Here in the states, we got a special Ardnamuchan series called ArdnAmerica which is a lightly peated, cask strength finished in Oloroso and PX sherry casks. Great stuff. These guys are hitting on all cylinders. Hope they keep it up.
Never hard Ardnamurchan....and I would never try this....😑.... Nahhh...I'm just being a grumpy toddler here because I cannot find this anywhere lol. Great review Geoff! Cheer and enjoy your week!🥃🥃
Unpeated AD sounds like it's right up my street...alley? Lane? Wherever it's supposed to go, it's gotta be all the way up there inside me. Wait, just because I swallowed. The whisky!! 😮💨 Nice review.
I don't watch nor follow any sports. But you still got a genuine LOL out of me. Good one.😂 I've only had the regular AD, and would love to try anything from them!🤩
Thank you for the video, always interesting to watch them. Never tried the Ardnamurchan, non available here in Vietnam. By the way, you have changed your tasting glass right? What model are you using now? Best regards :).
Ah sorry to hear it's not available in Vietnam yet. They're getting wider distribution by the year, so I'm sure it'll make it to your market eventually. Thank you for the kind words! As for the glass... the brand is called Cosi Tabellini and the model is simply called "bourbon glass." Cheers! 🥃
Sounds like an absolute banger and something I would really enjoy even though champagne just isn't my thing. What really caught my attention was when you mentioned the fruitiness is comparable to Glencadam 10 and CB Orchard House. Those were 2 of my favourite whiskies from last year! I'll keep an eye out for this one since we often get bottles here a year or 2 after their initial release. On a side note, I brought a bottle of Ardnamurchan AD 5/23 cask strength to a tasting at friend's place a couple of weeks ago and we were all very impressed by it. No hint of youth and so well balanced with the cereal and fruit notes revealing themselves after the initial hit of medium level smoky highland peat. Everyone had it in their top 2 or 3 bottles out of the 8 we tried that evening. Very curious to try any of their other releases I can get my hands on. Keep up the great work Geoff!
Thanks Peter! Yeah it's a hell of a good whisky. It's a bit more dry than Glencadam and Orchard House, but keeps a lot of those bright fresh fruity notes. Not sure if this will ever pop up at the SAQ, but hopefully it does! (and hopefully it's not crazy overpriced...) 🥃
I was lucky to pick up a bottle of this here in NZ. It popped up on the new arrivals list on one of the online whisky sites in early December along with the MacLean's Nose and the Sherry Cask. I quickly snapped up all three, and the Paul Launois was sold out in days. It is an excellent whisky. Good to know it is an annual release. Cheers!
Just wanted to say that your lighting is much better in this video - keep it up. You look a lot less shiny with this setup. Now dont get me wrong, I love me some sparkly and shiny Geoff as much as the next guy, but this setup made the overall experience better. Maybe because the whisky is more in focus. But thats obviously not why we’re here, so 😏
Distilleries will use champagne casks - but unless they have an agreement with a certain "house" where they can use that name, like Ardna has with Paul Launois but which doesn't happen very often at all, they will just be classified as wine barriques. Reason being: the champagne name is extremely well protected in Europe. Notice how even Ardnamurchan doesn't use the word champagne on its label.
I agree, what a wonderful whisky! When you announced that was one of your whisky of the year (I don't really remember when and what, non budjet whisky of the year? ), but nevertheless I looked on the Swiss market to get my hands on this magnificent dram. I must say I'm not desapointed at all! Excellent really. The nose and the palate are both amazing. I hesitate to buy a backup. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Merci mon ami. It's a bit more expensive here in Switzerland, but it's worth it. I bought the little sister as backup 😜. This evening I will probably try your Tariquet 15. I'm sure it will be good. Cheers
Hi sorry, I gotta ask. I've seen this so many times now... what is that thing you do with your hand at the Finish exactly? Like when you're trying to determine/taste the finish, you do this gesture as if you'd pull air from your mouth with your hand? just very curious about it? thank you!
Hah that's actually completely meaningless. I started it as a way to visually distinguish the palate and the finish in my early videos. I've since combined the palate and finish together. The move is completely unnecessary and pretentious at this point, but I kept it anyway. 🥃
Thanks for reviewing Geoff. Loved (most of) the Ardnamurchans I've tried, this not being one of them .... that is, not tried this one. Given my preferences I tend to leave the sherry and wine matured and finished stuff for others to enjoy and judge.... so that counts this one as well. Slàinte mhath
Hey Geoff, good one. One hint: Champagne is not matured in oak. Only some special cuvées will get wood treatment. So i guess there will not be a whole lot of champagne casks available for the whisky industry ;-)

I've heard a lot of good things about that release. Still waiting for Ard-Taiwan. Rolls off the tongue... 🥃

Just tracked down a bottle of the 2024 🎉 look forward to trying it in the near future. Great review as always G.

