She is regular there, they lock her to not hurt herself. Post Scriptum: They mentioned that she is more danger to herself then to anyone else. Also, being locked in cell and being let out when she back from Wonderland is definetly better alternative then early 20. century mental asylums. I think I should add that those two policeman were two of four people who were nice to her without any side-motives. The remaining two are Nan Sharpe (her former nanny) and Heironymous "Harry" Q. Wilson (doctor who did the best he could).
American McGee is making a 3rd game, which is set before "American McGee's Alice", they're currently working on it, it'll be awesome. It's called Alice: Asylum.
well burton had his chance and it´s not dark at all, i also hate all this singing in his movies, but tim burton is damn good in making dark characters, well originally it was a childbook story, but this version the (McGee) version is darker, more violent and more interesting because Alice is insane and adult, this makes it a good mature movie, but i need to say, it could be a lot darker than that and without an happy ending.
@@enderethan144 Between Hans Christian Andersen, Lewis Carol, and the Brothers Grimm with the originals they're already plenty dark they just lighten it up a bit to teach us warnings as children
I have been through so many phases in my interests and fandoms. I’ve been through horror movies to emo bands to musical theatre. But my love for this game has never died. Everything about this is true genius. It always takes my breath away. And I love how Wonderland is a symbolic portrayal of a mental state, not an actual place. It adds much more to Alice’s character.
***** its all pretty good besides the goddamn later 2 wall monster puzzles and that underground puzzle. those were so needlessly difficult. but hey I guess you can consider them the games water temple.

