- Simple and clean doesn’t mean easy - especially when it comes to old school JDM builds. Without being able to throw all kinds of crazy parts at a car project, a car’s style really starts to rely on the few specific parts that you end up installing, or even removing. Daniel Song’s previous builds may be a bit louder, but sometimes it’s best to let a car’s classic shape speak for itself. Which is exactly how he ended up with this crazy clean example of a Datsun 240z, build by the now famous JDM Legends shop in Utah.

I would absolutely buy a wall print of a Z Car off Larry's shop... IF HE HAD ONE.
Larry ! Say it isn't so.....of all cars you have ,no Datsun Z ,
None ! But a Honda S600 ( cool as that pigmy car is)
You have to have tons, of S30's shots, to create one, two or three ,Datsun Z ,
Do you know just how many Z guys would have them hanging in the Garage ?
Larry Chen,( Speed Hunter )
= Datsun Z !!!!
That is as obvious as the lens on your camera !
They're honestly the best looking Japanese car ever no doubt about it
on par with the 2000gt and the early mazda cosmo.
A lot of doubts
@@TheJust4Watching so basically you like cars that look basically the same.
@@AndrewB23 So basically you use basically as often as the Apparently-kid. If you think, these cars look the same then I believe you are one of those new generaton supercar kids with no taste (:
TheJust4Watching I like the 85 Fb all sliver or one all black turbo 2 but man those Datsuns are so fly !
Owning a '72 240Z is a social experience. EVERYONE loves that car - from guys who drive large pickups, own muscle cars, to anyone you might meet at the grocery store. I get 2-3 compliments everytime I drive my 240 with bad paint. Everyone loves that car! There is nothing like it on the roads today.
JDM Legends was a great TV Show I hope it comes back. Great build.
Those guys are right around the corner from my office! It is cool to see them drive past from time to time!
Yeah, I saw the episode with this car and it is beautiful.
This is honestly one of my dream cars.
Buy one soon they are getting expensive fast
Thank you guys for making these episodes, it really takes us away from all the chaos going on in the world. ♥
That its powered by a tweeked version of its original engine and not an RB or LS swapped thing is for me the best aspect of this car.
Those flares and wheels look good, the overall package is gorgeous.
Nice build fella.
I owned a Fairlady Z 71-72 while stationed in Japan 84-86 that looked just like this one, white, aftermarket massive rear wheels/tires with wheel flares, forward mounted bullet style mirrors. Four speed manual and an awesome exhaust. Loved that car…sexy, seductive and perfectly raw!
When asked about the dyno numbers:
"I don't remember the numbers"
Ah, spoken like a true car guy!
Very tastefully put together build though. Can't fault anything. L-series engine, triple sidedrafts, great wheels, dual stack exhaust, I mean, it all just works. I'd be envious, but I own practically the same car, but with a more stock interior and no flares. It always puts a smile on my face, thankful to have it! :D
If you could stop posting videos on the 240z that would be great…you’re making buying one rather difficult ;) another great example 👌🏽
I had a 1977 260Z. The car was fun and the seats were so comfortable. I loved the sound of the engine!
One of my favorites next to that square body 510🥰
Man what I would give to have a 240z or 260z or 280z. They are my dream car. The sound and the look is just something I would trade anything for.
just tighten the fan belts and it would be better sounding.
The 240z goes down as one of my all-time favorite automotive designs ever. I can still remember the impact that this car had on me when it first came to the States (I wasn't even yet 10 years old.) To me, the Z's lines are simply timeless - that it only grows better looking with the passing of time is a testament to this. Conversely, in my opinion the test of time will not be nearly as kind to so many of today's cars (including the current Supra) thanks in part to the various safety regulations todays designers must try to overcome. Regulations that did not exist back when the 240z was designed.
Try driving one, seriously awesome
Those LA shots are bringing back the memories of when I drove my second Z over the dangerously high bridge. Oh man the shots I took in the the docks where glorious.
I love how he mentions the FRS/BRZ, I definitely think they have some lines from the original Z in them
One year later and Larry Chen can drive up in Orange Bang !
Rob at Z Car Garage put his energy into sorting out the BANG in the ORANGE. He changed the Bang in your ears and ride ,into BANG from every performance part Larry had hung on his Pride and Joy , now it's a full Samurai Japanese Ferrari.
