I'm a chinese learnt wing chun (but not long time), I would say that many wing chun "user" on youtube didn't perform wing chun well becoz they only knew the movements, they knew the theory, they practised very well but they lacked of something important to use wing chun properly. Wing Chun is not only a set of movements controlling the enemy, Wing Chun is a spirit, a way of being alive person, you should "use" it as a whole part of your body and spirit, you would aim on what you want so as to adjust your movements for the reality. Many fake kungfu masters have the same problem, they just use it to fight, but they don't use it to live, I mean the principles of Wing Chun, they don't really get it, they just want to be like in the movie or something they imagined very good, but it has to be knocked out by anyone even normal people... however, if anyone want to blame KungFu is useless, please be noticed that, there is no useless KungFu, but there is useless person.
The EWTO teaches Blitz Defence and reakt Tsun concepts and that is practically what you are showing here. In Wing Tsun (Chun) there has to be universal solutions that can be applied for any situations, especially the street. Love your videos. ❤
@@dagaffer2269 I know wing chin guys that can take out mma guys like they were butter.. but our tools are banned. A big part of wing chun is hitting the throat and the eyes to set up punches. @@JKDVIPER Funny there isn't a single video of a WC guy winning a street fight or any MMA. A lot of WC guys were boasting about Tony Ferguson being a WC fighter. Until Justin Gaethje beat 10 tons of shit out of him with basic kick boxing techniques.
Please don't take this as disrespect. But I'm going to ask if you can create a companion video showing a real jab. As a boxer - arm length and speed are crucial elements not being shown here. As well as the stutter fake ( Tyson Fury loves doing this, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s is almost imperceptible) Maybe if someone doesn't know how to fight they might leave their arm out there to trap, but a boxer will test the waters with a light jab and if you attempt to trap and it fails, they'll set up a stutter fake double jab and follow with a straight. IF that doesn't take the wing chun practitioner out, then the boxer will have lost due to closing the gap and being in close range for trapping, etc. As always infinite respect and you have another excellent video.
Honestly I don’t need to. Here’s the deal, we don’t wait. We have no clue if someone on the street is a boxer, wrestler or bar drunk. So, we JAM IN immediately. Not going to wait to see if you jab correctly or not. If it’s a fight, I’m going right in no matter what.
As a noob, the first thing I could block is using with Bong Sao for any punches. I kinda need to improve my reflexes in order to save my ass. Wing Chun was meant to express like a meditation and for defending, avoiding unnecessary violence. I had my anger issues. I expressed out without casualties by venting through Sil Nim Tao.
Lol. The best way to stop a punch is to punch first. Lol. That was Lees' motto too. Hit first, fast and hard. Mine. The best defense, is a great offense.
Having sparred in kickboxing, I can imagine how much I want but when you are in the sparring or fight you don't know what the other person will throw or when and how it will come. And the nervousness 🙈 Sadly there is no Wing Chun Schools nearby to where I live. But the forward pressure concept and using the whole body as you explain and show is really interesting.
The most effective way to stop a punch 🤜 is by parrying the throwers fist directly onto your elbow. Resulting in the attackers fingers being broken when enough force is applied. Therefore no attacker will want to carry on his attack with one hand. Simple.
My art has a lot of Chinese blocks and strikes. I recognize the “poc” down block followed up by a straight punch and other strikes.. I see a lot of similarities in your style.
Awesome video awesome techniques.. I would also like to ask you could you put a video on for the older people out there how to protect theirselves when they have poor health or definitely when they have problems breathing. I think that would be a big help to the older community also with anybody that has a breathing problem young or old that would be a big help to the community God bless brother definitely appreciate you and for what you're doing for the community you are a awesome teacher God bless brother
It’s Combat…Not sport. It’s for a bar. Bathroom in a nightclub. In between two cars in a parking lot. Fast ,violent, it’s not pillow-fighting with rules…
You’re right and while I agree with the concept of striking to the centreline and not chasing punches; the reality is that it is the hardest concept or principle to apply. The danger is inexperienced practitioners will take the theory literally as the solution and it’s not. These principles require thousands of hours of sparring and fighting for it to work. If you don’t do that then all it is, is ‘theory’ and let’s face it: there are many WCers that ‘talk’ theory and lack genuine ability or experience.
The principle is sound, if U also nail it hard enough to stop their follow-up, but if U hit first too early, the DA is going to eat U alive when the other guy & his witnesses drag U into court.
