    Dr Berg notes:
Sometimes, low magnesium is not the cause of your anxiety or sleep problems, and taking it can even worsen your symptoms.
The second part of sleep is called REM sleep. People with higher levels of adrenaline and cortisol tend to wake up around 2:00 am during REM sleep. Magnesium will not fix this problem because the high cortisol levels are not caused by low magnesium.
Stress and lack of exercise can cause poor sleep. Exercise, long walks, and physical labor can reduce stress and improve sleep.
If you find that you have difficulty getting to sleep because of racing thoughts and overthinking, you may be low in vitamin B1. Carbs, sugar, and caffeine can deplete vitamin B1. Taking B1 before bed can provide an immediate sense of calmness. Always choose a natural B1 supplement, not synthetic.
Instead of taking a melatonin supplement, it can be more beneficial to address why you do not have enough melatonin in the first place. Melatonin is inhibited by blue light. Darkness and infrared light recharge melatonin, so try getting sunlight or sitting by a fire.
Vitamin D before bed can help you sleep. Magnesium will not work if you're very low in vitamin D and vice versa.
If you're new to fasting and you go to bed hungry, it can interfere with your sleep. If fasting triggered your sleep problem, scale back, and begin fasting more gradually over time. Try incorporating more carbs at your last meal and increasing your carb intake to 50 grams per day.
Having plenty of sea salt on keto and intermittent fasting is vital. Salt causes your body to retain fluid, so not only will it help you sleep, but it can also help prevent waking to use the bathroom.
If you do need magnesium, try taking magnesium glycinate to help support sleep and reduce anxiety.
    Thank you Dr Berg!
    😺👍

The best thing you can do for anxiety is stop having a permanent relationship with your mobile phone. Looking at it for half a day every day is not good for your mind. My advice is to get yourself a basic phone so you are in touch with your immediate people) and ditch the social media and the Internet. Spend some more time with loved ones , some time outdoors and with animals. Watch your anxiety melt away for good. All the best guys n gals ❤️ enjoy

Same here, bed at 2, wake at 5 am. I gotta say, circadian rhythm is key. I sleep so good in Winter, worse in Summer. It's a pattern. Also, the season light exposure changes yet we adhere to a 9 to 5 or 6 a to 5 pm schedule. What happens is in the summer, the melatonin must be too low and the extra long daylight hours cause late bed time being shifted ahead. In winter, I could fall asleep at 8 pm, 9 pm. In Summer, it feels like I could go to sleep at 2 am 3 am. We're not living like animals..they get up and go to bed with the sun. Humans have it bad.

Dr. Berg, I started taking Mag-G a couple of years ago for night leg cramps, and it immediately took away my cramps. I easily fall asleep early, yet wake up between 2-3AM. Part of that was my guys snoring (he would fall asleep in the living room and come to bed at that time and wake me up) I recently started working out of the home and BOOM overnight my sleep schedule went back to normal and I'm sleeping all night until the alarm goes off. We both started Keto as well. We both notice we feel amazing while we're shredding weight. I take (1) 650 Mag-G daily, and that's all I need. The bottle says you can take (3) I started out at the lowest dose. There is no sense in taking too much if you can achieve your goal from (1) pill 😊 also, I don't have constipation ever. Anxiety often comes from within. Our constant worries about the past and the future taking over our mind and filling us with a narrative we blow out of all proportions. Its best in my opinion to heal this from within. Remember there IS only now. Remember when you are laying in bed warm and cosy that nothing bad is happening at that moment. Its also worth noting that our fears are not likely to happen either! The best thing about it is that its not something you have to achieve. Its inside you right now. Conciousness is the key

Ok Dr. Berg. Excellent video. I have a different situation when it comes to sleep. I don't go to bed until around 1.30 am. The reason for this is because I'm in the Music Business and I work on stage. Sometimes I'm just getting home at 4am or later! If I'm not gigging, my body clock stays up until the early hours. Usually I don't have a lot of difficulty going to sleep, but once I wake up my brain goes into overdrive and very often I'm awake for a couple of hours! Not always, thank goodness. Anyway, to get to the point I found this video very interesting. I have now purchased Magnesium Glycinate 2,400 mg (2 tablets per night) and also stronger Vitamin D. I think they are working a little bit but I have only just started taking them, so time will tell. They were as you ponted out far more expensive but they will be worth it. I have every faith in your diagnosis. Thank you again.

For me, someone who suffers chronically with poor sleep due to what I suspect to be a high cortisol situation, the combination of magnesium glycinate and calcium Lactate works like a charm. Not too much mag though. Even a little too much and I don't sleep. I have a theory that it can upset the balance of potassium, which causes one to not be able to relax. Doing mundane tasks like knitting and sewing really helps me with stress. I have CFS and can't exercise atm.

