Moving from a ps5 to a ps5 slim is no upgrade .

I think people should realise by now that if you have a current PS5 that there is absolutely no reason or need to “upgrade” to this new model. Nothing is different about the way it operates from your current PS5. It shouldn’t even be considered an upgrade. It is simply a design revision.
Yes there is
@@firedallasjill5230 How so? Apart from offering slightly more storage from the ssd, nothing about the redesign performs differently from the ‘fat’ PS5. It’s not faster, it’s not quieter, it doesn’t run any cooler or draw less power (unless you have the launch PS5, which is only marginally more power hungry and warmer). The operation is exactly the same.
I upgraded my ps5 to a ps5 slim and for me it was worth then change. I take it often in my packpack so it’s nice that it‘s lighter and smaller. Plus the fact that you have 2 usb c ports now. Who uses usb A?? And I like the way you can make it digital version.

I'm happy with my OG PS5 I bought a couple of months ago. Getting it for £386 with EA Sports FC instead of paying £499 for the PS5 Slim was a no brainer for me. The removable Disc drive on the Slim is great though. It means you can replace the disc drive easily should it become faulty. The best thing about the PS5 Slim will be all the Black Friday deals there will be for the OG PS5
Don’t upgrade ever
@huhh1077 It will cost £499. I could buy the OG PS5 with Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3 and Spider-Man 2 and still have £40 left in my pocket. I just doesn't make sense to me that the PS5 Slim is that price
My 8 year old ps4 disc drive still works , are disc drive unreliable ?
@@franklingoodwin $500 is not a lot of money in 2023 anymore .

@@Crashed131963 fR tho

This answered all my questions thank you
It is good for the people that have bad luck with their disc drive when stop reading discs. They can just easily buy another drive and replace it instead of the original PS5 you have to take it all apart to get to the disc drive and repair it.
not a big deal to replace it. PS5 is easy to open up to that degree. probably cheaper to get that drive replacement, right now anyway
That a great point that i have not heard yet
I want to get because it’s smaller
You can also detach your disc drive and take it over your friend’s house with your games if your buddy has the digital… now the chances of that are slim but it’s an option. I think Sony did this so now ppl will go buy a new disc drive instead of sending the system in to be repaired. They will still make money and you will not have to go through the ship and wait process.
@@rubeno7513 Might not work well. Disc drive seems to be registered to your account. I don't know if Sony allows sharing one drive between multiple units. It looks like it's intended for one PS5 to have more than one drive in case of a failure.
The answer is no you should not upgrade
Exactly
Bro are people that slow? Who tf upgrades to a ps5 slim😂😂😂 this is just for people who dont own a ps5 yet. Literally the same price and specs just smaller with 175 extra gb's. No brainer. The old ps5 will be discontinued and this will replace it as the regular ps5. Its not an upgrade

@@Willkill1999 I’m not hating on the slim. The slim is better than the base PS5 imo. But there’s no reason for base PS5 players to upgrade, whereas with the PS3 there were certain performance upgrades, and a lower pricetag that made an upgrade a sensible decision.

Great video dude exactly what I came for man
If I hadn't of secured a day 1 purchase then maybe I'd consider but the OG will do until pro drops otherwise pointless to jump if already own the original.
You don't have to take the screws of the disc drive out
Great video! Thank you!
Do you have any observations on temperatures during gaming? Is it hotter than OG PS5?
Have you learned anything about the difference in temp regulation?
So if you're still wondering which to buy even though it's been like months now, lemme help you; hopefully.
If you're looking for a brand new console right now, i suggest the Ps5 Slim. Why? Because it is the only Ps5 you would easily find in the market right now and also better for future customization. If you're looking for a used Ps5, then I suggest the Ps5 Phat. Why? Because it would be cheaper than a used Ps5 Slim because it would be still new.
Here are the Slim's pros and cons.
Pros:
Smaller (More Compact)
1tb
Removable Disc-drive
4 plates (Just for design)
Cons:
Slightly hotter
Slightly more noisy
Large opening at the top (Bad because dusts can come in easily)
Glossy Design (can be remove though)
Also, I wouldn't count the more usb-c ports because as of right now; some people still use the regular usb-a port to use their headphones. I wouldn't recommend just using the back usb-a port because it could get pretty hot back there, so to solve this; just buy a usb-hub. Also, the slightly hotter/noisy isn't that bad. It's only slightly, not more or much.
(Correct me if I commented something wrong! I would only take the real ones, not the fake ones.)
Lol Superman just chillin in the background
I have PS5 for 2 years now, console is running still perfectly fine. I have never experienced overheating or noisy fan while playing games. It is known, PS5 has oversized cooling system, but how about this smaller one ? PS5 slim is same with HW as "old" one, but much smallet. I would bet, cooling is going to be worse.
They are ridiculously heavy and big. Mines a pain to carry around. I don’t think I’d bother upgrading to a slim though. I’ll wait for a pro
I just wonder if the silm gunna have issues I like the OG one cause it’s not made like this

