Congratulations on 2 years!! That’s unfortunate that one of your least favorite bottles is your most expensive 🙁 I usually get the dark fruits (raisins, dates, plums) on Port finishes as well. Usually helps me identify them in blinds. The AECS 2023 is one of my favorite bottles from last year. I’ve been picking up more and more American Single Malts, need to check if I have a Port finish.
Love the bowman port. Wish that was in this!
Sorry. I should have picked it up and got it into the flight. There are 3 bottles that will go into the giveaway that were not in the flight. John J. Bowman, Bushmills 16, and the Quinta Ruban.
Congrats on the two year anniversary! 🎉
Thanks! It has been a great journey so far. I appreciate you! Cheers!
Wow. The Westland! Been years because I cannot get it here anymore. I may have to get one ordered.
Also, I'm still a fan of the horse race ranking system...
Westland for the win!
I would like to suggest Milam & Greene Port Finished Rye (so very good) and Woodinville Bourbon Port Finish (not quite as good as the M&G), I also suggest the Saints Alley Bourbon Port and Cognac Cask. I know it is also finished in cognac casks, but it is so very crazy good. Thanks for doing what you do. Cheers.o
All good suggestions. I will keep an eye out for them. Thanks!
Loved this video for a few reasons. May 1, 2022 was the same day my daughter was born:). Also, I'm a huge Westland fan and have a handful of fun single barrels (I'm in Seattle so have easy access). Reach out if you ever want to swap some samps...sounds like you have a good one:)
Happy birthday to your daughter! Westland is my favorite American single malt distillery hands down. I love their stuff! Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it. Cheers
Congratulations Peter! Enjoy your channel. If you find yourself down in Tucson LMK and we can get together for a Dram or two. Tom
I tell you what...if you win I will drive down to Tucson and hand deliver the flight and we can have that drink. How does that sound? Best of luck!
Found it lol. I will look for the Westland and I took the MWND and RB Tawney off my list Great Vid
Thanks! I don't think port is my favorite maturation or finish. Sherry suits my palate more. Cheers!
Congratulations on the 2 years anniversary!
The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, I know many people have already mentioned it, but its the only Port finished whisky I've tried so far.
Thanks! 2 years flew by. The Quinta Ruban and Bushmills 16 should have been in the flight. I think I'll get a bottle of the Quinta Ruban and put it into the giveaway for the winner along with the Bushmills 16.
I got close to the same notes with the Thomas S Moore. When I had it the finish was so incredibly strong and a wee bit woody. Its finish was so strong it made George Dickel Bourbons taste thin.
Certainly not my favorite in this flight. Cheers!
Great review of the port finished whiskies Peter. I commend you on your ability to keep things in perspective and in order. Congrats in advance on the upcoming 2nd anniversary. I will not comment on the port finishes as the only one I have tried over the last little while is already mentioned by many in the comments section. I would love to try a tawny port finished whisky but it will have to be a good bottle. I can get that Redbreast Tawny port release but you have proven my doubt about it being that good so I will refrain from getting a bottle. Great content as always Peter!
Thanks! It's been a great ride so far.
I prefer a Port finish to a Shery finish. A couple weeks ago, I had the last of my Glenmorangie Port Wood. Took me a couple years to finish her, she was traveler exclusive back in the day. So I double I will every see her again. This was fun to watch because I was looking to replace the Glenmorangie Port Wood with something similarly finished.
There are a lot of port finished bottles out there. I was surprised to see I had this many and I forgot about Bushmills 16.
Very nice presentation Peter 🥃
Since you already had a Redbreast in the lineup, the Bushmills 16 would have been a better choice as your 2nd Irish. One of my favorite whiskies period.
I have not tried a WESTLAND, but I will. I've read some interesting reviews on their Garryana series.
The Glendronach Port Wood is a bottle I reach for frequently.
I completely forgot that the Bushmills was Port finished. I agree it would have been a better choice to put into the lineup. When I select a winner I'm going to include that in the giveaway.
Thanks!
I appreciate the support Alvino Martinez. I've got you in for 1 entry. Best of luck. Cheers!
Peter interesting video. No surprise RB27 was last. If you have batch 3 it is well known to have too much grapefruit. Any other RB27 (batch 1,2,4) are much better. If you had it, I would have liked to see Bushmills 16 put in the line up or my favorite the Quinta Ruban from Glenmorangie.
Also forgot my local favorite the Chattanooga port finished whiskey ( good bang for the buck)
I completely forgot I had the Bushmills 16 and it was port finished. That would have been a good addition. I will put that in the giveaway for the winner of the flight.
@@whiskeyisajourney Here is to 2 more years of quality videos. If you have them, a Marsala or Madeira finished face off would be grand.
You need to try kavalan solist port cask 👍 amazing whisky
No quinta ruban?
Very complex and a good bang for buck.
I did not have it in my collection, but knew that was the one everyone would suggest or want in the lineup.
If you liked the flavor of the Angel's Envy cask strength, but it was too proofy for you, you might try to find a single barrel store pick. I have a couple from my local Kroger that are 110 proof and just delicious and desserty - definitely better than the standard version. Obviously waaaay cheaper that the barrel proof at about $80. I also have a "Germany exclusive" tawny port finish Rebel bourbon that's quite nice, but only 90 proof so fairly light. The Bowman port finish is nice, but to me the finish is very subtle - not as good as the single barrel.
I'll keep an eye out for some lower proof store picks. Thanks for that suggestion. Cheers!
Redbreast is my favorite whiskey line but Redbreast 27 batches 4 & 5 am not a grapefruit fan. Really too bad as it is my understanding the previous 3 batches did not have this note
Like I said in the video. This bottle of RB27 is one of my least favorite bottles in my collection and that's unfortunate.
I don't think I have any Port finishes unless Palo Cortado is one. I keep wondering about Westland.
Thanks for the support! You are in for 2 entries. IMO Westland is outstanding. Best of luck!
Hi Peter,
Glenmorangie 14yr Quinta Ruban!
That is a popular one that I expected people to recommend. I will have to check it out.
I enjoy some port finished whiskey. However being on a fixed budget I don’t join Patreon. I do enjoy the content though.
I appreciate the support no matter what! Thanks.
Thanks!
I appreciate the support. Good luck! I have you down for one entry.
