    Disclaimer: there are actually an infinite number of steps because deck-building is a never-ending process 😂

    As someone who takes weeks just to get a functional deck to play with (not including moding stages after play testing, I greatly appreciate this video.

    • @QMTG

      Yes it takes more than a couple of hours for me too!

    This is awesome, thank you Esmond :)
    Everyone usually "only" shows the finished list, but this right here, is a powermove in my book!

      Thanks! That's the plan. I'm hoping to do a few more; hopefully I can make them a bit shorter than this first attempt haha

      @@QMTG to be honest, i liked the length. It also gave me some more insight for the scryfall syntax, haha.
      Thanks for that :)

    Love the content that you put out and the commander games recorded - I recently got back into MTG and took my baby steps into EDH a few months back so this is really timely. (Also, I got like 3 more or else done decks and have another 2 in progress so I am well on my way to cardboard hell once again)

    This was such a great video. Thank you for sharing your brewing process, Esmond!
    I do have a suggestion with the protection aspect of the deck: maybe you'd want to include something like a Swiftfoot Boots or a Champion's Helm? Or if you wanted to get some value out of enchantment-based synergies, I might suggest a Diplomatic Immunity.

    This was a great watch! If you're doing interviews I definitely want Paul to be first and Yang Ling second, those two guys always bring really interesting decks to the match.
    Also, kudos on your impressive Scryfall skills; when I brew I have to go to advanced search every 15 seconds like a pleb -_-0

    Could run Mother of Runes/Giver of Runes to try to keep Zur safe, Spellskite for additional protection and cut out a bit of the enchantments to do so; all in all, great video - love the process and the "behind the scenes" look at how you build a deck

    It’s impressive how efficiently you use scryfall. Can you not do all that in moxfield since it’s powered by scryfall?
    It would have taken me 10+ hours to do all that 😅

    • @QMTG
      @QMTG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it works on Moxfield as well but then I won't be able to see the deck as I build it

  • @scarfhat1
    @scarfhat1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Its interesting to see how a deck can get constructed and be functional immediately.
    I usually get a commander, look in my trunk of spares and just throw anything and everything in the deck. Then slowly over time ill improve it. My gitrog deck used to be just all my green and black cards but slowly its built really good synergy and keeps up with all the players who can afford to play and buy cards more regularly than me

    • @QMTG

  • @lhulhu9288

    Righteous Aura would be a good one to protect you from the always attacking Matthew 😂
    Alseid of Life's Bounty to protect your commander and Solitary Confinement is a funny one too(specially in a tight game!)
    Quintessential MTG become my favorite channel! Love from Brazil 💛

    Hey Esmond,
    On moxfield you can search with the scryfall syntax.
    Just 1 click and the card ist in the deck ;)
    Nice to see your "uncut" deck building processes and hear your thoughts and desicions. Very insightful :)
    Keep up the great content!

    Robe of the archmagi would be a fun card for card draw if you’re going for combat. Also for extra protection plus enchantment I always love kayas ghostform. One mana and protects from exile too. Awesome video man. Would love to see the same with a budget in mind. Like 200 or something.

    I don’t know if anyone has said anything about it yet, but getting better lighting on your face should fix the frame rate issue on your webcam

  • @Sinfamous81

    If you're leaning into the lifegain aspect I really think Daxos would be a good include. Plus the token creating enchantments are just so much extra value for you just for playing the theme of the deck. Personal opinion though.

    • @QMTG
      @QMTG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah actually this deck became more of a keyword-ability-matters. It also made me want to build an Alela esper enchantment tokens deck

    Good video! Do you consider your mana curve relative to your commander when deckbuilding? Frank Karsten put out an article earlier this year about mana curve in edh, and while it is a guideline he more or less says 'if your commander is X CMC then you should avoid putting in any other X CMC cards if possible' (so in this case it would be to avoid all 3 drops if possible). It also suggests that for 3 drop commanders that you might not want to run any mana rocks and that youre running waaaayyy too few lands (for a 3CMC commander he says the math says to run 42 lands and Sol Ring as the only mana rock). It's a guideline, but im going to try to follow it where possible.

    I'm sorry I have to ask. I'm like 2 minutes into the video, do you not use dark mode on Moxfield?? Or did you just not use dark mode for this video?

    • @QMTG
      @QMTG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol I actually didn't realize. Sometimes it's on dark mode, sometimes it isn't

    The only thing im worried about is board wipes, since your enchantments dont have indestructible. So many different ways to build zur. I wanna use enchanted evening to turn some planeswalkers and strong non enchantment creatures into enchantment creatures including sphere of safety so they cant attack my pw's.

    What about Teferis Ageless insight as a card draw?

  • @moocowp4970
    @moocowp4970 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, do you not consider budget when building for a certain powerlevel? You said you didnt want to put generically powerful cards in unless they worked with the theme, but then you put in mana drain, which is just a generically powerful card, as well as generous gift instead of Leyline Binding (which sort of does the same thing as generous gift, for the same cost, but doesnt give them a 3/3 and is also a 6CMC card for Zur to animate)... I figure go one way or the other, go all in on your commander and make it budget, or just go non budget and put all the overpowered staples in (esper sentinel, rystic studies, mana drain, smothering tithe etc. etc. ) and if some of them synergise then thats even better.
