadilly Line 1973 Tube Stock
Great video! Do you get staff wifi or anything underground?
There is wifi at stations. I believe some of the tunnel may have it also. However I have not checked
at Hammersmith 48:45 what is the double tall T sign in the 4 foot?
That’s the end of a temporary speed restriction
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Cool! Thanks for answering!
Hi, what are the signals on the right-hand side just before entering tunnel use for I've seen yellow and green only thanks
It repeats the station starter signal. So if it’s yellow that tells the driver and station staff the station starter signal is red
I like being called 'you lot' :)
I thinks it’s a good term of endearment
Hi dale, have you seen or felt anything strange when you have been by yourself,
I have not or not yet any way
Very interesting listening to all your knowledge.will you stay at the job to be an instructor
At the moment I don’t want to be an instructor. They are recruiting for the instructor role at the moment
@@dalecharmantravels8057you would make a great instructor - very laid back yet all the important stuff comes across
Hi. Tel me. In the old days did they run steam trains through the underground?.
I don’t think they did on all the lines. The first line was the metropolitan line between Paddington and Farringdon. They did use a steam train
