  • Chum Kiu - the second form of Wing Chun is packed with important skill sets and tactics that the Wing Chun fighter needs to be able to apply their art in a street fight. In fact, without a proper study of the forms, there really is no way to fully understand Wing Chun. Sifu Jason, and The Academy have released a new online course teaching you how to do Wing Chun’s “seeking the bridge” form straight from the Ip Man family Wing Chun lineage. Learning this form will expand on the "Little Idea" found in Sil Lim Tao and other forms, develop a strong and mobile fighting structure, and gain new skills that will take your Wing Chun to the next level!

    Purchased the entire Chum Kiu Instructional Video Bundle last week. I can't stop watching it, I'm learning something new every time I watch it. The "Knee to Toe Drill" is training gold. Sifu Jason's personable presentation of the content makes you feel that you're really at his school. I've corresponded with Situ Jason and his Academy Staff (Christine) before purchasing the video bundle, all responses where friendly and super helpful. Can't recommend the Greenville Academy of Martial Arts enough. Not five stars but six stars Sifu Jason, thanks for everything.🙏🙏🙏🙏

    Your vision of this unique martial art is brilliant and I don't think it takes anything away from "traditional" Wing Chun, in fact I believe it actually brings it back to its true roots. Also you get the best of both worlds: you're training with beautiful forms and can do that in the most pure and non violent way, while you're also developing efficient techniques in case of a street fight. Plus, I like your concept of developing strong primitives and applying them according to the situation, as opposed to relying on monolithic methods. Keep that up!

      That’s a common issue for people and one of the reasons we started to extend our Academy family. A few good books I’d recommend:
      My Sifu, Tony Massengill did Mastering Wing Chun with Samuel Kwok. That will give you all the forms in one book (empty hands).

      Another book i love is David Peterson’s Beyond the Pointing Finger about his Sifu, Wong Shun Leung. That’s not a step by step but an awesome overview of the heart and mind of the system.
      Anyway, hope these help and thanks for watching.

      Wing Tsun is meant for particular situations and quick takedowns and knockouts. It's not meant for a sport fight. Put a wing tsun guy against Mma fighter and he will lose every time. Put gloves on Wing tsun and it's not wing tsun anymore

      @@gerardocovarrubias1127 well, you have to understand that jkd was derived from Wing Tsun. Lee himself said that he owes all his knowledge to Ip Man. Wing tsun is basically a matrix of moves for a close range combat and in real fights and situations where you have to react quick it is very effective, but if you enter a pre arranged fight it is useless so thus jkd techniques kick in

      @@gerardocovarrubias1127 well if you know that then you would also know that if wing tsun is matrix you can develop your own style from it. You don't necessarily need to use Lee's matrix for it which is jkd. My Sifu Martin Dragos developed his own versions of Siu Lim Tao, Chum Kiu and Biu Tze per say and each move in form has it's meaning. Art is an art and grappling is grappling

    • @chopsueykungfu
      @chopsueykungfu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My original style was tang soo do. I still practice the kicks 30 years later, I invested 6 years in that system, and plus I do like the kicks. It will always be part of my arsenal, but try doing them in the confines of, say, an aircraft - no way can you apply much of it. I like Wing Chun because it is close quarters, and works in small confined spaces. Its 'trapping' techniques are sometimes criticized for 'not being able to work in a real fight' but I think they are misunderstood. I see them as grappling techniques, and if applied in a grappling situation, they will work. A lot of WC is grappling, and it should be taught as such.