For those like who just want to understand the story of the game I've made a shortcut to most of cutscenes. 0:10 - 2:27 * alice with doctor 6:25 - 7:35 * memory of an old lady 22:16 - 22:40 * FIRST "MEMORY KEY" 45:11 - 45:34 * SECOND "MEMORY KEY" 1:01:55 - 1:02:33 * memory of a fat lady 1:04:51 - 1:05:53 * memory of some dude 1:17:32 - 1:18:04 * THIRD "MEMORY KEY" 1:41:49 - 1:42:35 * FOURTH "MEMORY KEY" 1:48:53 - 1:49:25 * this is not a memory, but I feel like it's important for story 2:03:34 - 2:04:17 * FIFTH AND FINAL "MEMORY KEY" ALICE CONFRONTS HER FINAL ENEMY (I feel like I've avoided the spoilers there:)): 2:07:03 * Just watch everything with a bit of gameplay from this point till end
+Jacob Dahl You may be right instead of a happy ending fairy tail the worse has yet to come...full of MADNESS...not everything is always what it seems to be...
This game had one of the most disturbing(but also impressive) openings I have ever experienced in my 14 years of gaming. Noticed it to be a masterpiece from the start. Man I do miss that sensation when I made it to the end of this game
My favorite part was when alice grew really tall and the executioner dropped his scythe with his mouth wide open and alice had that "yeah bitch" expression XD
It wouldn't need to be the copyright to the movies, since they're based on Grimms Fairy Tales, and those can be used by everyone who wants to use them.
Not really I think its one of the most sane thing she's said She understands she's kinda stuck with having hallucinations so she accepts reality and wishes for it to just suck less
This game is creepy and bizarre, but OMG that scene where she ate the cake and grew larger (making that card guide drop his sickle), downright the best scene in my book.
For me as a former mental patient, watching this is somehow frightening and agonising, but exiting in the same time. Someone very realisticaly depicted how it looks inside our minds, and how every memory of a mental ilness, even when you are mostly healed, is so deep and painful wound on our souls... It also depicts how medical workers doesn't give a fuck to understand, and common medical treatment can make more damage then healing, as it happened to me when I was 14 years old.
This game was such a psychotic trip. Not only does it show you a more dark and mentally unstable Wonderland, it kinda informs me of people who have such issues and it makes me feel bad some people have to live with it
It’s not so bad if you get proper help and continue to work with it. Sometimes it’ll get bad but other times it’ll be fine. It’s actually werid when I meet someone who’s not depressed or anxious or anything else, it’s actually quite strange
The music in this series is awe inspiring especially. That scene in Barrelbottom is inarguably the most violent scene I've ever seen in a game, even model ones. It's still haunting.
I don't know how to say this but American McGee's dialogue writing for Alice is really fascinating. It's whimsical but has direction and meaning at the same time. It's a bit hard to replicate or emulate.
If you haven't noticed, whenever Alice talks to Cheshire, The Red Queen, or anyone inside, she doesn't clarify too much what she's talking about, never goes into specifics about what she wants or needs from said individual. This, imo is because Alice is practically talking to herself. Thinking of herself in from other perspectives to solve her problems. I wonder if there is a term for this in psychology.
Yay, child abuse and sex trafficking! I love how Alice's aunt genuinely tried to help her niece in a progressive way, not manipulatively or abusively. That old boomer woman probably was more verbally abusive than we give credit for, that's why Alice first went to Wonderland after she saw the hag change form into a monster.
I think its because she was also looked down on by society. Being a brothel owner probably wasnt a position of high respect. Plus, according to the old lady, its kinda implied that mentality unstable girls ended up as prostitutes, so she have more empathy and understanding then most. Personally its a subtle way to show the hypocrisy and cruelty of the "upper class" or the "respected" of victorian society. None of them actually cared about alice getting better, they only cared what they would get out of it. Ironically, the best person was the low class harlot.
The nurse (old boomer woman) recalled Alice's "confession" that she might've been partially responsible for her family's deaths, so she blackmailed Alice into paying for her alcoholism in exchange for her silence. When she turns into a monster, that monster resembles the Jabberwock, which is the dragon-like creature from the original stories and the previous game. In the last game, he embodies Alice's guilt and belief that she deserves her suffering, so the nurse (who takes advantage of her guilt) is the embodiment of that in real-life.
@@painterguy6469 - It would've been manslaughter, not murder, since she didn't mean to do it (she hallucinated that Pris was a monster, so she instinctively pushed her out of self-defense). But Pris still survived in that draft; Alice just ran away, thinking she'd died.
I remember as soon as I saw the "Eat Me" cake (knowing that it makes her grow in the original stories), I remarked, "Time to pick on someone your own size," without realizing that Alice would grow to be much, much bigger than him. So I laughed when he just dropped his weapon and froze in terror.
I never played the game, I barely watched a few playthroughs and cutscenes, and yet, I can sort of see the reason, why this game is so scary. It's not even the excessive blood, gore, and body horror, it's the fact, that Alice is a child. A girl, that went through a series of extremely traumatic events, and had nobody to turn to, because in the end, every possible somewhat reliable figure in her life betrayed her in the end. And just knowing, how many horrors she went through, and what she sees, and how much torment this orphan has gone through, it not only makes my heart break, but also feel really really bad for her.
great vid, very well edited^^ i just watched the scene, where the giant joker watches alice grow into a giant and drops his scythe in shock before she crushes him^^ that look is too awesome ^^ only little flaw in my opinion: they shouldve let alice wear her queen-of-hearts costume as a giant, its a bit confusing to see her suddenly back in her normal attire, ripps you out of the mood of the story, so to speak.
Did you all noticed that "The carpenter" tried to protect Alice by putting one hand on her chest and the other trying to stop the train?. Really good :3
Ah Alice the Madness Returns great game, it doesn't rely on jumpscares to make it into a good horror game. The monsters in the world do look like nightmare infused monsters, and it's more like a psychological horror then anything. Actually this is a sequal to American Mcgee's Alice if I remember and yes it does have some of the characters from the original game, and there are settle hints to the original game too! The Jaberwocky, and the Dutchess (who well tried to kill and eat Alice in the first game.) Cheshire is the same like in the last game (though I do like Alice's reaction too this Cheshire) I am just seriously happy they left out the screaming banchee out of this game. I just wish they got some of the old weapons into this game oh well. Well please do correct me if I am wrong. Overall this is a mind twisting, and overall fucked up game and I love it!!