And Orange Bang is a Samurai of Z Cars today. Dec 2021. Rewatching and thinking just how much Z Larry has on his Channel.
Nobody else covers the Z more. Thank you Mr Chen !
I bought my 280Z yesterday, we didn’t even get it on the trailer and people were taking pictures and asking about it. On the 3 hour drive home, people had their phones out their cars taking pics, they are just a fantastic car
I can totally relate. I get more thumbs up than any other car and stories of how they had one in high school in my 70 510. Love it.
Beautiful. I have a 71 240z and a 83 280zx turbo. Both 5 speeds. I love them both.
You did it again Larry. I, personally, am super grateful for EVERY SINGLE s30 Z that you profile. I almost wish that it was the only car you focused on. I can't wait to start working on my 260z. I just have to move into my next place to have the garage space to bring it over. Thanks to all these profiles, I am pretty sure I know how I am going to build mine. In your experience do many people keep them green? I see tons of white, black, red and blue builds, but rarely Leaf Green.
I love the diversity Larry has going with autofocus, one day he’s shooting a Guntherwerks Porsche, the next is a clean modest Z build
This is what I was hoping Fugu Z would turn out like, when they first teased it. IMO this is pretty much aesthetically perfect.
Timeless design..the beauty of enginering..good job Datsun..
I finally saw a stock Datsun Z today for the first time in real life.. they sit up soooooOoo high lol. Man was it weird sitting up that high, there’s like a foot and a half of ground clearance.
The face touch @ 0:05 is a universal "they are watching and I'm proud of my car" sign.
My god the realtionship between larry and this man is ozzing off the screen. It's almost like you're a part of them when they did this video
Aloha from Kauai, HI, thank you so much for the great videos on Japan cars. My son has a Skyline R32GTR he bought from Japan & shipped it here. It's in Honolulu right getting the engine rebuilt, he fried it. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about these vehicles, the builds are amazing. Myself, I was a VW geek in the late 70s early 80s, various street cars & a 59 KG race car that ran low 11s (backyard built). Again thanks for the great photos & videos, you're the man. Aloha nui loa. Also mhalo for coverage of the Hawaii car culture.
That is gorgeous! lost for words with this one Larry
Bro your videos ending clip @20:30 doesn't get enough love. Its so well done!
Of course it's a beautiful car... But I have to say to Larry and team, your eyes for perspective and use of ambient color palette is absolutely best in class! Photography with the highest merit! Loving your work guys!
This model of Z was what I learned to drive in back in the '90's it's on my auto bucket list
Larry is my spirit animal
Something about the "panda" look just works with a clean build!
If the hoods not black she ain’t panda IMO But the white with the black is looking cherrry !
Larry are awesome dude THANK YOUR for making video keep making please...!
Love seeing the classic JDM cars
That 240 is absolutely gorgeous 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great build! I ran out of gas on my first drive as well lol. Lucky to have picked mine up when I did.
Such a beauty from all angles
Many years ago I had a 71 240Z one of my very favorite cars
I remember seeing this car when I was a teenager... Its a long time ago but it is still admirable platform
Another one of my favorite cars that was at ZCon!
No Larry...you are known for your amazing automotive photography.
Well this is a first....First time IVE seen this car before Larry shot it.
I saw this car in SuperStreet .
I actually have two copies around here.
I think the build is ,a good normal build. Which is all that is needed in an old Z.
Just how Youthful they STILL are 40plus years later !
Nobody " human" , can get in a Z and NoT ,smile!
Great build, it's how they should be, a Japanese Ferrari
I could watch the opening ,cinematic....for hours !
Absolutely stunning 240z wow
That’s a badass looking Datsun 😍
Very nice. I hope my brother restores his 1973 C110 Skyline coupe soon.
Had one of these in the 80’s that I paid 600.00 for. Aww man I wish I would’ve held on to it.
I was going to buy a clean 5 speed one for 8 thousand 8 years ago. I wish I would’ve pulled the trigger
@@jlopez1017d five speeds are rare man
That headliner, very nice
Looks sooooo clean!! Well done my dude.🤙
Very nice..I remember seeing it on Japanese Classics when they were doing the rebuild..very good choice to keep it L-series..🏁
Older cars are much more approachable! Love it! Way to go Eric at jdm-L!