Got PS5 on black friday discount for 430 Euros comparing to Slim that currently goes for 550 Euros. I cannot figure out why not to use the extra 120 Euros for one year subscription in Sony Plus or upgrade with 1 terra SSD.
Also I am a bit concerned about heating issues with slim version since it is using the exact same chip as the OG PS5. What they did to actually justify the size decrease without compromising the thermal ?
I guess time will tell...

You don't need to take out the screws in the disk drive. Also the wifi is not upgraded to 6e. It's the same 6 as the original. So don't upgrade. It's literally the same console, just with an extra usb c, and removal of the type a port (still usb 2.0 speeds unfortunately). And 175 extra GB of internal space.

This is a very useful video for if you should buy a ps5 or slim. Legend
You didn't have to unscrew to take out the drive.
I love my PS5 slim. Overall, a more improved version of the OG model. If you don’t have a PS5 yet, you should definitely get the slim. By the way, is it just me, or, is the PS logo on the slim a little bit smaller than the OG logo, as well…? Just something to keep in mind, in case you’re thinking about pimping out your PS5 and overhauling it with a PS logo vinyl sticker to make it *pop*. You may have to re-cut the vinyl sticker to make it fit into the PS logo on the slim model.
Is it very lound? I had ps4 slim but had to upgrade to pro because the ps4 slim's fanes were so loud
@@linneah8211 Not loud at all. The fans don’t run all the time, and when they do, they’re super, super quiet. I have a hard time hearing them when the headphones are muted and all the ambient sound in the room is minimal. The PS5 was designed by Sony to run very quiet.
I have the OG Ps5 but Im a fan of the slim - even like the design more. But besided that, and the extra storage - I see no reason to change it
So really gaming wise the only real only upgrade for me is the better WiFi connection? N even then does it matter even tho I use a lan cable?
No because you dont rebuy the same thing just its small box by numbers or furniture adjustment. Just keep the 1st one.
People could do whatever they want. If someone wants to rebuy something that's their business not yours.. worry about yourself not other people
Great video, thanks mate!
Thank you for not being fake and explaining everything into detail the way I needed
how is the thermal in slim is it improved
Is there a reason why the slim digital edition is no where to be seen?
I hear alot about external looks. But nothing about it Being any better other than the fact you can upgrade to disk later if it's to much to buy upfront and it has more storage. I like my ps5. I also just got a special stand for it that has heat dispersion and hyper cooling as well as two charging stations for two controllers.
amazing video, nice work :)
Basically for anyone wondering, if you are buying a new PS5, you should choose a Slim. If you have a PS5 there is not much need (usually) to buy the slim.
Key tips:
-Same power
-Smaller
-1Tb storage (+175gb)
-4 panels instead of two (only aethstetic change)
Bigger Case = better cooling.
@@donharrycorleone not necessarily but sure, in this case I believe the standard has a somewhat "better" cooling.
But considering the Slim has enough cooling to never overheat and I have been playing GoW Ragnarok, Horizon Forbiden West and CoD and it has been silent (digital version btw), I see it as a total benefit having a more compact system for what in my experience seem to have no consequence.
+wifi 6
@rangershark10 Don't both consoles support Wi-Fi 6?
never knew a ps5 slim came out. i knew sony would release one eventually. sticking with my og ps5
Does the pulse 3d header work work with the slim model cause it doesn’t have a regular usb port for the dongle
I don't know which to get, they both look good to me! The original looks better imo but awful horizontally, which I want to have it, and the slim looks so much better horizontally but idk if I want to commit to getting that one for that sole purpose. The new disc eject and extra storage, plus modularity is nice also.
Multiple choice questions belike
Then get the slim
Easiest way is to write what you like and dislike on a piece of paper for each one. Whichever has the most positive points, you go for that.
But you should look at reviews too.
I'd wait until there's a sale somewhere for the slim then buy it.
The slim has a better cpu so better graphics