Reminiscent of the opening scene in "Heartbreak Ridge" (1986) when Clint Eastwood is attacked in a holding tank jail cell with a locking back knife. More importantly someone may never really be able to completely block a punch but it could be greatly deflected and attacked at the same time ?
The reason you do want to wait until the fight starts, is because nearby in the shadows, there may be a police person, that will jump out and attempt to arrest you for starting the fight. This happened to me, as the guy was raising his hands I punched both his hands to his sides and pushed him away in two, fast and accurate, motions, because I chose such technique, they let me off due to my claim of self defence.
I think bong sau is the most wasted used technique. I think its only good when you are fighting up close, otherwise it limits your ability to attack. I like how you use the kwan sau technique to jam, which is good and reasonable. I feel there are more efficient ways of doing things though on those strikes, but like you said, striking first is what matters the most and advancing forward.
I’ve always wondered this, why is it that you are always covering the opponents arm that’s already punched in between your own counter punches? Like after your initial defense you keep RE-pak-ing their spent arm that’s already done punching. I’ve noticed a lot of people in these circles doing that. It seems to really slow your return combinations down and prevents you from turning your hips into your follow up punches. Not only that, but I don’t understand what you gain from that. It would be really odd for him to throw another punch on the same arm, especially if they haven’t RE-chambered it yet. It’s much more likely that the next punch would come from the other side so I’m not sure why you chose to sacrifice the fluidity, speed, and power of your own return combination for the sake of covering an arm that’s already punched. That being said, I think it’s extremely unlikely that the arm would still be there frozen in the air for you to cover after they’ve punched anyways. It doesn’t seem like an advantageous trade off to me. Like you said, if you can it’s better to land first, so it seems like it would be a better deal to prioritize the fluidity and speed of your counter combination after the first engagement instead of prioritizing covering the arm that’s already spent. Curious what your thoughts are on that.
I would love to see some moving continuously in order to see a flow between to artist is so peaceful. I was unable to find any sparring or moving in your videos do you have any other than the one step demos?
@@IzzoWingChun Respectfully, I was assuming that you would have implemented your Wing Chun into a sparring session otherwise how does it translate to defending oneself against a style or blended styles that do train including sparring and continuous movement? @@0331mike I agree this would not work in the street as you would need to implement continuous movement and kinetic energy in a disciplined yet aggressive manner that I do not see demonstrated in these One Step videos as for their cardio I'm uncertain as to how good it is or not the one thing I have learned in my journey looks can be deceiving and it's hard to judge a book by its cover

I think (yes, I do that sometimes) that the forward drive might be what’s missing from most Wing Chun.
The big men laying it down. Handy hints Iz. ty boys.
fantastic moves in response to that over hand right...As long as the puncher freezes at the point of near contact....
fantastic comment for someone who didn't watch past that part.
Finally good info ,make complete sense ,,can practice on your !!
Welcome Back.....
The EWTO teaches Blitz Defence and reakt Tsun concepts and that is practically what you are showing here. In Wing Tsun (Chun) there has to be universal solutions that can be applied for any situations, especially the street. Love your videos. ❤
Basic wing chun 101 “Don’t ever try to catch the first action” taught in every school in every place that exists..
Doesn't seem to work against MMA.
@@dagaffer2269 I know wing chin guys that can take out mma guys like they were butter.. but our tools are banned. A big part of wing chun is hitting the throat and the eyes to set up punches. See my point? Our techniques are banned for the most part? If you’re talking hand for hand in a street fight? Who’s the wrestler? Who’s better with the hands?
@@JKDVIPER Never saw one WC guy win a street fight or a MMA fight. They all get banged out with an overhand right in seconds.
@@dagaffer2269 that’s because you’re going by videos on TH-cam and opinions from people biased against traditional arts. I am an MMA guy, I was captain of my wrestling team. I’ve been doing KUNG FU in one form or another my whole life. Wing chun is absolutely dangerous. A trained practitioner can put you away in seconds. One hit. The really good striking you see in the ufc? Derived from wing chun. Vertical fist interception. Ask Anderson Silva if you don’t believe me. Hear he saint pierrre even says he uses it for street fighting not his wrestling or boxing. He said he hits the throat..