Fun fact {with spoilers} ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ Later in the game “Fran Bow”, you can come across an Easter egg in her closet (when she’s chained to the bed). You’ll find a photograph with a younger Fran and another girl. You find out she’s standing next to a friend of hers named ‘Alice’ and she tells Fran all about a “wonderful land”.
everything about this game is really appealing to me.the goth vibe, the soundtrack, the outfits, the cutscences looking like theyre from a storybook, etc.its all blends in really well.
Watched it like a freaking movie and I'm dying to see other Disney creations twisted to this Tim Burton and Stephan King masterpieced design and outcome.
moonymonster in the end Alice kills bumby in real life and in wonderland. Londerland is a representation of both worlds in harmony again. Read the plot on the wiki page and you'll understand
Wouldn't it be crazy to enter into the minds of others like this? As Alice falls into her subconsciousness, we could fall into the subconsciousness of our friends and family.
***** Like we'd dream what others are thinking, and when we woke up it would be like how it is when we try to remember what happened. Usually I get a trigger throughout my day and I remember my dreams. I think that'd be awesome. To find out what a person's genuinely feeling at its most raw.
Do all creeps look like Dr. Bumby? There is this trope for antagonists to have beards and glasses and a passion for their work. Professor Mark Jefferson from Life is Strange looks that way too.
I love the way this game represents PTSD and the metaphorical representation of how devastating forgetting can be. I've lost so much of my life to PTSD, so many memories. when it comes to forgetting them, the good often falls with the bad.
+bloodyrose1985 teeth are sometimes associated with memories, ( like in 'Rise of the Guardians' the teeth are supposed to hold childhood memories) is how I've interpreted it, so when you collect them, it means you are regaining some of Alice's memories.
Dreaming with teeth is equal to things you've lost, dreaming with falling teeth things that frustates you / things you've forgotten, dreaming of falling and growing teeth at the same time it's people you've lost through your life and want back even if they hurt you in the past. Teeth in general represent childhood memories.
its like franbow the plot the pills the doctor how alice was trapped in her past but franbow her parents were killed by a monster not a fire...but franbow's wonderland is different
I think in the last part where Alice talking to the doctor when she get the key of lizzie's room and turned around the doctors's reaction is shock it must be Alice is like lizzie when she was at that age or he was surprised when Alice is changing
If a person, who I know very well how insane is, who has rightfull reason to hate me with every brain cell, who I expected to walk away defeated, suddenly turns around with that look in eyes, I would have the same face. Also, I think that Alices dress there was just in her imagination, symbolozing she is not that weak girl who is forced to take everyone crap but her confident Wonderland self who don't take crap from anyone.
"Only a few find the way, some don't recognize when they do, some never want to" aaaah my dear wise cat 😻!!! who would ever know that we can find some wisdom in such a game?!!
This game was super hard to get through, but it's so fucking worth it. Every level is a psychological trip you're on. Most people really didn't expect how dark this game was, and I love it.
Ironicaly, this was made under EA who is responsible for that lot of things stayed as an concept art. For example, the train was supposed to be full location lot just an end game coridor. One if the funnier exsmples is M-snail, EA wanted lot of blood and gore to get M rateing so Mc Gee came up with the idea of snail made of reproductive organs. I thing that betther phrase woulkd be: When the game is made by padionate artist, not money counting salesman.
I heard a few years ago and read on wikipedia that they were planning a movie based on this particular game. So what happened with that, did they scrap that idea?
There’s a very important lesson in the madness of this game: don’t forget the scars that shaped you. When we go through something traumatic or painful, we want to forget it. Erase the existence of the event from our brains: along with the pain that accompanies it. That, at least, was what the Doctor believed. “Memories are more often a curse than they are a blessing.” Of course this could just be his way of covering up the severe mental torture he subjected his “patients” to, but nonetheless it is a real mindset that people possess. If we find that a particular memory is simply too painful to bear, we would rather forget. Lighten the burden. But forgetting can carry horrible consequences. If we allow ourselves to not experience pain and allow ourselves to build up and grow from the trauma, we become hollow. If one forgets many events, they can get carried away and start forgetting themselves. Piece by piece they deconstruct themselves, ripping off the pieces that they don’t need or desire and discarding the painful parts as they see fit. As a result they become broken, as they’ve removed parts of who they are as a person. Alice represents the good aspects of going through the pain and not simply forgetting because the memories were too painful. As a result she became headstrong, determined, confident in her own opinions and beliefs. She REFUSED to forget who she was, because what she went through was a part of her. I doubt Alice was mad so to speak, but more rather trying to rationalise her emotions and those around her manipulated her into blaming insanity as the cause of her turmoil. The game is correct: there is truth in pain. Which means that the pain itself is much too important to throw away. To lock up and to forget it even exists.
My favourite characters in this would have to be the Cheshire Cat, Alice Liddel, the Mad Hatter, the Carpenter and Lizzie. Even though all the characters were brilliant. It was so hard to choose from them all! I love this game and I really hope that they make a sequel to this. The Cheshire Cat cant just leave us a cliffhanger!
I love Alice's style in her outfits for each chapter, can't choose between them all which is my favorite. But her original blue dress I love, goes really well with her green eyes.
I was a child when I played this game and I didnt know how dark this was, all the darkness I thought about this game was it was gruesome and gorey, I didnt know about the psychology, trauma, prostitution, torture, and others.

