There are benefits to both production and to the consumer in having the device smaller. It fits places easier, it's cheaper to make. That's it. Simple. It's not significantly cheaper or smaller, so it would be silly to sell your original PS5 in order to get this version, BUT it has some perks if you're thinking about getting one for the first time.

When I first got the ps5 st launch I swore I’d trade it in for a smaller redesign asap. I’ve since re arranged my setup to accommodate its bigger size and now am indifferent. The fact that this is barely smaller means I see little reason to “upgrade” for 95% of existing Ps5 owners

You don't need the $30 stand. It can stand on its own with out it.
Yeah, I'm surprised, but I've never heard a reviewer mention this. I bought a slim last weekend and it stands vertically fine without the stand. I think if it's on a low TV stand and you have kids or pets, then yeah, but otherwise, no need for the stand.

Im just surprised how people feel surprised or complain about the size transitions. When they've been doing the same thing since the PS2 . Theyre going to do the same thing to the PS6......Well anyways my opinion everyone have a good day.
PS2 slim is a true slim
The console is wide enough to stand vertically on it's own so you don't need the $35 stand.
The console should be set horizontally since the liquid metal inside starts to pool inside.
@@sggsquadpresentsthat only happens if you frequently take apart your console. I’ve stood mine vertically for over a year and have had no problem with it
Im wondering, placing it vertically without the stand will not block the air entrance from below?
@@Fernando-xe4dm idk about the slim, but for the normal ps5 it’ll be fine. The stand just givers it extra grip to not tip over.
@@Fernando-xe4dmyou don't need the stand. It will ventilate just fine without it. The whole system has vents and even without the stand there's still room underneath between the plates which it sits on. (At least for the original, I would assume the slim as well.
Bought the ps5 slim on launch day and I really like the look of it sitting Vertical except I would like black plates on it

What about selling to buy the slim if you bought the original one at launch? I have mine in a smaller bedroom and it expels a lot of heat which makes my room uncomfortably warm. I read somewhere they made some tweaks to later productions of the original model that diminished said issue. Not very familiar with specs but I think it was something to do with the size of a chip (that controls the amount of electricity being pulled from the electrical outlet??).
I want to see it as slim as the PS2 version.

It is surreal to not only see ps5's sold in retail & @msrp, but now we're at a revamping.
I got the disc slim for the 1TB storage, it’s my first PS5 so it made sense to get the one with more storage. Plus it’s even cheaper since I got the Spider-Man 2 bungle, that’s a $70 game for free (the bundle is the same price as the slim by itself)

I seen retailers have the OG model with Spider-Man 2 bundled for $499 aswell weird how it’s the same price as the slim for a BF sale either way I got another one since the OG model is gonna be discontinued the slim is worth it when it’s heavily discounted in a few years at least $300

I have only 1 question which no one seems to have answer for... If I buy that digital edition without a disc drive, how do I put it horizontally? You can't use these feet without a disc drive and for some mysterious reason, there is not a single unboxing video on TH-cam about digital edition.
It is my understanding that you can use the feet without the disc drive. They click into the gap, not the disc drive itself.

@@sincerelytyler09 It is, but only in Japan. But I had already seen japanese unboxing video of digital edition, and horizontal position is pretty bad... if you have cats. The feets are also smaller.

I like this for upgradeablity to “the next disc type.” I’m curious if the disc port will be used for other drive types, maybe an 8tb optical. Cheers

Why does every TH-cam video mention that you have to have an internet connection to use the disc drive? Does that matter at all?

If you have a Ps5 digital why would you need to bear in mind when upgrading that the disk drive needs a internet connection to activate it. Wouldn’t you already have an internet hence reason for getting the digital version in the first place 💀💀💀
From everything I’ve seen the vertical stand seems optional.
No one on youtube mentions about laying down the ps5 on its side instead, they are always showing the ps5 standing up. I had discs always fall out and landing on the ground everytime the discs are being exposed with the bottom surface of the discs always ended up landing on the ground when I had the console standing up instead of the console laying down on its side. There is also a chance of someone accidentally knocking the ps5 over when it's being stood up and the ps5 hitting the ground when it's standing up as a opposed to laying the ps5 on its side. All the consoles before the ps5 were always laying on its side. It always made sense to keep the console laying down on its side because it was easier to keep the console inside of a tv stand since tv stands comes in all shapes and sizes. Standing up the console on a tv stand will not always work with every tv stand since the tv stand might be too small to fit the ps5 when having the ps5 standing up so it makes more sense to lay on its side since it mostly likely fit better with every tv stand. For instance, on my tv stand. I have my yamaha hs50m studio monitors on rockville speaker stands, full size desktop pc, sony 4k blu ray player, xbox series x laying on its side instead of standing up, my ps4 pro and my ps3 super slim all on the same tv stand. Not everyone home theater set up are the same. I have my home theater set up in a certain way so some of my consoles and my other other electronic devices fit on my tv stand so I can switch between each device depending on what I feel like using at the time. It also helps having a samsung one connect box to connect all my electronic devices to the hdmi ports on the samsung one connect box. I have a ton of game consoles from old to new but they won't all fit on the same tv stand so I ended up using some of my consoles that use hdmi and have them all fit on my tv stand and my tv is a 65 inch samsung curve qled 4k tv is next to all my other electronic devices on the same tv stand.

In my opinion the PS5 slim is good for people who don't have a PS5 yet. Being that I already have a PS5, I will wait for the possible PS5 Pro.
What about price point? Here in USA the launch model PS5 Disc recently dropped $350 as 1 day sale.

They 3D printed the horizontal stands and sold a piece of metal for $30. Can't wait to 3D printers to make their custom versions.

@@astrovewlix5929 I did used to store my PS2 slim upright without a stand. Unless you swing your controllers around like a maniac... But the PS5 controllers are Bluetooth and the console is way wider so, what's your point..?

First video I ever saw on TH-cam with the vertical stand. Looking good. I only wish SONY would just come out with it on Europe. That is disappointing. If it doesn't come this year, after waiting 3 years to get one, I will give up on PlayStation ecosystem forever. I am quite happy ever since Valve released the Steam Deck. Gave up my PS4 Pro completely since then.
Where in Europe are you? I can walk into any store or go on any website and buy a PS5 on sale for £430 or £479 with MW3 and I’m in the Uk

They save money. Takes less materials to build a smaller console. Newer, smaller components are easier to cool so you can use a cheaper cooling system. More mature components could reduce $ spent fixing defects. Less weight means lower shipping costs.

Functionality wise it's cool with the detachable drive at the cost of making it look more ugly in the process being smaller with segmented panels. Should be a solid indicator of what the future plans of their consoles will be.
So no die size shrink, thermals are thus the same if not worse, size is slightly smaller, lots of cost cutting with the design and details, cheaper looking vertical stand now an extra $30, same price. Pass.

This is such a waste of a redesign. It looks practically the same, and is only slimmer at the top of the console (above the disk drive). The extra space is the only saving grace but still.
