Spicy in Chavacano are either: 1. Kahang 2. Pica (from Spanish "picante") -Pronounce this word as "píca" with the acute accent on the "i", and do not pronounce this as "picá" with an acute accent on the "a" for it will mean to have sexual intercourse.
@@firthm2 To be more safe, just use the word "kahang" for spicy or minty, or for anything spicy or minty, and leave the word "pica". You may also use the entire Spanish and also Chavacano word "picante" (spicy), but this is rarely used and understood nowadays especially by the adult down to young adult generations and in the younger to youngest generations.
interesringly enough the KA in KAHANG, is from spanis 'que', que guapa, que hermosa.. Translated to Tagalog, is "KAY" kay ganda.. . HANG.. is from cebuano with the occasional ommission of /L/ in the middle of the word. the cebuano is HALANG..

I would love to make a Tausug video someday too!
Wow, first time kung marinig ito na language. Gusto ko matutunan.❤️
Ako din. Super cool! There are some videos on youtube for learning chavacano....and even better if you can go to Zamboanga
Madali lang po matutunan ang Chavacano, and it's a beautiful dialect,
Me as a Zamboangeño, I'm so proud that I know how to speak this language
Bien proud gat yo
This is supposed to be my native language but then we moved in Western Visayas because of the disputes going around in Zamboanga before. I dont really have a distant memory that i can actually remember of the place but i have some pictures in my childhood that proves i've been there. I never got a chance to learn this beautiful language and ever since we moved i've never been into Zamboanga. Now that i grew up im planning to go back to the place where i was born and maybe learn this language that i should've been. 🙂
Shoutout to those who from Culianan Zamboanga City
Thank you for sharing your personal thoughts and interesting history. I hope your wish of going back to Zamboanga comes true, so you can reconnect with your roots and learn the chavacano language! What year did you leave Zamboanga City?
Please learn it, it's part of your identity and culture. 🥺😔😊
@@firthm2 I asked my mom what year, she said way back 1999 i was like 3 years old at that time so i dont really remember.
@@andresvillanueva5421 yeah if you can recommend some videos to start with.

De nada amigo. con gusto! Ya suscribir tu? :-)
Spicy in Chavacano are either:
1. Kahang
2. Pica (from Spanish "picante")
-Pronounce this word as "píca" with the acute accent on the "i", and do not pronounce this as "picá" with an acute accent on the "a" for it will mean to have sexual intercourse.
Haha thanks for the important clarification. So we better be careful with pronunciation when in Zamboanga hahaha
@@firthm2
To be more safe, just use the word "kahang" for spicy or minty, or for anything spicy or minty, and leave the word "pica". You may also use the entire Spanish and also Chavacano word "picante" (spicy), but this is rarely used and understood nowadays especially by the adult down to young adult generations and in the younger to youngest generations.
Doesn't pica also mean to bite, nibble, sting, chop, or poke?
@Lester Ituralde got it! Thanks!
interesringly enough the KA in KAHANG, is from spanis 'que', que guapa, que hermosa.. Translated to Tagalog, is "KAY" kay ganda..
.
HANG.. is from cebuano with the occasional ommission of /L/ in the middle of the word. the cebuano is HALANG..
Hayy bien makarisan sana muchu pa este pwede mira

Yes, I want to improve too. Now that I can speak Spanish, hopefully it will be easier to learn Chavacano now. It is such a cool language!!!
And by the way, Chavacano is a LANGUAGE, not a dialect. Dialect is the old-fashioned term and not technically correct.
@@firthm2 thanks for you. 🙂
@@firthm2 well ur right, but technically, it’s not a language, it’s a creole. If it were a language then it wouldn’t be comprehensible

the word (bira)is also used in spanish (vira, virar, girar la vista alrededor)it is mostly to turn around with your eyes, scarcely alludes to turn with the whole body. Byra in Greek means beer, and birra in Italian it’s also beer.
you know, i dream that one day. my country the philippines will bring back Spanish Language back. or i would love that Chavcano language will become the third language for the all region in the philippines as a official language.

This is so cool! I lived in the Philippines between 2003 and 2008, and I had never heard of this language until recently! It sounds very similar to Spanish, but it has transformed into its own distinct language. Anyway, I am planning to visit the Philippines next month! This video made me want to check out Zamboanga City and interact with the local people in Chavacano!
I am so glad the video inspired you to learn about the Chavacano language. Did you visit Zamboanga already?
It's really fun how you guys introduced chavacano language. Te amo hablo chavacano. It's really interisting to see this spanish creole from Zamboanga Phillipines especially I have been learning Spanish so long. Shocking fact about local cuisine that Satti is similar with sate (satay) Padang from West Sumatra Province in Indonesia.. Padang is Capital City of West Sumatra. Vale.Bravo amigos
Uste derives from Usted the formal ''you'' in spanish and ''vos'' which is you in spanish but only used in some regions in Spain and some latinamerican countries.
Verdad!
😘😘😘😘😘😘🇵🇦🇵🇦
In México, some people say "Uste" instead of "usted", I don't know why they drop the "d", but the correct form is "Usted"
Proud of my home town! Muchas gracias!❤❤❤