Best looking z I have seen
always the best hoonigan content ! love watching
I wished I could afford something as beautiful as this!
Awesome feature, I have a Z myself and I can’t wait until mine is that clean, if ever!
Amazing build car looks amazing 🤩
@larrychen love all your videos! Recent subscriber, and ive enjoyed watching many of your covers. Im actually in the middle of my own 280zx resto project right now, so its nice to see some of your videos including the Z cars, and collecting ideas and information about different parts i can look into. Keep up the good work man!
Thanks again ,Larry..
The dashboard is the sexiest dashboard of the 240z's time.
Awesome Z, great engine note.
The sound of the exhaust?!?!.... 🔥🔥🔥
I love the Z lineup 🤘🏽🔥
Love it! Great build.
I love these lines
Good to see the stock engine given the proper treatment rather than something silly like a late model 4-banger turbo stuck in it!
Every car guy-“it’s just so visceral!!”
Im a car guy and i say thats a photography nerd term
Everybody already wore out saying “it’s analog” lol
Funny thing is every great classic car gives a visceral experience, unlike many modern cars designed on focus group feedback and built by robots.
Such a legend car 240z
Perfect plates.
Whoa Larry I didn't know you had a 240z?!
Better watch this channel closer ,he has videos on his refresh build on his Z.
th-cam.com/video/3mx8RGREwJ0/w-d-xo.html
Absolutely beautiful ❤️ Larry your shoots are always fantastic!! I love the older Z's and the British styling cues are so ever apparent which is creates a stunningly beautiful car. You gotta shoot a MK1 MR2 Larry 😏
“Again” count 17 haha, his cars are sick though! Can’t wait to see what he does with the new A90 again haha cheers!
Gorgeous car
Shout out to Whitehead Performance in Toronto currently rebuilding my
1977 280 Z with, you guessed it, triple OER carb set up.
I like tons of cars. I LOVE the Fairlady Z
wish I kept mine..Beautiful set of wheels...
nice stance. the 240 is my favorite
Love, love, love this car!
Amazing whip
I really like this guy
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched wangan midnight
240zs tick pretty much every box for me and this is no exception....great looks, great sound, RWD, not too common, light, kinda classy but not snobby, trackable, showable.....yes yes yes. Stick one in front of Larry Chen and you've got instant poster material. Now, how much have I got in my bank account.....
Found it , this car was cover featured Oct 2018 Super Street Magazine.
Same issue has a Datsun Z 1972 with LS turbo swap.
Two Z 's in one issue from Super Clean Resto Mod to Extreme Sick Z.
Yeah I agree. When I drive my 66 datsun roadster. Everyone wants to tell me about how they use to have one. Even though my roadsters kinda beat up. Ppl just love Datsuns
such a beautiful car
they do such good work, wish i could afford it lol
I really, really, reaaaaaally want a 240, i love them 😩 i'd love to build one for the Panamerican Race here in Mexico
Honestly same but a 280zx is so much easier to obtain so I have 2 ones a built racecar rusted to death the other is a rust free 78k original mile car that a senile man ruined so I gotta strip it and put everything from the racecar on it 😂😂😂
Looks great, hope mine turns out as nice as that!
Love the car just not mad on the grey bolt on guards
Beautiful!!!
Thank you, Yoli!!! Boo!!!
A '79 280zx was one of two cars I had before my "first" car. Smelled like mildew, vapor locked when it warmed up, but hauled ass on rotten tires. Mom said it ran like a scalded dog/ American car culture lol
Where can I get my dash re-wrapped like that? Looks great, a little shinier than stock.
Nice. I would have gone with the zero badge look, but that is me. I am sure this car gets a lot of double takes.
great music, great intro ! love it
New game, take a shot each time Larry says "I love it" on his videos.
4:30
That sounds exactly like what Mazda did decades later, when the MX5 went from NA6 to NA8.
Just mix and match until the old parts run out.
is NA8 when they switched from 1.6 to 1.8?
Beautiful cat! I have a 1970 myself I'm currently restoring. Only thing this car needs is tightening of the fan belt! That squeal ruined that beautiful exhaust note!!!!
That belt squeal though
Larry can you focus on sung khan datsun?