Is the gaming performance / Fps same on ps5 slim as in the OG ps5?
Yes
No. PS5 Slim has way better internals than the OG PS5, means better cooling and better CPU, GPU, RAM and better and newer SSD. Slim never heats up, so PlayStation 5 Slim can adjust its GPU / CPU speed and it it overheats it throttles itself. The coolest temperature of PS5 OG is the hottest temperature of PS5 Slim. So PS5 OG already throttles and underclocks itself to stay cool. Meanwhile PS5 can play games for way longer periods of times at full speed before it heats up even further meaning more stable FPS

Hello. I´ve bught the old larger PS5 recently, but I also paid some extra money to be able to return it in up to 60 days. So if choose so, I can return my PS5 larger version till half of January and get the base of my money back. My question is, should I do it and get the PS5 slim version or keep the bigger one? My first concern is: is the slimmer version still stable in terms of heating? Is the fan louder? It´s true it also is smaller and has bigger HDD. So my second question is, if I keep the big one, can I potentionaly buy bigger SSD HDD and put it in my larger PS5 instead of the original 825GB HDD? Thank you very much for your answers.. and great video here btw. :)
I think keeping the Og/Phat one and buying an M.2 ssd is the best bet. Ps5 Slim and Og has the same chip but the Og has a little bit of advantage at cooling since it has vent grills, bigger fan, bigger airflow and bigger heatsink.

How is a cheaper contructed version of the same hardware an upgrade?
Nice to know it has better wifi. My OG launch day PS5 unfortunately went to Playstation heaven recently so I'm thinking of picking this up.
Just a question, as somebody who doesn’t own a ps5 what do yall recommend
I own both consoles, maybe I can help you, unless you bought one already.
Let's start first, specs. Both have the same hardware, that means they have the same graphics, resolution, performance, load speeds and basically everything. No upgraded console from both systems, one is just like the other one.
Storage - Mainly the slim has a extra 175gb of free space, here is the whole storage in total.
1tb - Slim
825gb - Phat
Size and design - Again, the Slim takes the size since it's smaller while design is just preference. I'll come back to this section later.
Cooling System - Both have the same APU chip ( 6nm chip) which means both consoles would produce the same heat, only thing... You're putting that same heat in a smaller case with smaller heat dissipation materials, plus with smaller fan, heatsink and airflow? That's clearly a sign of problem with smaller size (not a problem though if the Slim's APU chip is more efficient but it isn't) Phat takes the category here. Watch @Mc Kuc, he will explain the whole noise thing.
Material Build Quality - This is the 2nd part of the design category, the Phat takes this because Gloss gets ruined easily. Wouldn't want to see your console looking like it had been sitting there for ages.
Stand - Do I really need to explain this? The Slim gives you a cheap plastic little legs that is unstable and is only for horizontal ( You have to pay 30$ if you want the vertical stand but that thing is really unstable too as in was proven by Austin Evans.) The Phat has a free multipurpose stand and is stable too.
Best at keeping dusts away - Phat because it has these vent grills from the top which prevents dust from coming through while the Slim doesn't.
Electricity uses - Both since they have the same 6 nm chip, which means same power would be use.
In short, buy whatever is cheaper. Hope I can help you👍
I don't hate the slim, but it's not an improvement on the 1200 series ps5
My ps5 1200 keeps me me from internet but I can talk in party like what is going on???
Rather wait for the pro
I wouldnt have to even think about upgrading if i could play the games I wanted to play. I unfortunately got one of the Launch Editions that has a hard time handling Ray Tracing. Been trying to play FF16 for months with no success.

man, nice comparison. just one thing: speak closer to the mic or something. the sound is an issue. small, but issue. thaaks
4:02 If you can't run installed games directly from that NVMe drive I'm wondering if the drive is incompatible with the new slim model. Even if you swapped out that Fire Cuda drive from a PS5 (2020) it potentially might not have the same functionality in the Slim. I'm just suggesting as someone who has seen first hand how console revisions can take steps backwards to cut costs.