*Recently I discovered just how low I am in magnesium. There were some issues with blood pressure medication, so had to discontinue it for a while. I suffer from anxiety and have a hard time sleeping too. So, after watching many Dr Berg videos on magnesium, i tried magnesium glycinate in the am and magnesium l-threonate in the evening. The surprise was that my blood pressure is now normal :
115-128/70-76; heart rate also fell from about 82 to 72 bpm. Falling asleep is easy now too, Of course the magnesium dosage will have to be adjusted later as needed. With Dr. Berg sharing so much info and research I now understand how "knowledge is power"! 😊

I want to thank you so much for your content and sense of humor because I always go back and listen to your videos to help me with our crazy lifestyle here at home. I'm a big proponent of magnesium for stress and anxiety and tinnitus as I am autistic and suffer from ptsd and have anxiety issues and tinnitus. But I have never felt magnesium helps me sleep, and while I was working, I had to stay up late until I was tired enough to sleep, even though I took 1000mg of magnesium per day and smoked marijuana. Also, trying to eat a lot of green veggies to get high levels of magnesium can cause thickening of the blood. My wife has this issue because her culture eats a lot of greens and her blood is so thick she has circulation problems and physical exertion causes her chest pains quite often. Good info in this video that most don't know.

How come everyone seems to avoid Magnesium Salts (aka. Epsom salts)or
Mg flakes (more potent) just add to the bath water. This is proven to be the most effective method of getting Mg into the body. The skin is the biggest gland we have. Optimal absorption. Or Mg Oil after a shower.
The added benefit is that it can be applied locally to deal with cramps or muscle aches for example.
A Professor of biology in Birmingham University did a study of a large sample group of people around 15-20 years ago. (Read it a Long time ago). He told them to bath in 100L water & 20% solution of Mg for 20 minutes every day for 7 days.
He Measured their Mg levels before and after 1 week.
On average they improved by about 33%. That’s BIG.
Much better than the trace amounts usually obtained from supplements.
Also, it’s raising the body Mg levels too. Not just the blood Mg levels. There’s a difference.

On behalf of each and everyone of these lovely people that watch and listen to you Dr Berg, I would like to thank you for all your resarch and sharing of information.
You have helped me several times when the medical profession has failed.
Someone I love suffers with poor sleep, anxiety, stress, depression, ocd, mucular pain, Tourette's syndrome and now been diagnosed with bicuspid aorta.
Doctors and Specialists have had this young man on 12 meds a day for many years and he is no better, infact some days are so miserable for him.
Treating the symptom and not the cause and im sure these prescription meds are doing more damage than good.
I'll be researching the information you provide, to help this young man to alleviate some of his issues, he doesn't deserve to be suffering.
So grateful I found you Dr Berg and keep up the good work.

Well done, again, Dr. Berg! My wife and I will now add D(andK) into our pre-bedtime stack. We are both usually sound asleep in 10 minutes or less after lights out. Our stack is 3k mg of glycine in water, Mg L-threonate, Inositol, and sometimes we'll do a Kava tea (my wife get wired about 2 days before a full moon...like clockwork).

I agree, and I guess you are aware of why that is? In the past few years, one person sent in a FoI request to the relative government departments, asking if geoengineering (spraying of our atmosphere with metals and chemicals to control weather) was taking place, and was just fobbed off. Being so bad now, it can hardly be denied.

I have always had an extreme reaction to magnesium when I’ve taken it as a supplement and haven’t been able to find out why. Magnesium is meant to relax you, but it just about knocks me out. I can barely walk, I will just randomly fall asleep when I’m sitting down etc. Even an Epsom salt bath makes my legs feel like jelly. I did a different supplement one time that I didn’t notice contained magnesium and I had the same reaction. I’d love to know why this happens 🤷‍♀️

I am Magnesium deficient, I was studied. I am also taking Vitamin D3 with the Magnesium. My circadian rhythm gives me 3 hours of sleep. No matter what time I fall asleep exactly three hours later I wake up. I am fully awake and feel quite refreshed. when I'm at work I'm on my feet all day and I'm walking about 8 to 10 miles a day. I'm walking close to 30,000 steps. I have a fitnes meter I wear at work to monitor.

I have both issues. I have a very difficult time falling asleep and then cannot stay asleep when I do. I've been a legitimate insomniac for 35 years. I literally drag myself through each day. I live in a fog in regards to focus and decision making. I have chronic headaches and all sorts of serious health issues. Thyroid, heart, kidneys, TMI. At 58 I have simply given up on ever really feeling rested and refreshed.

Holy cow!! You just described me to a tee!! I rarely ever sleep more than 3-4 hours without waking up and feeling more awake than I do during the day when I'm awake!! I tried magnesium but I feel like a sluggish zombie the entire next day so never take that anyway. But I eat TONS of foods high in magnesium (raw cacao, pumpkin seeds, huge salads, etc.) and never have an issue.
I've even had hard physical jobs where I was so beat I could hardly stand when I got home. Nope, still wake up after a couple of hours. Do high intense cardio but then I'm all jacked up and can't get to sleep for a long time, and STILL wake up after a couple of hours.
Great video!! Some great comment in the comment section as well. Maybe I'll find some help here 🙂