🔥🔥🔥Subscribed!!! He was right!!! 😀
Another excellent video. Your Keeping the art alive. 👊
very good. close the distance and take away their leverage. great technique and practical as well.
Lol. The best way to stop a punch is to punch first. Lol. That was Lees' motto too. Hit first, fast and hard.
Mine. The best defense, is a great offense.
What’s your audio mixer in the background on the shock mount rack?
Great skills
Every block is a strike … every strike is a block
I agree but why are you not turning on the feet an hips
Great advice
I wish Master izzo was here in Cleveland Ohio. Or me being in Chicago
Having sparred in kickboxing, I can imagine how much I want but when you are in the sparring or fight you don't know what the other person will throw or when and how it will come. And the nervousness 🙈
Sadly there is no Wing Chun Schools nearby to where I live. But the forward pressure concept and using the whole body as you explain and show is really interesting.
Great info thanks 👍
Great guy and thanks for your service as an officer also.
I love the way you explain the variety of ways of every move. Peace and blessings 🙏#IzzoWingChun
The most effective way to stop a punch 🤜 is by parrying the throwers fist directly onto your elbow. Resulting in the attackers fingers being broken when enough force is applied. Therefore no attacker will want to carry on his attack with one hand. Simple.
Easier said than done. Besides, there’s a fundamental Wing Chun principle that states,”Go after the body, not the limbs.”

TRAINING IS THE KEY 👍❤😳. COMEBINE WITH(SPEED ) ...
Cool video sifu
Good clear explanation...really couldn't ask for more. -Thanks! ;-) I'm just a total 'beginner' trying to garner more info. about this style.
Great to hear!
You only....intercept by..moving forward.
Keep nullifying the threat by aggressiveness UNTIL the threat is gone and or run after
My art has a lot of Chinese blocks and strikes.
I agree with you so much!!! I would literally love to take elderly people to wing chun classes and tell them its "just exercise class"
I saw an alleged Wing Chun practitioner go in the cage. It didn't end well for Wing Chun and it didn't take long either.
I've seen a lot of MMA guys lose in the cage too. Horses for courses.
It’s Combat…Not sport. It’s for a bar. Bathroom in a nightclub. In between two cars in a parking lot. Fast ,violent, it’s not pillow-fighting with rules…
@@seanmay3605 exactly. No gloves. No rules. The girls at my class were training with actual butterfly knives yesterday lol
@@seanmay3605 So it just doesn't work in any other form of fighting? LOL
Thank You SIFU Izzo.

Amazing video
Totally agree, strike first, faster then him
Great advice! I agree 100%!!! :)
The principle is sound, if U also nail it hard enough to stop their follow-up, but if U hit first too early, the DA is going to eat U alive when the other guy & his witnesses drag U into court.
It is how you articulate the force you used.
Wow I like this
Damn you guys make it look so easy and also the worl it takes...some are just natural though. Awesome stuff love it!!!
Of course there are exceptions to the norm, but generally action beats reaction.
Right and left jabs ?
What is the conditioning for this one
Good comedians
Love these vids!
I would love to see some moving continuously in order to see a flow between to artist is so peaceful. I was unable to find any sparring or moving in your videos do you have any other than the one step demos?
Because “sparring” isn’t Wing Chun.
@@IzzoWingChun Respectfully, I was assuming that you would have implemented your Wing Chun into a sparring session otherwise how does it translate to defending oneself against a style or blended styles that do train including sparring and continuous movement? I am in no way being inflammatory I just don't understand if you fight like you train but your training doesn't include real life contact sparring how does that work?
@@davidelam7869 you assumed wrong.
The answer is it doesn't work when you go live. That's why there are no videos of it. And neither of these guys have the cardio to go live.
@Izzo Wing Chun i would like to ask, is it possible to use bong sao against a swinging overhead right hand?
What is the best defense and counter against a swinging overhead right hand?
Its all about timing. What you could do is hook the bridge. You do this whit tiger palm or buddha palm circkular from inside out like tansao but palmforward or downward. Its used to trap watch the old masters you will se the combinations.. Shoilin shows us how to use wingchun. Do not get stuck on the movment itself its the angles my friend. Its the angles. A Good concept for training. Close your palms dont use the hands. Imagine the arms being swords or batons. Angles comes into play. Higher levels moves into internal stuff. I found it wery much harder.
We're do you train where is your location I would like to further my wing Chun I like how you get to point realistically .
I would love to learn from you.
