Which Shape Jag XKR Should You Buy | Jaguar X100 vs X150 Comparison | Rivals Showdown

  • The question of which generation or shape of Jaguar XK to go for is a justified one, with each shape offering distinct advantages for their price. From the more modern classic X100 generation with its wooden dash and long distance cruiser vibes, to the 'affordable Aston' approach of the aluminium bodied X150 shape cars, and their more focused handling and sharper performance.
    So with that in mind, let's consider what you may be looking for in your Jaguar XKR, and see which of these excellent GT cars is the better choice for you...

    X100 is the first car I fell in love with. In 1998, I took my school girlfriend on a ride with my dads XKR. It was supposed to be a date, and I was gonna "impress" her. But we spent the entire night driving around and "reviewing" the car. We both became car enthusiasts after that. Now I have moved to Canada since, but from what I have heard she is still in UK and drives a red X100 and has 4 kids! Cheers from Canada .

    I've owned my 1997 X100 since 2000. It has done 80k miles and has been meticulously been maintained by me in my comprehensive garage (2 post lift, hydraulic press, welder, compressor etc). Last year, my solicitor eldest Son decided he would like a similar X100 so we started looking for an X100 in excellent condition with less than 100k miles. His budget was £12k. After searching for a few months and viewing many X100's, we gave up and started looking at 4.2 X150's. We were spoilt for choice and, after just a couple of weeks, got a beauty for £12k which has been totally reliable and is, exactly as you say, better than my X100 in every way except that driving my X100 is like sitting in a Gentleman's club whereas driving the X150 is like sitting in performance machine.
    The bottom line is that if you want an X100/X150 with relatively low mileage and in lovely condition, then an early X150 will not only be the cheaper option, it will, in almost every way, be the better car.

    I was in love with the X100 in its heyday and lusted after it. My grandad always had various of the older-gen Sovereigns/XJs, those with the round lights, over the years, and the original XK8/R had that same lovely leather wood/opulence in a body shape which I thought was a logical transformation of that saloon car design aesthetic into a sports car. The 150 is inevitably a generally better car, and I can't really fault anything at all with its design, but it never captured my heart like the original did. I also never loved any of their saloons once they went the new design aesthetic that did away with the round lights. The X351 onwards. Those cars looked so much more ordinary to me. Anyway the XK8/R felt like such a perfect upgrade to my MX-5 at the time, but was not within reach at the time. I never did buy one, but much further on in time I've now leapfrogged it a little way, with a manual 2009 V8V that I adore.
    Nice video and general rundown between the two cars - cheers!

    I have both an X100 XKR (2002) and an X150 XKR (2010), so I actually lived the comparison everyday. While the X100 is a beautiful looking, classic appearing automobile hthat shows its heritage to the E-type beautifully. However, its looks is the only thing that is worthy of comparison. In every other category, driving dynamics, suspension, power and performance, comfort, handling, ..the X150 is the clearly better vehicle. So much so that since I bought my X150 ten years ago, I can count on one hand how many times I have ventured back into my X100. It's not enjoyable in comparison. And my X100 was extremely unreliable whereas my X150 has been the most reliable car I have ever owned in 55 years of driving. I have 199,000miles on my X150, have tracked it many times, and is still my daily driver. One drive in both models will be an eye opener . There is no comparison!

    Both are great, X100 with her classic style and X150 with a new Jaguar design.

    X100 wins hand's down, for beauty, inside and out. And let's face it, even now the X100 is holding its price year by year over the 150.. At the end of the day, in 20 years time only the X100 will be going for something close to its initial cost back in the 90s and early 00s..

    Dang a dang what you are comparing is the XK8 and the supercharged XKR through the Series . The pre-2006 body styling is far more superior than that later version that you were driving

    Looking to purchase an X150, but need to think about rear seat space for occasional use with the kids, i'm 6' tall, not sure how tall you are, but what kind of space would be behind the drivers seat? Thanks!

    • @beardsncars
      @beardsncars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      6'3, and yeah the rear seats are non-existent unless the kids are very small

      I have an X150....rear seats are only for VERY occasional use. Best for one person in the rear, where the front passenger is not tall and can move their seat up. At 6' tall no one will be using the seat in back of you. I'm shorter than you, and almost no one uses the seat in back of me. (emergencies only)
      That said the GT 2+2 layout is very much better than just a 2 seat sports car in that the rear seats are excellent open space for stuff that you might be carrying. I use the space all the time.

    That looks like the A361 from Shepton to Glastonbury 🤔. I'm still torn. The X150 is the better car but the X100 is a style classic.

    X 100 for looks. All day, every day. My XKR is an X100 so I'm biased.
