- In Today's MIXED MEDIA ART TUTORIAL FOR BEGINNERS, My BEST SHADING SECRET is OUT!
I'm going to introduce you to Pitt Pens and WHY I'M OBSESSED to use them for SHADING in my Mixed Media Projects!
In this video, I'll demo blending skin tones with faber castell pitt pens, and will show you two of their most MAGICAL features: they are easy to blend, and actually ERASEABLE (for about 30 seconds!). If you lay down color you don't like or if you feel like your mark didn't land in the right spot, you can wipe it away with your finger or a baby wipe while the mark is still glistening!
Layer until you love it!

You're good! I bought mine one a time! I always tell everyone to grab 4 when you're just getting started! Black, White, Light Flesh and Cinnamon. Then slowly add your favorite red, green and blue. That'll make 90% of your projects done!

🎄✨Merry Christmas to you & your family as well! ✨🎄 Thank you for the 5-7 layers of Mod Podge between each round of shading/detail work. Makes soooo much sense to do that, so that we don’t mess up what’s already down on the substrate. I’m very good at smudging things that shouldn’t have been smudged....🤨....but now you’ve introduced a “work around”, or rather an overlay, with layering up with mod podge, & sealing previous work. Sometimes we need permission to do these types of things with all of our art supplies, & I thank you for that!! Now, with the Mod Podge, & gesso “fixing” trick, I might be able to salvage some pieces, & won’t scrap the whole project....lol. Your an excellent teacher, & I thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you do. 💐

It's my absolute pleasure to bring you these little tricks and techniques! I think mixed media is SO MUCH about problem solving but it also helps a LOT to have a plan! Your about the first I have seen use these markers..they look great for this type of project,who would have thought ,you get so few reviews of them..I am a Fc fan as I have two sets of their pencils now and have often wondered if these were worth it as I am not a pen person ,I don’t like how they look though I got complements when I used them..and also the colourfast thing worried me ,but there us now probs with these..another lesson learnt..I hope you and your family have a Happy Christmas, and it’s filled with magical memories 😀

Hi Karen I have watched your series and love it thank you. I don’t think I really understand why not just use mod Podge for all layers and just forget matte medium. Would you mind clarifying ❤️
Because acrylics don't stick to it very well. Even matte mod modge dries to a non-porous surface so acrylics can pick right off! Matte medium and gels are specifically made to bond with paint. That's why!

Omg now I know where I’m going wrong all these years i haven’t sealed at all let alone between any layers and wondered why it was all merging I didn’t realise you could do this now you have so fabulously explained it it’s so obvious to me, what a wally I am, so if I have it right I use liqutex matte medium for gluing collage, then mat modpodge between the layers and for the very top layer liquatex mat varnish, I have watched this video 3 times, I hope I have it right lol

Karen, I don't always comment, but I love your videos. Also, Ima have to take out a second mortgage to get all the art supplies I want, and I really want Pitt pens. And all the other things. ha ha
On a meta kind of a note, when I started watching art videos on various channels, I was a bit frustrated trying to keep up with the speed, even though I could, of course, adjust it from my end. My old lady self just kicked right in. Now, though, it's much easier to follow the videos as they are, and I only change the speed if I need to focus on a particular element. It's an interesting observation to me, inasmuch as we do tend to slow up a bit as we grow older, so exercises such as this may be beneficial for that reason, as well as the reason the videos are intended.

Hi karen! I know ur busy but can u possibly give me the link for the hamburger printout and the link for 9 pg supply printout. Ive watched ur 5 vid series but there wasnt the links. It said to ask u. I LOVE ur work, started to try myself yesterday but nith my pics were ruined by wrong supplies. I used the skintone maribu pens & it came out great but adding gelato highlights on top washed away the maribu underneath : ( I used watercolors for #2 but agsin its tough to add ontop. U obviously know all this & i cant wait to learn more from you!!! You pics are just awesome!!!

To keep your layers from intermingling you can seal between the layers! I save all my highlights until AFTER I've sealed! That way your maribu work wont be affected! I hope the 9 page pdf helps, the book has been released as well, with even way more info in it!

Are all the colors you've listed here in the assortment pack?
I'm not sure Tina because I've purchased all of mine, over time, individually. I think it lists all the colors in the assortment pack on the website you should be able to cross reference there! I also included the assorted pack (and there are different packs with varying amounts of pitt pens in them) so I am leaving it up to you all to decide how many and which ones to collect.

INTUITIVE & INSPIRED ART I don’t know if they are??
@@KarenCampbellArtist From the research I've done... it looks like FC says they are NOT, but people have learned to do it anyway. Looks like the best method is to remove the top, and syringe in the ink, then replace the top. But... I can't get any good info on what type of ink to use, that would be the same and not clog the pen.
If they are going to stop making them, I want to learn how to refill mine. : ) Also ordered a few more. Thanks for the heads up on that one!
INTUITIVE & INSPIRED ART they are stopping production of the big brush ones, not the skinny ones! Which have the same ink, so it’s okay!!

@@KarenCampbellArtist I don't like the skinny one's as well. I use them to ink up stamps. My ink pads dry out, but the big brush pitt pens stay good, and I love the color variety.
