This was one of the most underated games back then.. It was way too good for its time.. This was like a God tier game with almost no one knowing about its existance..
It's still on that level. What other freaking game has the entire "To Kill a Mocking Bird" movie in it?! (At least, I'm pretty sure, I watched a lot of it next to Jenny to see how far it went)
I read all the comics but it was a little short on Jackie's backstory. this game made Jackie's backstory more better and more importantly the Darkness gave a whole new meaning to Anti-Hero.
Such a small aspect, but I remember my favorite part about this game was the right and left triggers controlled your fingers, not the gun. So slowly pulling the trigger on the controller would mimic the same animation of the characters finger on the firearm, until a certain threshold was met on the controller then...bang, the character would fire. First time I saw this in a game and thought it was super immersive.
It lives on through me haha. I’m still doing the darkness voice, long after the games ended. I’m trying to get better at it honestly, but for a girl I’m pretty damn good at it. When I do voice memo’s I almost always start with Jackie’s name and go from there.
I'm so upset with what they did the the second one.. although it's more true to the comics, the realism in the first title just made the game so much better. Had a horror atmosphere while making you feel like the most badass thing that lurks in it. Second one feels like any other shooter.
I still love how polished this game is even after all these years the graphics still hold up extremely well! You can tell the developers really cared about the story they were trying to tell.
"Jenny... Baby, you dont get it. Paulie isnt a Teddy Bear. He's a fuckin psychopath." This game dialog is so amazing, its just really well crafted for this setting and characters
Another great thing in this game was the fact that you could actually watch three complete movies on all televisions and those movies were a great watch too. The old martial arts film was my favourite. Watching tv while Jenny slept in your lap really added to the emotion you felt later on in the game. Shows how brilliant this game was in pulling you in.

Mike patton did a much better job in this version of The Darkness than the sequel. In the sequel, he sounds like an angry Invader Zim. In this one, it's much more convincing that The Darkness is a malevolent, ancient entity.
This game still holds up both graphicly with astounding gameplay and story. Its a masterpiece. I played this when i was 13 or 14, and it blew my f-ing mind. I had never had my feelings so invested in a game. The music also just seeps into your soul. so good.

This was an awesome game, though a few of gripes: 1. Navigation was confusing as hell. 2. Wish they would've let you use the dark armor and see Jackie's iconic look. 3. They made Jackie seem older than he really was (in fact he looks more like Ian Nottingham from Witchblade), but other than that, a stellar effort to bring in new people to the Top Cow Comics mythos. In fact, thinking about it now, 2006-2012 was a great time for Top Cow, Witchblade anime (which was awesome too, I might add) and Darkness video games.
Of course I did, but I wasn't talking about The Darkness 2. Even if I did, it wouldn't matter because that one takes place about 2 years after the first, obviously making Jackie about 23 and I don't know a lot people in their early 20's having that gruff of a voice.
Not many game based movies turned out too well. I dont see how Hollywood could screw this masterpiece up but I'm confident that they would find a way to screw it up.
Just finished watching the entire series of Sopranos. I realized there was a lot of supernatural nuances to the show and then reminded me of the Darkness and how both shared the similarity on top of both being Mafia themed stories. Both great in their own regard.

I’m at about 13 minutes, just saw the scene where the Darkness manifests for the first time, and Jackie doesn’t seem to comment on it at all. Did you skip a scene or something, or does he just roll with it? If I started hearing a creepy-ass bloodthirsty voice and sprouted man-eating tentacle snakes, I’d have a thing or two to say about it.
no he doesn't comment which bothers me too, then in darkness 2 theres no explanation for how he freed himself from his mind because at the end of 1 jackie is completely taken over but start of 2 he is the head of the family having dinner and darkness has been asleep for a long time.
@@generalagondray And in between the two games Ive seen little evidence that suggest how exactly Jackie managed to keep the darkness locked away till he freed it in the restaurant

There is no way to make a The Darkness movie because people will say that The Darkness is just like the venom movie and say that the movie is copying Venom. So there no way they will make a Darkness movie.
Actually they can. He would be able to summon the dark minions, the serpent head, plus it's not like he's jumping from building to building praising a pancreas. They could add a Mafia family, trip to hell, fighting the darkness to only get it back, and etc etc.

But seeing as Jackie is the morally self righteous type, who has a code, there is no kind of connection between him and this ruthless killer he is supposed to be. Though, I guess the reason why is cause then he wouldnt be likeable? But i mean, this whole story is supposed to be about The Darkness. Not how it just controls the host but what it does to those around the host. How it can ultimately leave one alone because of its destructive nature. I dont know, it just irks me cause i see alot of potential that wasnt explored. (:T
You're taking this way too fucking seriously
That would’ve been cool. I feel like the cosmic horror side should’ve been implemented more.
1:06:12 i love every line from this part to this part 1:06:25
I never realized how low the frames were
There is no way to make a The Darkness movie because people will say that The Darkness is just like the venom movie and say that the movie is copying Venom. So there no way they will make a Darkness movie.
Actually they can. He would be able to summon the dark minions, the serpent head, plus it's not like he's jumping from building to building praising a pancreas. They could add a Mafia family, trip to hell, fighting the darkness to only get it back, and etc etc.
The G.O.A.T hopefully it’s better than Venom tho, and people don’t call it a Venom clone 🤷♂️
Wheres this remaster and cant believe its never came to PC. damn i gotta reget on console
one of my favs on the xbox 360 and including the sequel.
+BlackFlame450 sequel is better imo, just too short
+Gamer's Little Playground speaking of which, when are you uploading the sequel.
its also on ps3
Is it weird even after playing the two darkness games and watching this as a refresher, i actually want to have the darkness like i know that it controls you but i think it would be hella fun
Not really. You basically forfeit your soul to hell and will never be happy ever again.
If I was gonna get the Darkness I'd prefer to be born into it, that way the crazy evil demonic force inside would seem normal. Less morals
Please do Overlord next time please...!!!😊😊😊
The ending always makes cry 😢
i remember absolutely loving the 2 darkness guys, and their little quarrel, like with the left one wanting some heart too. i named the right one dark and left one darker. dark is a bully.
I wish they would remaster this.
Same this brings back good old memories
I think this was the first M rated game I got for PS3. This and it’s sequel needs to be remade for PS4 or PS5
One of my favorite games ever
rip nino actually couldve been the best pal you had
I'll never forget this game, or the night of my 21st birthday...