    Wing Chun Onion Kung Fu
    Looking for your feedback and opinions are you interested?
    Learning Wing Chun is one thing using it to win fights is another, as their are many levels to this discipline similar to an onion.
    Noticeably there are:
    1) Movie Wing Chun, based on fantasy and entertainment, that fuels popular culture and none accurate historical evidence.
    2) Historical traditional Wing Chun, based on past masters and boat culture, that fought differently which is now mostly obsolete in the modern combating arenas, that use animal attributes (Snake & Crane) Yin/Yang, Tri-grams and elements from nature for inspiration and guidance, including simple training aids such as wooden posts, ratten rings and hanging bean bags.
    3) Modified Wing Chun, used by those that understand it well enough to use it to fit the situation be it MMA, on the street or Bruce Lee; a direct aggressive warrior approach, favouring realistic none compliant resistance sparring partners.
    4) Imitation Wing Chun, that borrow from it but don't fully understand the cocepts and principles to apply them effectively, usually ending fights quickly and disastrously for the user.
    5) Lazy Man Wing Chun kung fu, where the out of shape practioner using the effectiveness of direcrctness and economy of motion without the need for any type of athleticism.
    6) Health and Fitness Wing Chun, for the feeling and sensitivity aspects that seems to belong to the slappy happy, patty cake system of fighting without fighting.
    7) None Resistance & Compliant Wing Chun, continually practicing without momentum such as Sil Lum Tao, where chi sao is considered to be the sparring, where developing a false sense of security is maintained by only sparring against others in Wing Chun.
    8) Conceptual Wing Chun, instead of developing the necessary skills from scientifically proven working methods of fighting that actually work, preferring to make up their own mind and methods of how Wing Chun should be.
    9) Scientific Wing Chun, a modern approach that combines ancient scriptures and modern science that parallels itself with any and all martial artsists that has proven effective to bolster its own effectiveness; at the same time denounce terminology, lineage and contemporary masters that are considered to only propagate false ideas, confusion and ineffectiveness.
    10) Wing Chun based, that is not bound by any one authority or doctrine of Wing Chun, that is free to explore all aspects and avenues available; that also may contain other systems such as for example Boxing, Silat, Muay Thai and Jujitsu, where the practioner is ultimately more important than the confines of one system.
    Here are 10 noticeably different types or versions of Wing Chun that may fit one group or person, that can inevitably contain different combinations of these in different degrees.
    What do you think about these 10 layers of Wing Chun do you agree with them or not or perhaps you have other ideas worthwhile considering?

    Where do I even start with this video?
    1. Your stance should be deeper. Your hips should be forward. Your knees should bend towards center line, on the same angle of your feet, as if you were gripping the back of a horse.
    2. When you chamber your punches, your fists should hide your elbows from the front. They should not drop below the line of your fist as well as not flaring out on the sides like wings. This will be hard at first until you are able to relax and overcome unnecessary muscle contraction...to be continued.

    • @markmasching2576
      @markmasching2576 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 4 different punches in the system. The punch in SNT is not the same as the start of Chum Kiu, as the punch in Bui Ji is different. The opening punch of Chum Kiu goes to center line and keeps moving to full extension. Do not tighten up your arm. Relaxation is key. Throw your fist like a rock on a string. Any tension at the end of the punch will take power away. (Like pulling a punch)

    • @markmasching2576
      @markmasching2576 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So...you really need to learn a proper horse stance before you can properly shift. Please don't shift from your knees. Real power comes from the hips. That's why you need to learn a proper stance before considering shifting, the power generated from your hip could tear your knees up, but adding that power to a Lan Sao or Bong Sao will send average folks flying.

      The question I will ask is, what is this guy's 6 degrees of separation from the VTAA?

    • @sjd7810
      @sjd7810 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your points miss some basic understanding of physiology and biomechanics.
      First a deep stance puts too much torque through the knee and ankle risking injury.
      Second if you have large Lats ( like me) your elbows have to "flare" as you put it and no amount of relaxing will change that.
      3 extending a punch to full reach makes the elbow hyper extend and become injured.
      On the power note? Engaging the tricep at the point of impact allows for maximum force whereas a relaxed punch does not.
      Those are basic facts on the way the human body moves and functions, something you appear to be overlooking.
      As for MY 6 degrees of separation from the VTAA of Hong Kong?
      Grand Master Samuel Kwok to Master Steven Dyde and on to me.
      I may have a differing view to Sifu Jason but I can't argue with his understanding of the principles and their broad application

He can't do the kicks regularly from this stance. His foots looking ahead. So he needs turn both of his foots in turning. And he turning on his heel. He doesn't clench his knees. It is totally fake. So all part of his stance are wrong. His muscles are impressive but his moves are disappointing...