American McGee is making a 3rd game, which is set before "American McGee's Alice", they're currently working on it, it'll be awesome.
It's called Alice: Asylum.
Well, it's really a proposal, but it would be awesome if it were made.

well actually this would be the second movie in the series....(first is american mc gees alice. then its sequel, this) so...yea.
Yeah
If this game ever gets made into a movie, it should be directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Only a visual genius like him can do this story justice!
It actually looks like the love child of Guillermo del Toro and Tim Burton.
well burton had his chance and it´s not dark at all, i also hate all this singing in his movies, but tim burton is damn good in making dark characters, well originally it was a childbook story, but this version the (McGee) version is darker, more violent and more interesting because Alice is insane and adult, this makes it a good mature movie, but i need to say, it could be a lot darker than that and without an happy ending.
I WANT A MOVIE NOW. YOU GENIUS. OH MY GOD. I HATE YOU FOR PUTTING THIS IN MY MIND.
What about Tim Burton
Did you watch the two Tim Burton Alice movies? They're utter garbage.
this poor girl is being tormented by her past and the people she knows in reality.
I know but only death will save her now from the pain.
I don't know why but I love Twisted and Dark Versions of little kid stories such as Little red riding hood, Hansel and Gretel and Alice in wonderland.
The dark stories are usually the originals.

Haha yes, was put in a psych ward around that age myself and still have recurring nightmares of being trapped in there again almost a decade later.

Its called projection role play

+Angel'Leiyani Skye Hopefully failed education.
+Angel'Leiyani Skye gonna say failed education perhaps.
Kyran Sawhill I never realized that connection before! Good eye.
Didn't Alice murder Pris in an early draft of the story?
@@painterguy6469 - It would've been manslaughter, not murder, since she didn't mean to do it (she hallucinated that Pris was a monster, so she instinctively pushed her out of self-defense). But Pris still survived in that draft; Alice just ran away, thinking she'd died.

OK weird question: what do the teeth symbolize in the game? I get they're used as currency for upgrading weapons in the game.
+bloodyrose1985 teeth are sometimes associated with memories, ( like in 'Rise of the Guardians' the teeth are supposed to hold childhood memories) is how I've interpreted it, so when you collect them, it means you are regaining some of Alice's memories.

Dreaming about theet falling out also represents a close death coming in youre circle, be it a family meber or friend

Dreaming with teeth is equal to things you've lost, dreaming with falling teeth things that frustates you / things you've forgotten, dreaming of falling and growing teeth at the same time it's people you've lost through your life and want back even if they hurt you in the past. he was surprised when Alice is changing
If a person, who I know very well how insane is, who has rightfull reason to hate me with every brain cell, who I expected to walk away defeated, suddenly turns around with that look in eyes, I would have the same face.

this game was always beautiful and with such a bitter story it just gets you this amazing feeling
1:43:33 lmao funny how he looked so menacing at first and now he's like "oh shit..."
Executioner: "can we talk about this-?"
i love how she remembers everything that happened piece by piece even tho she's mad
