I received it as part of my SWC subscription too Al. I opened it on Xmas day, after dinner, and thought it was fantastic... so immediately bought another bottle. I tried it again in January and I wasn't as impressed. I do think that it has a place at Christmas, with all the festive flavours, so will be put away at the back of the shelf until December

Ah see thats my problem then, i never opened it at Xmas...its ok whisky looking back i probably was a bit harsh with the score, but i did expect more fella...i might save the rest for Xmas...cheers bud...

Thanks for the honest review Alan. I’ve been tempted by the SWC but just seen too many bottles from them that i think i would probably not be that keen on opening and have too many other bottles in the stash which i would rather dip in to.

Did an interesting side by side of the Pulteney Wine finishes ay the weekend. I think the Pineau des Chartenes works much much better than the Port.

I have not got my OP port bottle open. Disappointed to hear your thoughts on this, my hopes were high Alan. Now they are on the floor. However i am still looking forward to trying it just the same.

So sorry Michael i did have high hopes for it and maybe i built myself up to much for it...its ok and i think we paid the right money for it but if i had paid £75...i would be gutted fella...let me know what you think when you open it...

I gotta be honoust,, when it comes to a port cask no age statement, i love the Dalmore port cask. Can someone tell how this Old Pulteney compares to the Glendronach ( my fav brand) port cask?

Jammy, spicy, salty sounded good. However, a mouthful of saltwater? Not my favourite. Wish it had a little more juicy notes in there. Thanks for sharing!

Dont think i tried any old pulteney yet. I have an 17 yo pulteney waiting ti be opened. Heard that one is nice :)

That 17 is old pulteney at its very best my friend and dont waste anymore time get that opened and im sure it will blow your mind my friend...let me know how you get on....

I haven't tried this particular bottling but the last bottle of Old Pulteney 12 I bought (formerly a staple in my whisky cabinet) was really poor - weak, almost anaemic spirit with next to no flavour and body. I presume they're using casks that are probably a little past it but it just means they'll be putting off previously loyal fans who are now spoilt for choice from so many other quality distilleries.

I appreciate your honesty about this whisky and its price... I wish there were more such honest and transparent reviews.... In my experience quality of scotch whisky has roughly halved in the past 10 years and mostly doubled in price Not a single whisky on the market is half as good as the stuff they produced 10 -15 years ago,

Ive had 3 or 4 bottles mate and they have been ok...there a little bit diff maybe so world whiskies in there.. lets hope for a good one this month fella

Hi Richard. Summerton make a real effort to offer variety, bottles which extend our experience of whisky. You are likely to get a bottle completely off the radar. I signed up for that, and I have not been disappointed.