Hah yeah I heard this one sold out pretty much right away in Germany. Hopefully you manage to grab the 2024, buddy. 🥃
I wish I could find any of them :) thanks for review

Crass, lewd, and completely inappropriate. Well done. 🥃
Such a descriptive review and the best golf commentary on ytube 😅
Thx G, just tried 2024 release and… Delicious
Nice! 🥃
This sounds delightful! I like the classic Ardnamurchan profile but those yeasty and fruity notes sound delicious, I must get my hands on this one!
Good to know it's an annual release :)
Snagged one in by chance so thanks for the review cuz I'm saving it for a horizontal AD tasting in the future!
You really should be standing up if you're doing a tasting.
@Gwhisky OK Mr. Funny Guy I didn't know you worked for the SWA!
@Gwhisky Speaking of which, how would one go abouts a vertical tasting of essentially NAS line-up?
I never heard of this whisky three weeks ago till you said it on your video ..
I managed to snag a bottle, not sure I can open it just yet 😂
I love the 2022 release. I have the 2023 unopened in my stash so it as not unlikely that it will be opened tomorrow 😊
I'll be curious to hear how you think they compare. 🥃
Just picked up the 2024 release today. Looking forward to try it. Not sure I can wait for the weekend 😅
Hope you enjoy! 🥃
really want to taste this one :) hoping to see a list of whiskeys good on the rocks someday :P

I've got a bottle of the AD/06:22 Paul Launois Release - it's the only Ardnamurchan I've liked at all...
Damn, the only one? Tough crowd. I've heard the previous ones are different from this one, but still very good. 🥃

Thanks, yeah I'm happy with the newer set, camera, and lighting. No need to shine and sparkle on camera. Personality is sparkling enough. 🥃
@@Gwhisky amen 🙏
Sounds great. It disappeared from the Swedish market as soon as it arrived....like butter in sunshine😂
Yeah I hear that's the case in a lot of markets. Good luck in 2024! 🥃

Didn't think about that. Thanks for the info! 🥃🙏

Hah to be fair, the cask influence is quite tame here compared to something with big sherry. That said, it's unpeated... so yeah... makes sense. 😉🥃
Great distillery 👍 cheers 🥃S.
Agree! Cheers Sandro! 🥃
Hi Geoff, as Lunar New Year is around the corner, we need you to build some atmosphere by doing the next installment in 闽南话.😅
Haha that would be a disaster. I know like 10 words. 😂
How long will the cask influence last in the bottle, opened or even unopened?
The cask influence has been pretty stable so far in terms of how noticeable it is. 🥃
Hey Geoff, good one. One hint: Champagne is not matured in oak. Only some special cuvées will get wood treatment. So i guess there will not be a whole lot of champagne casks available for the whisky industry ;-)
Ah, that explains a lot. I know absolutely nothing about the Champagne world. Thanks, buddy! 🥃
I Know its Belter but very hard to get it. I saw it online recently for.....£150 so 🤷♂️ Cheers Geoff 👍🥂🙋🏻♂️
Yeah it's a pricey one for sure. Good stuff, but $150 is pushing it. 🥃
Got a couple of bottles of this and afraid to open, as I know I will finish them too quickly
Sounds like a stunner! Too bad it's $190 CAD here, if you can find it. Cheers!
Damn! That's a LOT! 🥃
It is very hard to find any Ardnamuchan in Singapore and it is a treasure hunt yet still no luck 😢
I shudder to think how much this would go for in Singapore. The prices out there... 😬
Did you try it with Nougat and almonds?😉
Hah actually I did have some almonds out the other day with my friends while we drank it. 🥃
My name is Mike and I said the exact same thing when I tried the Cask Strength.
Are you stalking me? Because that would be super.
Lies. My friend is named Mike. You expect me to believe there's ANOTHER Mike out there? Dubious.
Cheers. 😉🥃
I'm with Barry ✋️ 😅
Had the option to pick up this bottling before selling out, but didn't pull the trigger. Oh well, maybe next time 😅
Pretty sure we'll get a 2024 release! 🤞
Though I shudder to think what they'll charge you for it down there... 🥃
I own the cask strength but I only use it for blending. I cannot enjoy this drinking as a single malt.
Fair enough.
@@Gwhisky After some drams I have to revise my previous judgement: it's a nice dirty-sweet punchy whisky.
i just cant get around champagne casks...
alright fine ill buy it
😂😂😂
.....okay i got Springbank 15 instead, but ill get this one day...!@@Gwhisky
